Danny Phantom Meets the Ghost Force
Chapter 1: The Symposium
"A Ghost Symposium?" Danny asked in shock.
"Yeah, son!" Jack happily replied, believing Danny was as excited about it as he was. "This Saturday! In New York!"
"Do you mean that town where ghost attacks are stopped by the Ghost Force?" Jazz asked, becoming genuinely interested.
"Yes, Jazzy." Maddie answered.
"Ghost attacks?" Danny became worried about the possibility of his parents being attacked. "Can I go?"
"Son, I'm glad you want to because we'd take you anyway." Jack replied.
"We'd never feel safe leaving you and your sister behind without anyone to protect you in case Phantom or some other ghost attacked Amity park while we were away." Maddie added.
"Great." Jazz sarcastically asked.
Showing where Danny took his cluelessness from, Jack failed to notice Jazz's sarcasm. "I'm glad to hear it." He commented.
"So, which kind of equipment do the Ghost Force members use?" Danny asked out of fear they had something that could identify him as a ghost.
"Besides the occasional weapon, they use a device that enables them to mimic ghost powers, Danny." Maddie answered.
"Maybe they're real ghosts and use their power for good." Danny hopefully said. While he knew it wasn't impossible for humans to mimic ghost powers (even the Guys in White once managed to do so, after all), he also knew there were good ghosts.
"Ghosts are evil." Jack said with a frown. "And those in New York aren't sapient like us or Danny Phantom. Hopefully we'll meet someone at the symposium who can explain more."
"In that case, I'll call my friends to tell them I'll be in New York." Danny said.
"Okay, son." Jack replied.
Later on, Danny, Tucker and Sam were at the latter's home. "New York?" Sam asked. "What'll you do if you're attacked by some of the ghosts from there?"
"I guess I'll have to go ghost and hope the Ghost Force can be reasoned with." Danny sighed.
"Will you visit the Statue of Liberty?" Tucker asked, trying to lighten the mood.
"Maybe." Danny replied.
That Saturday, a girl and two boys were at the symposium. "Liv, why did we come here?" A redhead boy asked in annoyance. "Don't we already hear enough from Ms. Jones about ghosts?"
"You can't know too much about ghosts, Andy." Liv argued.
"Mike, a little help here." Andy pleaded.
"Sorry, Andy, but I'm curious about how Ms. Jones explains ghosts to civilians." Mike replied.
"Not to mention I want to meet Jack and Maddie Fenton." Liv was excited at the idea.
"Who?" Andy asked in confusion.
"Ghost hunters who live in Amity Park and protect that town from ghosts." Mike answered. "I've heard that some of the ghosts there are sapient."
"Sapi... what?" Once again, Andy was confused.
"Mike means those ghosts are articulate enough to hold conversations with people, Andy." Liv told her brother. "Have you ever wondered what it'd be like to talk to a ghost?"
"No way." Andy dismissively replied but then thought it over. "Maybe Glups."
"Anyway, Liv, I've been doing some research on the Fentons and some people say they're more destructive than the ghosts they hunt." Mike stated. "Most Amity Park citizens prefer to rely on Danny Phantom for their safety."
"They're so bad at ghost hunting the people they protect prefer to rely on a ghost?" Andy asked. "Hilarious!"
Right after he said that, the Fentons entered the room. Liv squealed in delight and approached them. "Mr. and Mrs. Fenton, can I have your autographs?" She eagerly asked them.
"Sure thing." Jack replied, glad someone asked for his autograph.
"Mike, have you seen anyone acting like my sister just did?" Andy asked Mike.
"You, when you first met my Dad." Mike answered.
"Yeah, but that was with Michael Collins, Mike!" Andy justified himself.
"Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Fenton!" Liv said after getting the autographs.
"It's a pleasure." Maddie replied.
Andy decided to tease the Fentons. "Mr. and Mrs. Fenton, is it true that a ghost does your job for you?"
"Andy." Liv scolded her brother.
"Danny Phantom is evil like all ghosts." Jack said with a frown. "He just tricks people into thinking he's good."
"Sorry about my brother." Liv said and Danny didn't understand why he felt relieved that Andy wasn't her boyfriend as he initially presumed.
"It's okay." Jack calmly replied.
"Anyway, I'm Liv Baker and I'm pleased to meet you." Liv said.
"These are our kids Jazz and Danny Fenton." Maddie replied while motioning to the Fenton siblings.
"Nice to meet you." Danny and Jazz said, the latter shaking hands with Liv.
"So, are you also visiting New York for the symposium?" Danny asked.
"No, we moved from California because of my parents' job." Liv answered.
"Wow, it looks like my sister's got a boyfriend." Andy teased his sister.
"Andy, leave them alone." Mike scolded his friend.
"Danny, this is our friend Mike Collins." Liv said.
"Like Michael Collins, the astronaut?" Danny asked in amazement.
"Astronaut?" Andy asked in outrage. "Mike's Dad the greatest basketball player ever! How can you think he's an astronaut?"
"Andy, there's more than one Michael Collins who made a name for himself and one of them was an astronaut." Mike explained.
"Not just an astronaut." Danny replied. "He's one of those who flew the Apollo 11…"
"…and the Gemini 10." Danny and Mike finished together.
"Whoa, I understand Mike wanting to know details about his namesakes but what about you?" Andy asked.
"I want to become an astronaut when I grow up." Danny answered.
"Amazing!" Liv was impressed.
