Chapter 4: The Journey begins.

"The hero of a new dawn. The Argonaut. Brought forth the beginning of a new era… The Age of Heroes. Inspiring others to follow the path of a hero and…''

Luke trailed off, hearing a weak snoring sound beside him. Leaning against him was the form of his little brother, fast asleep as his chest moved up and down, a peaceful semblant present on his face. A smile appeared on the elf's face as he closed the book he was reading.

He picked up the sleeping boy gently , careful as to not startle him awake. He then proceeded to silently make his way towards Bells bedroom, each step he took on the wooden floor made no sound. Courtesy of his teachers' training, who drilled this silent step to the point it became natural to him.

Opening the bedroom door, he walked towards the bedside. In a few precise movements, he tucked the boy under the blanket. The elf quietly made his way out, slowly closing the door.

''Hey, what about— Humph'' Zeus gagged as a hand was pressed firmly against his mouth.

''Keep it quiet old man. Bell's already asleep!'' Luke whispered, frowning at the god's carelessness.

He removed his hand over Zeus' mouth.

''Oops, my bad! I just wanted to see with you about updating your status.'' Zeus whispered, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.

Luke opened the door slightly and saw the still sleeping boy, he sighed in relief as he closed the door again.

''Lets do it on my room.'' Luke gestured for his god to follow him. The two quietly moved around the house, soon reaching the last door of the corridor where the elfs bedroom was located.

''You know the drill— Take off your shirt and sit on the bed.'' Luke rolled his eyes as he took off his shirt, exposing his toned, lean muscles of his upper body and the Zeus Familia emblem on his back. He had developed an athletic body with the past 5 years of rigorous training.

He sat cross legged on the bed with his back turned towards his god. Zeus pulled out a small knife, piercing the tip of his index finger as he got to work.

Luke felt something wet hit the middle of his back, and his familia crest started to glow. Afterwards, Zeus started to scribble on the sheet of paper in his hand. After a minute he was done and handed over the paper to his child.

The elf clenched the status sheet in his hands in anger once he read it.

'Dammit! almost no progress.'

Ever since Alfia and Zald left 2 months ago he had stagnated. His primary source of excelia was the intense battles against the two level 7s, and so, with their absence his progress rate has plummeted.

The only alternative he had was to train alone, using shadow training; fighting against imaginary opponents, practicing spells and pushing his body any way he could. That coupled with monster hunting, had become his training routine.

It obviously paled in comparison to his previous routine. Frustrating Luke to no end as no growth was apparent after each status update, hardly gaining 1 or 2 points on any of the basic abilities after weeks of arduous training. At this rate, he would remain stuck at his current level… He wouldn't be able to fulfill his promise.

He needed to match up to his parents' prowess. He had to… But how?

''What's bothering you kid? The status sheet is almost begging for mercy with how hard you are glaring at him.'' Zeus' gruff voice brought the elf out of his inner conflict.

Luke furrowed his eyebrows as he turned to the god with a stern face.

''You've already noticed, haven't you? I'm barely gaining anything with my current training, no matter what I do or how hard I try… Update after update and my abilities have only grow a handful of points after two whole months!''

Zeus sighed, taking a seat by the bedside.

''Yeah, I've noticed. But there's not much I can do about it or say that would satisfy you…'' The god stated in a serene, fatherly tone.

''Then what should I do? I won't be able to level up in many years at this rate, much less grow to my full potential… I won't be able to pursue my goals, nor keep my promise.'' He looked dejected at his god, desperate to find a way forward.

''What do you yearn for, kid? What is it that drives your forwards, that keeps you going even when your legs give out below out? Your life goal… Your dream.''

Luke was perplexed by Zeus' unexpectedly deep question.

What is my goal… To grow as strong as his parents and surpass them, sure— but why though, just because of his promise before their departure ?

No

He wanted to slay that abomination that took them from him, and destroyed both his Familias, taking almost everything from him that day. There was no doubt about it.

Yet, there was something else…

As he thought back on his life, a memory suddenly struck him.

''Mom, why does the other elves don't like?''

''Oh my son… That's because they are too ingrained in the retrograde ways our culture teaches them since they are little. You are not to blame.''

''But cant I change their views on me, maybe if they get to know me they will change?''

''I'm afraid it's not enough. It's hard to find ones with an open mind on the matter, even the more tolerant ones of our race struggle with their roots.''

''There's really nothing i can do?…''

''Perhaps… Our culture holds our heroes and great warriors in high regard, no matter their appearances or backgrounds. Maybe if one day you become strong and famous, everyone would be more open to accept you. Perhaps even see you as a role model or a prime example amongst our race… who knows?''

''Ill become a hero then! Youll see, everyone will like me then!''

''That's great, but you must remember the meaning of that! A hero is more than someone whos respected and admired, he's a symbol that represents the good in people's hearts. He's the one that rallies the common folk towards the path of the righteous, and inspires them to be better!

''Wow, really? I won't forget it, I promise! Ill be someone that will help those in need and show everyone that good is the right way!''

''Hahaha… Well see my dear, but first you must get stronger if you want to want to bring change and be recognized by everyone.''

''I will train hard and become as cool as mom and dad, I swear it!''

"I'm sure you'll be someone that will make us proud, Luke. Just remember to don't overdo it, okay?"

Luke smiled in amusement at his past childish dreams.

''When I was little I made a promise to my mom… I said I wanted to be as strong as they were and become a hero. Not only to help people and better the world, but also to change my race prejudice towards their own kind… To prove that even someone they saw as 'cursed' could become a source of admiration.''

The elf's mismatched eyes narrowed.

''And now, to bring an end to that despicable beast that took them from me as well…'' Venom seeped through his tongue as he thought about the dragon.

''Quite ambitious goals I see! But I'm afraid they are out of your reach in your current circumstances.'' The elf stood up indignantly. ''Then what—'' Zeus spoke up, cutting him off mid rant. ''Yet…You still have a clear path towards them... Orario.''

Lukes words died on his throat as he heard his god's solution to his internal crisis.

''W-What? What do you mean…'' Zeus turned towards his child, a sly smile on his face.

''The Dungeon, boy! Everyone that seeks to grow stronger and notorious for whatever reason, go to Orario; be it for wealth, fame or women—especially women ~'' He finished with a sultry tone.

Luke ignored Zeus' perverted comment, too engrossed in the new idea.

''But I can't go… I would have to leave you guys behind… Alfia would skin me alive if she knew I left her son alone…'' The elf sat down again, trying to wrap his head around the situation.

He couldn't leave the only family he had left. Not like that… He knew where Zeus was coming from. Joining a Familia and venturing in the depths of the dungeon would be the optimal solution to his problem.

But…

Would it be fair with them? For him to chase his dreams and leave them because of his selfish desires. Hera and Zeus could never return to the city, not with Loki and Freya being the powerhouses of Orario.

And there was the matter with Bell.

Since Alfia and Zald left, the boy clung more and more to him, using him as emotional support in their absence. He hated to admit it, but Bell would be desolated if he left him.

''I can't just leave you lot like that… especially Bell.'' Zeus chuckled at his reasoning.

''I didn't peg you for a coward, kid… You see, every hero I've personally seen had to make sacrifices in their journey, more often than not. Leaving family and friends, losing their dearest comrades or even sacrificing their lives… You can't be afraid to lose if that's the path you want to trail. Besides, we will be fine living here without you; even Bell would overcome your absence with us beside him!''

Those words spoke of eons of wisdom, of someone that saw this same situation more times than he could count.

''If you really want to strive, you need to get out of your comfort zone, kid. After all, heroes are born from trials and tribulations. '' Zeus finished with a hearty laugh.

Luke didnt respond as he battled with his feelings inside of his head.

Zeus was right, the only viable option he had to reach his goals was to move to Orario. But it wasn't so simple… If he joined a deity and it's Familia, it would become nearly impossible for him to see them again.

The Guild was very strict when it came for adventurers from Familias that operated in Orario to leave the city proper, the only exception being with quests that needed to be done outside the labyrinth city.

''Get some sleep, kid. Ive heard from the village elder that some merchants will leave in a couple of days. Take this time to think this through before you make a decision.'' Zeus brought him out of his inner conflict.

Luke nodded reluctantly as the deity took his exit.

The elf put his shirt back on and layed on the bed. Trying to get some sleep, with this new dilemma weightening on his mind.

Luke was taught to always think using logic and facts. And it was a fact that he needed to delve in the dungeon if he wanted to evolve and pursue his dream. Logically speaking, this was a no-brainer. But no matter how much he rationalized his decision, his heart clenched whenever his gaze fell on the white-haired boy, who looked fascinated at him as the two rested below a tree after his training session.

''Can you teach me how to fight, nii-san!?'' The boy asked excitedly. The elf cleared his thoughts as he smiled playfully.

''I think you are too young for that, Bell. Maybe when you get older.'' Bell pouted at his response.

''You are mean… I can handle some training! How can I keep the promise I made to my mom if i dont?'' Bells voice was dejected at the mention of Alfia.

Luke gazed at the horizon, his thoughts coming back in full force.

Bell had been stubborn on his decision to start training, no matter what Luke said, the boy wouldn't budge, hellbent on becoming stronger so he could fulfill his vow to her.

Just like he had to his mother...

''Hey, Bell… do you— would you, be willing to leave us behind if it meant fulfilling the promise you made that day?'' Luke inquired in a plain tone. Bell was taken back with the sudden, deep question.

''W-What d-do you mean by that?'' The elf serious gaze focused on the boys confused face. ''It means what I said. Would you leave those you love to pursue your life goal, or would you willingly abandon your dreams for them?''

Bell looked dumbfounded as he tried to think of a response. The elf patiently awaited.

''I-I guess if I d-dont have another choice, and y-you guys aren't in danger… I would probably leave if I had to, j-just like mom and uncle Zald…'' Lukes lips curled up into a satisfied smile at his answer.

He really was an idiot.

Even the boy had the courage to leave his comfort and risk himself for his goals, while he drowned in self-doubt and inaction. If he had to leave them to chase his dreams, then so be it…

'I guess this is it then...' He thought as he looked at the confused boy.

''Bell… I'm going to Orario.'' Bell's confusion was now mixed with worry. ''W-What!? Y-You are le-leaving?'' Luke's resolute nod confirmed his fears.

''I can't accomplish my goals if I stay here… To get stronger, I need to go to Orario and become an adventurer. I hope you can understand…'' A hurt expression flashed through the boy's face.

''Do you really need to go?...''

''Unfortunately, yes I do. My progress has stalled since Alfia and Zald left, despite me doing everything to try and enhance my training… I'm barely getting any results. My best bet is to join a deity and their Familia and explore the dungeon. I know this sounds too sudden, but I have to do this!'' Luke spoke honestly.

Silence befell between the two as the elf closed his eyes, expecting the boy to lash out at him for his selfish decision.

He was met with a tight embrace instead.

''Y-You'll become a g-great adventurer, wont you nii-san?'' Bells voice came muffled, his face buried on his brother's chest. The elf's s smile almost reached ear to ear.

''Yes, Bell… I will.''

"He won't go, and that's the end of it!'' Hera's said loudly, her tone gave no room for argument.

''Ma, Ma, dont be unreasonable now. We can't force him to stay, the kid got to live his own life.'' Zeus rebbuted.

Luke looked between the two with an annoyed face, becoming the third wheel in the discussion.

''And what would be the reason I can't go? As far as I know, I can move to the city without problem, as long as I don't have Zeus falna anymore!'' The elf stood up for himself.

Their exile was forced by the hand of Freya and Loki, there was no official banishment by the part of the Guild. So, as long as he didn't have Zeus falna and wasn't affiliated with either of the deities anymore, there was nothing they could do to bar his stay in Orario.

''That's…. I can't say it. But you know damn well why, old man. Soon, that will happen, and I don't want him caught in the middle of it!''

Zeus crossed his arms, a teasing smile adorned his face.

''Too bad he isn't your child, huh? I won't stop him, much to the contrary, he has my blessing to go!... Also that might even be beneficial to his growth.''

Luke was getting impatient with this back and forth, they had been arguing for a couple of minutes now until Zeus called him to join the conversation.

''Okay, you two clearly know something that I don't … Would one of you kindly enlighten me on the matter?'' The elf interjected, his brows furrowed in a frown.

''No can do, kid.''

''No! ''

Luke sighed. These two were sometimes a piece of work to deal with…

''Fine, if you don't give us a good reason, then there's nothing barring me from going!'' Luke stated matter-of-factly. Zeus nodded in support, standing beside the elf.

Heras demeanor switched from angered, to troubled as time ticked by. In the end she gave up.

''Argh, fine! I guess there's nothing I can do to change your mind on the matter… It seems Alfia has already passed you her stubbornness as well…'' Hera said begrudgingly.

Luke eyed her with curiosity as she started to move towards the bedroom closet. She rummaged through its contents, pulling out a black piece of clothing.

''I was saving this for your birthday, but we can't wait till then, can we?'' She extended the garb toward the elf, giving him a clear view of it.

''A robe?''

He inspected the item. It was a black robe with a hood, it didn't seem all that special.

''Not any robe. It's a black goliath robe. It's made of the thick skin of an irregular version of the monster rex. It spawned once it detected my presence in the dungeon.'' Hera explained, getting embarrassed at the last part.

''What!? What were you doing down there, are you crazy?'' Luke inquired quietly, keeping it down as not to disturb the sleeping boy in the other room.

