Arc 1

Chapter 11: New Faces

Slumbering Dragon Hill; Seiso City, Japan, late night

()

The sentinels of the dragon herd sat on small hills, overlooking the area as they kept sharp eyes for any intruders. Anyone foolish enough to get too close would be met with the fury of nearly fifty dragons. A truly fitty end for the unwise.

Thankfully, A-chan was not a fool. Nor was she unwise. Which is why she stayed in clear view of the three sentinels that watched the cliff overlooking their nesting area. As long as she didn't make any sudden moves or try to jump off the cliff into the nest, the worst she'd get were several stink eyes from the dragons.

The Hololive staff member's attention was not on the dragons, however, but on the sky. She narrowed her eyes at the pitch-black sky with only minimal stars sewn into its fabric and scowled. She could tell, despite looking pristine, the Reality Web around this area was distorted, a clear sign of someone exiting the Void.

But distortions were not normally look so…jagged. A-chan's eyes narrowed further as she studied the exist point. It didn't look natural, like most distortions. It was as if someone punched through the Reality Web. This, of course, was unlikely, because doing so has shown to cause tremendous problems with the surrounding environment, and Slumbering Dragon Hill was fine.

A-chan hummed as she made a deliberate turn and walked away from the cliff. When she was a good distance away from the top and out of the sentinels' sight, she warped to Ochiba park. She walked past a duo of Oozora Policemen patrolling the area as she continued closer to the forest. She stopped at an intersection of two paths and gazed up above the trees. She hummed.

This one was different than the one over Slumbering Dragon Hill. This was more natural. Likely, this one formed first. Which meant…

"Someone piggybacked off this one to make the one over Slumbering Dragon Hill," A-chan mumbled. "How is that possible?" She tried to examine further when she felt a buzzing in the back of her skull. "Hm?" She turned east. "Another piggyback? This one is in the U.S.?" Her eyes narrowed.

Motel, just outside the Redwood National Forest in California; early morning

()

"Well, boys, we jumped out of the frying pan…" Altare commented.

"…And into the fire…" Magni finished as he sat and watched Kobo lay waste to Axel in Valorant. It had been thirty minutes since they met up with Kobo, and she wasted no time in getting a 2v2 going in the game with her and Altare against Axel and Jaune. All the while, they tried discussing their situation, but of course, Kobo made it difficult.

"Ragus! Kill the girly knight!" the Idol screamed as she proceeded to spawn kill Sirios, to the Gladiator's frustration.

"That's kind of hard to do!" Altare told her. "He's pretty good…!" He saw Jaune start shooting at him, forcing him to duck behind a wall.

"Girly Knight!" Kobo complained. "You said you never played Valo!" Jaune, for his part, just shrugged.

"Eh. You play one FPS, you've played them all," he said simply, as he activated his character's warp ability, appearing behind Altare, making the Hero curse. Kobo laughed a bit before her character was shot down.

"Did you just 360 no scope me?!" Kobo screamed.

"How?!" Axel screamed as well. Jaune just chuckled.

"Hehehe…Well, I get bored in FPS games, so I need to spice things up, you know?" Jaune told them. Kobo gave him a look before laughing out loud.

"You! You! You dork! You a king of dorks!" she giggled. Jaune just chuckled sheepishly as Vesper walked through the door with a bag of food.

"Breakfast," he said and placed the bag on the bed next to Magni. The Alchemist looked at it and turned to Vesper in confusion.

"Subway? Really?" he asked.

"Best way to summon the one person who can explain what happened with the fluctuation earlier," the not-Vampire explained, making Magni nod reluctantly.

"True, but I thought you were afraid to talk to her about…" He pointed outside, making the Scholar tense up.

"Something tells me she'll be more concerned about the flux," Altare mumbled distractedly. Currently, Kobo pulled the guys into a party and now the four were annihilating any opposition. Kobo was gleefully leading Jaune and Axel on a sweep through the map.

"Dork King! Go kiiiiilll!" she ordered, and Jaune threw a grenade at a group of enemy players. He pulled his rifle up and followed it until it was just above the group, then he fired, making the grenade explode and kill the group of five. Kobo laughed loudly while Axel cried out.

"HOW are you THIS good?!" he demanded. Jaune shrugged, but before he could answer, Kobo did.

"Because he is a REAL man!" she explained, making Axel's mouth hang open in shock before he hung his head. "Briannnnnnn! Stop moping!"

Vesper sighed as he set a Subway sandwich on the ground. "Well, here we go," he groaned. "Works better with day old subs, but…" This caused the gamers to turn to him as he held his hands up.