"Excuse me, we're getting late." Jack pointed out and the conversation ended.
Danny was watching as a woman who introduced herself as "Ms. Jones" was giving a speech when his ghost sense was triggered. "I gotta…" Danny tried to come up with an excuse but didn't have time as a ghost penguin phased from the floor. Since practically everybody else was running away, Danny didn't bring attention by doing the same. "I'm going ghost." Danny said once he was sure nobody was watching and became Danny Phantom.
Danny phased himself back into the lecture room. "Chilly Willy, time to get back to your igloo." He said.
"We're already have enough trouble without you, Phantom." Jack replied as he and Maddie were already trying to catch the ghost.
The ghost penguin spat an ice cube at Maddie, turning her into an igloo while the Ghost Force showed up. "NOOOOOOOO!" Both Jack and Danny shouted and the former tried to hit the ghost penguin with a weapon but missed. Danny was luckier and froze the penguin. The Ghost Force's green member then tossed a capsule at the ghost, imprisoning it and restoring Maddie's true form. "Good job." Jack complimented the green hero. "Now get Phantom."
"I'm not a bad guy." Danny said and flew away. The Ghost Force phased through the same wall Danny Phantom did but saw nobody other than Danny Fenton. "Excuse me, Sir, did you see a ghost?" The pink heroine asked.
"Yes, he went that way." Danny lied, pointing at the wall on the other side of the corridor.
The Ghost Force phased out of the building. "Where did Danny Phantom go?" The blue hero asked.
"He must have fled, Krush." The pink heroine suggested. "Let's go back."
"Okay, Myst." Krush replied.
"That was Danny Phantom, the Amity Park ghost hero?" The green hero was surprised.
"Don't you do your research, Fury?" Myst asked in frustration. "The real mystery is what he was doing in New York."
"He must have been here because of the Fentons." Krush suggested. "It's too much of a coincidence!"
"We'll talk to Ms. Jones about it later." Fury said and they returned to the building and he, Myst and Krush turned back into Andy, Liv and Mike.
After the symposium ended, Danny tried to know Liv better. "Liv, my parents and I are going to see the Statue of Liberty." Danny said. "Would you like to see it with us?"
"Liv, we told our parents we'd go home after the symposium." Andy intervened and his phone then rang. "Mom?"
"Andy, we heard of the ghost attack at the symposium." Mrs. Baker said. "Are you and Liv okay?"
"Yes, Mom." Liv replied, entering the conversation. "We are."
"Good!" Mrs. Baker exclaimed in relief. "Are the both of you still going home?" She asked and then noticed Mike on the screen. "Hi, Mike."
"Hi, Mrs. Baker." Mike replied.
"Maybe I'll go to Central Park." Liv said in response to her mother's question.
"Don't forget to say "hi" to us if you do." Liv's father said, entering the conversation.
"Son, can't we leave the Statue for another day?" Jack asked, winking at Danny. "Your Mom and I will be looking for Danny Phantom."
"Okay, Dad." Danny replied, understanding what his father was planning. Maddie also understood Jack's plan but considered finding Phantom a priority.
"You could visit Central Park as well, son." Jack suggested. "I've heard they're filming scenes for a new Solar-Man movie there."
The Baker siblings exchanged knowing glances. "Danny, I could guide you through Central Park." Liv said.
"We could." Andy corrected his sister. "I'm not leaving my sister alone with a guy I barely know."
Danny, Liv and Jazz didn't say anything since they, to an extent, understood Andy's reasoning. Mike's phone rang. "Dad?"
"Mike, are you okay?" Michael Collins asked in desperation.
"Yes, Dad." Mike answered.
"Phew." Michael said. "I'm glad to hear it."
"Little brother, I'm going with you." Jazz said. "It's going to be a new experience to analyze."
"She wants to be a psychologist." Danny told Liv.
After the conversation ended, Mike returned to Ghost Force's headquarters to recharge his Ectocap. "Mike, why didn't Andy and Liv come to recharge their Ectocaps?" Ms. Jones asked while removing the special gloves she wore to hide the fact one of her arms was ectoplasmic.
"They decided to show our new friends through Central Park, Ms. Jones." Mike answered.
"New friends?" Ms. Jones asked in confusion. A tame ghost named Glubs, who was floating next to her, seemed to be just as confused.
"We befriended Jazz and Danny Fenton, Ms. Jones." Mike explained.
"Jack and Maddie Fenton's children?" Ms. Jones was shocked. "Okay but I'm more concerned about the presence of Danny Phantom at the symposium. Not only it's unusual to see sapient ghosts in New York, I think it's too much of a coincidence he'd come at the same day people who hunt him did."
Mike thought over what Ms. Jones had just said. "Ms. Jones, while we were chasing Danny Phantom, we noticed Danny Fenton on the other side of a wall we just phased through with Danny Phantom nowhere in sight." He said. "Could they be the same Danny?"
"Do we have pictures of both individuals known as "Danny"?" A robot named Glowboo asked and Ms. Jones produced pictures for Glowboo to analyze. "Assuming a human can turn into a ghost and later change back without the use of Ectocaps, I estimate the probability of Danny Fenton NOT being Danny Phantom is 1 in 44 billion."
"We must warn Andy and Liv!" Mike was worried.
"Don't worry, Mike." Ms. Jones reassured Mike. "Danny Phantom is a hero. We can wait to tell them when you meet them or when they come here to recharge their Ectocaps."
"Okay, Ms. Jones." Mike calmly replied.
