Jealousy
Harvey was annoyed as he watched Scott Wolfmen hit on his girl…Of sorts. He rolled his eyes as Zoe laughed winningly at Scott, who then whispered something against her ear - finding an excuse to touch her forearm, lean in, encroach into her personal space as his mouth grazes her ear.
Yeah, he's annoyed alright. Zoe and him had been… building something. Flirting every time they'd interacted, with Harvey going out of his way to seek her help out jokingly pretending he needed her expertise on every case when in reality he had little to no cases going to trial… ever really.
Harvey sighed as he saw Zoe giggle once more, wondering for a second if maybe she actually liked Scott because she didn't seem to mind his tactics or his hands all over her and he just ordered her another drink, which Zoe looked intentful to grab. He shook his head, brushing his suit lapels down as if ridding himself from the thought. He doesn't think he has anything really to worry about, knows he'll one-up the man soon enough, he clearly wasn't bothered enough or threatened enough to stop the entire ordeal which he could- easily, with one swift walk and hand on Zoe's back. Yeah, Harvey was confident Zoe liked him more. But still, Harvey was human, he could be annoyed by this, hell, he should be annoyed.
Harvey grabbed a sip of his own scotch, grateful for the distracting burn going down his throat as he tried averting his eyes from the scene- except he couldn't. It was like a car crash that he couldn't look away from, sick interest keeping his eyes trained on every move they made. Before he could get too lost wallowing in quasi-pity as his crush flirts with some douche, Louis cornered him and distracted him with talks about cats and hardman and what an ass he is.
Exactly four minutes later, Zoey walked swiftly and cockily into Harvey's space holding a drink out for him, despite the fact he could get his own. "Hey- what do you say we get out of here?" Zoe asked with a head tilt and a soft alluring rumble to her accent causing her 'r's to drop off her tongue and roll easily between them.
He felt goosebumps raise at the back of his neck. "Thought you'd be busy with what's-his-face?" He asked casually, pretending he hadn't been surveilling her for the past hour.
Zoe laughed at his obvious attempt at faking insincerity. "Well I felt your eyes bore a hole in the back of my head so I figured that meant I should come over. I mean, I could go back. Scott is quite entertaining. He's an ex navy seal, you know."
Harvey rolled his eyes. "Did he get a medal in bragging?"
Zoe laughed again, her sense of humor easy as she was on drink number four. Harvey smiled at getting the reaction out of her.
"Ok let's go. I know a place with decent food."
"Yeah? What cuisine?"
"Breakfast."
"It's 10 pm."
"Oh they only serve breakfast food in the morning. Do you prefer eggs or pancakes? I can make both." He wiggled his eyebrows at her and Zoe really should have seen that coming.
"I'll go get my coat." Zoe kissed his cheek.
"I'll be right here." Harvey cockily sang his response, tilting his scotch glass she'd just passed him up in the air, a cheers of sorts towards Scott the Idiot, who was rolling his eyes at the entire interaction occurring across the room. Harvey felt smug, glad his assessment on the entire ordeal was right- he wasn't losing his touch, and he had no real reason to be jealous of anything.
"That was disgusting. I need to bleach my ears out. How do I do that with Monica?"
Harvey blinked in surprise as Louis spoke up from his right. "Jesus Louis I forgot you were there."
"Oh that's nice." Louis scoffed "Real nice. God you and Donna are the worst."
Harvey frowned at the mention of his secretary. "You mean Zoe?"
"No, I mean Donna. She ditched this party for some stupid Halloween party with her theater group that she knows I've been trying to get into for months now. The little teasing rascal said she'd try and find a way in for me only now I see her posting pictures having fun with her stupid boytoy all over Facebook."
"Oh."
Harvey didn't have Facebook. He thought it was a stupid fad and didn't get why people outside of universities were still using and adopting it. Plus, he'd heard of Zuckerberg from fellow Harvard alum and he was… not impressed with the weird guy.
Still, he was kind of curious about Donna's pictures with some guy that had Louis reeling….
"Oh yeah? What's she dressed as?" Harvey asked, feigning nonchalance.
