A/N: This is my first Blue Bloods story, so I hope you guys enjoy it! I will admit that I haven't seen every BB episode...I started actively watching it when season 12 was on, so I've seen all of season 12 and 13 (and a handful of episodes throughout the series) and I'm sad that 14 will be the end :(

Also, I'm not from New York and have never been there...I also know nothing about alcohol (for a later chapter), which is why I left the bottles generic because the little research I did, I didn't want to name which alcohol and have the story not be true. I also have no medical background. So if anything is wrong or wouldn't happen IRL, then just suspend disbelief ;)

TRIGGER WARNING: I'll put one at the beginning of the chapters as well, but there is talk of SA and suicide.

Chapter 1 – The Bad News

Police Commissioner Francis "Frank" Reagan was sitting at his desk in his office at the top of 1PP, thinking about the phone call he had just received from a friend who works at the New York Department of Corrections. He had some unfortunate news to give and he wasn't sure how to go about it, since it would affect his family. After thinking about how he was going to say it, he called Detective Abigail Baker on his desk phone, who answered it after the first ring. "Baker, call the 12th Precinct and have Officer Reagan come to my office ASAP," he instructed his Primary Aide.

"Yes sir," she said as she hung up and began making the necessary calls. Frank got up from his chair and walked over to the big windows that gave him the best view, in his opinion, of New York City. He had his hands behind his back and waited for Officer Reagan to arrive. He was not looking forward to having to tell his youngest son what he was just informed a few minutes ago.

Officer Jameson "Jamie" Reagan was in the driver's side of the patrol car, which was parked on a side street, while his partner, Officer Edit "Eddie" Janko was in the passenger side. It was the start of their long work week, since they both decided to sign up for overtime on top of their normally scheduled shifts. It was almost the end of a slow day and they were both looking forward to being able to go home and relax. Suddenly the conversation they were having was interrupted when Jamie's phone started to ring. "Who is it?" Eddie asked, after seeing the puzzled look on her partner's face.

Jamie looked at her while he answered the phone. "Yes Captain?" he said. "No, we don't have anything going on…Right now?...Did he happen to say what it was about?...Yes sir, I'll be there as soon as possible, thank you." He hung up and looked over at Eddie. "Apparently the PC needs to see me," he told her.

Now this time Eddie had a puzzled look on her face. "Do you know why?" she asked, which was met with a shrug and a shake of the head. "Well since our shift is almost done, do you just wanna drop me off at the 1-2 before you head your way to 1PP?"

"Sure," Jamie said as he started the patrol car and drove towards their Precinct.

Sometime later, Frank was still standing in front of the windows when his office door opened. "Sir, Officer Reagan is here," his Aide informed him.

"Thank you, Baker, send him in." He turned back towards his desk and took a seat in his chair while Baker held the door open so Jamie could come in. "At ease," he told his youngest when he saluted, gesturing for him to sit.

The young officer did as he was instructed. "What's this about, sir?" he asked, keeping it professional.

Frank smiled softly. "This is more of a personal call," he started, looking down at his folded hands that were on his desk.

Jamie could immediately tell why this wasn't going to be good: the look on his dad's face, the demeanor of his voice, and that this was a personal visit to 1PP during working hours. "Everything okay?" he asked his father.

Frank was still looking down when he started talking again. "I've been thinking about how to say this and I guess the best way is to just say it." He looked up with sad eyes, knowing this would hurt his youngest. "Robert Hastings is being released."

Suddenly memories that Jamie thought were long locked away came flooding back to him. "What?" he asked in disbelief. He looked at his dad, hoping it wasn't true. "I thought he had like 3 more years left?" He tried to be strong and firm in his voice, but the wavering gave him away.

Frank sighed. He could see the fear in his son's eyes, no matter how hard Jamie tried to mask it. "I still have a friend who works at the DOC; he called and let me know that Hastings received an order of good time and gets to be released early for good behavior," he said, trying to break the news as gently as he could.

"When?" Jamie softly asked, not looking his dad in the eyes.

