Author's Note: So, watching the premiere episode of season 14 I was inspired to write this short one-shot. I haven't written a one-shot in years. I can never get enough Jamko. I hope we see more as the season progresses. Hope you all enjoy!

Getting back to you

Jamie couldn't get enough of being home with Eddie. He ran a hand through her hair as they lie in bed. He could see the look in Eddie's eyes. He knew where his thoughts were flowing back to.

"Talk to me bub. You look like you have a lot of weight on your shoulders."

Sighing, Jamie closed his eyes and then opened then, trying to clear some of the images from his mind's eye. The things he'd seen.

"You know I can't talk about work babe."

Jamie watched as Eddie sighed and nodded her head.

"I know. It's just, you look like you haven't had much sleep in a while. The look on your face says: 'I've seen a lot of things'. At least tell me how you feel."

Jamie chewed on Eddie's words as he kept running his left hand through her messy hair.

"I've thought about you every day while I was gone Ed. I can't imagine what it's been like for you. It's only been three weeks, but it feels like it's been years."

Eddie moved closer to Jamie and buried her face in his neck.

"I wish we could just stay in this apartment, in our own little bubble of bliss and never leave. The bed is so cold and empty without you. But I know how important this is, your undercover assignment. I don't want to stand in the way of you catching these guys. It's part of the job. I've accepted that. It's part of being a cop. We both accepted it when we signed on."

Jamie ran a hand down the right side of her neck lovingly.

"I've had the best few days of my life since coming back. All spent with my best friend and my wife. I hope to spend more with you. After everything we've been through over the last few years, it would be nice to have a little break and catch our breath."

Jamie could see the worry in Eddie's eyes, and if he was honest with himself, he was absolutely terrified. Fleming had seen it in Jamie's eyes too when he'd asked if he was ok with going back undercover. Jamie had pushed the emotion aside and accepted. He couldn't have room for doubt. Not when the lives of other women were at stake. He watched as Eddie swallowed and her voice came out in a quiver.

"I know we don't make promises Jamie. At least not when it comes to the job. But can't we just pretend that for one day, your promise to come back to me safely rings true? All I want is to hear you say it."

Jamie nodded. He was feeling the same uncertainty and foreboding that Eddie was.

"I promise to come back safely. Now, there's something else you want to tell me?"

Jamie felt Eddie move and unburied her head from his neck, looking up into his green eyes.

"It can wait until you come back from assignment. Really. I don't want you distracted while you're on the job. It can wait."

Looking Eddie in the eye, Jamie ran a hand up and down her arm.

"Are you sure it can wait?"

Eddie nodded and plastered a smile on her face.

"Yes. Now, enough gloomy talk. How about we get to know one another…"

Jamie smirked and wiggled his eyebrows at Eddie.

"Well, if you put it that way…"
