Occupation: Medicine Store Owner and Guardian of the Senjutsu Scroll - Ki Control
Appearance: When we first met him, Yao had bright brown hair that matched his pants and shoes with Forest Green Kung Fu Robes which hid his black wristbands. His hair was done in a long low braid in the back with two bangs in front of his face. After moving to Brazil to train with Oro, he washed the dye out, revealing his true hair color of a dark brown. His skin is slightly tanned from being well-traveled. Also has 38 scars which turned into 41 spread across his upper body after his fight with Vega in China.
Age: 22 in the Prologue of YGJ, 23 during the World Warrior Arc, 25 during the S.I.N. Arc, 28 during SFV, 31 during SF 6.
Mannerisms: Generally soft-spoken, friendly, and kindhearted to friends and family. Is fierce, intense, and frightening to enemies. Has a soft, aloof voice when in casual conversation. In serious times or fights, his voice becomes harsh and ragged. Can and will nerd out about Martial Arts if you give him the chance. Is wise for his age thanks to the people he's been mentored by.
What does he/she wear?: Forest green Kung-Fu robes with brown pants and matching Kung-Fu shoes. After coming back to Hong Kong, he wore a black sleeveless top with his family character in gold on the bottom left and on the back, with black and white wristbands on both hands blue pants, and black kung fu shoes. Additionally, he wore a coat that matched his shirt. When he moved to Brazil, he modified the outfit so he wouldn't struggle to put them on with his Limiter Rings. As a result, his coat sleeves are a lot larger.
Favorite color: Forest Green
What is he/she good at?: Yao is a Master Martial Artist and thanks to the Senjutsu Scrolls, knows every Chinese Martial Art from front to back. His experience running a store has also given him knowledge of bartering. His first trip to Brazil also taught him how to Breakdance thanks to learning about Capoeira.
What is he/she bad at?: In terms of sexual encounters, Yao is one bad encounter away from being a man-whore. He also tends to beat himself up for what he did in Metro City as a member of the Mad Gear Gang, especially forcing himself on Jessica Haggar. Even though he's earned the forgiveness of everyone he wronged there, it's not something Yao has done for himself. While extremely difficult to anger, Yao tends to hold grudges against those who earned his. For example, Juri, during the S.I.N. arc. He can be a little cynical and closed off from people he doesn't know or trust yet. And that goes double for any former Mad Gear members. Especially Damnd, Sodom, Belger, and Abigail.
What does he/she want?: To be left alone. Barring the people he's close to like his family, friends, adopted siblings, and co-workers, Yao doesn't like to be bothered. But his skill as a Martial Artist makes that impossible. It's to the point where he doesn't enjoy fighting as much as he did when he was younger. To him, being this strong is a job.
What is his/her goal?: To grow strong enough and protect the people he's close to. (Though they all can defend themselves)
What lie does he/she believe?: That he hasn't faced his Karmic Retribution from his time in Metro City.
What flaw results from the lie?: That he isn't deserving of the many blessings he has been given or the blessings he's earned.
What truth does he/she learn?: That he's been long since forgiven of his crimes and can move on freely from those mental shackles he put on himself.
What is his/her background?:
Wuming Yao was born into one of the most influential Wushu Families in China thanks to his mother being the daughter of the Patriarch and Matriarchs of the family. The actual name of this family was long forgotten in history so they took the name of Wuming or 'Nameless' until they become betrothed to another. Yao is a once-in-a-generation level prodigy in Wushu before his family ties came into play. That would be proven as he would become the youngest man in history to earn the title of Sennin at only 25 years old.
Yao is also well-traveled as he's been to every inhabitable continent at least once. Though he doesn't like to talk about his time in the United States as it would end up being a waste of four years. He would forcibly be a part of the country's worst crime syndicate, the Mad Gears. And would begrudgingly work under the leader Belger as his bodyguard and enforcer as he played the part of a paraplegic. After being freed from his servitude, Yao was arrested in Hong Kong and forced to work alongside the woman he would eventually fall hard for, Chun-Li. During an Op in Colombia, he freed three of the Dolls, bested Balrog which resulted in a one-sided grudge on the part of the Boxer, and adopted the Chinese Dolls, Xiayu and Jianyu into the Wuming Family effectively becoming a big brother to them. (And eventually the rest of the Dolls)
When the world isn't going down the drain, he typically runs the family Medicine Store as per familial tradition. Though his uncle Guai lets him leave his title as a Sennin should be met with an expansive view of the world as opposed to a gilded cage. His ties to the First Lady of Fighting Games allowed him to occasionally work as an Interpol Agent, helping her or other branches of the world's Criminal Justice system in apprehending criminals. Most of the time with supernatural levels of strength or influence. In his travels, he'll positively impact a lot of people, but he's learned through his attempts at helping a certain Korean Woman that he can't save everyone.
But that is not nor will it ever be enough to stop him from trying. And if all else fails?
It doesn't hurt that he's arguably the most powerful Martial Artist in the world with a more than passable Moral Compass.
Additional Questions about Yao?
- How often does Yao stay in contact with the former dolls other than his siblings?
Yao makes a personal to visit one of the dolls if he finds himself in their country of origin. It's always a surprise to them since he never tells them that he's coming. But since they all treat him and call him big brother in their respective languages, he might as well support them whenever he's around.
- Does Yao feel regrets about the women he's dealt with?
The only regrets he has towards the previous women he's been involved with were how Roxy, Maki, and Lucia practically ruined white women for him pretty much for the rest of his life. All of those sexual encounters were done on impulse, a product of his nineteen-twenty-year-old mind. He's learned from those encounters since most of the other women he's been with since then have blossomed into a full relationship or has happened in some sort of AU with the exception of Juri who remains a blight in his eyes. If it weren't for Chun's insistence on their first time, Yao would've lost his mind before he came back to Aberdeen. Proving that Chun is truly one of the best women in mind for him.
Editor's Thoughts?
Believe it or not, I see a bit of myself in Yao as he only wishes to do what's right and not be bothered by anyone. Yet with the company he keeps and brings, it's difficult to do such a thing. Such is the life of a martial artist, let alone a Sennin. He may not reach a perfect balance or any at all, but that won't mean he'll stop trying. Though I do believe he really needs to get his personal life together before it ruins him beyond measure.
