Chapter 12
Disclaimer I don't Coronation Street. This is for entertainment purposes only.
3 months later. Underworld Factory
It has been 3 months since their engagement, Carla was sat in her office when she received a text message.
Sender - Ann
Receiver - Carla
"Can you come to the local park? Please come alone, I need to talk to you."
To say that Carla was confused yet equally worried and alarmed by the text was an understatement.
"Love, I'm just popping out for a bit, I won't belong," Carla called over her shoulder.
"Oake dokey," Frank replied, not even lifting his head up from the samples he was looking at.
The local park.
Carla pulled up to the closest parking space to the park and got out.
She spotted Ann almost instantly and made her way over to her.
The late November air nipped at her skin, Ann wasn't wearing a coat so she could almost imagine how she was feeling.
"Ann, love what are you doing out here on your own? You must be frozen half to death." Carla greeted, taking her coat off and putting it around her.'
"I must have come without it," Ann replied, distantly.
"Oh, Ann love, what's the matter, eh?" Carla asked as she wrapped her arm around her and rubbed her arm.
"Oh Carla, it's all such a mess! I don't know what I'm going to do! I've been in contact with Kate, I don't want to hurt my son and Sam behaves like she never even existed. But she's my daughter! I know what she did was terrible but she's my daughter!" Ann sobbed into Carla's chest.
"Alright, darling. That's it. You just cry it all out. That's it." Carla soothed.
Ann cried solidly for a good 20 minutes.
"I'm sorry I don't know what came over me, ignore me. I shouldn't have gotten you involved. I'm just being a silly old woman." Ann sniffled.
"Don't be silly! You have feelings and emotions too and you're not a silly old woman. Your brave, beautiful and courageous woman, who's just a little lost that's all." Carla told her.
The Rovers
Frank had met his dad for a drink.
"Dad, you and mum need to sort this out," Frank told him.
"After what your own so-called sister did to you. How can you forgive so easily?" Sam asked, annoyed?
"Because life is too short to bear grudges, dad. And I don't know why You're on your high horse, you helped her, so you're a fine one to talk!" Frank hissed.
"Don't you think I know that? She left! No note, no nothing! Cast me and her mother out of her life like we were nothing! After everything, my own daughter! After everything, I risked for her and she chose him over us!" Sam vented.
There was nothing frank could say to that.
The Park
"Let's get out of here, eh? I don't know about you, but I'm freezing." Carla told Ann.
"Yeah, oh your coat," Ann replied, going to take the coat off.
"No, no no you need it more than I do," Carla told her.
Ann softly smiled at her future daughter in law.
"And besides, it's my turn to buy breakfast," Carla informed.
The two women laughed as they left the park together.
The ladies enjoyed a lovely breakfast.
A few hours later
Carla and Frank met back at the factory.
"You ok?" He asked.
"Yeah, just took your mum for breakfast," Carla told him, it wasn't her story to tell.
"Yeah, went for a pint with dad earlier. They need to sort this out." Frank replied.
"They will, January 20th, what do you think?" Carla suggested.
"January 20th?" Frank frowned.
"As a wedding date?" Carla laughter.
"Oh, yeah that's fine with me as a long as I don't have to go dress shopping." He laughed.
"Damn busted!" Carla jokes.
"Don't you dare." Frank fretted.
"Your face," Carla observed.
Frank threw a pen playfully at her.
Ann and Sam's house
"I made you some lunch," Sam told her as she came through the door at his attempt of an apology.
"That would be lovely. Thank you." Ann replied .
"I called Kate, I thought it was about time we finally sort out this sorry state of affairs," Sam told his wife.
"Oh, I've hated fighting with you," Ann replied.
"Me too, me too. She's coming at 2 o'clock." Sam echoed.
The couple enjoyed a nice lunch and enjoyed each other's company for the first time in what felt like a lifetime.
1.30 pm
"I've called Frank, I think he should be here," Sam told his wife.
"He should be, yes. Oh, Sam What if this comes back to bite us?" Ann fretted.
"Then we'll deal with it," Sam reassured.
Frank and Carla arrived just before 2 o'clock.
Kate knocked on her family's front door not long after.
"Dad." Kate greeted nervously.
"Katherine, come in." He replied frostily.
Kate hesitantly made her way inside.
"Katherine!" Ann greeted her daughter enthusiastically, throwing her arms around her.
"Hello, mum," Kate replied, embracing the hug.
Kate decided to leave out the part of them meeting up regularly, her mum didn't need that.
"Kate." Frank greets somewhat robotically.
"Frank, I know nothing can ever make up for what I did, but I just wanted to say how sorry I am for what I did," Kate replied emotionally.
"Come here," Frank replied, pulling his sister into a hug.
The siblings embraced for a good few minutes.
"A part of me will always be angry at what you did, but life's too short. I know that more than most. So from today, we'll move on from this, it'll not be easy. But I'm willing to try. So, Kate, I'd like you to meet my fiancee Carla. Carla love this is kate." Frank introduced the two women.
"Hi, it's lovely to meet you," Carla replied, shaking her hand.
"And you," Kate replied.
"So, what have you been doing with yourself?" Sam asked, breaking the ice.
"Not a lot really, as you predicted, as soon as he got his hands on the money I was no longer of any use to him and he done a runner. So more fool me." Kate laughter bitterly.
"Katherine…" Ann trailed off.
"No, mum it. It's ok. I should have known better." Kate replied, looking at the floor.
"And then what?" Sam asked he wasn't letting this go.
"I managed to hide most of it, so that's seven hundred thousand," Kate revealed.
Carla whistled and raised her eyebrows.
"As soon as he realised he wasn't getting what he wanted from the start. He scarpered." Kate retold the story.
"I just want us all to move on from this." Ann pleaded.
"Yes, mum is right. So, on a lighter note. Carla and I have set a date for the wedding." Frank informed the group.
"Oh, marvellous! When?" Ann exclaimed, excited having something to look forward to.
"January 20th." Carla beamed.
"Oh, we have to go shopping! I know this great little place That does fabulous dresses." Ann told Carla.
"But first, the Fosters favourite time of the year. Christmas!" Sam told the group, clapping his hands together. The group laughed at his enthusiasm.