Hera fidgeted in the spot awkwardly, while avoiding looking in his direction.

''W-Well, you see… I descended there only to sate my curiosity. The last expedition on the deep floors had found something extremely out of place, so much that I had to see with my own eyes. A blond girl frozen inside a crystal… I could hardly believe it when I saw it. We tried everything. Brute force, magic; even Zeus boys got there to help... but in the end we couldn't free her from her prison. On the way back, the dungeon sensed me on the 18th floor and spawned the black goliath. My girls easily took care of him, and collected his drop item, his hard skin. It made for some durable clothing, I tell you!''

Lukes indignation was replaced with bewilderment.

''A girl in the dungeon… But how?'' Hera shrugged her shoulders.

''Good question. We couldnt piece together anything that hinted at her origin or why she was there… She still remains in the dungeon as far as I know!''

Luke tried out the robe while thinking about this new information. He had never heard of anything like that about the dungeon…. It made for some good food for thought in the future.

''Thanks for the gift, grandma!'' Hera clicked her tongue, while her husband laughed lightly at the elf's teasing.

''Hahahaha— I'm going to miss these moments… You should finish packing your things, kid. Tomorrows your big day, the day your journey finally begins!'' Zeus said with a grin. Luke said his goodbyes and took his leave.

''You know he will suffer greatly with the conflict that approaches Orario, don't you?'' Hera questioned, her whole demeanor was serious. Zeus sighed, nodding in confirmation.

''I do… I'm also concerned for his safety, but that doesn't mean I will shelter him from the dangers of the world. He must live his life to it's fullest. The kid has a dream, one that he's longing for with all his heart… That upcoming chaos may only strengthen his resolve or make him reconsider his choice... We can only hope he endures all of it…'' Zeus spoke honestly.

The two deities gazes were locked on the door the elf had just exited from. Sharing a deep worry for the elf's future.

The sun crept over the horizon, slowly giving start to a new bright day. The day that Luke would make his first big step towards his dream.

A small caravan, composed of three merchant carriages loaded the last traded goods, getting ready for the long journey ahead. At the rear of one of the carriages, a certain elf said his last goodbyes to his loved ones.

''Hey there, now… I need you to be strong for me, okay. Our grandparents are counting on you from now on!'' Luke patted the mop of white hair that clung to his leg.

The boy lifted his head, looking at him with teary eyes.

''I-I will… Y-You take c-care out there, nii-san!''

The elf crouched down to Bell's level. "You too Bell... Perhaps in the future when you are older we can meet again in Orario and explore the dungeon together. That's if you want to become an adventurer as well…"

Bell's eyes gained a hopeful glint as he nodded resolutely.

"O-Of course I will! I'll become a great adventurer and fight alongside you, nii-san! "

Luke ruffled his little brother's hair in response.

"I'll meet you there then. Make sure to look for me before you join any Familia; I wouldn't want to be separated from you for something silly like that!" He flashed the boy a bright smile, before standing up and looking at his deity.

"I'm forever grateful for everything you have done for me till now, and for that I thank you…. Also try not to sway Bell to your lecherous ways, old man."

Luke said dryly, extending a hand to his God. Zeus shook his hand firmly.

"No promises— I-I mean I won't , don't worry." Zeus tried to save face after he sensed Hera's murderous glare.

Luke chuckled, shaking his head side to side in amusement.

"Never change you two…" He mumbled, moving towards the goddess.

She enveloped him in a sudden, tight embrace.

"Be careful out there, child. Monsters pale in comparison to what some people are capable of…. I love you, Luke."

Her tears stained his shirt as he returned the embrace.

"Love you too… and don't worry, I'll be cautious… I also hope you don't end up killing the man before I see you two again."

Hera sent a sharp look at the pervert who whistled facing away from them, faking obliviousness.

"We'll see about that… but don't keep your hopes up." She jested as the two let go of each other. Zeus cleared his throat, gaining their attention.

"If you play your cards right, you can get everything you wish and more in Orario. But once you set foot there, you'll be drawn into the ebb and flow of history. That's just the kind of place it is..." His God said in a plain tone, as if simply stating a fact.

"But... That's exactly what gives you the chance of becoming a hero. So, if you are ready, go and make us proud, Luke!" He finished with a big grin on his face.

Luke had to wipe his eyes to cleanse the tears that threatened to leak out. He nodded resolutely at his God.

"I will!" He proclaimed with all his determination.

"I'm aware you probably know this already, but... I'll only say this. Don't compromise yourself for anyone. Not for a spirit, nor for a god. Don't blindly obey. Decide for yourself. This your story after all, you must write it with each step you choose to take!"

Luke eyed the god with serious look on his face, nodding in affirmation.

" I'll miss you guys..."

''We too, kid...we too... But you should get going then, the merchants have just finished loading up.'' Zeus pointed out. The elf looked at the rest of the caravan, seeing them ready to go.

''Alright, thank you guys for everything. Take care!''

He said his last goodbye, signaling to the driver before embarking on the closest carriage. From the back opening, he saw the three waving at him beside each other as the cart began to move. He waved back until they couldnt be seen any more once they left the village and hit the road towards the center of the world.

He laid on his back, getting himself comfortable in the cramped space he had for the rest of the ride because of the merchandise they were transporting. He thought about his next steps from now on.

Things were not to be so simple as to join a Familia, delve into the dungeon and get stronger. No, it was way more complicated than that. He wanted to find a reliable and good intentioned deity. A good portion of the deities that descended from heaven, did so purely for entertainment when they got bored of their godhood up there. Because of that, it was rare to find one that genuinely cared for the mortals.

If he chose badly, he would be stuck under said deity for a whole year before he could try and find another. The falna had a cooldown of a year before you are able to receive the blessing from another deity, effectively bidding him into said god or goddess until at least a year passed. He had to think carefully before he committed.

'I'll deal with the cards that are handed to me when I get there' He thought, closing his eyes.

Soon, the monotonous sound of the carriage moving and the sligh sway, quickly brought sleep on him.

''So, what does a country bumpkin like you seek in the center of the world, huh? Fame, money?... Perhaps even women?~'' The merchant asked the elf sitting beside him, a teasing smile on his face. Lukes eyebrow and ear twitched in annoyance.

'For heaven's sake, when did every man in this world become as thirsty as Zeus!?''

''N-Not exactly… Just someone chasing their dreams. Becoming an adventurer is the best path to achieve them.''

The middle aged man, Erwin; as he had introduced himself; hummed in amusement.

''That's actually more common than you think, especially between younger folk like yourself… On another note. You are pretty strange for an elf you know!? Most that I've met were condescending pricks that looked down on other races, but that doesn't seem to be your case…'' The elf chuckled.

''That's because I'm not really popular amongst them myself…'' Luke pointed to his hair and eyes. ''Most consider me to be a bad omen or something like that, just because of my black hair and mismatched eyes. They hate my guts for it, even going as far as trying to kill me when I was born… Because of that I wasn't raised in an elven forest, and didn't end up picking up on their prejudices. On the contrary, I despise their customs.'' He explained in a disdainful tone.

Erwin whistled in bewilderment. ''Damn… I knew they were kind of assholes, but to this extent… life's though, I guess.''

''Unfortunately… In fact, one of the reasons I want to become an adventurer is to prove to them that even a reject in their eyes, can be someone people admire. Kind of spiteful, I know…'' The man shrugged.

''Not the healthiest of the motivations, but one of the strongest indeed… but don't get your hopes too high, kid. People are ignorant and stubborn, no matter the race. It's difficult to change a whole culture's prejudice; especially if you are on the receiving end of it!'' Erwin stated matter-of-factly.

The elf was inclined to agree with him on that…

''I know… but if I can show them that one of the 'tarnished' can strive amongst the best in Orario, then that's enough for me at the end of the day. If I end up helping bring some kind of positive change, that's even better… I won't kill myself to alter their backwards culture. There are better things to fight for… '' Bitterness leaked from his voice at the last part.

….

As the conversation seemed to die down, the elf focused on the sight in front of him. An image he thought he would see for the last time 5 years ago. Piercing the clouds and the blue sky itself, was the immeasurable structure that signaled he was getting close to his destination was illuminated by the rising sun of the early morning.

The tower of Babel.

A smile slowly made its way to his face, remembering the times he awed at the monument when he was a child.

Their trip towards the dungeon city was mostly uneventful. They hadn't met any bandits on the road so far or in the settlements they passed through. The only real danger they faced was the occasional group of kobold or goblins.

As part of their agreement, Luke dealt with them swiftly; even though he didn't have a falna anymore. Zeus had removed it, so he could enter the city without making a scene.

To travel alongside the merchants, the elf had paid a small fee in valis and offered to escort them as well. A fair deal, especially when he got to know the group throughout the trip. They were good folk, working honestly to earn their bread.

And so, after two long weeks of journey, they were finally approaching their mutual destination.

"We'll get there in a couple of hours… What about another one of my stories about when I was a young bloke like yourself!? You see, back in the day I was lucky enough to meet the goddess of love Aphrodite in person! Me and the boys had gone on a trip towards… " The man rambled on, the elf glanced at him in amusement.

Erwin was a good man, a little bit straightforward and extroverted, but a good person nonetheless. He was a great storyteller and conversationalist, a trait that he had learned throughout the long journeys he made. With that he always kept himself and others entertained, brightening the mood around his person. Luke admitted, the man was a nice companion for a long ride.

After some lengthy conversations, the time came where they would split ways as the city's enormous walls came closer and closer. Erwin's leading carriage halted at the tail end of a large line of people, one that ended at the city's gate itself.

"It seems it's not your lucky day, kid… These lines are a pain in the ass on a busy day. Take care nonetheless… Orario is not what it used to be since Zeus and Hera Familias were destroyed 5 years ago. The city is full of crooks and scummy people nowadays , you need to keep your eyes peeled in there… Godspeed kid, catch me later and I'll buy you a drink! " The man waved as his caravan headed towards the carriage row, parallel to the larger one the elf had to face.

Luke waved back before starting the long and excruciating waiting in the queue to enter the city. His only solace were the dark clouds that saved him from waiting in line under a bright morning sun.

After approximately an hour of boredom, Luke's turn at the bureaucracy at the gates came. The security around it seemed pretty tight with the number of guards around it.

"Greetings… Name and intentions in the city?" A bored looking woman inquired, note and pen in hand. She wore a white long sleeved shirt with a gray bow in the shirt's collar, a black vest and matching trousers and gloves. At the sides, a dark blue haired woman with matching eyes, observed his every movement attentively, wielding a spear in her hands.

"Luke Adria. I'm here to settle myself in the city and become an adventurer.'' He stated plainly as the woman scribbled in the book.

"Alright… lift your shirt. I need to check if you have a falna, it's standard procedure— oh, I've never seen an elf with different eye colors before." The Guild employee looked surprised once she focused on his face.

"Yeah, pretty neat I know…" He said dryly as he took off his robe and lifted his shirt, exposing his bare back. As the woman verified him, the imposing blue haired lancer approached them.

"An adventurer, huh… Judging by your physique and the swords in your hip, you aren't the average, naive kid that comes to the dungeon city." She said in a plain voice .

"Quite perceptive, miss…" The woman straightened her posture, a commanding aura surrounded her. "Shakti Varna. Captain of the Ganesha Familia." The tone of her voice carried pride at the position.

"You are not wrong, Miss Varna... One of the reasons I came here is to improve my abilities." She tilted her head slightly.

"You were part of a Familia from outside Orario, weren't you?" He nodded in response.

"Yes, I was… it's quite difficult to level up without delving into the dungeon, you know?" He chuckled, thinking back at his hellish training regime.

"My Familia is looking for new recruits lately. Unfortunately we're undermanned with the current lack of civil order because of the recent Evilus attacks…" Her tone became somber, before she regained her composure.

"If you prove yourself worthy, then we'll welcome you with open arms." Luke nodded before he received the all clear from the Guild woman.

"Okay, everything seems to be in order. If you need help to situate yourself in the city, feel free to come to Guild for assistance. Welcome to Orario, sir.'' Luke gave her a thumbs up, moving to the side to not disturb the row.

''Ill keep your offer in mind. Although I want to scope out my options first, thanks nonetheless… Oh, just a question, what activities your Familia does?'' He said as he put his robe back on.

''Like most Familias in Orario, we also explore the dungeon… Although our main focus is to maintain the people of Orario safe and the criminals in check. We are also known as the best monster tamers in the city, being responsible for the Monsterphilia event held every year." Shakti explained as Luke finished adjusting his Goliath robe on his form.

''I would advise you to tread lightly while wandering the streets. It pains me to say this but they aren't safe, despite our best efforts…'' The regret for the current state of the city was clear on her demeanor.

''Okay, I will. It was a pleasure to meet you, Miss Varna.'' The elf extended his hand to her, much to her surprise. She kept staring at it for a few seconds before shaking her head and accepting the handshake.

''The pleasure was mine, Mr. Adria.''

A sudden loud, girly voice caught their attention.

''Onee-chan, I've already finished my patrol route!'' A young aqua-haired teenager spoke enthusiastically. She seemed to be a couple of years younger than him judging by her looks.

''Ardee, I already told you to not call me that when we are on duty!'' Shakti scolded her younger sister. As the two started to argue, the elf took it as his cue to leave.

'At least I have one promising candidate already.' Luke thought as he pulled his hood up, marching down the main street.