"Tomorrow morning," came the reply, just as softly. In just a few seconds, Jamie's world turned completely upside down, which made his head spin. Robert Hastings…he hadn't heard that name or even thought of that name in almost 20 years. It was silent for a minute, as Frank let his son process what he just told him. "You going to be okay?" he asked him.

Jamie almost didn't hear what his dad said, preoccupied with the memories that kept wanting to push their way up to the front. "Yeah," he said, trying to sound confident to reassure his father.

It didn't work. Frank could see right through him, but he knew not to push. "I can let the rest of the family know if you'd like me to," he said, receiving a nod of the head. "If you need anything or want to talk, please call one of us."

Jamie finally looked his dad. "I will," he said, giving him a small smile. "Was that everything?" He started to stand before he received an answer; he just wanted to get out of here and go home. He saluted his Commissioner again and walked out of the room. Frank watched all of that unfold, not sure what to say or think. His mind went back in time, when Robert Hastings first brought hell upon his family, specifically on Jamie. It took his youngest some time to get back to normal…for their family to get back to normal. He sent up a silent prayer that they'd all be okay before getting on his phone and calling his father, his oldest son, and his daughter.

"Son of a bitch," Detective Daniel "Danny" Reagan said after he got off the phone. He was sitting at his desk, debating on if he should call his brother but knew that he probably needed some space right now.

"What's wrong?" asked his partner, Detective Maria Baez, who was sitting across from him.

Danny looked at her. "This guy, Robert Hastings. Jamie testified against him when he was 13 and he got sentenced to 20 years in prison."

Maria's eyes widened. "Oh wow. You've never told me about that before."

"It's just something that I think Jamie should tell. It happened when he was a kid and he doesn't like to talk about it, which I don't blame him. But that was my dad on the phone. Apparently, Hastings is getting out early for good behavior and will be released tomorrow morning. He had Jamie in his office and told him, so now he's making his rounds and telling the rest of the family," he informed his partner.

She looked at him and shook her head. "Geez. How's Jamie taking it?" she asked.

Danny shook his head. "I don't know, not good it sounds like. I guess he was trying to act like everything was okay but dad knew it wasn't. I'm not even sure what all he remembers…" he trailed off, recalling how Jamie was during those times. "All I know is that dirtbag better stay away from the kid, otherwise I'll be the one behind bars," he threatened. After calming down he stood up. "I'll be back, I need to call Linda."

Maria watched him as he walked away, not sure on what to say to her partner to make things better. Based off of Danny's reaction and anger, she could only imagine what happened to Jamie all those years ago; which if she were Danny, she'd be pissed too. She just hoped that whatever happened to the Reagan family, it didn't happen again.

The next day, Jamie and Eddie were in their patrol car, driving around. Eddie could tell something was wrong with her partner, but he hadn't said anything about what it was. Actually, he hadn't said much of anything during the whole shift, which was halfway over. He kept looking at the time when the day first started, but then stopped once the late afternoon hit. Finally she bit the bullet and decided to ask. "Is everything okay with you? You've hardly spoken a word all shift…does it have something to do with why the PC wanted to see you yesterday?"

Jamie looked at her and then towards the road. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was being so quiet," he said. "I didn't get much sleep last night and I guess I'm still a little tired, that's all."

"Look, we've been partners for a few years, so I feel like I know when something's wrong, and something's wrong…more than just you being tired. I need to know if you're okay and will watch my back if something happens," she said.

He glanced over at her. "Yeah, everything's good. And you don't need to worry…I got your six," he reassured her. He looked over again and saw the caring and also some stubbornness in her eyes. He let out a sigh. "Okay, how about after work, we go out for a couple of drinks and I'll tell you what's going on. My treat."

She looked straight ahead and thought about it. After a little while, she looked to him again. "Deal." Jamie gave her a soft smile and nodded, before the quiet was broken by their radios, telling them about a possible home invasion that was happening nearby. Jamie flipped on the lights and sirens while Eddie radioed back saying they were on their way.
