How long has it been since that day? Weeks? Months? Years? Eh, it didn't really matter now. Sans had all the things he needed to survive in this world. Food, shelter and a loving parent.
Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention. Sans has a mom now. Yep. When the red woman took the baby in and found no one around to care for it, she took it upon herself to nurture the baby as her own.
One thing led to another and here we are right now. Sans dozing on the living room couch with the television on, the television currently showing a news report from 666 News.
Oh yeah and another thing. Sans was in Hell now. To be frank, it was kinda funny to the former skeleton. Sans was never the religious type to begin with although he did like bringing up Hell as a way to scare people but he didn't think it actually existed! And here he was, snoozing on a couch in Hell.
If Sans was awake right now, he'd chuckle at the irony of it all.
The sounds of vacuuming were getting louder as Sans' adoptive mom groaned at the sight of her adopted son being his usual lazy self. "Really, Sans? Again?"
Oh, right and Sans kept his name too. He wasn't really that bothered to change it. For how his mom knows that? Well, let's take a look back, shall we?
…
…
…
A young, toddler Sans stared at the piece of paper and crayon before him on the table. His mom had just placed them there as a way for Sans to have some leisure time with some doodling.
But Sans didn't feel like drawing. He always thought he was bad at it. He couldn't even draw a damn stickman for goodness sake!
Although Sans had other plans. He had noticed that his mom hadn't called him by any given name yet. She had always referred to him as 'son' or 'my child' so, no better time to 'introduce' himself to her than now.
With a smirk, Sans began to write on the piece of paper with a blue crayon. Eventually, Sans finishes and walks over to present it to his mom.
The red woman took the paper with delight and look at it's contents but was confused when all she saw were the words.
"NeMe Iz sANs" And with an arrow pointed at a small poorly drawn doodle of himself too!
The Imp woman let out a long "Ohhhh…" in realization and chuckled in amusement and smiled warmly at Sans. "Well, then. Nice to meet you Sans!"
…
…
…
Flashback over. Those were some good times, eh? Anyways, back to the present.
Sans' mom stared at her son with unamusement. She walked over to the snoozing demon and lightly shook him.
Sans groans as he slowly opened his eyes and looked at his mom. He groggily said "oh. sup, ma."
"Don't 'sup, ma' me, mister!" The Imp woman pouted and placed her hands on her hips. "I notice that the dishes haven't been washed, the laundry hasn't been done and your socks haven't been picked up! And where do I find you? Dozing off in front of the TV!"
Sans chuckled and winked at his mom. "what can i say? i'm a couch potato."
Bad-Dum-Tss
The Imp woman sighs. "Is that why you have a potato on you?"
True to her word, there was in fact a potato on Sans. He was really planning this one all day, huh?
Sans shrugs. "i'm a man of my words. besides, you found it funny. admit it."
Okay, she had to admit, it was kinda clever. "Fine! It was a bit… Funny."
Sans winks at his mom once more. "gotcha."
Then, both Sans and the Imp woman shared a few chuckles together. The red woman looked at Sans. "Just… Do your chores when you can. You're a growing boy and I don't want to see you grow up behaving like this."
Sans sat there and thought to himself for a while. Then he turned to look at his mom. "sure. why not. i'll do em. probably."
The Imp woman raised an eyebrow. "Probably?"
"what? it's a work in progress, alright?" Sans shrugged.
The Imp woman rolled her eyes and sighed, although she chuckled ever so slightly. Despite his lazy demeanor, Sans was always kinda endearing when it comes to his jokes and snarky comments.
"Alright, fine. But I better see those socks picked up by today! They stink." She says as she walks away from the room with the vacuum.
"noted." Sans replied. Once she was gone, Sans stretched and yawned and slumped back onto the couch.
If Sans was being honest. He liked this kind of life. No more worries about some crazed lunatic wanting to murder everything. No more threats of the entire timeline being reset back to zero in an instant without warning.
Sans could get used to this.
Although, there was something, or someone missing. Yep, his brother… Sans looked up at the ceiling. He missed Papyrus. He really did.
If only that weird voice from back then had brought the two together into this world but… He's probably long gone by now. Erased from existence with the previous world.
Sans let out a deep exhale. There was no going back now. He should be happy with what he has now. Food, shelter, a loving parent.
A loving parent.
Sans smiled. He didn't really know remember since he had felt this kind of emotion towards someone. Especially a parental figure. He had to admit, it was nice.
Sans swore, he is going to cherish that Imp woman until the very end. He hopes that moment won't be too soon if it ever happens.
…
…
…
Sans stared at the reflection on the store window. He took notice of how his appearance had changed over the years.
He had found a blue jacket, white shirt, pink slippers and black shorts with white stripes that resembled his outfit from way back then.
He also took note of his more physical features. Sans had to admit, having actual skin and hair… Still feels a bit odd. He was so used to being a skeleton that not seeing one whenever he looks at a mirror startled him sometimes.
Speaking of skin, his was pale white with red rosey cheeks and bright yellow eyes. He also had shaggy, unkempt blonde hair.
And finally, Sans was sporting his signature smile. His teeth not as sharp as the rest of the other demons and white as pearls despite everything he's ever ate.
If Sans had just one word that would describe this look it would be:
'Sans.'
Sans did a finger gun gesture at the mirror then proceeded to walk away.
While walking on the streets, Sans looked up at the bright, red sky. The sky was always peculiar to Sans cus' there was a giant pentagram plastered in the middle of the city.
Sans always felt that this place was far larger than the entirety of the Underground. He could probably fit both Hotland and the CORE in just one ring in Hell! That's how vast this place is.
