What might lie in the dark

Anon asked for a oneshot of Snow and Emma watching a scary movie together. Emma acts fine at first but ends up being really scared and doesn't want to go to bed.

Snow screamed and ducked her head behind the pillow. She had not expected the demon to pop out there. She peeked to the side to see that Emma was still looking at the screen.

"How are you still watching? Are you not terrified?" She asked. Emma shrugged, still not looking away. She may be coming off as cool as a cucumber, but in reality she simply couldn't look away from the screen. She was just putting up a pretence.

Snow continued ducking behind her cushion whenever she got scared, whereas Emma couldn't look away so kept looking. Eventually the film ended and Snow switched the TV off.

"Maybe watching that so late wasn't such a good idea." Snow admitted. "In fact, maybe watching it in the first place wasn't fantastic." Snow was grateful Charming was already sleeping in their bedroom, and Snow would be more than happy to curl up in his arms that night. "You not going to bed, Em?" Snow asked, as Emma hadn't gotten up from the couch. Emma shook her head. Upstairs was darker. There was a window in the living room with a streetlight just outside that always shone through.

"I'm too sleepy to move. I'll just stay here tonight. I've got a blanket and pillows anyway. Night mom." Snow saw right through Emma's lies. She knew Emma was just too scared to sleep upstairs. She didn't want to leave Emma frightened, but she knew she had to be subtle about it.

"Well, we might as well have a sleepover then." Snow said, getting back under the blanket on the other side of the couch. Emma looked at her, surprised. Snow smiled over at her daughter. "That ok?" Emma nodded bashfully, grateful for the company. Snow then settled down against the couch. Yes, she was terrified too and would rather be with Charming, but Emma's fear was the priority over hers.
