Weatherfield General Infirmary - ICU

Carla had yet to awake from her medical induced slumber, as the sedation and medication did their job.

The first thing that registered with Carla's sense was the dull ache that echoed through her body at lightning speed.

"Darling? Can you hear me? Carla? Don't try and move." Frank told her, gently.

Carla only mumbled in response.

Frank went and got the nurse and then came back.

"Hello Carla, I'm Amy. I'll be the nurse that's looking after you. How are you feeling?" Amy smiled warmly at her?

"Sore," Carla replied huskily.

"I'm not surprised. Your temperatures and BP are where I'd like them to be. The surgeon will be round shortly to speak to you and then you'll go for your scan." Amy informed her kindly.

Carla just gives her a weak smile in return as she was that exhausted and in some pain from the operation.

"Baby, I'm so sorry," Frank told her emotionally as he retook her hand.

"Hey, what are you sorry for? You didn't do anything wrong. If you hadn't been there I probably would have died. I owe you my life." Carla whispered, tiredly.

"You owe me nothing. Love. Everyone is here. They are in the relative's room." Frank told her.

"I love them all dearly but I don't think I could handle them all at once right now, love," Carla told him honestly.

"Whatever you want. Darling. Listen there's something you should know." Frank replied, somewhat nervously.

"What is it? You scaring me." Carla replied, somewhat frightened by what he might say.

"You're pregnant, love." He whispered.

"What? No, that can't be right. I would have known." Carla whispered in shock.

"That doesn't matter now, you're going to make a full recovery. You both are going to be alright and that's all I care about right now." Frank told her.

"I honestly don't know how to feel," Carla told him, truthfully.

"You and me both." He replied.

20 minutes later.

An OB/GYN entered ICU and quickly spotted her patient.

"Hi, are you Carla?" She asked, smiling kindly at Carla

"Yeah, that's me," Carla replied, smiling back weakly back at the doctor.

"Great, ok. I'm going to explain what is going to happen. Are you ok for your partner to be here?" She asked, kindly.

"Yes, please don't ask him to leave. I can't do this on my own." Carla began to panic.

"Carla, I'm here, love. It's not going anywhere."

Frank reassures her.

"It's alright, Carla. Nobody is going to ask anyone to leave. I promise." The doctor replied.

Carla breathes a sigh of relief.

As Frank sat with his fiance as she lay in her ICU bed, he couldn't help but be a bit nervous. This was their first time at this, and he didn't know what to expect. He just hoped everything was okay.

On the other hand, Carla seemed more excited than anything. But still nervous Then again, this experience was the same for her as it was for him. He knew how she felt.

The Ultrasound Technician introduced herself as Amy and outlined what exactly would be happening. What Carla and Frank understood during their nervousness and excitement was that Amy would put some jelly-something on Carla's stomach and look around with a monitor-thing over her uterus and then an x-ray-like image would appear of their baby on the screen.

He looked over at Carla and how she was taking in this information and all he saw was an ear-to-ear grin erupt on her face. Frank couldn't help but fall even further in love with his finance of just under a year. Her skin was glowing and he was once again taken aback by her beauty. After months and months of waiting, they were both ready to finally get their happy ending.

As Frank took in his surroundings once more to look around the small room, his nervousness dissipated and was replaced by giddiness and excitement. We get to see our baby! Is Carla as excited? Of course, she's as excited! She'll be amazing.

"The not knowing, the anticipation, the unknown. But today's gonna change that. We might even get a picture. I'm excited, but on the other hand, I don't think we could take any more devastation." Frank thought to himself,

Carla was still nervously looking over at him. As their eyes met, she gave him the most petrified he'd ever seen her give him. He hadn't seen her like that since he found her the night she was attacked, three months ago.

Their blissful moment of sheer anticipation and unadulterated excitement was broken by Amy, grabbing the wand and turning on the screen.

"Alright, so the image will be a tad grainy, but the image should be up just about…" her words were replaced with a tiny grin, though, as she looked towards the screen. The eager couple's gazes fell to the screen as well, and as they finally saw the outline of their child, they let out synchronized peals of laughter. Carla there, repeatedly scanning their child, making sure everything was alright and that the baby was healthy.

Cooing at the screen as if the image alone was the baby they were waiting for. Frank, on the other hand, was still in shock.

Sitting in front of him was his fiance, his best friend, his partner, his lover, his other half—with a baby—their baby—growing inside of her with her stomach uncovered and pure but sitting just thirty or so degrees to his left was a screen: a screen that showed what their child looked like.

The sight of the tiny little almost-child his fiance was carrying made Frank tear up a little. Finally, he couldn't keep in his excitement.

"Oh my God…" he began. "Is that our child? Oh my God! The picture is right there! Is that seriously our baby, Carla? Is this happening? This is our child!" Frank rambled on. At this point, he and Carla were both crying a little and Amy was looked over at the couple and smiled.

(I met you in the dark, you lit me up
You made me feel as though I was enough
We danced the night away, we drank too much
I held your hair back when
You were throwing up
Then you smiled over your shoulder
For a minute, I was stone-cold sober
I pulled you closer to my chest
And you asked me to stay over
I said, I already told ya
I think that you should get some rest
I knew I loved you then
But you'd never know
'Cause I played it cool when I was scared of letting go
I know I needed you
But I never showed
But I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old
Just say you won't let go
Just say you won't let go
I'll wake you up with some breakfast in bed
I'll bring you coffee with a kiss on your head
And I'll take the kids to school
Wave them goodbye
And I'll thank my lucky stars for that night
When you looked over your shoulder
For a minute, I forget that I'm older
I wanna dance with you right now
Oh, and you look as beautiful as ever
And I swear that every day you'll get better
You make me feel this way somehow
I'm so in love with you
And I hope you know
Darling, your love is more than worth its weight in gold
We've come so far, my dear
Look how we've grown
And I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old
Just say you won't let go
Just say you won't let go
I wanna live with you
Even when we're ghosts
'Cause you were always there for me when I needed you most
I'm gonna love you 'til
My lungs give out
I promise 'til death we part Like in our vows
So I wrote this song for you, now everybody knows
That it's just you and me 'til we're grey and old
Just say you won't let go
Just say you won't let go
Just say you won't let go
Oh, just say you won't let go)

James Author(say you won't let go)

The song played softly in the background.