Suddenly, everything stopped. Jaune's eyes widened as everything slowed down to a sluggish crawl as a circle of energy surrounded the sub, which started floating. As it reached Vesper's height, a hand suddenly appeared and grabbed it. Jaune was shocked to see a person suddenly appear in the circle.

She was an extremely tall young woman with long dark blue hair wearing a white blouse and a black pinstripe skirt with long black stockings. Her arms were clad in arm sleeves. She opened her blue eyes as she stretched her arms high above her head, barely missing the massive clockface that appeared above her.

"Kronichiwwwaaaaaaa…!" the girl drawled out. "My name is Ouro Kronii. I'm from HoloCouncil, very nice to meet you. And if you don't know me-Oh!" She finally looked at the group, and her expression fell. "It's just you guys."

"Hey, Kronii-senpai!" Magni said with a wave, to which the other Tempus boys quickly said hello as well.

"Hey, Auntie Kronii!" Kobo greeted with a wide smile and wave.

"Oh! Hey, Kobo!" Kronii greeted with a wave. Doing this allowed her to catch sight of Jaune, which made her narrow her eyes. "Who's the new guy?"

"Uh, hey there!" Jaune said with a wave. "I'm Jaune." Kronii gave him a once over.

"Is your last name Arc?" she asked. Jaune blinked in shock.

"Yeah. How'd you know that?" he asked.

"Jaune. This is Kronii, the Warden of Time," Vesper explained. "She commands and watches over the timestreams."

Jaune's eyes widened. "You mean she's a goddess?!"

"Eh. More like she's the personification of time itself," Magni said.

"We're getting a bit off track," Altare interjected. "How do you know Jaune's last name, Kronii?"

"Because I knew I'd meet him, obviously!" Kronii answered with an air of superiority. She ran a hand through her hair and continued, "His appearance marks a turning point for Earth and Sana's-Wait-NO!" Everyone jumped at the sudden change in demeanor from the Warden.

"Kronii-senpai?" Altare asked, but the deity wasn't listening to him.

"He CAN'T be here!" she insisted forcibly, pointing aggressively at Jaune. "It's too early for him to arrive!" She stopped pointing and composed herself a bit before continuing quietly, "I thought I'd have more time. Him being here is a change to the timestream I didn't see. But why didn't I see it?! If he's here-"

A knock on the door interrupted her. Kronii turned and marched to the door, swinging it open with a loud declaration of, "Listen, I'm having an issue here, so please walk away-"

"Good to see you too, Kronii." The Warden of Time's words quickly died on her throat as she stared at the blue haired young woman before her.

"O-Oh! A-chan!" Kronii exclaimed loudly. "H-How are you?! What are you doing here?!"

"Investigating a distortion in the Reality Web," A-chan explained. "I found a piggyback here in the States and noticed your arrival. Did you know there was a space/time anomaly in this location about three minutes ago?"

"Y-Yeah! I know!" Kronii replied. "It'll happen soon!"

"Soon?" A-chan raised an eyebrow.

"It hasn't happened it yet!" Kronii insisted. With a defeated sigh, she continued, "With Arc here, that means it'll happen soon, and no, A-chan, I won't tell you. I need to…" The Warden hesitated a moment. "I need to prepare…"

A-chan raised an eyebrow. "Prepare for what?" she asked as she looked behind Kronii. "Oh! Hello, boys! Kobo!"

"Hey, A-chan!" Tempus and Kobo greeted enthusiastically. Jaune waved hesitantly.

"Uh, hey, A-chan? I'm Jaune Arc!" he introduced himself, making her turn to him.

"Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Jaune. Like they said, I'm A-chan; I'm a staff member of the Agency they work for," A-chan said, but she frowned soon after. "You're a friend of Ruby Rose, correct?"

"Y-Yeah, how did know?" he asked, surprised that this new person knew Ruby.

"Ruby landed just outside Seiso City several hours ago," A-chan explained. "One of our Talents was in the area and brought her to the HQ." Jaune's eyes widened.

"So, she's ok?!" he asked frantically, and A-chan nodded.

"For the moment," she admitted. "She's sleeping right now, since it's night over in Japan, but we believe she'll be fine." With this said, she narrowed her eyes a bit. "That being said, Ruby didn't mention you falling, so I suspect you fell a little after her."

Jaune nodded. "Yeah," he said lowly.

"He landed about two days ago now," Altare told A-chan. "We were just starting our latest request when he fell out of a distortion above us."

"Makes sense. The distortions I examined show the one Jaune likely fell from appeared earlier than the others," A-chan said. "I'll be investigating that later, but for now, Jaune, could I ask you to describe what happened after Ruby and the others fell?"

