Chapter 13: Spearow Tri Surprise & New Partner

A young boy in a small section of the forest was battling a wild Tynamo with his Pokémon partner, a Noibat. "Here we go, Pieper. You ready?" The boy asked. "Noi." Noibat, nicknamed Pieper, said. "TY!" Tynamo charged towards Pieper at super speed. "Look out! It's using Tackle! Dodge it!" The boy called. "Bat!" Pieper flew up, dodging Tynamo's Tackle. "Now strike! Wing Attack!" The boy called. "Noi…bat!" Pieper flew down as her wings glowed white and struck Tynamo hard. "Ty…" Tynamo groaned as he struggled to get up. "Nice work, Pieper. Now's the time. Go PokéBall!" The boy called, tossing a PokéBall at Tynamo. The PokéBall tapped Tynamo and sucked him in. The PokéBall shook for a few seconds until it dinged, sealing the capture. The boy picked up the PokéBall. "We did it, Pieper. We caught our first Pokémon." He said. "Noi." Pieper said as she perched herself on her trainer's head. Suddenly, they heard voices talking and decided to investigate.

Nearby, Gilbert, Yolanda, Sakura and their Pokémon were sitting down to have a break with snacks. As they ate, Gilbert was polishing his gym badges. "Saur?" Ivysaur asked. "I know, Ivysaur. I'm looking forward to challenging the Saffron Gym and winning my fourth badge." Gilbert said. "You've really been waiting for this one ever since we left Vermillion City, haven't you?" Sakura asked. "I sure have. Guess I'm very easily excited." Gilbert said. "We all get easily excited whenever we get a step closer to our goals." Yolanda said. Just then, there was a rustle in the bushes. Everyone looked up and saw the young boy walking over to them with Pieper on his head. "Oh, hello. I was just nearby when I heard you all." The young boy said. "Well, what a nice surprise." Gilbert said. "Yeah, nice to see a friendly face." Sakura said. "Um, may I please join you? I haven't eaten much since this morning." The young boy said, gesturing to his growling tummy. "Sure. Grab a seat." Yolanda said. "We always welcome friendly strangers." Gilbert said.

The young boy sat down with them as they gave him some food. And Machop was generous to share his food with Pieper. As they ate, Gilbert got out his Pokédex and scanned Pieper.

Noibat, the Sound Wave Pokémon, a Dragon-and-Flying-Type. Noibat's ears emit ultrasonic waves that can help guide it through the darkest of tunnels and create hearing problems for its opponents.

"Anyway, my name's Gilbert from Pallet Town." Gilbert introduced, putting away his Pokédex. "And I'm Yolanda from Pewter City." Yolanda introduced. "And I'm Sakura from Ecruteak City." Sakura introduced. "It's nice to meet you. My name's Tad. Tad Garcia." The young boy, Tad, introduced. That made Yolanda gasp. "Oh my gosh! I know that last name!" She exclaimed. "What're you talking about, Yolanda?" Sakura asked in confusion. "Tad's the son of a very wealthy family known as the Garcias. They own a famous sanctuary called the Garcia Sanctuary. It's where the Garcia family cares for Pokémon that've been injured and abused. The trainers who abused those Pokémon were sent to jail for life with no way to escape due to there being a lot of AI police robots watching over their prisoners." Yolanda explained. "Those robots were actually built by a good friend of mine. Maxwell McGrath." Tad said. "Oh, I've heard of him too. He's one of the best geniuses in the world." Yolanda said. "Yeah, Max is quite an amazing kid for such a young age. Ever since he was 6-years-old." Tad said.

Suddenly, a Pokémon swooped in and grabbed Gilbert's sandwich. "Hey, my sandwich!" He exclaimed. The Pokémon, revealed to be a Spearow, landed in a tree and ate Gilbert's sandwich. "It's a Spearow!" Sakura said. "Hey! Give me back my snack!" Gilbert demanded. But Spearow gulped down the last of Gilbert's sandwich and blew a raspberry at him. Gilbert growled as he got out his Pokédex and scanned Spearow.

Spearow, the Tiny Bird Pokémon, a Normal-and-Flying-Type. Spearow have very vicious tempers due to their abilities to fly in massive flocks. They can alert the other members of their flocks by letting out loud shrieks that can be heard over a kilometer.

