The Charming's routine
A guest asked for a oneshot of a regular day routine for the Charming family.
Emma loved this. During her childhood she was passed from pillar to post so much she rarely had time to settle into a regular routine with her foster family before she was uprooted once more. That was assuming the family she was with had such a thing as a regular daily routine. It wasn't unusual for whoever was her new guardian to not give a shit what Emma did when and left her to her own devices. In those homes she'd have to get herself ready for school, fed at every meal (assuming there was food) and make sure she was clean, even if there was little or no access to hot water and soap. It might sound drastic, but sometimes that was Emma's reality.
But here, Emma knew the script. The alarm on her phone was set every weekday morning for six fifteen. If she accidentally slept in or her phone came unplugged and ran out of charge in the night someone else in the house made sure she was awake by half past. Henry would come out of the shower and Emma would greet him good morning in the hall before she went into the bathroom for her turn.
Once her hair was blow dried and she was changed into her clothes for the day she's walk sleepily downstairs and sit on a stool at the kitchen where her mom would have laid out some breakfast for her and would already be on to feeding Neal his. Emma still wasn't used to that level of care, but she was getting there.
By quarter past seven, Charming would tell Emma it was time to go. Snow would grab their lunches from the fridge and kiss them each goodbye, wishing them a great day. They would each say goodbye to Henry and Neal as well before heading out to the cruiser and Charming would drive them to the station. This was another level of care Emma wasn't used to. Usually she had to make her own way anywhere, yet here her dad drove every morning so Emma could scroll through her phone checking out any news updates on any of her various social media platforms.
They'd work hard till noon then (providing there were no emergencies) they'd chow down on their lunches, catching up with each other. That was one of Emma's favourite parts of the day. She and her dad just had such an easy relationship with each other.
By five pm their shifts were complete and Charming would drive them both home again. Snow and Henry would be back from school and Neal would be home from being babysat by Granny, who left the running of the diner to Red now.
Later on at between six and half past they'd catch up with everyone's news over dinner, the chef changing depending on what night it was. Funny stories would be exchanged and new facts about each member of the family were often learned.
Weekday evenings were often relaxed affairs. They'd catch something on the TV or watch a movie on Netflix together before gradually one by one they'd head off to bed. Heartfelt goodnights were shared wishing each other sweet dreams and small gestures like tight hugs or little kisses on the cheek expressed more love than words could.
Yeah, it wasn't the most exciting life, but between them they'd had their fill of excitement for right now. As far as Emma was concerned, she wouldn't change it for the world.
