Welp, here's my first story. I decided I'd take a spin and try something that would stick along the lines of canon without too many drastic changes to the main plot, but something that also gave me enough room to create new content and story lines within it.

This story will mostly be through the eyes of the OC's, but I do plan on having viewpoints from the main cast and having them integrated enough to keep the story central to the main plot.

As a disclaimer, I don't own RWBY

Chapter 1-Prologue

"Good luck Roy I know you'll make us proud"

The voice of his mom from the message seemed to echo before shutting off with the beep of his scroll. He must have listened to it at least a dozen times over on the bullhead ride. Yet now the reality of his situation was setting in.

He really made it. He was here at Beacon Academy, the greatest huntsman academy in all of Remnant according to…. according to…. well him because it was the place that accepted him into their ranks. Call him a little biased with his newfound pool of school spirit.

Now looking at what seemed to be a literal fantasy castle in front of him the only thing he could eke out was, "Wow".

His moment of awe was promptly interrupted with the sound of a hurl followed by a girlish scream.

Looking to his left through the crowd he saw the perpetrator and his victim. A tall, blonde, and scraggly boy was sprinting off in the direction of what he could only assume was the nearest trash can.

And in his wake standing there mortified, was who Roy wouldn't care to admit the most attractive girl he had ever seen. She had long flowing golden hair that somehow gave the impression of both being wild and unkempt yet also meticulously cared for. However, the emotion that graced her face was that of unadulterated disgust; it wasn't out of place as Roy noticed that the contents of the previous boy's stomach had splattered on what he could only assume were brand new boots.

The smell then carried over to where Roy was standing and he grimaced as the putrid smell invaded his nostrils. "This seems to be my sign to get going" He muttered out to no one in particular.

He grabbed his duffel bag of stuff, which wasn't really much: just some spare clothes and his huntsman equipment; he didn't really feel the need to have his weapons on him, under the assumption that a huntsman academy was probably one of the safest places on Remnant.

Walking in the direction of most other students he glanced over at the window to take a peek at himself and make sure everything was in order. His red overcoat looked better than he would have expected considering the mileage he had accumulated wearing it over the years. Some small sweat stains marked the white undershirt he was wearing no doubt perspiration from the hot sunny day it was. But, looking down his smile faltered, one of his boots had untied, the boot to be more precise.

He didn't blame himself for not realizing because unlike his other foot, he couldn't feel it coming undone. That was one of the things that came with having a metal prosthetic in place of your right foot, no skin or nerves to tell you anything was wrong.

Despite the phantom pains having stopped he would probably need quite a while for himself to truly adjust to the new "shoe".

When he glanced back, the crowd of future-to-be-students had left and he now found himself alone in the courtyard. "Well shit, that's what I get for being an Adonis I guess".

Anxiously Roy looked around the area looking for any clues that would lead him to the orientation hall, or even a person to get directions from.

All of a sudden a tremendous boom rang out from back at the drop off area followed by tremors rattling off from the same direction. What the hell was that Roy wondered.

As he quickly made his way back to the docking area the scene he had stumbled upon was that of two little girls fighting which he could only piece together as an argument about the previous explosion. He deduced that quickly because of the crater that currently occupied the center of the pathway.

He refocused his attention on the two girls squabbling in front of him. One was dressed in what he could only describe as a gothic little red riding hood outfit, she was quite pale and had dark brownish hair with crimson tips. What struck him the most is how young she looked. Roy wasn't one to assume, but she certainly didn't look old enough to be here.

Her screaming counterpart was dressed in money, not literally, but Roy could recognize the expensiveness of her attire and the generally haughty attitude she seemed to carry herself with. The stark white hair she possessed nagged at him, he felt had seen that somewhere he just couldn't place it though.

Not long after a mysterious looking dark haired girl dressed in black joined the fray, who seemingly enraged the white girl enough to get her to leave and then promptly left the red girl in the crater alone by herself.

Roy weighed his options on who to ask for directions, before sprinting after the girl in black. "Hey," "You there!," Roy shouted as he chased after her.