"Okay, you wanna be vicious and steal my sandwich? Then I challenge you to a battle!" Gilbert exclaimed. "Spear!" Spearow squawked. "Sounds like a yes to me." Yolanda said. "Alright. Since Spearow's a Flying-Type, then let's battle in the skies. Hoothoot, I choose you!" Gilbert called. "Hoothoot!" Hoothoot flew up towards Spearow, preparing to battle. "Be careful, Gilbert! Remember, Spearow can be very vicious." Sakura said. "I know. But Hoothoot's just as fierce when it comes to battling. We've been practicing a lot." Gilbert said. "Hoot!" Hoothoot hooted in agreement. Spearow flew into the air and formed a red orb, a yellow orb and a blue orb in front of its beak, creating a white triangle. "Spear…row!" Spearow fired the triangle at Hoothoot, doing some serious damage and knocking her out of the sky. "Hoothoot!" Gilbert cried. "What the heck was that?!" Sakura asked. "That was Tri Attack, one of the egg moves Spearow can learn." Yolanda said. "Hoothoot, are you okay?" Gilbert asked with concern. "Hoot…hoot!" Hoothoot said as she recovered. "Great. Can you continue?" Gilbert asked. "Hoot!" Hoothoot squawked, taking off back into the air. "Be careful. Tri Attack does a lot of damage while having 3 type properties of Fire, Ice and Electric." Yolanda said.

Hoothoot and Spearow continue battling through the sky, trying to wear each other down. "Spear…" Spearow prepared another Tri Attack. "Hoothoot, quick, use Supersonic!" Gilbert called. "HOOT!" Hoothoot screeched, letting out clear soundwaves. The soundwaves hit Spearow, causing the Tri Attack to disappear. Suddenly, Spearow's eyes glowed red as it started flying around in dizzy circles. "Spearow's confused!" Sakura exclaimed. "Alright, Hoothoot, Tackle it!" Gilbert called. "Hoot…!" Hoothoot flew up towards Spearow and tackled it hard. Spearow fell from the sky. "Go, PokéBall!" Gilbert called, throwing a PokéBall. The PokéBall hit Spearow and sucked it in. As the PokéBall landed on the ground, it shook for a few moments and dinged, sealing the capture. "Nice! I caught a Spearow!" Gilbert cheered as he picked up the PokéBall. "Hoothoot!" Hoothoot cheered.

Yolanda, Sakura and Tad were happy for Gilbert's new capture. But the celebration was short-lived when a giant metal claw came out of nowhere and snatched Pieper! "NOI!" Pieper cried. "Pieper!" Tad cried. The gang turned to see where the metal claw came from. There, in the woods, stood Hun and Attila. "Team Rocket!" They exclaimed simultaneously. "Nice to see you all again." Attila said, sarcastically. "Give me back Pieper!" Tad exclaimed angrily. "Not a chance. Your Noibat will serve Team Rocket well, willingly or not." Hun said. Tad growled angrily at that. "Then you leave me no choice! Go…Sparcx!" He called, tossing his Pokemon and releasing his newest capture. "Tynamo!" Tynamo, now nicknamed Sparcx, cried as he came out. "What Pokémon is that?" Gilbert said as he got out his Pokédex and scanned Sparcx.

Tynamo, the EleFish Pokémon, an Electric-Type. Tynamo have a single organ that generates electricity. It discharges that electricity when it's in danger. Schools of Tynamo generate enough electricity to create a shock that is comparable to lightning.

Hun and Attila laughed mockingly at Sparcx. "Seriously? What can that tiny little Pokémon do to stop us?" Attila asked mockingly. "Let us show you. Sparcx, use Charge Beam!" Tad ordered. "Ty…MO!" Tynamo formed a ball of electrical energy in front of his mouth and fired it as a beam at Team Rocket. Hun and Attila screamed in pain as they were being shocked. The electricity shorted out the metal claw and freed Pieper from its grasp. "Noi!" Pieper screeched in joy as she flew back to Tad. "Pieps! You okay, girl?" Tad asked, hugging Pieper in relief. "Noi, noi." Pieper said. "Great. Then let's send these criminals packing. Use Dragon Rush!" Tad ordered. "Noi…BAT!" Noibat charged towards Team Rocket while they were still shaken from Sparcx's Charge Beam. She glowed bright blue and became engulfed in a giant bright blue dragon, bashing into Hun and Attila, sending them flying. "Oh, why does this always happen to us?!" Attila exclaimed angrily. "I swear, those kids are gonna be sorry they ever crossed us." Hun said. "We're blasting off again!" They shouted as they disappeared into the distance.

With that taken care of, Gilbert and his friends prepared to continue their journey. "You did a good job handling Team Rocket back there, Tad." Gilbert said. "Thanks. Although, if it's not a bother, will you let me come with you? The truth is, I'm still just a beginner. I started my journey just 2 days ago." Tad said. "Really? You're still a beginner?" Sakura asked. "Yes. Pieper was my starter, raised by my sisters in the Garcia Sanctuary. Sparcx was my first capture. There's so much more I have yet to learn." Tad said. "Well then, if it's adventure you're after, then you're most welcome to join us." Yolanda said. "Yeah, we're always happy to include new trainers like you." Sakura said. "Really? Thank you." Tad said. "No problem, Tad. You're about to take your next big step with becoming a great trainer." Gilbert said. With that said, our heroes continue on their journey towards Saffron City.