Eeriness. That's the feeling that he felt as he walked again for the streets of Orario after 5 years. The ambience, the face of the few people that still wandered in the streets, how tense and suspicious everyone acted… The city was not the same.

In the past, whenever he would walk around with his parents, Zeus or Hera, or even Alfia and Meteria on the rare occasion; the streets were always crowded and lively with the folk's day by day activities. Now… you could barely see a soul venturing outside the safety of their homes.

The smiles, laughter and jovial conversation, which was a common sight back then, now was replaced with scowls and the feeling of uneasiness. You could see how everyone seemed to walk with eyes behind their backs, fearful of being mugged or worse…

The adventurers tasked with maintaining civil order were spread thin across the city, barely holding any semblance of authority. It was almost everyone for himself in the streets and alleys.

Luke dreaded thinking how bad things were on the poorer sections of Orario, especially Daedalus Street.

Dark clouds shrouded the labyrinth city in despair and disorder, killing and burying it seven feet deep the upbeat and glorious image that the city had across the world.

All this because of a single nefarious group.

Evilus.

A bunch of maniacs led by evil gods that sought the destruction of Orario and the liberation of the dungeon, bringing the hell that the Lower World was in the ancient times. They were lunatics, praising death and suffering.

From what Hera and Zeus had told him, when they were around, Evilus was a laughing stock between the deities of Orario. Their perverse ideals being no more than fever dreams with the two powerhouses in charge. With each of their plans ending in a spectacular failure and their near destruction. Yet, like cockroaches, the ones that weren't wiped out, reorganized and started it all over.

But now…

They weren't in charge anymore.

Loki and Freya Familias weren't worthy of the title of strongest, not with the bar that their predecessors established. They kicked them when they were down and exiled them, and now? The usurpers couldnt handle the trouble that Hera and Zeus would have easily dispatched… They were simply pathetic.

A part of him was content, and saw all of it as karma for how not only Loki and Freya treated them, but the whole city as well.

How they threw them out once they lost everything trying to put an end to the Black Dragon. The great Zeus and Hera Familias that had guarded and helped Orario for millenia. Who made it what it is today.

Delving deeper in the dungeon than anyone could only dream about. Giving information on every new discovery, every efficient method to level up and training development abilities - notorious for their difficulty.

All things that saved countless lives and benefited everyone and set the standard for the subsequent adventurers to follow.

And what did they get in return !? How had they treated their heroes!?

...

...

Luke took a deep breath, calming himself and squashing those dark thoughts that surged in his head.

He was wrong.

Not everyone sought their banishment and humiliation. There were still good people in this city, innocent folk that were just living their lives. Despite what they had done to them in the past, there were still people worth protecting and fighting for.

Something that he was willing to do…

It irked him, how those fanatical cultists were taking vantage of the power vacuum that was created since Hera and Zeus downfall. Taking innocent lives; the peace and the smiles from the people's faces, robbing them of their future and dreams of a better tomorrow. They were free to install their reign of terror and despair in the place he grew up.

Moved by anger and disdain by what the wicked group did to his home city, a new resolve grew in his heart. To put a stop to them and let the people live without the constant fear of death… Even if some of them didn't deserve it.

A new goal was set by himself. One that he would make sure to accomplish.

Because… like Zeus said back then, it was the right thing to do.

On another note. He still needed to find a place to stay. Before he worked towards finding any suitable Familias that aligned with his interests, or even heading into Patheon; the guilds main building. He still had to find a safe place he could return to at night; especially with the city's current lawless period. One that he was certain intensified tenfold in the darkness of the night.

But the question remained… Where could he find that place?

He felt something wet plash on his hood. The elf looked up, and another drop of water hit his forehead.

'Well, just my luck…'

As if in queue, the droplets began to fall more and more as it began to drizzle, signaling the rainfall that was to come.

Each step she took plashed against the wet cobblestone. Gray clouds laid overhead as the downpour fell on Orario. The hood that hung low over her face became damp as she walked aimlessly through the city's streets.

She had left her home forest and traveled all the way here, to the place called ''The Center of The World''. Despite her village being isolationist, separating themselves from the matters of the outside world, the reputation of the Labyrinth City had reached their ears. After an arduous journey with her ignorance of the wider world and its people, Ryuu had managed to enter through the city's large gates.

She had run away. Away from terribly distorted views her family and friends had of other races. They were prideful, fastidious and eschewed even touching those they deemed unworthy or inferior.

For all the supposed beauty her own race had amongst others. Ryuu had felt that, in fact, they were the ugliest of them all. Her doubts only grew throughout her eleven years of life, reaching the point where she couldn't stand to live amongst her own. She felt ashamed, not only for them, but for herself…

That's when she heard about Orario. A place where gods, mortals and spirits all came together and broke the barrier of race. A perfect place to run away from the yoke of the elven name.

That's when, in the cover of the night, she left her forest… Never to return.

She hoped that she could find something unique here. Something she could never have in her village. Ryuu hoped to make friends from other races, meet true comrades she would value for life.

Her hopes were quickly thrown aside… and by her own hand.

No matter how much she despised the elven customs, she was raised with them. She recoiled from whoever approached her. Humans inviting her to join their Familia. Drunken animal people. Prum merchants with lecherous grins. A dwarf adventurer trying to tell a tale of his victories. Whether the intentions were good or not— She brushed them all aside.

Not only that, but the curious gazes was something that she wasn't ready for. The looks of interest, of envy, of lust or even simple curiosity, was something she never experienced in her village. It embarrassed, confused and terrified her youthful mind. All of it because of her attractive elven features.

Orario, known for its beautiful atmosphere; a place of riches, where every race lived in harmony, working towards the common goal of exploring the infamous Dungeon… was nothing like the stories she heard.

The streets that should be crowded with people, barely had a handful of souls wandering throughout the day. Fearful and hostile glares were common as criminals ran rampant in the city. No one seemed to trust anyone, as fights broke out for the most frivolous reasons.

With all of that, her paranoia came to a point where she wore clothing that covered her whole body and face.

The only clear path she had ahead of her was to depend on the people she fled from— her own people. But her shame and pride barred it from her. She hadn't come all this way just to depend on her kind, like she did her entire life.

''I've become quite the laughingstock…'' She mumbled somberly to herself.

She was miserable—A joke… Just a naive young elf who got it way over her head.

As she was caught deep in thought, she didn't pay attention as she was rounding the corner of the street. For her lack of awareness, she bumped head first into someone. Stepping backwards disoriented, she slipped on the wet cobblestone.

''Watch out!'' She felt something grab her hand, stopping her fall and straightening her back up. As she got a hold of what happened, she saw the stranger holding her hand with an apologetic look under his cloaked form.

She reacted on instinct.

The sound of the slap was overshadowed by the current downpour. With the force of her smack, his hood fell on his back, revealing the stranger's face. She forcibly freed her hand from his grasp.

Nothing happened for a few moments. The stranger stood with his head swayed to the side, an angry red mark growing on his cheek. He took a deep breath, releasing it before looking back at her.

''Interesting way to say 'thank you', Miss Elf…'' He spoke in a plain tone. His red and blue eyes looked sharply at her, his onyx hair clung to his face as it became wet in the rainfall. She became aware that her own hood was down, quickly pulling it back up.

Ryuu stood petrified as it downed on her; she just hit another elf. And not any elf, but an accursed one. She had only heard about them from what the elves in her village spoke— of how they were a disgrace to their kind, and a bad omen. She thought she would never get to see one, as they were supposed to be killed after they were born. For her, their existence was only a myth amongst the elven kind.

The other elves of the Ryumilua forest would be disgusted and repulsed by his presence. Yet Ryuu felt curiosity bloom in her as she peered into those red and blue eyes.

She laid there, unresponsive as he stared down at her.

'' Sigh… You're lucky I'm more cool headed than most, otherwise you would be in big trouble… Are you okay?'' His words took her out of her mind.

''That's none of your concern!'' She spit back, unwilling to interact with the person she just lashed out on.

''Of course it is. I just bumped into you, and I'm sorry for it… That's the least any decent person would do, not hit then across the face like you just did!'' She flinched, lowering her hood even lower to hide her face, ashamed.

He was right. It was uncalled for her to do that… But she couldn't help it. She hated how she responded to any contact with hostility. But… she was only an elf after all. No matter how much she ran away, she couldn't forget years of ingrained customs—even if she wanted to. To make things worse, she antagonized someone of her race who was shunned by his own, and probably suffered from their discriminating views on a daily basis.

''Does it really have to be like this? I assume you must hate me for my appearance — like most elves; but… can we not do this, I'm tired of it… Say, why don't we try again?''

Ryuu took a step back as he extended a hand to her. ''I'm Luke Adria and I'm sorry I bumped into you, I should have been more careful.'' He said with a friendly tone and a defusing smile on his face.

She was taken back with the sudden turn of events. The same elf that she attacked after he helped her was willing to let it all be water under the bridge. It was her chance to finally bond with someone from outside her village—even if he was still an elf.

But most importantly… someone that understood and shared the same feelings of distaste she had with elven prejudices.

As she moved her hand slightly to clasp his, she froze.

The same insecurities that pushed everyone away since she entered the Dungeon City, plagued her mind again.

She hesitated, her heart fearful of bonding with someone strange; especially someone she was taught to loathe and frown upon—even if she hated herself for it.

After half a minute of getting soaked in the rain without any response from her, the black haired elf retracted his hand. A hurt expression flashed through his features, before they became blank again as he pulled his hood over his head.

''I see… take care then, Miss Elf.'' She could hear the slight pain in his subdued tone as began to leave.

'Do something!'

Ryuu tried to move, she really did… But her self-doubt and hatred of elves— herself included, rooted her feet on the ground as indecisiveness overtook her.

She cursed herself as the now named Luke, drifted past her, continuing on his path to wherever he was going.

'I really am a joke…'

She shouldn't have left her village after all. The wider world was proving that to her time and time again…

''Pardon me, but is something the matter?'' The elf duo ears perked up at the new voice that addressed them.

Luke stopped on his track and turned towards the voice, at the same time Ryuu did the same.

Their sights were greeted with the image of a beautiful woman. Whatever her age may be, she was clearly at the height of her feminine beauty, her facial features even finer than Ryuus elven ones. She had her long, walnut-brown hair tied back elegantly. Her eyes were indigo blue, like the deep sea. With the long kirtle she wore, the aura around her was of a virtuous noblewoman.

Both felt the faint aura of divinity that emanated from her as well. Making it clear she was a goddess.

The bags she carried, hinted that she was coming back from shopping. With a veil draped over her head to keep off the rain, she smiled softly at both of them.

''A goddess…'' Ryuu muttered, frowning.

With her past encounters, Ryuu had not come to hold deities in high regards. The ones she met since she came to Orario had been frivolous beings, prone to saying inexplicable, maddening things, which had been quite shocking to her. She couldn't imagine ever turning towards them for help…

To Ryuu and her splintering heart, these deities who seemed to live only for their own amusement were deeply irritating beings.

The things shed experienced thus far… Maybe her people had the right idea after all, spurring other races and gods, to live isolated in the forests. The feelings of disillusionment and despair rose in her chest, threatening to overwhelm her.

''I don't mean to be intrusive, but I just saw the argument you two were having… Is everything alright?'' The goddess spoke in a soft, gentle tone that seemed to eveloped Ryuu.

Although she had already decided that she had no more good will to his goddess than she had to any other deity in the city.

''It's none of your concern, and I would prefer it if you minded your own business.''

Ryuu could hear the elf next to her sigh loudly. She saw him shaking his head side to side as she took a glance his way.

''Oh, but it is my concern. It would sadden me if I saw two acquaintances leave each other on bad terms. I would ask myself why I didnt help them solve their problem… or maybe I misjudged the two of you?''

"Not quite right… We don't know each other. We just had a little accident and a misunderstanding, that's all." The black haired elf spoke, trying to clarify the situation.

"I see…But that reaction from her couldn't have come from a little argument, could it?" Even though the goddess spoke calmly, one could see her eyes squint slightly as she probed at him.

"Oh, that… It's more common than you might think, when you touch an unsuspecting elf, that is."

Ryuu clenched her hands upon being reminded of her previous action.

"Is that so…" The deity looked inquisitive between the pair.

Ryuu tuned their voices out, her hearing became muffled as her emotions overflowed her mind.

Couldn't she see that this was all her fault!?

The gods and goddesses in heaven created the mortals in the Lower World. They were the responsibles for the differences between the races.

For creating the vile elven kind, who looked down on every race…

Deep down she knew it was a childish tantrum. A nonsensical logic that her emotional state had created, blinded by rage and hatred. But right now, she didn't care…

"This is all your fault!" Ryuu screamed angrily at the goddess. She raised her voice like she never did before, catching both her kin and the goddess by surprise.

"You gods created the elves! You made all these races that refuse to accept anyone different from them, people who only care about appearance!" She was breathing heavily, her breath visible in the cold, umid air. Both remained silent at her outburst.

She squeezed her eyes tightly in frustration as she made a final demand to the deity.

"Why did you make us like this?" Her voice cracked, carrying all the bottled up pain inside her heart.

The rain intensified, as if it was a consequence of her outcry. Her outburst didn't ease her pain, no… It only hurt her even more.

She was a fool…

Ryuu slumped on herself as tears stained her cheeks. She was losing herself in a spiral of self loathing and despair. Her small body shivered in the rain, as if trying to hold her back from sobbing.

