Day 18 Ocean Evie/Sirena, 212 words, Rating G
She always knew one day her Mermaid would eventually leave. Mermaids couldn't stay on land forever, even she knew that, and she was only a former part time Mermaid. Evie just didn't think it would be so soon she'd be saying goodbye.
"I'll be back, I promise," Sirena had held her close as they said their goodbyes on the beach at Mako. Zac stood beside them, Chris and Mimmi saying their own goodbye somewhere behind them.
"I know," Evie could only whisper, the lump in her throat constricting her voice. She didn't want Sirena to go.
"You remember my song? When the Moon is Full, and right over the island, sing and I'll sing it with you. The ocean cannot keep us apart."
"I love you," Evie said.
"I love you too," Sirena leaned in and met Evie in one last kiss, salty with tears and the ever present spray of the Sea her Mermaid always had on her.
Evie could only watch, leaning on Zac as Sirena disappeared into the waves. A final fluke of her tail was the last thing she saw before the Ocean took Sirena away.
She stared at the ocean every day after, hoping to see Sirena again.
The ocean will bring her back. It has too.
