Fireflies
ambrace88 asked for a oneshot of Emma and Henry teaching Neal how to catch fireflies.
"We need to go very slowly." Emma whispered as she helped Neal hold the little jar in one hand and its lid in the other. "Remember how Henry did it?" Neal nodded, concentrating. Henry had demonstrated to his little uncle how you quickly trapped the little insect in the jar. Now Emma was helping him capture his first one. Emma quickly reached out with him, drawing the jar and lid together and screwing it shut. "Good job buddy! Want to have a go at one by yourself?" Neal nodded, taking one of the smallest jars available and going after a firefly by himself.
It took Neal four or five attempts, but eventually he managed to capture one of the beasties in the jar. He whooped in triumph and held the jar aloft.
"I did it! I did it!" He proclaimed. He carefully placed the jar beside the other two captured creepy crawlies.
"You did. Now we have enough to create light for our shadow puppet show." Emma demonstrated by placing the jars together so that their light reflected off the wall of the house. She then made what looked like a bunny's shadow hop across the wall. Neal giggled in delight and joined in himself.
Henry then showed him how you make a dog. Neal and Henry used their dogs to chase Emma's bunny rabbit across the wall.
All too soon it was time to go inside for bed.
"What do we do with the bugs now?" Neal asked.
"We let them go back to their families. We were just borrowing them." Henry said, unscrewing the first lid. Neal then helped Emma unscrew the other two lids, releasing the other flies.
"Bye bye fireflies." He said happily. "Come back soon!" He then happily tottered off upstairs. His dad helped him get changed and then tucked into bed. Nobody would know that he spent the next hour or so perfecting his bunny and dog with his nightlight.