"A cat. It's a respectable choice." Harvey rolled his eyes at Louis's feline obsession, just before he could voice his annoyance, Norma yelled for him to come meet her friend. Both Louis and Harvey cringed at the pair of old broads in the corner of the room.
"Oh god." Louis mumbled as he drank his entire glass of red wine in one shot, shuddering as he made his way over to his secretary. Harvey snickered and then shuddered at the image of Louis cowering under his secretary's weird hold over him.
He sighed as he sat back down on the bar stool patiently waiting for Zoe.
He's not thinking about Donna. He's definitely not noticing that Louis left his phone right there next to him. He's definitely not remembering that Louis's phone password is louis.
Ok, so he's thinking about it.
No he's doing it. With one last gulp of scotch he whirls around on an impulse to take louis's phone types in the absurd password that Litt's own goddamn name, wonder how exactly he ever graduated law school, before scrolling to Louis's Facebook page on his phone, entering the browser and typing in his secretary's name.
And wow.
Cat costume was a severe understatement. Donna was dressed up as Cat Woman- clearly the hot as hell version with her hair curled and her eyes smokey- every inch of her body covered up in skin tight latex. "Fuck." Harvey mumbled to himself as he took in just how hot his secretary looked tonight. He's never seen Donna's legs so vividly, her hips, her ass, her breasts- every curve amplified and hugged perfectly somehow giving him a better view of her body's silhouette than if she was just naked in front of him.
That's not entirely true- he definitely still wanted her naked in front of him. And that may have been a better view but Jesus Christ is that catsuit doing her body multiple favors - and his. He needed to get a grip.
He swallows as his mouth has suddenly gone dry, scrolling through her album of photos, one dedicated completely to a picture of her costume in a long mirror, another where she's with a group of friends presumably the theatre group Louis was jealous of, and yeah here it was, Harvey's special form of punishment for snooping around where he doesn't belong - a picture of Donna and some guy dressed up as Zoro, a pathetic as fuck costume if you ask Harvey because really no grown man should wear a cape for gods sake- but there the guy was some tall tan dark haired man with a mask concealing half his face, in a pirate puffy shirt that somehow showed off his obnoxiously toned body, groping Harvey's secretary. One arm on her waist, the other on the side of her face, directing her to look at him. They looked as if they were seconds away from making out, Donna's left arm sporting what he's sure is one of multiple drinks she's already had. Harvey felt his jaw tense, annoyed and somewhat disgusted by the fact someone took a picture of his secretary lewdly almost on top of her boytoy for the night.
He could already picture it playing out in his head- Donna would probably say one of her annoyingly cocky but alluring as fuck 'donna'-ism that only she could pull off. Zoro guy would probably inch closer, and he knows, from experience, that Donna's eyes would settle on his lips and she'd bite her own, contemplating her next move. He could see clear as day her hazel eyes turning dark as her pupils become dilated and heavy, her light eyelashes coquettishly fluttering as she zeroed in on his lips, her soft plump lower lip slowly- Harvey shook his head abruptly, feeling his groin stir at the mental image he was painting which is definitely not what he needed right now.
These pictures weren't that hard to find for god's sake. She's his secretary, at a reputable law firm hell his own reputation is at risk here. She should be making smarter decisions it's bad enough she abandoned him tonight for some college-esque raunchy Halloween party, she didn't have to broadcast her drunken night out all over-
A sound pinged out of Louis's phone, startling Harvey out of his train of thought.
It was a text message from donna. It's like she fucking read his mind, Harvey quickly scanned the ballroom, double-checking the redhead wasn't spying on him as he… spied on her via Louis.
"Louis! I'm drunk enough that I'm inviting you to drinks. Come to Coven 11, on 33rd street. We'll be here a while."
Harvey swallowed down his sense of jealousy that was rising from all ends now- he was jealous of Donna's stupid halloween party, regretting his 'yes' from earlier in the week for her to take the day off, hes jealous of Zoro-man touching her like she belonged to him, jealous of her costume that got to cling onto her body like that, and jealous of Louis goddamn Litt getting an invite to her drinking night out.
