"And all that is before we even get into the damage done by the monks." Jean continued. "Let's start with what Willow did to you. Without doing an evaluation on Willow I can't know if anything I found, beyond what she confessed to, was intentional or not. It may be a case similar to her 'my will be done spell' where anything she spoke accidentally became real."

"What did you find in regards to the memory alternations?" Giles asked.

"In your case, a few things. Willow made it so you couldn't speak about being tortured by Angelus and accepting of Angel after his return from Acathla's dimension. She also amped up the feeling that Buffy is who matters, not Faith. I say amped up because you already felt Buffy was important and already were dismissive of Faith. She just made it more so."

"And the monks inserted knowledge of Dawn's existence, but no emotional connection to her. And you've made no effort to establish an emotional connection to her. But then you've made little effort to have an emotional connection to any of them. Part of that is because of your own training as a Watcher, in that you're trained to believe it's suppose to be just you and the Slayer. Part of that is because like Buffy, you consider the world to be what's important, not what's in it. Which is also why you overlooked all the warning signs that both Alexander and Faith had been abused. As a librarian, you had to have teaching credentials, which means you were a mandated reporter, who ignored warning signs of abuse and morally committed abuse yourself. No wonder Alexander stopped trying to confide in you about things after the Hyena possession. He realized very quickly, you simply didn't care enough to notice."

"If you're going to pin the lack of notice on me, then why not also on their other teachers?"

"In the case of Alexander." Jean said. "Those teachers were already affected by Sunnydale Syndrome. Something many of them had been a victim of since birth. And it can be overcome with force of will or protections. You certainly had the force of will since you are able to acknowledge everything else you encountered in Sunnydale, only some of which can be attributed to your training. The rest is you being able to do it, when you wanted to. And Faith grew up in a neighborhood were the prevailing philosophy was 'it's not my problem.'" Jean concluded.

"Their feelings were reinforced by your lack of involvement in their lives in the year following their graduation, you moving back to England while they were still grieving Buffy and Mrs. Summers' deaths and trying to take care of Dawn themselves. Willow and Tara moved into the Summers home to provide day to day care, Xander and Spike patrolled and Xander began fixing the house up. Literally providing a home for the girls he considered his sisters. He may find it difficult to express his emotions verbally, but his actions speak very loudly." Emma took up the information exchange.

"I gave Buffy money to help her when I came back." Giles protested weakly.

"Yes, just before you left again." Jean said in an annoyed tone of voice.

"Buffy was depending on me too much. She had me discipline Dawn."

"She'd just crawled out of her own grave. She wasn't taught to manage her own life because being The Slayer took precedence." Stephan said. "But you expected her to manage both hers and Dawn's lives and never noticed all of them were hanging on to a cliff edge by their fingernails. Buffy was probably a centimeter away from slitting her own wrists at that point. Willow buried herself in the Magics and trying to control everyone around her because on some level she recognized that she couldn't control herself anymore. And Alexander was beginning to realized that proposing to Anya during an apocalypse, especially without having dealt with his own fears about marriage and relationships and terror that he'd become just like his father was most definitely not the best idea. But he also thought he had to go though with it, because he's a man who tries to keep his word."

"I was grieving too. And being around Buffy was very difficult and it's entirely possible Willow influenced me to leave. Xander did suggest that." Giles protested. "And what did Willow or the monks do to Buffy?"

"Now you're just making excuses." Stephan said disgustedly. "And Willow did almost nothing to Buffy aside from supporting her choices and believing herself that Buffy's choices were correct and trying get others to believe that as well. The monks made Buffy believe that Dawn was her sister and gave her memories of Dawn, same as the rest of you. And possibly made her feel more protective towards Dawn as an individual. But if so it was very subtly done. Buffy's actions at the time though, suggest it."

"You all need to address the damage that both the monks and Willow did to your minds." Jean continued. "As well as the cumulative damage from years of continuous fighting. You all need to figure out who you are now, because you can't go back to who you were and you'll never be who you would have been without it all."

A/N Librarian and teaching credential requirements vary from state to state, but school librarians do have to have some teaching accreditation. And teachers and all employees of the school system are mandated reporters in every state.
