Defenders of the Earth: This Is Their Side Story

"The Girl From Earth Y"

Earth B

Duffy swung her car onto Suncrest lane. She was truly loving this latest gift — a blue Corvette with an all-wheel drive, along with adjustments that she had made.

Her fellow Defenders were special friends. She was so grateful for what they'd done. Besides treating Duffy as one of their own, they'd used their connections to pull some strings. She was a full-fledged citizen now.

The trip was smooth, without much stress. Duffy often paused to appreciate that. Back on Earth Y, a green light lasted for around twenty seconds. Drivers got significantly more time here.

She pulled into the studio parking lot. Time to go to work. Time to engage.

As she stepped in with her stuffed gym bag, she spotted the usual cast and crew. Sheila wasn't present among them, though.

"Duffy," Jan said as she crossed the floor. "Is Sheila with you?"

"I thought she was here," Duffy replied as she pulled her phone. This was yet another little nifty tool. Earth Y didn't have cell phones yet. The very thought of that had made April flinch.

About a minute later, she ended the call. Then she addressed all the crew and cast.

"Sheila will be sitting this episode out. She meant to call sooner, but she's busy at home. She doesn't have her babysitter working today."

After everybody got dressed for the shoot, they stepped before the camera and assumed their positions.

The music for Universal Yoga played.

Duffy flashed a smile. "Welcome to the show. I'm Daphne Gordon. Joining me, of course, are Rose and Jan, along with Ricardo and Stephen too. I hope that everybody's pumped up out there! Yoga is only half the exercise."

Duffy took a seat on the balcony, watching gold light spreading over the yard. She rested her feet on the comfortable rail, feeling a breeze passing over her soles. She couldn't help basking in moments like this; they were rather rare in the place she was raised. Back on Earth Y, winters lasted eight of the thirteen months; the other five were made up of autumn and spring.

Duffy made a grin at the sights out ahead. She'd do all she could for this beautiful world. That was her vow. This was her home. She loved Earth B. She always would.