Harvey has no idea where Zoe is anymore, because it shouldn't take her that god damn long to get her coat- but he's seething with amped up energy that has nowhere to go right now, and he needs to calm down, needs to think rationally and stop seething green with envy-
His hand had a mind of its own as he hit speed dial number 3 on his own phone, abandoning Louis's back in its rightful place on the barstool.
He doesn't know why he's calling, can not believe how juvenile he's acting, can't believe that hes jealous enough to act on this- doesn't know how this'll even help because she probably wont pick up because why would she when shes out drunk with her friends and fucking boyfriend on her sacred halloween night, who would pick up a call from their bo-
"Harvey!" Donna's voice rang in his ear, all high-pitched and slurred as she giggled his name out, signaling she must be on drink number five.
Instantly his body calms down, his heart rate slows, and his irritation (mostly) melts away. "Donna." He sings back to her, his voice ringing with amusement despite the anger he felt directed towards her earlier.
"The party that boring- you're calling little old me?" Donna asked, the background noises on her end were loud, he could hear people laughing and cheering and music on at the same time.
"Well, you're not here so what could I have expected really?" Harvey cringed at his reveal, hating how true it was. Without her whispering in his ear and distracting him while Zoe wasn't with him, he was pretty miserable with the partner's gathering, Jessica too busy mingling and Louis being.. Well, louis.
"Exactly." He could hear Donna's smirk through the phone, causing Harvey to roll his eyes at her predictability, "Been telling you for years, Specter, I'm too awesome."
Harvey let out a puff of laughter, swallowing the rest down as he silently agreed with her once more. He didn't know what to say after that, didn't know how he could explain away the reason he called.
But he didn't even have to because Donna pulled another superhero move after exactly one minute of comfortable silence between them.
"Let me guess, you called because Louis babbled on and on about how he got invited to drinks with me and you wanted to make sure I wasn't blacked out in the back of the club because clearly that's the only reason I'd ever invite the poor babe." Harvey snickered at her use of 'babe' like they were in one of her old timey Shakespeare plays. Yeah she was definitely drunk.
She wasn't dead wrong, but she was as close as he wanted her to be to the pathetic truth of jealousy he'd felt- feeling left out of her life in a way he never really realized he was. Harvey cleared his throat, making sure it wasn't conveying any betraying thoughts before he spoke up.
"You got me. And from the sound of your voice I'm assuming you're two drinks away from being drunk out of your mind, Paulsen."
"Hey- I can handle my booze. I'm not the one who-"
"Hey! We agreed, you won't mention the incident of 2006, and I won't mention albuquerque." Harvey teased, a begrudging smile on his face as he fell back to their familiar banter.
Donna laughed in response but before she could retaliate with another sassy remark, he heard someone speak to her, distracting her from him.
Harvey closed his eyes in annoyance as he heard the words 'shots' and 'beautiful' come from a husky voice that could only belong to a man… a cape wearing man. Donna muffled back her own reply, before returning her attention back to the phone.
"Harvey, I have to go, but thanks for checking up on me, I'm sure I'll regret my choices in the morning but hey, this'll add even more content for our weekly rundown on Litt's hilarious meltdowns."
Harvey bit back his first instinct to ask why she didn't invite him, why was she leaving him for some douche who wore superhero costumes, and why she didn't just-
"Harvey?"
"Right, sorry. Have a good night Donna."
"You too." she said sweetly. "Don't forget to use protection with Zoe."
Harvey couldn't decide if he was more bewildered, annoyed, or amused with her knowing that.
"How could you have possibly-"
"I told you, I'm Donna." And with one last airy drunken laugh from her end, she hung up the phone. Harvey stared down at his cell, mystified at what exactly he felt now, because his jealousy was definitely still there and he cant believe he let it go far enough that he actually called her…but the jealousy was covered up in something much more sorrow and that seemed to run much deeper than his typical green-eyed monster..
"Ready to go?" Zoe asked with a hand on his forearm, jolting Harvey out of his mid-night crisis.
He took in Zoe's coy smile, and relaxed demeanor, clearly happy with their plans of spending the night together, choosing him over Scott, and whoever else was into the girl, and Harvey smiled, pretty happy with his own night plans too. "Yeah. Let's go."
