### Chapter Fourteen: The Rising Moon
The equilibrium of Beacon Hills was once again disrupted, this time by Isaac's personal tragedy and the looming spectre of the full moon. Lydia's unexpected return, though a relief, did little to dispel the growing tension within our circle, her disappearance and miraculous recovery from the bite still shrouded in mystery.
The air in the locker room was charged, a silent acknowledgment between Scott and me of the town's newest werewolf. Stiles' accidental distraction with the massive chain was timely, sparing us from undue attention. On the field, Scott's not so subtle attempt to discover the new wolf, only confirmed our suspicions about Isaac, his aura (although only obvious to me) distinctly altered by recent events.
Chemistry class became an impromptu meeting to discuss Derek's motives behind biting Isaac. While I initially kept my distance, Stiles' inquiry about Jackson's absence drew me in, his gaze compelling in a way that shattered my resolve to maintain emotional distance.
The revelation that our grandfather had been installed as the principal was a chilling development, undoubtedly orchestrated by my parents. Attempts to uncover their plans were thwarted, with Allison being summoned to a discussion about Lydia, leaving me in the dark. That was, until Allison told me everything.
Determined to act, Allison and I coordinated with Stiles to intercept Isaac before our family could reach him. Allison's prowess with the bow neutralized the threat posed by a fake deputy, while Stiles and I made a tense journey to the sheriff's department. The solitude of the jeep ride with Stiles, a scenario I had long fantasized about, was both thrilling and nerve-wracking. My small gesture of comfort, a hand on his shoulder, "We'll make it in time" I promised, was a bid for connection amid the chaos.
Derek's inclusion in our rescue mission relegated me to the back seat, a position that did little to ease the jealousy simmering within me at their flirtatious exchanges.
Stationed outside as a lookout on Jeep guard duty, I was overwhelmed by a sense of danger to Stiles within the station. In a moment of desperation, without really thinking about it, I tapped into my unknown power, willing Isaac's cell door open with just a thought. It obeyed. The situation quickly spiralled out of control, Isaac's newfound savagery turning towards Stiles. My silent plea for Derek to intervene was heeded just in time, averting disaster.
This night was a testament to the unpredictable and dangerous life we led, a life dictated by the phases of the moon and the secrets we kept. The events at the police station, particularly the near-miss with Stiles, underscored the depth of my feelings for him and the lengths I would go to protect him, even if it meant tapping into abilities I scarcely understood.
As I lay awake that night, replaying the events in my mind, I couldn't help but feel a shift within me. The challenges we faced under the rising moon were a harbinger of darker times to come, but they also illuminated the strength of our bonds and the unwavering resolve to stand together against whatever horrors lay in wait. For me, this was more than just a battle for survival; it was a fight for the heart, for love, and for a place in a world where the lines between right and wrong, human and monster, were increasingly blurred.