"I guess what you need right now is not the word of any god or goddess, but of a friend and equal."

Ryuu looked up, taking a sharp breath. The same friendly smile of the goddess greeted her.

"Deities, you see, are quite powerless. Even if we could use our power down here… I'm afraid we can't and shouldn't change the way the mortals are.'' She said apologetically, but at the same time, her indigo eyes narrowed tenderly. ''I shall pray that youll find someone wonderful, a person that would brighten your path with their laughter.''

She approached Ryuu and briskly handed her a map, along with some bread and fruit wrapped in cloth.

''If you like, come and visit. Youll be welcomed with open arms.'' And just like that, she walked away.

''Be careful on your way back, goddess… Orario hasn't been the same since the last time I was here.'' Luke spoke as the goddess passed by him. She smiled softly in return.

''I will, you two take care as well.''

The elf duo watched as the unknown deity walked down the street, soon disappearing in a corner. As they stood there, a pregnant silence had fallen between them.

''I don't hate them…'' Luke spoke, breaking the silence and drawing Ryuus attention.

''Elves, deities, all of them… I don't hate them. There's bad people in every race, they dont inherently belong to one or another. I know there are elves that are the worst scum on the face of this world, at the same time there's the purest of souls amongst our race.''

The elfess looked perplexed at him. The rain was slowly letting up, the late morning sun started to show through the cracks in the gray clouds.

''The elven customs are just that, customs. They are part of the culture, not the race per say, I'm the living proof of it. I believe we can change, one day… maybe. But, the way to that is by doing our part, being the example that we can do better… that's what I think at least.''

''Above all, I think we should live our lives to their fullest in spite of what others may think… That's what my parents and family taught me, and I'm grateful for it.''

The rain had stopped, the blues skies were free from their shackles as the dark clouds ceased. The heterochromatic elf removed his hood.

''Don't be so harsh on yourself, otherwise the weight of the world will make you crumble.''

The sunlight basked his form, creating a beautiful silhouette as he extended a hand to her on the ground.

''We are still young, our lives are just starting. Don't be afraid of the world and its people, lift your head and march on.''

Ryuu sensed no lies in his words. He genuinely cared about her distraught state.

Up until now she swept aside anyone that approached her, good intentions or not. However, here he was, lending his hand to her again despite how shed treated him. Her mind battled whether to accept it or not…

However, once she looked at the friendly face of someone that had it worse than her with their races prejudices, she drowned her insecurities and slowly took his hand. He waited patiently, not giving a care that she was hesitant to accept the gesture.

Once she finally clasped his hands in hers, he lifted her off the ground gently.

''Can I have your name, miss…'' He trailed off, waiting for her response.

''Ryuu…Ryuu Lion.''

His smile stretched even further.

''Pleasured to meet you, Miss Lion.''He placed a small bag on her hand as he let it go. From the weight and form of the contents, she knew it was a bag containing coins, valis to be specific.

"I won't take it back. No offense, but you seem to not be in a good financial state…" He eyed her worned down clothing as he said it.

She opened her mouth to protest, while moving her hand to return his Valis.

"It's just a hunch, but…you ran away from your forest didn't you?…"

Her words died on her throat as she froze.

"My parents told me that it is a harrowing experience for any elf to undertake, especially to young ones like we are— even if I can't really relate, as I lived most of my life in Orario." He rubbed the back of his head sheepishly at the last statement.

'So, that's the reason he wasn't killed as an infant…'

"How can you know? You lived besides the others races, you don't know what it's like to live isolated from the rest of the world. Imprisoned in a cage by your people's feel disgusted by your family and friends… To feel like you don't belong there and distance yourself from everyone!" She said bitterly without thinking, letting her emotions get the better of her.

Once she caught up to what she said, she mentally cursed herself and feared that she pushed him away again. Her fears seemed unfounded as he wore a small smile on his face, unfazed by her outburst.

"That may be true… However, I do know how it feels to have your world turned upside down, to feel lost and confused on the path forward. That's something you can only overcome with the help of others, for them to be your pillars through a rough time… That's especially harder on elves that live outside their forests, as their pride only lets them lean on those of their same race." He looked with a sympathetic gaze towards her.

"Or in your case, you'd be left alone… There's not much you can do if you don't trust your own race or any other for that matter. Word of advice; you'll have to break out of your shell if you want to live with the other races and your own. Otherwise, you'll only be met with frustration at the end of the road… It's easier said than done, I know, but that's the way it is. You have to adapt to the world around you and it's people. "

He flashed her a bright smile, as she stood dumbfounded.

"It was nice to meet you, Miss Lion, but I have places to be. Take care in these streets, I see you around!"

Ryuu just watched as he left her to her devices. She kept staring through the path he disappeared. Her mind was heavy with the events that transpired.

The emotional turmoil, the sincere good gestures, the wake up call…

She clutched the map in her hands tightly , pondering about her next steps forward.

.

''The Hostess of Fertility….. does Zeus own this place by any chance?''

Luke muttered to himself as he stood in front of what looked like a mix between a pub and an inn.

It was a two story building made of stone that had the depth of a neat inn. It is located along the Western Main Street. The front entrance has a set of double doors with wood carvings decorating the frame. Carvings can be seen in various places on the front of the pub. The Hostess of Fertility sign can be seen on the left side of the entrance, as well as on an overhanging sign with a crossed fork and knife.

After another almost confrontation because of him trying to ask for guidance, he gave up and tried to find a place on his own. It was by mere luck that he ended up at this place. But was it any good? Well… time to find out.

He stepped inside through the double doors. The elf was met with the sight of various waitresses in a green uniform with an white apron on top, cleaning and setting up tables for the rush of middle day. One of the girls, a brown haired cat person, greeted him once he barely stepped inside.

''Greetings, nya! Welcome to the hostess of fertility, how can I serve you, nya?'' The small cat waitress greeted him energetically. Luke had to take a step back with how close she got to his face.

''H-Hi, Im looking for an inn to allocate myself for the time being.'' The girl smiled brightly at him. ''Youve come to the right place, nya. Come with me!''

The elf did as he was told and followed the energetic employee. The girl led him through the rows of tables being set up, soon stopping at the bar balcony.

''Wait here. I'm going to call Mama Mia, she's going to fill you in on the accommodation of the hostess. Oh, the name's Anya by the way!'' The girl, now known as Anya, shook his hand enthusiastically. Even though he didn't really care about being touched like the other elfs, this girl was overwhelming him with her straightforwardness.

She didn't wait for his response before she stormed her way to what was most likely the kitchen. The elf took the chance to compose himself.

Okay, then…

Luke tapped his fingers on the counter as he waited for the owner to show herself. Now that he thought about it, the name Mia sounded familiar…

His line of thought was broken as a tall woman stepped from the door the waitress had gone through, the same girl coming right after her. The woman stood in front of him from across the counter.

''So you are are the one that wants to rent a room— Wait, what are you doing here kid?'' She questioned, surprised. Luke eyed her closely.

Wait… Mia… that face, that hair…

'' M-Mia Grand!?'' The onyx haired elf stood up, perplexed as the realization came crashing down on him.

''Hahahahaha… the world really is a small place, isn't it?'' She leaned on the balcony as she laughed loudly.

"W-What? H-How? When?... Why Is the Freya Familia Captain owning a pub?... And why are you so tall!?"

'And also more chubby, but he didn't mention it for the sake of his good health…'

He remembers her from the day they were kicked out. She had stopped Ottar from brutalizing him even more after he almost killed him with one single move. The dwarf captain had a shorter stature and a body that was worthy of a follower of a goddess of beauty. A far cry from the tall, imposing woman standing in front of him.

"I'm retired, kid. Those days in the Freya Familia are behind me now." She explained, her booming voice echoing inside the pub.

"Okay, but how then…" He made a gesture with his hand from his midsection to above his head, referring to her height change.

"I have never got your name, kid. I only recognized you for your exotic looks." She pointedly ignored his question.

"Luke Adria… Also, thanks for saving me that day. If you hadn't intervened, Ottar would have probably made mince meat out of me… I owe you one. '' He got back to his seat, an incredulous look on his face at the turn of events.

While he may have a distaste for Freya and her Familia in general for what they have done, that didnt extend to the now retired adventurer. Unlike the rest of those who followed the goddess blindly, Mia had called her out on her actions and saved him that day.

He had seen the disappointed frown that she wore throughout the whole ordeal and the apologetic look in her eyes once her gaze fell on his bloodied form.

''Don't mention it, kid… Ottar isn't a bad man, but sometimes he goes overboard because of his devotion to his goddess. I'm surprised you didnt react badly and stormed out once you recognized me. I figured you would have a beef with me and anyone from Freya Familia…''

''Not exactly… I want nothing to do with them and their goddess, but I won't pick a fight with one of the strongest adventurers in Orario for what happened five years ago. I won't t foolishly paint a target on my back by antagonizing people unnecessarily. Also… you didn't seem to do her binding without question like the others, despite being the Captain—on the contrary you actually stood up against her will and saved my head that day. Why would I hate you after that? If anything, I respect you.'' He spoke honestly.

The look on his eyes showed nothing but gratitude and respect. A small smile crawled his way to Mia's face after his sincere words.

Luke caught something in his peripheral vision. Taking a glance to his side, he saw the cat waitress sitting beside him, her face right next to his. She tilted her head as she looked curiously at him.

''You know that most elves would have hit you already, don't you?'' He deadpanned, still looking straight ahead. The girl didn't seem to care as she kept staring at him.

''Your looks are strange… Are you really an elf?'' His left eye and ear twitched at her nonsense. ''No, I'm just disguised as one— Of course I'm an elf!''

Anya placed a hand to her chin. ''I've never seen an elf with black hair and different eye colors before, nyaaa…''

''What about a better question? Why is an adventurer working as an waitress in a pub?''

The girl perked up at the assumption. ''Nya! You can read minds!?'' She placed both her hands in her forehead, as if to block him from reading her mind.

Luke stared at the girl with a blank face.

''She's not mentally challenged is she?'' He asked her employer, who chuckled in response. ''No, she's just an airhead… and clumsy as well. Trust me, you get used to it.''

The elf sighed. It was only slightly better to be fair.

He was suddenly jerked to the side as the girl grabbed him by the collar of his robe."Nya! How did you know!? What kind of power do you have!? "

The elf kept a stoic face despite being manhandled by the idiotic girl, lifting two fingers.

"First. You are extremely strong, I can feel it in your grip. You could sway me like a ragdoll if you wanted." He lowered one finger.

"Second. Your footsteps don't make any noise. It becomes second nature once you learn it, doesn't it?... With that, my guess is that you are a third or second class adventurer. It's not that complicated really…" He lowered the second finger. Anya's mouth was hanging open in astonishment.

"You got a sharp eye, huh... She's still part of Freya Familia, but she works here in her spare time… She won't get off my back since I left and opened this pub." She looked at her ex-subordinate with sad glint in her eyes as she thought about the girl's troubled relation with her older brother.

''Loyal to the end, I respect that… Wait, now that I thought about it, shouldn't you be working right now. Not trying to be rude, but you could get in trouble with someone.'' Luke pointed out, glancing inquisitively at her boss.

''Don't t worry nya! I already finished my tasks, the rest of the girls can handle the rest.'' Although she claimed that, she looked at Mia for clearance. The woman shook her head, exasperated, but nodded afterwards.

''Ok, now onto business! We have a room for rent, the price is 1200 valis daily with breakfast included. Don't disturb my girls or the clients and be back before we close, else you end up locked outside, got it!?'' She stated with her arms crossed and an imposing aura.

Luke nodded, not even a bit intimidated. It's difficult to be once you get used to face two monstrosities on a daily basis...

''Now, since it's almost time for the midday rush… What would you like to order?'' Luke eyed the menu plastered on the wall. ''I'll get the chicken and vegetable special.''. Mia passed the order ahead to the kitchen, before speaking up again.

''If you don't mind me asking, why did you return to Orario? I hope it's not because of some pitiful grudge or something like that.''

The elf scoffed at the notion. ''It seems they are already paying the price for their greedy desires, with everything that's currently happening in the city… No, I've come here to become a proper adventurer!'' Resolution was clear in his tone.

Mia crossed her arms with a sly smile on her face.

''Got some fire on you, don't ya.… I like that. A word of advice though, the dungeon is an unforgivable place, one small slip and you and your comrades are gone. It will strike when you are at your worst and most vulnerable. The best thing you can do is be prepared for everything that might—no... will certainly will go wrong. Some say the most important trait of an adventurer is luck, and they are right to a certain extent. To me, the harder you work the luckier you get! Those that do it get to live at the end of the day. Take those words to heart, kid.'' Her serious tone spoke of years of experience.

''I will… I've always been taught to learn from those with more experience than me. And who better to follow advices from than an ex-captain of Freya Familia?'' A grin split the woman's face in half.

''That's the spirit! Learn, adapt, overcome. Follow this motto and youll have a bright future ahead of you.'' She said loudly.

The elf grit his teeth as he felt something touching his ear. ''Would you kindly stop grabbing my ear?'' He said, annoyance seeping from his tongue.

''I needed to check if they were the real deal, nya!''

'Is this girl for real!? '

''I know you may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but please, refrain from touching people without their consent. You'll only end up in trouble… especially with elfs— Let go already!''

He jerked his head away as his words seemed to fly over her head.

The waitress kept staring innocently at him, while Mia laughed heartily at her antics. Luke rubbed his temples as he leaned on the balcony.

