Hourglass
Chapter 1
It was Sunday. Night fell on Tokyo-3 as Shinji lay in his bed, listening to his S-DAT. Asuka was out on the town with Hikari. Misato fell asleep after drinking 2 more beers than usual tonight. And Pen-Pen was snacking on some fish. Shinji got up from his bed. 'Dang' he thought, 'Asuka has been going out a lot recently, I wonder if she's okay.' He strolled into the living room, turned on the TV, and turned it off after seeing that nothing good was on. He strolled back into his room and Turned on his gaming PC, he saw that Toji and Kensuke were playing Apex Legends.
"They're on." Shinji muttered to himself, "I'm going to join them."
Toji and Kensuke were very excited that Shinji had decided to join them.
"Shin man!" Toji yelled through the microphone,
"What's up dude you haven't been on in ages!"
"Yeah!" Kensuke shouted, "Where have you been?"
"Sorry guys." Shinji started, "Asuka has been keeping me on my toes and has been wanting my constant attention. The only times I get to play with you guys is when she goes out with Hikari or when she goes to run errands."
"That's stupid!" Toji yelled, "I would never let Hikari control my life like that!"
Then Toji went quiet.
"Guys" he whispered, "Hikari is home, and heard me say that, goodbye."
Toji left the voice call but before he could there was the sound of him screaming that was suddenly cut off.
'Oh no' Shinji thought, 'That means Asuka is gonna be home soon. She'll kill me if she sees that I was up past 10.' Shinji began to say his goodbyes to Kensuke but it was too late. Before Shinji knew it, Asuka had her hand on his shoulder and was leaning over to see his computer screen.
"What do you think you're doing?" Asuka asked, "In case you didn't notice, it's 1:00 AM." Shinji shut down his computer as quickly as he could.
"I'm sorry Asuka!" he said, collapsing to the floor. "I didn't think you'd be home until later!"
"So that made you think you could stay up past 10! We have school tomorrow, you need your sleep!" Asuka yelled.
"Keep it down you two!" Misato yelled through the walls. Asuka quieted down. She grabbed Shinji and threw him on his bed.
"Go to bed, now!" She said with a stern voice. She then left the room and Shinji eventually drifted off to sleep.
It was now Monday. Shinji woke up to his alarm to see that Asuka was snuggled up against him under the covers. He shook her awake.
"You just can't get enough of me can you?" He said with a smirk that stretched from cheek to cheek. Asuka half asleep said,
"What makes you say that idiot?"
"You couldn't sleep in your room, by yourself, for one night." Shinji said while chuckling
"Shut up idiot." Asuka mumbled. Asuka then wobbled out of bed and into her room to get changed. Shinji followed her out the door and went into the kitchen to make a quick breakfast. By this time Misato was gone and already at NERV. 'I hope another angel doesn't show up.' Shinji thought to himself, 'They keep getting stronger and stronger. I'm not sure how much longer we can keep fighting them off.' Asuka entered the kitchen in her school uniform and sat at the table waiting for Shinji to finish making breakfast.
"Hurry up idiot! We're gonna be late to school if you keep going at this pace!" Asuka yelled. Shinji gave Asuka a piece of toast, she quickly ate it and they went on their way.
As they were walking to school Shinji got the feeling that they were being watched. Shinji looked at an alley-way and saw a shadowy figure slither back into the darkness. Shinji stopped and stared at the alley, he felt a sense of fear and anger, it was familiar.
"Shinji" Asuka said, "Are you coming?"
"Yeah" Shinji said, slowly turning away from the alley-way.
'Who was that?' he thought, 'and why did it seem so familiar?'
Shinji and Asuka made it to school. They went and sat down in class. Shinji noticed that Toji had a huge bruise on his cheek.
"What happened to you?" Shinji asked. "Hikari happened," Toji muttered. The bruise was about the size of a billiard ball.
"Yikes!" Kensuke said "That's pretty bad."
Before Toji could say anything, someone bursted into the classroom. It was Gendo, he made his way to the chalkboard and wrote down Mr. Ikari. He then turned to the class,
"Your teacher is sick, so I will be your substitute until he is well again."
"Dude, that's your dad!" Toji whispered to Shinji.
"Mr. Suzahara!" Gendo shouted, "Do you have something to say?"
"No sir!" Toji said as he shot up out of his seat. "I'm sorry sir!"
Toji then sat down, Gendo proceeded to teach a lesson on Shakespere.
"Now" Gendo began "Who here knows how many poems Shakespere wrote?"
The class was silent.
'We never learned about Shakespere' Shinji thought 'all we ever talk about is second impact '
"Shinji" Gendo said "How many poems did Shakespere write?"
"Um, I don't know." Shinji mumbled "10?"
The class giggled and Gendo was heavily disappointed.
"You'd be surprised to find that you're wrong Shinji," Gendo grumbled.
"Rei" Gendo looked at Rei who had been sitting in the back corner of the class as usual.
"Yes?" she said in her usual monotone voice.
"Why don't you tell the class the real answer to this simple question?"
"Yes" She said "Shakespere wrote over 150 short and long poems, many of which are considered to be the finest written in english." She said with no hesitation.
The class looked in awe, and Gendo had a small grin on his face. School went on, Shinji, Toji, and Kensuke all had their turns of being humiliated in front of the class. Then eventually, after what felt like an eternity, school was over. Shinji, Toji, and Kensuke made it out of the school as fast as possible. They made plans to hangout today.
Shinji, Toji, and Kensuke made their way to the local park and stood by a tree where no one else was around.
"Check this out guys" Kensuke said as a smug grin stretched from cheek to cheek across his face.
"What is it?" asked Shinji and Kensuke. Kensuke reached into his backpack and pulled out a bag full of dried up green leaves.
"Is that" Shinji started,"weed?" He said, shocked that Kensuke, a kid obsessed with military vehicles and perfect grades, would ever have weed on him.
"No way!" Shouted Toji.
"Shh!" Kensuke snarled, "do you want somebody to hear us?"
"Oops sorry" Toji whispered.
"Alright fellas" Kensuke began "who's ready to get high?"
"I'm not sure this is such a good idea guys." Shinji said with concern.
"Don't be such a baby Shinji" Toji semi-whispered, "the only way we get caught is if we're stupid about it, so when we're all done smoking, go home and go straight to bed. That way we don't get caught."
"Alright fine" Shinji groaned, "This plan better work because Asuka will kill me if she finds out that I was high."
"That's my boy!" Said Toji"
The three boys chuckled a bit, and then they proceeded to smoke weed for the first time in their lives.
