Getting his blessing

Lilstep asked for a oneshot of Charming going to the garden in the palace after escaping Regina to ask Leopold's permission to marry Snow. The wind blows like a sign for yes.

Charming looked carefully over both his left and right shoulders as he strode at a quick pace through the palace gardens. He had a very tight window of opportunity to get this done, but he knew that he had to. It was the proper thing to do. He didn't know exactly where he was going, he was just judging by what Snow had told him. Leopold's grave was right in the centre of the garden, by his favourite gazebo. He followed the paths of tulips and pansies that gradually got less cared for the closer he got to his suspected goal. He figured Regina wouldn't want anyone to look after her husband's grave.

Charming was right, and he soon found was he was looking for. It was unlike most royal headstones that had great paragraphs of writing, his simply read:

Here lies King Leopold.

Nothing else. Charming didn't have much time. It wouldn't be long before Regina's guards searched this side of the palace. Panting, Charming quickly crouched in front of the stone.

"I'm sorry I don't have time to do this properly." He whispered. "But if I do the question will be pointless, as I'll never reach Snow anyway. Leopold, I am madly in love with your daughter. I know I am just a shepherd boy masquerading as a prince, but if I could give Snow White the world I would. I would give my life to protect her and will endeavour to give her everything she asks of me. Sir, what I'm really asking is, do I have your permission to ask for your daughter's hand?" Charming sat back, he wasn't expecting a reply, but he knew Snow would appreciate that he had done this (particularly given the life threatening circumstances). But then, something happened that Charming wasn't expecting. A gentle breeze floated by, and the single living plant that remained by the side of Leopold's grave bent it's petals just slightly up and down a couple of times before the breeze passed. Charming shook his head, worried that he had seen things. But something told him that he hadn't. Somewhere out there Leopold was giving David his blessing. Charming grinned as he stood back up.

"I won't let you down sir." He promised the former king. "Now if you excuse me, I'd best be off before I never get to ask Snow herself." Charming stood off, and set off at a run. He had a very important question to ask.