I may reconsider my stay here…

.

Rose Fannet was bored.

The rush hour of the late evening came to an end as most adventurers had already returned from the dungeon at this hour. Her evening had been filled with reports, magic stone exchanging, advising stubborn adventurers under her care, filling and placing new quests— All the type of paperwork and bureaucracy that kept the Guild running and by consequence the whole city as well.

The Guild was a fundamental pillar on the whole structure that composed the megalopolis that was the Dungeon City, with the main objective of with the monster threat created by the dungeon.

While the adventurers of the Familias that operated in the city ventured into the dungeon, collecting magic stones, drop items from monsters and unique materials. The Guild was the organization who managed those Familias and provided them with services, shouldering the logistics and bureaucracy of the spoils they gathered. They oversighted the trading of the spoils they gathered, paying them a fair amount for it.

They were the backbone of their economy.

Naturally, as the movement around the patheon died down, the werewolf was left with nothing to do until her shift ended— seeing that she already finished the pile of forms on her desk.

To try and occupy her mind, she had decided to read a book. Only stopping to attend to one or two, stray adventurers at this hour or the occasional civilian.

This one being one of those times.

Rose marked the page she was at before closing her book with a thud. She eyed the newcomer that just entered through the entrance doors.

Black hair, red and blue eyes and pointy ears… Now she was curious.

His exotic features apart, what caught her attention was the black robe around his body and the pair of swords he carried on his hip. From what she glimpsed as the middle the robe parted as he walked, he had a dark blue long sleeved shirt underneath it. Black trousers and dark brown shin boots completed his outfit. He looked to be about 5'9 feet (1,75 m) in height, quite tall for an elf that seemed no older than 16.

( For better visualization: Luke wears his Goliath robe, just like Bell wears the Salamander wool, the only difference being that the collar is not so high and it has an added hood. It covers most of his body, while avoiding hindering his movement by not letting it reach its feet, like the cliche robe.)

An adventurer… No, he doesn't have any armor on him, besides she never saw him around here. She was sure she would remember an elf that stuck out like a sore thumb when compared to most of his kin.

"Good evening, how can the guild help you today?" She greeted him with a neutral, professional tone as he stood across from her on the balcony.

"Good evening. I'm looking for information on the Familias that are currently recruiting new members.''

Ah, another one willing to risk everything inside the dungeon…

She pointed to the board in the wall next to the balcony. "You'll find the Familias that are openly seeking new members on that board next to the quests, along with their requirements for one to apply to them."

He nodded, heading towards said board.

Rose pulled out her book again once she saw the elf looking attentively at the multiple posters that framed the wall.

After a few minutes immersed into the book's tale, she was brought back to reality as the same elf placed a paper sheet in front of her.

"Can I have more information on the Astraea Familia?"

She placed the book marker on the current page as she closed it yet again.

''Of course… The guild has information about every Familia in the city that is disclosed to the public—except sensitive information of course…Wait here.''

She went to the back to gather the info on said Familia. A quick search through their archives later and Rose was back with a fairly thick book. It was one of their many copies containing the data on the Familias that operated in Orario in an alphabetical order.

''I need you to fill this form beforehand.'' She handed him said form and grabbed a quill and ink pot from below the counter. It was a simple one, that requested his name and intention with the information, current date and the name of the receptionist offering the service.

He quickly filled it and gave it back to her, where she finished it and started to scroll through the book's pages.

"Let ́s see… Astraea Familia… Here.'' She pinpointed the correct page with her finger.

''It's a fairly recent Familia, having started around 2 years ago… they reside in the southwestern district in their home, Stardust Garden…It currently has ten members, all of level 1… Its a exploration type Familia, although they also act as police force in the city… their captain is an adventurer called Alize Lovell and the head of the Familia is the goddess of justice, Astraea. That about summarizes the information available on them.'' She finished reading the main information, as the elf had listened carefully.

''Yeah, she's the one… Can you mark their home on my map?'' He asked, pulling as scrolled paper from under his robe.

''Sure, I can… huh, strange…I thought they only accepted females.'' She mused as he handed her the map, she picked up the quill in the ink pot he had used and searched for the correct location on the map.

He tapped his index finger on the paper he had grabbed from the board. ''According to this they don't… Unless it was an oversight of their part. It's worth the try either way.''

She gave him his map back, now with the Familias home marked with an X. She gave him a puzzled look as he checked his map.

''I know it's none of my business, but why them?... Most newcomers that aspire to become an adventurer form rows to try and join one of the top tier Familias, such as Loki or Freya. It's rare to see one seeking to join a relatively small Familia without trying them beforehand.''

She normally did not pry into anyone's personal life or the like, focusing only on getting her job done and nothing else, especially with adventurers… After all, almost all her assigned adventurers ended up dead. She'd learned to never get attached to them the hard way…

A small smile formed on his face. ''I've heard good things about their goddess from my old man… Besides, I don't hold the two biggest Familias in high regard.'' A little bit of bitterness leaked from his voice at the mention of Orarios strongest Familias. He pocketed his map inside his robe again.

'Better not pry into sensitive subjects.'

''Okay then, will that be all?'' She asked politely, he nodded. ''Yes, that will do. Thanks for the help, Miss…''

''Rose Fannet.''

The elf smiled brightly at her.

''Thanks for your help Miss Fannet!'' he bowed slightly before turning on his heel, heading towards the entrance.

The werewolf moved to set the data book back on his shelf and archive his filled form, when she heard the entrance doors being opened. A group of elves strolled through the double doors.

'Late adventurers…'

The group sighted the retreating elf. Their formerly plain expressions turned into ones of disgust. They muttered something amongst themselves once they passed by him, she heard them clearly as day from the counter, thanks to her enhanced hearing.

''Filthy scum.''

''Why is he alive?''

''He's lucky he's not in my home forest.''

Her eyes widened once she registered their foul comments. She didnt see the black haired elf's s reaction as his back was turned to her, hiding his current expression. He made no response as he exited the pantheon.

Why was he being scorned by his own kin? Was it because of his appearance?

The elven culture was known for being harsh and inflexible with their customs, looking down on the other races. That also extended within their own, such as with the half-elves who are seen as lesser than pure blooded elves. Maybe his exquisite features were seen as the same or even worse…

She looked at his name on the form.

''Luke Adria …'' she mumbled to herself.

'Maybe there's more to him than it seems… What a strange elf. " She thought, looking at the door he had just left from.

.

The following day

Luke was walking through one of Orarios many narrow streets after leaving the Southwestern Main street, currently on his way towards the Astraea Familia home.

One may find it strange that he would go to an emerging Familia that was still trying to establish themselves, instead of gunning towards the famous one— the likes of Freya, Loki or even Ganesha.

The big two were a no go… Not after what they had done to Zeus and Hera.

Ganesha was a bit more complicated. The elf had visited their home after their captains offer, becoming flabbergasted at the ridiculous name of the place— I am Ganesha.

Not only that, but the entire place was a huge shape of their god!

Their patron god wasn't bad per say, but he could be quite obnoxious in his opinion, as his antics got old fast. He was loud and boisterous, constantly making poses and screaming his name… for some odd reason.

He may seem narcissistic and self centered at first glance, but once Luke got to sit down and have a talk with him, the elf saw that he was quite an honorable individual, who cared about the common folk and his children— he was a strange one for sure, but still a good guy.

The deitys mannerisms didn't extend to his children, at least most he met at and they seemed like a good bunch. The level 4 captain, Shakti, was a good leader and a good example to be followed, and she had almost convinced him to join them.

Her younger sister, Ardee, was quite insistent that he accepted her sister's offer— primarily because she was extremely curious about him and his strange features. She was a good natured and cheerful individual, one that he had fun conversing with.

Yet, he wouldn't join them…

The main reason being their main role as a Familia. They were mainly a police force and also focused on taming monsters, with actual dungeon exploration being the one of the least of their priorities. Their strongest members were level 4s, and would not add enough to help him grow.

That would hinder his goals of becoming stronger and making a name for himself, even if he would help people and could be seen as a hero in the future. But his max potential wouldnt be reached in that case, and that he couldn't allow.

Not if he wanted to finish what his parents had started.

To slay the Black Dragon, and avenge his fallen Familia members.

For more reasons than one he was seeking to apply for the Astraea Familia. First of all, he had heard good things about the head of the Familia, the goddess Astraea, from Zeus. His old deity talked highly of her and even suggested that he should join her Familia— even if some of his reasoning were less than honorable… Really that old geezer couldn't control his libido even if his life depended on it.

Lustfulness aside, the god had talked about her view of justice and how she sought to create a better world based on it and how he had wanted to see her strive on her goals. She seemed like a kind, good hearted goddess that cared about the mortals; and someone he could stand behind— no pun intended…

Ahhh! That old pervert was getting to his head again.

...

Let's move on…

He would also have more flexibility on a small Familia, helping them climb up the ranks and solidify themselves in Orario and even rise amongst the best. Zeus may have some corny ideas about heroism, but on one thing he was right, it was way more gratifying and heroic to go from zero to hero, instead of starting high already and surrounded by strong allies— even if it would be the easier path.

If he would be purely logical, Freya and Loki Familias were his best call to grow faster and reach his true potential. But he would not do that… call him stubborn if you like, but he didn't want to associate himself with those that kicked his familia when they were down.

Besides, he wanted to change this world for the better. And what better way to do this than following the goddess of justice herself and work towards making her familia one of the strongest in the city.

Ganesha was doing his best to help the city, and if Astraea rose in power, fighting this dark times that troubled the dungeon city alongside them. It would only benefit everyone.

''Hey, you're an elf right? We hit the jackpot, Jura!''

''And without the protection of any god, so we don't have to worry with anyone trying to get her back… this'll be a piece of cake!''

Lukes pointy ears caught a pair of ill intentioned voices coming from deeper inside a back alley to his left side. He stopped on his tracks getting close to the wall as he peeked in the dark alley.

The alley itself stood between two blocks of buildings, one on either side, forming a dark corridor in the middle of them.

'A mugging perhaps? ...'

This seemed the ideal place for an ambush, and there was also the fact that he had seen almost no one passing through this street besides himself. If they were criminals, they must have scouted and planned all of it beforehand.

Despite being in the late morning on a cloudless day, with the sun high and mighty on the blue sky, very little light reached the alley itself, making it hard to see as it was overshadowed by the buildings.

Straining his mismatched eyes he focused on the shapes and silhouettes in an attempt to figure out the situation. He could see at least six figures further down in the alley. Three on his side, and the rest on the other, and thus encircling their victim and cutting off any avenue of escape.

''Oi, boss… she's even on the edge between being a brat and a real woman. Well get some good money for her in the Pleasure Quarter… after we have some fun with her of course~''

Luke grit his teeth in anger.

These bastards are slave traders. Criminal scum who preyed on the weak, kidnapping and selling them for the highest bidder…and even going as far as abusing them.

'Disgusting pigs.'

He grabbed a rock from a cracked cobblestone layer at his feet, as he stepped inside the dark alley. If these guys have a blessing, then he would be not only outnumbered but overpowered by them in a fight.

He needed to be smart about this.

.

Ryuu was in a tight spot.

After reflecting on yesterday's encounter with the accursed elf and the compassionate goddess, she had contemplated her offer. Her currency was running low and she couldn't afford her stay in the cheap inn she currently resided in.

While her conflicting emotions, hatred of the world and herself, still remained, they were put in check with the words she had heard the day prior. Making her reflect on herself and on what her heart yearned for.

She ultimately gave in, and headed towards the place that was marked on the map the deity had given to her along with some food.

That was before she was cornered and forced into a back alley by a bunch of beast humans.

She knew this was bound to happen to her sooner or later, with the current lawless state of the Dungeon City, but it angered her no less. Her attractive elven features drew attention to her, whether she liked it or not.

''Oi, boss… she's even on the edge between a brat and a real woman. Well get some good money for her in the Pleasure Quarter…after we have some fun with her of course.~''

Ryuu felt the urge to vomit once she registered those words. The mere thought of such deplorable actions and being defiled to such an extent… it disgusted her to no end.

These animals had planned this beforehand, surrounding her completely. Even if she was an elven warrior, she stood little to no chance if she was against adventurers who possessed a god's blessing.

Still... she would not surrender without a fight and let herself be disgraced.

''Come on boys, let's get her!'' The middle aged cat person that seemed to be their leader, stepped forwards towards the cornered elfess. Ryuu grabbed her short sword she carried for protection from under her robe, ready to defend herself.

''Hey, who are yo— Argh!''

One of his gooms that stood across from him screamed in pain, making the beast man stop. Ryuu also turned towards the sound.

Behind her, one of the three criminals that sealed off her escape was clutching his forehead with his hands. He stood further behind the other two, watching for any bystander that entered the alleyway.

A lone figure approached him rapidly.

The newcomer kicked the man hard on the groin, lifting him a little from the ground with the momentum of the blow. The beast man fell on his knees, clutching his privates as a strangled cry left his mouth. The follow up roundhouse kick to the side of the head silenced the man as his mouth kissed the wall beside him.

Everything came to a halt for a second. The only sounds being made were the gasps and snarls of the crooks, followed by the distinct sound of a sword being drawn off her scabbard.

The stranger approached the other two with a black sword in his left hand.

''You fucker!''

''You'll l regret this!''

