"And the Lord said there'll be light."
Inside the Parker's Forest Hill home, the elderly man, Ben Parker, was standing on the ladder as he was screwing in a new light bulb in the kitchen ceiling lamp while his wife, May Parker, was standing by the archway.
"And viola, there is light," Ben declared, before putting back on the lamp cover. "Forty soft golden lights of it."
"Good boy, God will be thrilled. Just don't fall on your ass," May joked to her husband, before walking back into the kitchen.
"I'm already on my ass, May," Ben said, lowering himself from the ladder. "When the plant senior electrician gets laid off after thirty-five years, what else will you call it? I'm on my ass."
"Hand me that dish, the green one," May pointed at the bowl that was residing across the kitchen.
"Cooperations was downsizing their people and upsizing their profits," Ben said, grabbing the bowl and handing it to May.
"Ben, you'll get another job somewhere," May reassured.
"Eh, well... well, let's look in the paper and see," Ben grabbed a newspaper that was laying on the counter before sitting at the dining table. "There are the want ads. What do we got here? Computer... computer salesman, computer engineer, computer analyst. My Lord, even the computers need analysts these days."
May walked out of the kitchen to her husband's side with a steaming pot in her hands.
"May, I'm 68 years old. I'm too old for computers, and besides, I have a family to provide for," Ben said.
May put the pot down on the dining table and placed her hands on Ben's shoulders. "I love you. And Peter loves you. You're the most responsible man I've ever known," She gave a kiss on Ben's forehead. "We've been down-and-out before. But somehow, we survive."
Ben let out a small exhale in comfort, agreeing with his wife. "Yeah."
The two turned to the front door as their nephew, Peter, walking in, followed by a worried Gwen Stacy.
"Oh, hi, sweetie, You're just in... " May's words trailed off when she noticed Peter's not feeling well by the look of his expression. "... Just in time for dinner."
"Hey, how it is, buddy? How's the field trip?" Ben asked his nephew with an enthusiastic smile, hoping to cheer him up.
Peter dropped his hoodie and backpack on the family couch. "Uh, I'm not feeling well. I'm going to sleep."
"You don't wanna have a bite?" May asked.
"No thanks," Peter declined, skipping all the way to the stairs. "I had a bite before."
Ben walked by the stair's handrails, worried by his nephew's wellbeing. "Did... did you take some pictures, Peter?"
Not knowing how to respond without worrying his folks, Peter continued to walk up the stairs leading to his bedroom. "Uh, I gotta crash. Everything's fine."
After hearing Peter's bedroom door closed, Ben turned to Gwen with a concern expression on his face. "What's that all about?"
Gwen still had her worried look as she kept her eyes on her best friend. "I don't know."
Meanwhile next door, Mary Jane was sitting at the dining table with her elderly mother, Madeline Watson, as they were having her iconic spaghetti meatballs for dinner.
For some strange reason, MJ couldn't find the stomach to eat the meatballs, as she was just poking and turning it with her fork, which baffled her, because she always enjoyed eating her mother's food.
Madeline finally took notice of her daughter's not eating her spaghetti meatballs. "Mary Jane, you hadn't touched your dinner for 10 minutes."
"Sorry, Mom. Just not feeling hungry," MJ apologized with an tired voice.
Feeling concern for her daughter, Madeline placed her hand on MJ's forehead to check if she was experiencing any sickness. "Oh my, you're burning up. Should I call a doctor?"
"No!" MJ blurted out, catching her mother off-guard by her loud outburst. She tried recomposing herself to control her tone. "I mean, it's okay, Mom. Maybe I just need a little rest, that's all," She then stood up from her chair. "Can I be excused?"
Before Madeline could reply, MJ just stepped away from the dining table and walked her way up the stairs to her bedroom. She hoped her daughter will be better the next day.
In his room, as his door was already closed shut, Peter started to feel dread with sweat, forcing him to remove his striped t-shirt and dropped it on his bedroom floor, leaving himself shirtless. He then started to feel his lungs burning underneath, making it harder for him to breathe.
MJ's experiences with her sudden sickness wasn't that too different.
As she walked into her own room, MJ started to feel uncomfortable from the heat that was burning in her own skin. Feeling increasingly and unbearably sweaty, she stripped herself of her clothing, leaving behind just her undergarments. After tossing her discarded clothes aside, MJ tried to take one more look at herself in her mirror that was standing by her closet. She started to notice how her heavily puffy her eyes were. Feeling like she couldn't keep them open, she turned away from her mirror.
Happening 'coincidentally' at the same time, Peter and Mary Jane were sent in a twirl of daze as they couldn't stand any longer, succumbing to the pain. They only managed to reach the edge of their beds before eventually falling to the floor of their respective rooms.
They grabbed for their sleeping blankets, pulling it down to cover their sweaty-filled bodies. Their pupils started to rapidly rolling up and down.
"... Transfer RNA to encode an entirely new genome, combining the genetic information from all three spiders..."
In reaction to the strange sensations going on underneath their skins, Peter and Mary Jane gave in to their slumber as their bodies were about to go through a painful, yet extraordinary transformation.
"... Into these fifthteen genetically designed super-spiders."
Little did they know, the day they were bitten was the last day a choice to live a normal life was considered an option to them.

A/N: Sorry for being lackluster with this chapter. Felt there isn't much going on enough for me make it worth the length. But the next one will be just the beginning of what this universe has in store for them.
Anyway, any constructive criticisms and comments would be greatly appreciated. I hope you enjoy reading this chapter.
Reviews:
Rivet94: Yeah, since Gwen won't be playing a girlfriend role in this universe, I like to keep her on a more supporting role for couple.
And yes, I did use a bit of Silk elements for Mary Jane, as you noticed. I do like adding little simple nods for multiversal consistencies' sake.
Bountyhunter1977: I'll try my best to deviate from the films as I can, but for the first film plot's sake, there'll only be some minor changes before leading into my take for the next two films.
As for the Harry and MJ relationship plot, as much as I don't like it like you and others, it's crucial they have some relevance for the majority of the series, because I had something planned that requires them for my take on Spider-Man 3. Hopefully the endgame will make it worth it.
DCDGojira: Who knows? We'll see. And thank you.
