(AN) Hello and welcome to chapter three of Aftermath; hope you all enjoy.
In this chapter, Amy finally opens up to David about Charlie and Scutt raping her, we also get more character moments. This chapter is quite short.
I realised that I made a slight mistake in the last chapter: I was wrong about what Scutt was saying to Charlie right before getting shot, but I've corrected this. This was due to the audio quality of the version I watched on Youtube, which sometimes made it hard to understand what characters were saying.
Warning: this chapter mostly consists of a flashback to a shortened version of THAT scene from the film.
Disclaimer: I don't own Straw Dogs; all characters and locations are owned by their respective owners.
Chapter Three
David just stared at his wife in shock; trying to process what he'd just heard. "W-what?" he uttered in shock, "How? W-when?"
"While you were on your little hunting trip." replied Amy quietly, tears streaming down her face.
David felt as if a pile of bricks had landed on his head: Charlie hadn't invited him on that hunting trip just to abandon him; he'd done it to lure him out of the house.
"Oh my god," said a horrified David, "What happened?"
"Well, after you'd left, I sat down to have a read," began Amy quietly, "Sometime after I started, there was a knock at the door.
Flashback
Amy was sat on the sofa and reading a newspaper when there was suddenly a soft knock at the front door. "Who is it?" she called out sharply, looking up from her paper.
There was no reply. After a few moments, there was another knock at the door. Amy put the paper down before getting to her feet, walking over to the front door and opening it, where she saw Charlie leaning on the doorframe. This made Amy wonder if something had happened to David.
"Is David alright?" asked Amy in concern.
"He's fine," lied Charlie, "Enjoying himself. May I come in?"
Amy hesitated with an answer for a couple of seconds, still not feeling comfortable with Charlie's recent behaviour, but she decided that maybe she could get answers about her cat out of him. "Alright." she replied.
Amy walked back inside and allowed Charlie to enter. "Would you like a drink?" the young woman asked as she headed towards the kitchen.
"I'd love one." replied Amy's ex before locking the door and making his way towards the kitchen.
Charlie put his gun against the stairs and watched as Amy poured a drink into a glass.
Amy turned and noticed Charlie staring at her, which made her skin crawl.
"Would you like me to go and come back later?" asked Charlie.
"No," replied Amy, "Stay and have your drink: I'd like to know what you think of cats."
The young man took his jacket off and flung it on to the floor before slowly walking towards Amy. "I do fancy cats." he remarked.
Amy began feeling uneasy as Charlie got right in her face. Before she could even react, Charlie suddenly leaned in and kissed her, leaving the woman stunned. The blonde began trying to gently push the young man away, she then managed to pull away; looking at Charlie in complete shock. "Please leave me." she begged nervously.
Charlie simply ignored her and removed her glasses before throwing them aside, he then began kissing her again, causing Amy's eyes to widen in horror. Amy began struggling and pushing back against her ex, she then managed to pull away. "Get out!" she barked angrily before slapping the young man across the face.
Amy attempted to run, but Charlie grabbed her by the shoulders and tried to hold the struggling woman, he then punched her in the face, sending the blonde to the floor. Amy looked up and saw Charlie reaching out to touch her face, she then scrambled to her feet and backed away from the man before finding her back against the wall.
Charlie slowly advanced on his ex; a lustful look in his eyes. "Please, Amy," he begged, "Please."
Charlie reached out to stroke Amy's hair, but she quickly slapped his hand away before slapping him across the face, she then tried to run again, but Charlie grabbed her by the hair, forced the blonde on to her knees and started dragging her towards the sofa.
"NO!" shouted a horrified Amy as she realised what Charlie intended to do.
Charlie stopped, released his grip before pulling Amy to her feet and slapping her across the face, he then tore the struggling blonde's dressing gown off before shoving her on to the sofa and throwing the dressing gown on top of her lower area. Amy began trembling in fear as Charlie crawled on top of her. The young man grabbed Amy's head and started kissing her; ignoring her terrified whimpering. Amy desperately tried to push Charlie off of her, but it was no use. After a few more moments, Amy managed to push Charlie's head away.
"Please, Charlie!" begged Amy in a terrified voice.
Amy managed to push Charlie away, but he quickly grabbed her wrists, only for the blonde to break free. Amy tried to hit Charlie, but the young man raised his hand, ready to strike.
"Amy, I don't want to hurt you, but I will!" hissed Charlie in a threatening manner.
End Flashback
David felt sick to his stomach after Amy had told him all that.
"A-and then, h-he ripped open my s-shirt and … raped me!" cried Amy before breaking down into loud sobbing.
David instantly gathered his wife into a hug; rubbing her back and making hushing noises as she sobbed into his shoulder.
"Oh, Amy, I'm so sorry," said David sympathetically, "But how does Scutt fit into this?"
"S-Scutt must've heard the noises coming from inside the house because he suddenly c-came in through the back door!" replied a terrified Amy, "When I saw Scutt, I thought he'd come to rescue me from Charlie! C-Charlie stopped and got off of me, and at first, I-I thought they'd let me g-go, but instead, Charlie rolled me on to my stomach, pinned me down and allowed S-Scutt to rape me!"
Amy continued to sob into her husband's shoulder. "A-after they left, I felt s-so ashamed, so I took a shower and threw my shirt and dressing gown out!" she sobbed into his shoulder.
"And there was me getting upset at those guys for deserting me!" commented a horrified David, "I should've realised there was something wrong when you weren't acting yourself!"
"I didn't want you to know!" muttered a distraught Amy, "I tried to act like everything was fine, but then when I saw Charlie and Scutt at the social event, I c-couldn't handle it: there were things at the event itself that kept giving me flashbacks! I didn't tell you because I was ashamed and didn't want to burden you; I'm sorry!"
"N-no, Amy, you have nothing to apologise for!" stated a distraught David, "If anybody should be apologising, it's me! I should've taken your concerns more seriously and I should've stood up to those men, but instead, I hid away and ignored you! I just wanted to prove that I was manly and tough!"
"You shouldn't have to pretend that you're something you're not," said Amy as she looked at her husband, "I love you just the way you are: I never wanted you to change your personality, I just wanted you to stand up for yourself and others more. Never be afraid to show your emotions."
"The one thing I regret now is that you'll never get justice for what they did." muttered David sadly.
The couple simply sobbed while hugging each other.
(AN) And that's it for this short chapter of Aftermath; hope you all enjoyed.
The next chapter will hopefully be longer. Next time: David and Amy get updates from the police; we learn the identity of the cat killer and we see the Sumners still struggling with PTSD.
Until then, this is TimeLordMaster108 signing out.