The two thugs charged at him screaming, with swords drawn as well. The first one launched a sloppy downwards swing, aiming at the strangers midsection. He nimbly sidestepped the attack, as the man lost his balance with the unpredicted miss. A precise slash at the back of his knees brought him to the ground screaming in pain.

The next one came with a diagonal slash. The robed stranger parried the attack, diverting it to his left side with the blade of his sword, leaving his opponent wide open. The man's momentum was met with a haymaker to the jaw, disorientating him.

Before he could regain his bearings, he was met with a low blow to his intimate parts, falling on his butt in pain.

The stranger lifted his sword high.

The beast man screamed, fearing for his life. His scream was cut short, as the stranger hit the crook's temple with the flat of his blade, knocking him out cold.

The only one that was still conscious on the ground tried to drag himself away from the attacker.

The stranger stepped on his hand.

"I-I'm sorry… Please don't—"

His pleas had fallen on deaf ears as the stranger hit the back of his head with an axe kick, silencing him.

"Amateurs…" The stranger muttered as he kicked the unconscious man to the sidelines, his body rolled until it met the wall.

Ryuu's blue eyes widened once she saw the person that was coming to her aid more clearly.

'It's the same elf from yesterday! '

He stepped closer to her. "Hey, are you okay? … Wait, you!" he exclaimed, surprised as he also seemed to recognize her.

He chuckled in amusement. "... Small world huh?"

"So it seems…" She responded, still processing the whole ordeal.

"Dammit Jura, she was supposed to be a lost brat and not someone affiliated with a strong adventurer. Fuck this shit, I'm out!"

One of the culprits began to panic as the other goons started to step back, ready to flee.

"Yeah, you screwed this up man."

"He's going to kill us, let's go already."

The leader, Jura, bared his teeth. "Shut up you idiots! Look at his hand, it's all fucked up… He's no high level, or any bullshit like that. I think he doesn't even have a falna if he broke his hand punching those morons…"

Ryuu heard the black haired elf click his tongue beside her. She looked at his hand, and saw that the beast man was telling the truth. His knuckles were bleeding, and some of his fingers were more than likely broken—all because of a single punch.

"Ma, Ma… and here I thought I could trick you simple minded fools… heh, it is what it is. Guess the leader needs to have a little bit more brains, don't he? At least now I know you are just a bunch of sloppy, low level 1s." He mocked them as he got beside her.

He glanced her way with a serious look.

[Do you know how to fight?] He spoke to her in elvish, catching her off guard.

'Good thinking.'

They could converse without them understanding a single word. Since they are little, Elves were taught Koine, the common language, alongside their native tongue. In great part because of their isolationist tendencies, very few outside the elven kind knew how to speak elvish. And she was sure that some low-level criminals wouldn't be part of that select group of people.

[I do… I also have a weapon of my own.] She answered back. He nodded.

[Good, we might have to fight our way out… I've moved the bastards behind us to the sides, so we have a clean beeline to the street… Step back slowly and get ready to make a run for it on the count of three.]

She drew her sword as both raised their guards.

"Oi, what the hell are you two speaking!" Jura barked angrily, pointing a sword at them.

"Come on you idiots, we can take them!" He rallied his men as he stepped forward. His comrades looked unsure, but followed nonetheless.

[One.]

The duo started to slowly fallback, trying to get as close to the exit of the alley as possible.

For each step backwards they took, the beast mans took one forward.

[Two.]

They passed through the unconscious bodies on the floor. Jura seemed to pick up on their plan as he dashed forward.

"I won't let you get away, you piece of shit!"

Both elves tensed, getting ready for the upcoming clash.

"Stop right there, criminal scum! Nobody breaks the law on my watch. " A loud female voice ordered from behind them, right on their planned exit route.

Jura stopped mid dash, snarling furiously.

"What is it now!?"

Standing in the back alley entrance was a red headed adventurer in combat gear. Her bright, flaming hair was tied in what the goddesses called a 'ponytail'.

''Jura Halmer, you again!? You got some nerve to pull something like this in broad daylight.'' She seemed to recognize the cat person, as she pointed an accusatory finger at him.

''Alise Lovell…'' Jura spat her name with venom in his tongue. Ryuu saw how the elf beside her seemed to look at the girl in a new light, upon hearing her name.

''You lot came all the way to Orario to become adventurers and seek fortune in the dungeon, but instead end up as small-time crooks. Seriously, you guys should be embarrassed.'' Alise chastised the beast man as she got up to the elf duo.

''S-Shut up, you bitch!'' The man gave her a murderous look, starting to step forwards.

''Oh, are you sure about that?'' The girls green eyes sharpened like blades, she drew her rapier from her waist faster than any of them could see, pointing it directly at the group of criminals.

To make her point clear, the elves also aimed their weapons at them, preparing themselves for a confrontation.

Jura's men gulped, taking a collective back as the odds were stacked against them now. The leaders face twisted into a sneer.

''Tch… One of these days were gonna kill you, be certain of that you whore— Let's get the hell out of here!'' He spat before he scattered with his remaining culprits towards the other end of the alley, some even managed to stumble on their fallen comrades as they left them to their fates, not even bothering to try and save them.

''I swear, people like him never learn… Are you two okay?'' She asked them, sheathing her sword. The duo looked at her again as they put away their weapons as well.

She was beautiful, even by the elven standards. Ryuu had not spoken a word with her, yet she could sense her bright spirit and straightforward personality already.

The girl had roughly the same age as Ryuu, who was fairly mature for an elf her age. Considering the fact that this girl was a human, she was a year or two older than the elfess.

''For the most part…'' Luke said, lifting his injured hand. Ryuu winced once she saw him nonchalantly set two of his broken fingers straight. He didn't seem to care about the pain, stretching and closing his fingers to see if his rough healing method had worked.

''Thats a bit too brutal for my taste, here let me see it.'' Alise grabbed his hand gently, and pulled a vial from the leather pouch she carried on her belt. She poured some of the liquid on top of his wound, and after a moment it was good as new.

He flexed his hand again, and nodded in satisfaction. '' Thanks.''

Alise smiled brightly at him.

''Don't mention it…Oh, I haven't introduced myself yet! I'm Alise Lovell. I'm a beautiful adventurer who has plans to become a level 2 very soon!'' She puffed her chest out and straightened herself as she proclaimed proudly.

Luke snickered, while Ryuus eyes widened at the introduction.

''Wh-What? It's true, I say! I'll have you know that im the object of quite a few rookies envious gazes!'' Alise added hastily.

Ryuu blinked, turning to the elf beside her.

''Thank you very much for saving me. You have my gratitude for yesterday and today events.'' She bowed respectfully, as the black haired elf scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

''Lift you head please...There's no need for that, really…''

''No, i'm indebted to you and will repay you wholeheartedly.'' She wouldn't back down from this. Not after how he helped her… in more ways than one.

He looked pensive at her for a moment, when suddenly, he snapped his fingers. ''How about this, you take that hood and mask off and then well be even. What do you say?''

'Just that?' '

She found his request to be a little odd. Ryuu wasn't comfortable exposing herself in public, especially with the human girl next to them. But if that's only what he was asking in return, her pride as an elf compelled her to oblige.

She lowered her hood letting it hang on her back, while setting the mask that hid the lower part of her face, on her neck. Her long blond hair that reached the lower of her back was freed, as her beautiful elven features were open in display. Ryuus deep blue eyes, reminiscent of the skies, looked expectantly at the elf in front of her.

A small smile made his way to his face, he closed his mismatched eyes as he tilted his head.

''See, you are way more pretty that way.''

Ryuu blushed at the sincere comment, even the tip of her ears had become flustered. She turned to the side to hide her embarrassment, being met with the human girl, Alise, looking curiously at her.

After a few awkward seconds, the redhead changed her demeanor, seemingly hoping for something as she stood straighter.

Ryuu turned back towards the boy, her flustering now under control.

''Thank you again, for everything. But I must go now, I hope to meet you again in… more ideal conditions.'' She said her goodbyes, heading on her own way.

Ryuu passed through the expectant girl, not even batting an eye to her.

The girl turned indignantly at her.

''Hey, are you really going to walk away without so much as a word to me? I'm not saying I want a reward or anything like that, but completely ignoring me is a little rude, don't you think?''

The elfess glared at her.

''If you saved me for your self-satisfaction and to boast about yourself, then you don't deserve anything in return.'' Ryuu stated coldly.

Alise looked at her with a strange face, tilting her head. While the heterochromatic elf facepalmed next to her.

'' Clueless girl…'' Ryuu heard him mutter under his breath as he dragged his hand across his face.

She would normally never say something like this, but her heart wasn't in the right place since she came to Orario… even if Luke and the goddess shed some light on the matter. She opened herself a bit to him, and was willing to do so with the deity, but that didnt mean she would do it with anyone she met.

Deep down she just feared lashing out at the girl that helped her, driving her away. Ryuu knew she still had a long way to go until she felt comfortable around the city's common folk, and not only with her own race.

A silence stretched for some awkward seconds, before the human girl smacked her first in her open palm.

''I got it, you are just pigheaded.''

Luke could be heard sputtering, trying to contain his laughter at the unexpected, blunt rebuttal.

Blood rose to Ryuus head, as humiliation and anger clouded her judgment. Her eyes sharpened as she glared at the girl.

''Are you calling me that because i'm a elf?''

...

''Huh?'' The girl made a confused face, while the black haired elf shook his head behind her. This only inflamed Ryuu even further.

''Well—I wasn't born an elf because i wanted to be one, okay?''

Her emotions had gotten the better of her again. She let her normally controlled manner of speech slip and expressed her emotions with words that were far more typical for an eleven years old.

Her breath was heavy as two girls initiated a glaring contest betwen them. between them. Luke eyed the whole ordeal with annoyance.

[You are too headstrong you know… ] He spoke in elvish, drawing their attention and breaking the staredown.

Ryuu looked puzzled at him as he wore a slightly frustrated expression. Before she could delve in the meaning behind his words, Alise made a satisfied "Ha!".

The girl sniffed ostentatiously. "I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, you really are clueless!"

She turned towards the male elf. "I also didn't understand a single word you just said right now."

He waved his hand dismissively, not elaborating on the matter. Alise turned back towards the enraged elf, placing her hands on her hips.

''Not even one word of what I just said had anything to do with you being an elf. Not a—single-–word!" She continues, loudly and briskly. "If you are pigheaded, obstinate and stubborn as a mule, then that's just your personality, right? So don't make it a matter of race!"

The girl closed in on the stunned elf, thrusting her index finger directly at her face

''There are dwarfs that are refined gentlemen and elves who are despicable thugs! Race has nothing to do with it! I'm gonna be honest, you are being a pretty lousy person with this attitude! ''

Those words hit her like a slap to the face. Bringing light to the problem she had since she fled her village, and making her previous anger turn to shame. She'd been lashing out at the world beyond her forest and putting the blame of everything on her race and the others as well… even the gods themselves.

Luke gave her a knowing look as he approached them. ''It's just like I told you the day before. No one is inherently defined by the race they are born in, but by their own personality and character. In short, it all boils down to personal experiences, how they are raised and where.''

''Pardon me, miss…'' He grabbed Alises hand, and lifted their clasped hands for effect. The girl looked confused, but didn't protest.

''See, I don't feel any repulsion or anything like that by touching somebody of another race—unlike most conservative elves. If it was ingrained into our race to abhor physical contact with folk from the others, then I wouldn't be doing this, would I?'' He parted hands with the human as he finished.

Ryuu listened to their sincere words, giving light to the mistakes that she had committed. They were right, ones race had nothing to do with anything. Not only was the elf in front of her a living proof of this, but she herself was one.

Even if she was born and raised inside an elven forest, living daily with their prejudice against other races, she still despised their views. Ryuu wasn't simply an elf, she was her own person. Otherwise she would have adhered to their views without question.

There was a long silence between them as the elfess reflected on herself.

''You are right…absolutely right.'' She finally murmured. ''I'm a coward, blaming everything that doesn't go my way on race. I-Im just… just a child…'' Her eyes fell to the cobblestone below her feet, avoiding looking at them in shame.

''Oh, so you can admit when you're wrong. Most people either turn red and lose their temper or just never accept it. Youre… pigheaded, sure, but at least you are reasonable. No, not only that… you're honest.'' Alise said, her anger at Ryuus outburst completely vanished.

''I like people like that.'' She smiled brightly. Ryuu looked at that carefree smile with wide eyes. Her red hair caught the few light rays of the clear blue sky overhead that illuminated the secluded alley.

Ryuu had never met anyone as optimistic and straightforward as this human girl. ''Anyway, you conceded to my righteousness! Ha-ha! Way to go, me!''... She apparently had a tendency of being a bit over the top.

She looked at the girls green eyes, and spoke with all sincerity she could muster. ''Thank you very much for saving us. You have our gratitude.''

Alise grinned in return. ''There you go… But I can see in your face that there's still something troubling you. What happened? I'm happy to listen if you want.''

''I'm also all ears, but… Smack… shouldn't we do something about these thugs?''

Luke inquired. His boot was on the face of one of the criminals that had woken up and was trying to sneakily crawl away from them. While the girls talked, he'd kept an eye on those low-lifes in case they tried anything.

''Oh, you are right. I almost forgot about them, my bad!'' Alise knocked a fist against her head, sticking out her tongue playfully.

They tied up the three slavers and handed them to the nearest security post. Now they were the responsibility of the guild officials and would be charged for their crimes accordingly by them.

