A/N: Wrote this out for Parallels, and this was actually my first ever written out fic for this prompt and it came so easily to me! Now that I've written it out though I'm having a hard time deiciding if this is more a fic for Through The Eyes of Others since this is Scottie's pov... but it also has parallels... idk might just be annoying and reupload to the other fic as well.
Enjoy #darveyficlet about Harvey's vulnerability when it comes to relationships.. sorta. Apologies in advance for Scottie-lovers because she gets burnt a little in this one. And also sorry for the lack of Darvey fluff, it's there just subtle.
As always, critiques, comments, and suggestions are much appreciated!
Vulnerability
Dana smiled, letting out a content sigh as she calmed down from the last orgasm Harvey had given her. She was in his penthouse, leisurely taking advantage of being back in the city and his 5000 thread cotton sheets. She turned to the side as she took in Harvey's profile. His strong chiseled jawline, his hair that seemed to get darker in the winter and lost its golden tinge from the Manhattan sun… His two twin moles on the side of his eyebrow line which added to his masculine look making him somehow hotter than he already was. She tried reading his mood, except he had his eyes closed and a close lipped smile on his face, assumingly blissed out from their recent reunion with their bodies. They'd been together for two weeks now, and Scottie still wasn't used to how consecutively amazing their sex was. She thought the aspect of them going from frenemies-to-lovers to in a relationship would diminish some of the passion. Except it didn't. Her sex life with Harvey was still just as amazing, just as teasing, and just as satisfying as it ever was.
She slowly inched closer to his side, her hand making its way up to his chest. He blinked one eye open, looking back at her, and that earned her a more earnest smile which made her smile back in retaliation as well. "What are you thinking about?" she whispered softly, trying to get a glimpse into his mindset.
The one thing she thought would get better was their emotional intimacy. Lately, she felt so disconnected from him. Even before they became official, before they signed the dotted line for her new partnership at his law firm, they'd been stronger with their intimacy. Maybe not as strong as when they were seeing each other weekly if not every day when they were both Harvard students, but still. She fondly remembered their 'congratulations' sex they had when they both finally became practicing lawyers. When she landed her associate position at Lankden & Frank, when he started the D.A. 's office… She remembered the time he moved to Pearson & Hardman and how their enemies-to-lovers aspect had gone up a notch, because she'd moved to chicago and they both took cases against one another just to cross paths yet again. She remembered how even then, when she'd moved states and saw him much less, there was still something there between them. Maybe it was because of their heightened ability to push one-anothers buttons, which added to the amazing sex that Scottie could admit was some of the best she'd had. Maybe it was because her move back then had isolated her from her friends and family, and she'd broken up with her boyfriend before she agreed to move to her firm's branch in chicago with a promise of a promotion, or maybe it was cause she'd just been to her cousin's wedding who was three years younger than her and had met her husband when she was in undergrad, leaving her more vulnerable and open at that time, which Harvey got to benefit from.
Maybe it was just because it was Harvey.
Whatever the reasoning, she'd had thought them finally settling down in one place, with the labels of a serious relationship meant getting back their emotional intimacy to match their sexual one.
"I'm thinking about how I'll definitely let you get that corner office if you do that thing with your hands again." Harvey's teasing remark abruptly halted her train of thought.
Scottie sighed, a little upset at his teasing smirk that dodged her request for him to open up.
She tried again, tried to coax an answer out of him with gentle caresses to his hair neckline. "I'm serious, what are you thinking of right this moment?" She whispered yet again, trying to maintain eye contact with him. But she could see it in his eyes, her ears ringing, not fully hearing his short perfunct answer that's definitely evasive with a touch of sincerity in his tone. Scottie almost saw right through it, did really- as she saw in his eyes the guard he had up around her. She sends him a small smile, pretending to accept his answer, not wanting to rock the boat if he was shutting her out.
She wondered if they'll ever get past all the distance they've seemed to gather over the years and her heart pinched itself as she wondered if he'll ever really let her in after she cheated on her fiancé with him, and so she felt the walls he'd built around himself gain another bricklayer or two- except he just got his hand on her thigh and he's caressing her softly and it's reminding her of times they've shared before and she's looking at him like he's her past because he is. And she wanted to revel in someone who knows her history and she thinks he does too so she kissed him and he kissed her and she ended their bed talk early because really they don't need it.
. . .
Scottie laughed as Harvey chuckled along with her, his breath hitting the side of her neck teasingly tickling her slightly. Harvey was in her dorm bed, that was barely a twin size, forcing her and Harvey in each other's space, not that they need to be forced. They're laughing about some Professor and Harvey was teasing Scottie about her crush on some TA they have, and he has his hand on her thigh and she has hers on his chest and after a minute of silence, of them calming down from their laughing-fest and endorphin high from their latest sex round, she remembered to ask him about his dad who he'd visited over spring break and he tells her easily everything from their latest visit, and he willing went on to share what he admires about him, from his saxophone skills to his unwavering morales. And so she shared her stories about her own dad when he asked and when there's a moment where it felt like she was going to cry remembering her dad who passed away a few years ago, the tears unwillingly rising behind her eyelids as she tried blinking them away- he takes her hand and kisses it softly pressing her palm to his lips as he says "I'm sorry" and it sounds so genuine, like he felt her pain and was more empathetic than just sympathetic and it warmed something in her aching soul. He kept giving kisses to her arm, going up her palm, reaching her forearm, then her shoulders, then her clavicle. They have sex yet again but this time it's tender and loving and that's when she thinks she fell in love with him. A Harvey that was open and vulnerable and caring. A Harvey few got to really see let alone experience and know.
. . .
Scottie was walking down the 33rd street, happy to have finally settled a case against Monroe for her favorite client. She saw a speck of brown hair and red, and if Scottie didn't know any better she'd think she had a traumatic engrained response to recognizing Harvey Specter anywhere, and wherever he was the redhead was bound to be nearby. She froze in place as she took in the view of Harvey and Donna holding hands, walking across the streets of New York City, right smack dab towards her. Scottie was thankful for the hussle and bustle happening around her, that she blended in quite well with the masses as she silently watched them. It looked like they were arguing for a second, frantically moving lips and expression. Except they both have amused looks on their faces, and knowing glints in their eyes. And then it started raining and Donna gestured to the empty space around her and Scottie saw her lips phrase the word "see? Told you!" And despite the fact it's raining and only Donna is wearing a protective coat to cover up Harvey doesn't look annoyed as his 3000 dollar Armani suit got damaged by what is surely acidic rain. He looked happy. Truly god damn happy. Scottie doesn't think she'd ever seen him so light, so free of all the burdens he's had since she first met him. He smiled softly at Donna and took her hand and brought her palm to his lips and kissed it while murmuring something to her, probably a joke about her being right and him being wrong. And Donna rolled her eyes fondly at him and she called him a sap before moving the hand he was kissing to the front of his lapels and dragging him towards her. She pulled out an umbrella above them and kept one hand on his chest. She said something to him, something along the lines of I'll protect you and she's teasing him with a smile but Harvey has a serious look on his face that makes Scottie think he's savoring Donna or this moment or donnas words she doesn't know. But she does know she was starting to feel like an intruder looking at Harvey Specter with his vulnerability shining so loudly as he loved his wife with no boundaries.
Scottie turned around so her back was to them as she crossed the street, changing her route to avoid them. She hoped he stayed this happy with Donna.
She knows they don't need hope, because they will be.