"S-Sure thing." He relayed what had happened after Ruby had fallen into the Void, and when he was done, A-chan was grimacing.

"Oh, dear…" A-chan's distress worried Jaune. "You should know, Jaune, that you and Ruby weren't the only ones to appear on Earth." Jaune's eyes widened as the feeling of dread pooled in his gut. "Several of the civilians that Cinder Fall blew off the Crossroads appeared via the parent-distortion over a park in Seiso." She hesitated for a moment. "Penny's body was among the deceased we recovered…"

Jaune's face fell as all color left him. "O-Oh…" He fell to his knees. "So, Ruby knows Penny's…" A-chan nodded.

"Yes. Her body's being taken care of by our resident mortician as we speak, as well as the other bodies of the Remnant refugees who died by Cinder or by Ochiba's Beasts." A-chan frowned sadly. "I don't think she'll take this news well…"

They heard a snort from Kronii. "Nah. She'll take it fairly well, more upset that Jaune was forced to make that decision, and at Penny for even considering it," she told them. Everyone looked at her.

"How do you-?" Jaune asked, but Kronii just smirked.

"Warden of Time, remember? But hey, if you don't believe me…" Kronii snapped her fingers, and suddenly, Jaune heard the sound of a clock ticking loudly in his ears as suddenly, all of his fatigue and exhaustion vanished and the motel vanished, leaving the group standing in a spacious and tactfully decorated lobby. "…You can ask her yourself."

Jaune was about to ask what she meant when he heard a familiar voice call out, "Jaune…?"

Moments earlier

()

Hololive HQ, Seiso City, Japan; 6:03 A.M.

Ruby exited her apartment with a groan. Sleep had come easily to her last night, but it wasn't fitful. The young Huntress had tossed and turned all night as a terrible bad dream plagued her, but for the life of her, she couldn't remember it all that well. She yawned loudly into her hand as she tried to stay awake, absently tugging at the slightly baggy Hololive shirt A-chan had laid out for her. The jeans were a bit tight, but she could deal with it for the moment.

She was thrown out of her thoughts when she accidently hit someone in the side. "O-Oh! I'm so sorry!" she apologized. However, the young woman she hit just chuckled.

"It's fine," the girl commented. "I was in a rush myself!" Her clear blue eyes looked over Ruby curiously. "Newbie?"

"N-Not really. I just arrived to Earth yesterday, and Sora said she'd help me with the situation my home world is having," Ruby explained, making the girl hum in interest.

"How interesting! I'd like to hear more, but I've got a mission that can't wait." She waved at Ruby as she turned to leave. "Nice meeting you!"

"You too!" The blue-eyed Idol chuckled as she walked away. However, she turned slightly to stare at the girl discreetly.

'I sense the Alter-Effect around her, but she isn't being Altered. Or at least, she is, but it's not finished yet.' A glint formed in her eyes. 'But she's got some crazy potential! I need to finish this job quickly, so I can come back and test her personally!'

Back with Ruby, she watched the girl walk off and sighed. "Well, I guess I should find a cafeteria or something…or see if there's any food in my apartment," she mumbled as she turned and blinked when she saw a young child pouting at a door. She had long silver hair and big golden eyes; she wore an oversized black jacket and shackles around her wrists, ankles, and neck, and two large black horns with purple bands stuck out of the side of her head. Curious, she walked over to the girl.

The girl reached out and tried to open the door, but it wouldn't budge. She pouted harder and pushed it, but it still didn't move. She growled put both hands on the door and tried pushing with all her might. The door still didn't move. She groaned loudly as she struggled to apply more pressure.

"Excuse me?" The girl turned her annoyed gaze to see Ruby staring at her with uncertainty. "Do…Do you need some help?" Ruby asked slowly. The golden eyed girl stared at the Huntress with a hard look as she gazed up at Ruby.

She stared for a long while before nodding, moving away from the door to stare at Ruby in curiosity. Ruby took hold of the doorknob and twisted, revealing it was unlocked, but it seemed like it is jammed. She placed another hand on the door, and unbeknownst to her, her eyes glowed for a brief moment as a tuff of silver flame bloomed from the side of her eyes.

However, the horned girl did notice. She tilted her head in interest as an almost unnoticeable shimmer vanished from the door. Ruby pushed the door with a small grunt, causing it to swing open. She turned to the girl and smiled. "There you go! It was just a little stuck!" she said.