Afterwards, the trio sat near a decorative fountain that sprayed arcs of water. There, Ryuu opened herself truly for the first time. The thought of doing so to a human and a tarnished elf would have never passed through her head.

She spoke about her doubts on her family and friends beliefs, her anguish of living disgusted by them and herself. The night she ran away, her journey to Orario and how overwhelmed she felt with the wider world outside her forest. How she pushed away anyone that approached her, even if she didn't want to. How she struggled with the culture and custom that were ingrained into her throughout her life and sought true companionship in her journey to Orario.

Ryuu told them everything.

It was a strange feeling, to open her heart to two people she barely knew. Ryuu didnt know how to describe the sensation it gave her… Relief, perhaps… she didnt know.

The duo listened attentively as she told them about the demons that ravaged her mind.

''Hmm… I've heard of these elven customs, but I suppose they can be quite serious for some people.'' Alise mused with a hand on her chin in thought.

Luke scoffed, sitting beside her in the fountain edge.

''You bet… My parents had to flee their home forest for my sake. The most hardline elves believe that an elf with dark hair and mismatched eyes are 'cursed' and a bad omen that will bring destruction wherever he'd go. Because of that superstition, they kill any newborn with those traits… Thats why it's rare to find one like me.''

Alise gasped in horror, looking at him with wide eyes. Ryuu looked down at the ground, ashamed at her people's beliefs.

''That's horrible! How can they do something so barbaric!?'' The redhead asked in indignation. The elf shrugged in response.

"I'm not sure. It probably has to do with some catastrophe that happened in elven history or something like that. That's the only reasonable explanation I found for such a thing… but that's life, I guess. There's not much I can do about it, so I try to live my life the way I want— even if some may hate me for it.''

The mood became sour, as they reflected on the heavy subject a silence fell between them.

''Sorry for bringing up such a topic… Anyway, I think the best solution to her problem is simply getting used to living amongst the other races and their mannerisms. It's not easy for someone that lived secluded most of her life, but only practice makes perfect.'' Luke got back to the original point.

Alise perked up, wiping the frown from her face.

''In that case, she just needs to practice! So that when someone takes her hand, she doesn't pull it away!''

"W-What!?" Ryuu was stunned with how casually Alise proposed shed overcome something that has been with her since she was little.

To her, it sounded the same as throwing someone in a river to teach them how to swim and lose their fear of the water.

''Wanna start right now? Here give me your hand!'' The girl leaned closer to her.

''W-Wait a moment! I-I'm not—''

''Don't worry, I'm almost a third-tier adventurer, soon enough I'll get there. No matter how much you hit me, it won't even sting. Here see!''

Alise tried to take Ryuus hand, and even though she tried her best not to reject her, the elfess still leaned away. However, the adventurer was faster than her and easily caught Ryuus hand, squeezing it tightly.

Ryuu had frozen. Their fingers interlaced, as their hands remained connected. She felt the warmth of the other girls palm on her own. For the first time, she held the hand of someone that wasnt of her own kind… yet, she didn't feel repulsed by it.

''Oh, you are totally fine… I almost feel let down.''

''N-No, thats not—'' Ryuus sky-blue eyes were fixated on their clasped hands. She couldn't comprehend what was happening. As she broke into a blushing mess, Alise grinned from ear to ear.

''Hey, you want to join my familia?'' The girl said, still holding her hand. To top it all, the sudden offer confused Ryuu even more. She held her mouth agape, still trying to process it all.

''The thing is, I like you. You might be a little bit too serious, but you are someone that can admit it when you are wrong. And the most important thing, you can't stand when there's something wrong happening, dont you? That's what I caught with your hatred of your people's views on others. I'm the same way!''

''B-But, Im…''

''I won't force you, dont worry! Just come and have a look, it won't hurt, would it?'' Alise stood from the fountain edge, pulling Ryuu along with her. Ryuu couldnt have freed her hand if she wanted to. Not because Alise was stronger than her, but for the pleasant sensation she felt as they clasped hands.

''You too! Why don't you come with us? You don't have a familia do you?'' She pointed at Luke, who still remained sitting at the fountain. ''The way you jumped those thugs to save her was admirable, and you seem to be a nice fella!''

He chuckled in response, standing up.

''To be honest, I was heading towards your home with that intention in mind…Astraea's Captain!''

''What? Really!?'' Alise asked, surprised at the turn of events. Even Ryuu was perplexed by the coincidence.

''Yep. I've heard good things about Lady Astraea, and also saw your recruiting poster at the guild and decided to give it a try… although some have said that you only accepted females on the familia.''

"That 's nonsense! Lady Astraea is the goddess of justice and purity, she doesn't discriminate between genders. She values good actions and morals above anything else! The thing is, we haven't found a man that filled her justice criteria yet. Many want to become adventurers for selfish reasons, such as fame or wealth… some are even just a bunch of womanizers trying to get under a lady's skirt!''

Ryuu blushed at the bluntness of her comment, while Luke dragged a hand across his face in exasperation. He mumbled something about an 'old pervert' and 'every man was like him'.

''You are the first prominent male candidate we have, lucky you! Unless you are an degenerate in disguise, you should be fine.''

''No need to worry about that, my intentions are pure… Besides, I have already dealt with enough perverts already in my life, to the point of despising that kind of thing. Furthermore, I see that Orario needs Astraea's views nowadays more than anything else…'' His tone became somber as he looked around the empty plaza.

''You are right, we are doing our best for the citys good, but we are going to need all the help we can get… Okay then, we can talk more when we get there, shall we go?'' She started to drag Ryuu along with her, until she stopped suddenly.

''Oh, by the way, I never actually got your names!''

''Luke Adria, it's a pleasure.'' The elf introduced himself briefly. The girl then looked expectantly towards Ryuu.

''Lion… Ryuu Lion.''

''Your names Ryuu?... It's kinda hard to pronounce, so… Ill call you Lion then!'' A strange warmth surged through Ryuus chest upon hearing the familiarity with the girl called her name.

''Come with me, I'll introduce you two to the rest of my familia!'' Alise dragged Ryuu by the hand, as Luke trailed right behind them.

She was a little afraid of rejecting them, but the warmth of Alises hand calmed her mind… at least for the time being.

''This path feels familiar…'' Luke heard Ryuu muse to herself beside him. He looked at the girl with a hint of worry.

He felt the urge to regurgitate at the thought of him not being there on time and what those scum would have done to her.

He held back while fighting those bastards, the idea of killing didn't sit well with him. But if things had gotten complicated he wouldn't hesitate to put those animals down to save her— especially considering his disadvantage in a fight against those with a god's blessing.

He was lucky those guys were a bunch of low-lifes that barely knew how to properly swing a sword. Otherwise, he would have little chance against multiple low level 1s, even with his experience in combat.

If you are outmatched in a fight, aiming for the crotch is an excellent way to victory— that being against males of course.

While he was taught the meaning of a battle, the honor of a duel and the thrill of it. Zald and Alfia ingrained into him that in a battle for survival where he was overpowered, he should do everything to come on top at the end—even using dirt tricks and low blows. Being honorable and fair meant nothing if he was seven feet under the ground.

'Honor is a privilege of the strong.' was the phrase Zald taught him.

He looked at the redheaded adventurer that guided them— and his possible future captain. He could hardly believe that she found him first when he was looking forward to meeting her, and saved him from a pinch to boost!

Alise was a straightforward and blunt girl, being honest and upbeat to whoever she interacted with. Although, she sometimes tended to exaggerate her words, boosting about herself or breaking a nice moment .

She also had a strong sense of justice. As a mere high level 1, she worked hard to fight against the current disorder that ran rampant in Orario. And from the looks of it, her whole familia shared the same sentiment.

That only reassured him that hed made the right choice.

''Here we are! I present to you, The Stardust Garden, home of the Astraea Familia!'' Alise opened her arms wide, after they stopped at the gates of a large house.

It was a simple, but well kept, two story building with multiple windows in display. The ground in the terrain around the building was covered by grass, with a beautiful garden decorating the front. A cobblestone wall with spikes delimited the area that was the Astraea Familia home.

''We have plans to reform and expand it in the future, but it's a cozy place and our sweet home. Come on, let's get inside!''

The elf couple followed Alise as she opened the gate and headed towards the building's entrance.

Upon entering the home proper, the inside matched the outside looks. Stone walls and wooden ceiling; the floor was covered in ceramic, giving a nice regal look to it. The furniture was modest and simplest, yet it had a nice charm to it.

All in all, it was a nice place. The place one would call home and come back from a hard day of work and rest alongside his companions and friends.

To him the place didn't matter, a luxurious mansion or an old shack, it meant nothing. What really mattered was people beside him.

Leaving the entryway, they headed towards a hallway, arriving at a spacious room. From the looks of it, this was probably their parlor, judging by the various tables and couches throughout the place currently occupied by what was most likely members of the familia.

''Lady Astraea, I'm home!'' Alise announced, gaining the attention of everyone in the room. A certain indigo-eyed goddess, who was serenely attending her sewing on a couch, greeted her back.

Luke mismatched eyes widened in recognition.

''Welcome home, Alise. Why did you come back so…. Oh my…that's.'' Her eyes landed on the two newcomers besides her captain, her lips curled up in a small smile.

''So, you were Lady Astraea… The world really is a small place.'' He chuckled at the irony of it all. The same deity he wanted to pledge his loyalty to was the same kind goddess he'd met on the day before.

He looked to the side and saw Ryuu stiff as a plank, giving the goddess a deep apologetic bow.

' I guess she wasn't expecting it either.'

'' I want to apologize. The way I treated you that day was unjustified and I regret every word I said!'' Ryuu hastily made her apology, her bow was at a perfect 90 angle.

"It's alright, there's nothing to be forgiven. I'm glad you accepted my invitation.'' The goddess said in her soft, angelic voice.

''Captain, who are these two elves you brought?'' A pink haired female pallum inquired as she approached them.

''Jeez, dont tell me you brought another of your strays to our home and a even a man?'' A black haired human girl in a kimono said in a condescending tone, standing beside the pallum.

'Oh, sassy are we. Two can play this game miss.'

''Why hello there! Judging by your outfit you are the stray from the Far East, I suppose? Nice to meet you.'' He teased with an upbeat tone.

''Lousy one I see… But you better watch your tongue elf or else you'll may end up losing it somewhere.'' She said in a calm voice, yet with a clear threat underneath it..

''Why don't t you watch it for me, dear?'' Luke leaned towards her, sticking his tongue out.

Ryuu looked shocked at the exchange of words, while Alise and the pallum laughed at the turn of tables.

If looks could kill, Luke would be drowning in his own blood on the ground with the glare the kimono girl was sending his way.

''It seems you found someone that can take your sharp tongue head on, Kaguya!'' The pink haired said after getting her giggles under control.

''It serves you right though! You need to fix your habit of speaking to someone you just met like that, Kaguya. These two are proper candidates to join our ranks, so show some respect!'' Alise chastised, dragging said candidates towards the middle of the room where the other girls currently sat in the various couches.

They seemed to be really diverse, having members from various races. He could see three human girls, a dwarf, one werewolf and a amazon and, surprisingly, another elf— who by the looks of it was younger than him and Ryuu. She gave him a wide eyed stare.

'I wonder why…'

''Lion, Luke— meet the rest of the Astraea Familia! Like you already know, Im the captain and the girl that tried to annoy you two is the vice-captain, Kaguya!''

The other members gave them a round of brief introductions and greetings.

''Besides the usual dungeon activities, we also work together to keep the peace in Orario.'' Alise continued, after the short exchange.

''Keep the peace?... I thought that was the Guilds job…'' Ryuu asked, still naive about the relation between the guild and the familias..

''We work in conjunction with the guild and other familias towards that same goal. But above all, we operate according to our own sense of justice!''

''Justice?'' Ryuu said uncertain.

Alise nodded resolutely. ''That's right. In the name of Lady Astraea, Goddess of Justice and Order, we right the wrongs of the world! We erase all the evil doings and the unjust! Our justice comes from Lady Astraea and our own ideals. As long as she is with us, we will never lose sight of what's right!'' She proclaimed proud and loud.

Luke grinned at the resolution and sheer devotion in her voice. If they held the goddesss noble and just view in such high regards, then he had made the right choice after all.

He looked towards their patron deity, who eyed her children with kind and caring eyes. With everything he saw of her, in addition to what Zeus told him, she certainly was a goddess he would wholeheartedly pledge his loyalty to.

''Of course, sometimes our idea of justice clashes with someone elses view of justice. People have all sorts of ideas, after all! Everyone has their own idea of what true justice is, who might as well go against somebody else's idea. Yet, neither would be inherently wrong. Conflict was inevitable and necessary in pursuit of justice!'' She explained their stand on the idealistic view of what was justice.

She's right. There's probably as many views on justice as there's people in this world. Each with their own peculiarities and nuances. What would one call true justice? That's a question that most people had their particular answer to, with a definitive and clear truth being practically impossible to achieve.

''But there's nothing just about the kind of people running around Orario right now!'' She added emphatically.

''You two have seen it first hand the way things are out there in the streets. Tell me, are people smiling?''

''Everyone is terrified… Its stagnant, like a choked river.'' Ryuu said, a frown evident on her features.

''Orario resembles nothing like the one I last saw five years ago…'' Luke said in a dark tone, remembering the scuffle with the slavers and how the city had taken a dark turn towards chaos and disorder.