There were also the diverse sets of citizens walking around. The Underground had plenty of weirdos roaming around the grounds too but this place took it up a notch.
Citizens of all shapes, sizes, strengths, weaknesses, etc. roamed around the streets. Each one more unique then the last.
Sans took note of these demons and knew which of them is which. He was homeschooled by his mom to know the difference between demons like Sinners and Hellborns.
Sans hummed to himself as he walked until suddenly.
GONG GONG GONG
Oh no… That sound could only mean one thing. It was one of the first things his mom taught him at homeschool.
He needed to get home and hide quick! Luckily, he has his trusty shortcuts.
…
…
…
The Imp woman could be seen locking all the windows and doors but left the front door unlocked for Sans to enter. She wiped the sweat off her forehead. "Oh dear. Another Extermination has begun already? I sure hope it's a quick one this time…"
As the Imp woman sighed, she heard the door creak open. That must be Sans! She smiled and turned around. "Sans! Thank goodness you're…"
Only to find a total stranger at the door. "... You're not Sans…"
…
…
…
Sans walked over to the house and approached the front door. Good thing his shortcut brought him home quickly!
He placed a hand on the knob but was startled when he heard his mom's muffled screaming.
Eyes widening, Sans quickly opened the door and was shocked at the sight he was seeing.
His mom was currently being held hostage by a demon that seems like to be a Sinner. The Sinner demon had a switchblade over her throat.
Sans stared at the Sinner and spoke. "what. do you are doing?"
"I'm saving my fucking ass, what do you think?" The Sinner replied as he held onto the Imp woman tighter.
"let. my ma. go." Sans said in a serious tone.
The Sinner chuckled to himself. "Or what? What are you gonna do? Kill me? If you do, you'll attract the Exterminators and they'll come in and kill you too!" The Sinner had a sinister grin on his face as he brought the switchblade closer to the Imp woman's throat. "So here's what's gonna happen. You two shut your fucking mouths about me, I get to hide out in this shithole until the Extermination is over and no one gets hurt. Deal?"
Sans glared at the Sinner. Not answering his suggestion at all.
The Sinner growled. "I said deal!?"
But Sans didn't say anything, instead he took a step closer.
The Imp woman's eyes widened when she saw a faint silhouette with wings approaching behind Sans through the open door. She then threw her head back to headbutt her captor and yelled out. "SANS! WATCH OUT!"
"huh?" Sans looked back and the entire wall was blasted apart by a golden beam.
Sans coughed as he laid there, weak. His body not strong enough to carry his weight. The dust was still to heavy.
But through the dust, he could see the faint silhouettes of what looks like to be the Sinner… And a winged figure.
"Wait! Stop! Please, let's talk about this! Let's TALK ABOUT-" The Sinner pleaded out to the winged figure before being cut down by it's sword.
Soon, the dust settles and Sans can finally clearly see the figure in it's entirety. It looked to be wearing some kind of uniform that had black, white and grey colors. They also had large, grey wings and black halos. Most strikingly, they also had heads that had large horns and an X mark over their right eye and a permanent grin.
No mistaking on what this thing is. He learned about his through his mother. It was an angel but not just any angel… It was an Exorcist.
The Exorcist then turned to look at Sans face to face. The Exorcist stood there, not moving a bit. Almost like it was observing him.
Eventually, the Exorcist finally does move but it just… Walks out of the hole it blasted open and flew away with it's wings.
As Sans, slowly got up to dust himself off. He quickly looked around for any signs of his mom.
He pulled away some debris from a pile until his eyes widened when he saw an unmoving red hand. He threw away some more debris until he finally found his unresponsive mom on the floor.
There were large cuts and bruises everywhere. Sans gasped as he grabs his mom's hands. "ma… please wake up… it's me, sans."
… No answer.
"ma, please. i'm here now. please."
… Still no answer.
Sans stared at the unmoving body of his mom. His mind flashes back to when he first felt this much pain and grief.
It was when he found a lone red scarf on the cold snow.
He couldn't believe he was experiencing this exact thing again… But he didn't want to. He didn't want it to be. So he kept going. He kept asking.
"ma. it's me, sans… i'm here now…"
…
…
…
Sans stared at the red sky of the Pride Ring. It has been years ever since that day. Ever since he lost someone dear to him.
Sans sighed. He felt… He didn't know how to explain it. There were so many emotions going around in his head at that moment, he didn't really pinpoint what exactly did he felt then.
He still doesn't at this moment. Sans was a mess. A huge, mess. And he knows that.
But… He couldn't do anything about it, could he? It's not like he could reset back to where it all began, right? It wasn't his responsibility to use such power after all.
Sans let out a deep sigh as he walked across the streets of one of the cities in the Pride Ring. Despite his current state, Sans couldn't help but keep a smile on his face. Perhaps, if he tricked himself to be happy long enough, he truly would be.
Eventually, Sans comes across a TV store. Through the window, Sans witnesses an ad play out in one of the TV's.
The ad showcases what seems to be an Imp demon with a white scar on the side of his face. "Hey there, you fuckwads! I'm Blitz, the O is silent and I'm the boss and hot as fuck leader of the Immediate Murder Professionals! Or I.M.P. for short."
Sans silently watched the ad with an intrigued expression as the Imp continued his ramblings.
"Anyways. My company has opened up applications for any new hirings in case anyone wants it! So get your asses over here and help us kill shit! Just find us in this building at this address in Imp City! We'll be waiting for you!" Once the ad ends, a photo of the I.M.P. building as well as the address was shown onscreen.
Sans stood there. With a raised eyebrow. He thought to himself, staring at the sky.
…
"this could work."
To be continued…