The girl continued staring at Ruby with her bright gold eyes for a moment before she gave the Huntress a wide smirking grin. Without warming, she raced into the room, leaving Ruby in confusion until she heard a loud, childlike voice scream out, "WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!"

"GYAAAAAAAH!" another voice cried out form the room, making Ruby jump in surprise. "LAP-CHAN! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY ROOM?!"

"RISE AND SHINE, CHLOE! WE GOT HOLO-X BUSINESS TO ATTEND TO!" the childlike voice shouted cheerfully.

"…Did you have to wake me up at six in the morning?"

"YES! NOW HURRY UP!"

"Ugh! Fine! Get out! I gotta change! OUT!" The horned girl jumped out of the room giggling as the door slammed behind her. Ruby stared down at her confused as the girl looked up and grinned at her.

"Hey! Thanks for opening the door! Chole's always trying to keep me out of there, and her tricks are getting tougher!" the girl said.

"Um…You're welcome…?" Ruby asked, unsure of what else to say. "But should you really be doing that…?" The girl waved it off.

"I most certainly can! She is my subordinate, after all!" the girl boasted. "Allow me to introduce myself! I am the great Laplus Darkness! Founder and leader of the secret society known as Holo-X! You may praise me now!" the now named La+ said grandly as she placed her hands on her side and puffed up self-importantly.

Ruby stared at her in bemusement. "…Uh, isn't the point of a secret society NOT to be known?" she asked. La+ waved it off.

"Don't sweat the small stuff!" the apparent Holo-X leader said brightly. "It's all part of the plan, you see!"

"The plan?"

"She means we're flat broke, and being Idols is currently our only source of income," the voice from the room called out as a young woman with long silver hair and bright red eyes exited. Her outfit consisted of a white blouse, red skirt and ripped stockings, and a large black jacket with red lining. She also wore a black choker with a heart charm around her neck. La+'s expression dropped as she turned to pout at the newcomer.

"Chloeeeeeee!" La+ whined. "Don't ruin the moment!" The silver haired girl rolled her eyes.

"Just stating the obvious," she said before turning to Ruby and smiling. "Kon'nichiwa! My name is Sakamata Chloe! Cleaner of Holo-X! Nice to meet you!" she said, her genuine smile putting Ruby at ease a bit, and she smiled back.

"Kon'nichiwa. I'm Ruby Rose," Ruby introduced herself. "Nice to meet you too!"

"So, you a new Idol for Hololive or somethin'?"

"Not really. I landed on Earth yesterday, and after Sora heard of the trouble my home was having, she offered to help," Ruby explained, making the two's eyes light up in understanding.

"Ahhh! I see!" Chloe's smile brightened a bit. "That does sound like Sora-senpai! So, you trying to find her, I'm guessing?"

"That'd be nice. But really, I'm hungry, and was about to look for the cafeteria," Ruby said.

"Then it's a good thing I'm here!" Everyone turned to see Fubuki walking down the hallway, waving.

"Oh! Hey, Fubuki-senpai!" La+ exclaimed in surprise. "What's up?!" Fubuki smiled at the group.

"Just came up to see if Ruby was awake, and since she is, invite her downstairs for breakfast and meeting some Idols here at HQ," the foxgirl explained before turning to Ruby. "Sound good to you?"

Ruby nodded. "Yeah. Sounds great!"

"Yatta! Let's get going then! You two coming along?!" Fubuki asked the Secret Society members.

"Nah! We'll meet you there! Gotta wake up the others!" La+ said with a salute. Fubuki rolled her eyes.

"Ok!" She turned to Ruby and said, "Ready?" Ruby nodded again, and Fubuki motioned down the hall. The two walked off as La+ and Chloe stared on after them. Suddenly, Chloe heard La+ snickering evilly. She looked down to see her leader with a conspiring grin on her face.

"Uh…Lap-chan?" the Orca asked.

"I haven't meet one like her in a long, long, long time!" La+ commented giddily, which worried Chloe.

La+ only ever got like this when she had an actual plan for world domination.

"Lap-chan? Please think about this-" Chloe tried to plead, but La+ interrupted her.

"Her innate magic is potent! It easily erased the locking spell you had on your door, Chloe!" La+ continued.

"That explains how you got into my room…"

"You don't get it! Erased! Not broke or cancelled! She erased the spell! That's power we can use!"

"Lap-chan-!"

"Chloe! Wake the others!" La+'s face split into a wide grin. "We're gonna recruit Ruby Rose into Holo-X!"

An: And so, Kronii, La+, Chloe, and a certain blue haired Idol have made an appearance! Hope y'all enjoyed this chapter! The next one should be out within the next week or two. 'Till then!