''Exactly! Orario is in serious trouble right now. In the five years since Zeus and Hera Familias failed to defeat the Black Dragon, evil has been running rampant in the streets! Evilus and their cultist terrorize the city daily, never letting the people have a shed of peace.''

The black haired elf clenched his fist upon mention of the beast that killed his parents and caused their familias to be banished.

''Loki and Freya Familias are doing their best to fight this threat. Even Ganesha and his crescent familia are stepping up to help… but it's not enough. We have to rise up and put an end to this era of darkness!''

Alise stated, flailing her arms wildly. She was dead serious on the part of personally ending the reign of chaos in the city.

''People see Orario as the 'center of the world', so if things are bad here, that's bound to spread around. We can't have chaos here! What the Labyrinth City needs is proper order and way more smiles.''

Her emerald eyes shone with passion and conviction as she reached the peak of her speech.

''For that, we need more comrades. Like minded companions that share the same ambitions.'' She finished with a grin.

The other members of the Astraea Familia and the goddess herself, eyed the elf duo expectantly.

''Well, that's why I came here, after all. I would be honored to join your pursuit of justice!'' Luke spoke first, stepping up towards the captain and extending his hand. A genuine smile plastered on his face.

Astraea had a content smile on her face, as she sensed nothing but truthfulness in his words.

''Awesome! Welcome aboard, Luke.'' Alise clasped his hand in a firm handshake.

Now all the eyes settled on the blonde elf, who held a excitant demeanor.

''Could… Could I really aid your justice?''

The redhead captain broke into a grin. ''Of course! Welcome, Lion!''

The parlor broke into cheers for their newest members, while the goddess smiled benevolently at the celebration.

''Thank you both for joining our familia, we are happy to have you by our side.'' Astraea spoke with her soothing, angelical tone.

"No, I should be thanking you, Lady Astraea and Alise as well. I was lost and had nowhere to turn, but you led me here…" Ryuu sky blue eyes gained a hopeful glint as she looked at her Familia members.

'Looks like she finally found the companionship she yearned for when she left her forest.'

Luke's lip curled up into a small seeing the girl that seemed so desperate and lonely just a day ago, now barely containing her happiness for finding what she sought for so long.

As the commotion died down, Ryuu headed with their new goddess to a separate room to receive her blessing.

The problem was that he was now the sole focus of his new companions.

''Why dont you guys introduce yourselves properly until Lady Astraea and Ryuu are done?'' Alise proposed, prompting Luke to step up. He obliged her.

''I'm Luke Adria, Its a pleasure to meet you ladies.'' He introduced himself, bowing slightly.

''Oh, polite and eye-candy, thats a nice combo. I'm Lyra by the way.'' The pallum girl said with a sly smile, standing next to the kimono girl.

''Gojouno Kaguya, pleased to meet you.'' She had a friendly smile on her face as her condescending tone from before disappeared.

'Fake.'

That's what it looked like to him. He can already see that this would be a fun teasing experience with her mood swings.

One by one, the girls presented themselves to their new familia member, giving Luke a better glimpse of their personas.

The tan werewolf girl, Neze, was the oldest amongst them, being sixteen years old.

Asta was a dwarf that by the way she spoke and held herself, most likely came from a noble family.

Noin and Ryana were amicable and didn't have anything that really stood out, not that it was necessarily bad. Meanwhile, the girl that introduced herself as Maryuu, notedly had a caring attitude and a gentle personality.

Iska Bra, was the sole amazoness in the familia, and judging by her comments on his outfit and looks, seemed to hold quite an interest in fashion.

And lastly came the other elf in the familia besides him and Ryuu.

''Hi, Im Celty Srowa!—From what forest you came from? How did you survive? Do you feel anything peculiar in your body from being a—'' She stopped her own tirade, placing both her hands on top of her mouth. The girl blushed as her curiosity had gotten the better of her.

"I-I'm sorry, I got the bad habit of taking it too far when something spikes my craving for knowing new things… You probably won't be comfortable talking about something like that with somebody you just met… "

Luke scratched his cheek as he tried to laugh it off awkwardly.

''It's okay, I don't really mind it… My parents told me I was born in the Hildir Forest, but I don't have any record of it. They had to leave once I was born—for reasons I assume you are aware of… and no, there's no difference between me and the rum of the mill elf as far as I know—besides the appearance of course."

An awkward silence ended the conversation.

The rest of the Familia looked confused and intrigued by the strange interaction, not understanding the racial subject. The only exception being Alise, who was enlightened on Luke's situation with his kind.

"Well, that just happened… What are you two talking about anyway?" Lyra questioned, looking between the elves.

Before any of them could answer her, the door to the room that Astraea and Ryuu were in opened, with the two stepping out in sequence.

"Lets discuss that another time…'' Luke dropped the subject, heading towards the goddess that awaited patiently for him at the door.

''Don't try anything funny, rookie.''

'Ah, there it is! The patronizing far eastern.'

The elf pivoted on his heel, facing the kimono wearing adventurer.

''No worries, I won't… darling.'' He stuck his tongue out, closing his eyes and giving her an eye-smile. He didn't wait for her response, turning his back and entering the room where Astraea would give him her blessing.

The only thing he heard was Lyra's cackling at new shenanigans that would probably become a daily occurrence.

Closing the door behind him, he saw the goddess sitting at the bedside.

''Are you sure about letting a male join your familia? I heard you are the goddess of purity as well, and you have only female members until now…'' He trailed off, seeing the gentle and serene smile on Astraea's lips.

''Indeed… I may preside over purity, but Im above all, a goddess of justice. Furthermore, I value the individual and their noble hearts, the morals and values they uphold. If one pursues justice with pure intentions, I will welcome him with open arms into my familia, no matter the race or gender. Besides, purity isn't exclusive to one gender… even if many male adventurers have…less than noble ambitions.''

An image of Zeus smiling lustfully came to his mind.

'Seems about right... '

''Shall we start then… I need to see your naked back so I can give you my blessing.''

Luke removed his robe. Before he took his shirt off, he looked at the goddess with a thoughtful expression.

Should I tell her about my connection to Zeus?...

Perhaps she would reject him in fear of his person bringing unnecessary trouble to her familia. Yet, she showed herself to be a comprehensible and caring deity…

'Better come off clean anyways…'

Hiding this fact would only cause more headaches and confusion in the future.

''I need to tell you something, Lady Astraea… I was once a member of Zeus Familia. I'll understand if this is a problem for your familia… ''

To his surprise, the goddess didn't react the way he expected. Instead of being shocked or troubled by the revelation, she stood up excitedly instead.

''Really? Ah, how is the old man doing? It's been so long when I last saw him.''

The elf was taken back with the sudden change of demeanor from the goddess.

''H-He's doing well… We were living in a village far away from Orario since he was exiled.'' Astraea smiled warmly upon hearing about the god.

''I'm glad to hear it. He was the one that inspired me to start my own familia… I don't see any problem with you having been a child of his. There was no official banishment by the guild, and you won't be part of his familia anymore. You wouldn't give us trouble in the slightest.''

He sighed in relief as she relinquished his worries.

He removed his shirt and sat on a chair, exposing his defined back to the deity. Using a needle, Astraea started the process of giving him a falna without saying a word. With a single drop of divine blood, and a burst of brilliant light, the wings and sword of justice were engraved on his back.

Luke Adria was officially a member of the Astraea Familia.

The goddesss indigo eyes widened when she analyzed his status and level.

''Level 3… and these skills…I'm flattered you chose us instead of a stronger familia.'' Luke got up and put his shirt back on, placing his robe on his shoulder instead of wearing it.

''Your ideals are noble and pure, Lady Astraea. Contrary to most frivolous gods who only seek their entertainment and amusement, you care about your children and us, mortals… I'm honored to be your follower from now on!''

Astraea's smile couldn't stretch any further, sensing no lies in his speech. The two left the room after the deed was done.

The elf chuckled once his eyes laid on the blonde elfess who was currently the newest victim of their energetic companions. She flinched whenever one of the girls patted her shoulder, yet she didn't lash out like she would have done.

Ryuus already set in the right direction to overcome her inner conflict.

He thought empathetically, as his captain noticed him and the goddess.

''All right, now it's time for the welcome ceremony! Everybody gather round!'' All the members did as told and approached the center of the room. The girls placed their hands on top of one another in a circle, with Luke and Ryuu following as well— although the latter excited for a second.

''We are the Astraea Familia. We serve Lady Astraea, Goddess of Justice and Order. We swear to bring peace to Orario! By the wings and blade of justice!''

''By the wings and blade of justice!''

Alise proclaimed the familia oath, the girls chorused, following her lead. All the eyes now laid expectantly on the newest members. A grin was plastered on the onyx haired elf face, while Ryuu smiled as her sky-blue eyes shone.

''By the wings and blade of justice!''

Everyone broke into cheers as they lifted their hand up in the air, Astraea watched the scene with a serene smile.

'' I presume our familia will rank up once a level 3 is registered as a new member…'' The goddess mused out loud with a finger to her cheek.

Neze's sharp werewolf ears caught her words as her jaw fell.

''Level 3!?''

Astraea perked up at the girls outburst, as did everyone else.

"I forgot to say, but Luke is a level 3. His addition will most likely boost the rank of our familia in the guild.'' The goddess explained.

As one, all the heads turned towards the heterochromatic elf. He had the reflex to take a step back, before he was swarmed by his new teammates who bombarded him with all kinds of questions.

Ryuu stayed at the back, confused at the turn of events, while Astraea giggled at the jolly ambience her children always ended up creating.

AN: Hello again! Sorry for the delay, life can get hectic sometimes… In compensation, this is the longest chapter yet, with more than 22k words.

I would like to talk with you about a few things in this Fic.

First one: There were a couple of reasons I came to the decision of making Zald and Alfia join Erebus in his crusade against Orario.

On my take with this story, their conditions were getting worse by the day and so they would probably live only a year or two more at the rate of the symptoms destroying their bodies.

If they had stayed, they could have lived happily beside their loved ones for the little time they had left. But once they were gone, there would be no one to protect their family from the calamities that would ravage the world in the future. Orario would be in a weaker state than it is in canon and would have little chance of clearing the dungeon and defeating the OEBD.

One of you guys pointed out that they could have trained Luke to face this world ending threat. They very well could, but it wouldn't be sufficient for him to be up to the challenge.

He is not the last hero. While he has the potential to be the one of the strongest amongst the adventurers, he is no Bell… It took 5 years for him to reach level 3, and while he could reach S in every basic ability, or surpass it in the case of DEX and AGI, that takes time… Time that Zald and Alfia didnt have.

Furthermore, they didn't want to put all this burden on Lukes shoulder.

Zeus and Hera Familias were the strongest in history. They had the greatest and mightiest adventurers the world has ever seen. Warriors with unparalleled skills and prowess, the best of the best.

And yet, they got annihilated by the Black Dragon… including Lukes parents.

Zald himself lost every pupil and disciple he had that day. He wouldnt allow his last one to carry the weight of the whole world on his back, throwing his life away on a task that was basically impossible to accomplish.

The logical solution was to make a massive level up event in Orario and force them to become stronger in a trial by fire. And have them carry the duty of being the world's last line of defense.

In summary, they were doing it to save their loved ones and by default, the whole world.

Second one: The pairings.

Ive received mixed reactions from the pairings I had proposed. And I understand those that liked it and those that wanted me to switch them.

Luke has some interesting contrast with Ais, that could lead to some nice interactions. They both lost their parents to the OEBD, and both want to get stronger to kill it (although Luke isn't broken by his desire for revenge). Even if I dont pair them, they will still have an influence on each other.

Some of you may argue about the age difference, but that's not something that really matters in the danmachi world. Just look at Bell, hes 14 yet he can already drink, enter the Pleasure Quarter and risk his life daily in the most dangerous job in the world. One thing that I will tackle though, is the lifespan difference.

Elves live way longer than the other races, and would see their loved ones die with old age while they would still be relatively young, and is something that they probably take in consideration.

I've heard a curious theory that says that the reason the elves lived isolated from the other races was to avoid this sad turn of events, as they would live alongside those that shared their same long lifespan. It became distorted into a supremacist idea as time passed, ending up with the current racist culture some forests have.

Ryuu you could see in this chapter how they contrasted. She hates elves and their prejudices even if they are ingrained into her, and Luke is the target of them, someone that by her customs she should abhor. That leads to some interesting developments between them that are not necessarily romantic in nature.

There are many characters that I love in the series and they will get their focus and development throughout the story, who will also become possible pairings or not.

Ryuu and Ais aren't the only pairings I have in mind, either for Bell or Luke.

Ill set up the foundation for any ship that I might pursue in this story, as like I said, they will only start to happen later in the story.

There are some that would be and interesting to write, like a OCxRiveria. I can see them getting along well, and the idea of an elf that is seen as tarnished by his race, getting in a relationship with a High Elf princess would be quite amusing and a fun experience to execute in this story.

Last thing before I go: The LNs are amazing, and a goldmine for fanfic writers to get context on characters' backgrounds and various events that are explained in more detail as well.

It's a shame that Astraea records LN doesn't have an official translation yet, so I'll use the danmemo event as reference as it's almost the same as the novel. I'll also use some of the differences and details listed in the wiki as a source.

Please leave your thoughts about the story in the review section!

This is my first fic and I appreciate any constructive criticism and your feedback will be well received by me.

Until next time! See ya..
