Only so much peace
Effervescent Dreamer asked for a oneshot of a chapter set in Scotland. So this left me with a few wee dilemmas. One: to set it in my beautiful city, or in one of my favourite spots outside of it? That one was solved when I decided I didn't really want to reveal the actual city I live in to potentially hundreds of people haha. So I went with a spot on a beautiful little island called the Isle of Arran that is known as Scotland in miniature. The second dilemma: how to fit Scotland in without making it a holiday, as I've already done that. So, this chapter is set in *season 5 spoilers* a sort of EF form of Scotland where Merida is helping Emma.
Emma sat on the sand, lifting up handfuls of the light grains and letting them just run through her fingers. It was almost therapeutic, given what she was going through. The wind whipped her hair round her head and Emma could almost taste the salt as it attached itself to her hair. It was a cold wind, but a nice clean, crisp one. She watched as the waves from the dull grey sea roll up onto the much darker, wetter sand. The seagulls squawked in the near distance, flying along the shoreline. Emma pulled her knees up to her chest and rested her chin against them. It was certainly beautiful here, but it wasn't home. Were they looking for her, or had they given her up as a lost cost? Happy to have gotten rid of the Dark One. Emma rebuked herself for thinking such things of her family and friends, but deep down she still thought them. She missed them all dearly. Merida was doing a fantastic job of looking after her and helping her contain the darkness. The serenity and beauty of this little corner of the Enchanted Forest could only make her feel so much better. She just wanted her family back.