She turned around and instinctively reached for her weapon before she seemed to hesitate and stop. Her amber eyes narrowed though as she responded, "What"?

"Hello there…?" Roy drawled, stopping to hope that she would introduce herself.

"Blake" she responded curtly.

"Right Blake, the names Roy, Roy Rogers. I was wondering if you could lead me to orientation, I'm a little new here and could use some help getting around right now." Roy pleaded.

She seemed to visibly relax at this admission and the tension in her voice disappeared as she said, "Don't worry that's quite an easy request to fulfill just follow me".

The boy she was leading to the auditorium seemed normal enough, Blake thought. For a second she had worried that someone had already recognized her as an ex-white fang not even an hour into her stay at Beacon.

Looking back at him, he seemed to be enraptured by his surroundings, she couldn't blame him. It would take a while for the beauty of this place to lose its luster as it faded to normality. However, she chose to seize the moment while he was distracted to observe him more thoroughly.

He had black hair like herself, but was considerably more tan with rough skin that looked weathered under the sun. He held himself confidently and had a peculiar pep in his step. He was of average height, wearing average clothing, and even his brown eyes seemed extraordinarily normal.

Those brown eyes that seemed to be staring right back at her because... well they were. Her face started to heat up now that she had realized she'd been caught staring. He too seemed a little uncomfortable and was squirming a little bit under her gaze.

"I-Is something wrong?" He questioned.

"No Nothing, Nothing is wrong" Blake stated before whipping her head away.

Shortly after they seemed to reach their destination. Blake said her goodbyes and Roy gave her his thanks before they separated, intermingling among the student body already here in the auditorium.

Let's find a nice quiet corner to be by myself, she thought to herself. She'd already interacted with too many people today, the SDC heiress among them.

Totally not because she didn't want people's prying eyes to see the contents of the book she was reading. Definitely other reasons.

The auditorium was loud and chaotic as people were introducing each other in early attempts to set up a social network. So much so that Roy felt like he was missing out on some rising stock on the market.

He searched around looking for the perfect candidates to talk to.

He immediately recognized Pyrrha Nikos, The Champion, the Invincible Girl, the poster girl of the cereal he ate every morning at home in Vale. She was a little out of his league and probably wouldn't want to talk to nobody like him.

He saw the blonde bombshell from earlier hanging out with little red riding hood, they were conserversing already.

Oh gods was he so far behind on getting to know people. No that can't be, perhaps they knew each other already?

He contemplated going over and introducing himself but really, going over to two borderline supermodels, it practically screamed pervert. Nobody would ever want to talk to him after he got stuck with that stereotype.

Finally his eyes landed on a suitable target. A short boy with fiery ginger hair and dressed in what looked like some Vacuoan style travel clothes.

"Hi there," Roy said as he waltzed over to the area the boy was sitting at.

The boy glanced up to him with big orange eyes that seemed to radiate like fire.

"Ahh hello there" He answered back in a localized Vacuoan accent.

"The name is Roy Rogers. Do you mind if I take a seat and leave my stuff here?" Roy asked.

"Louie Vermillion, but you can just call me Louie and yes that's fine by me. I'd been hoping that I could get someone to talk to here." The boy returned with a smile. Showing off what seemed to be a single fang in his maw.

"Oh you're a faunus?" Roy absent mindedly stated. Before reddening "N-Not that there's anything wrong with that!". "I just haven't met many faunus before." He continued to descend more into gibberish as he tried desperately to right himself.

"Hahaha" Louie chuckled at the floundering mess in front of him before wiping off an imaginary tar from his eye. "Don't worry I could tell you didn't mean anything by it, yes I'm a lizard faunus hard to tell until I smile I suppose."

With that the two began to get to know each other. Louie was the son of a traveling merchant in Vacuo who had come to Beacon to study because he wanted to get away from his hometown and see the world.

Roy explained that unlike Louie he was born here in Vale, and wanted to become a huntsman to just help his parents by way of the high paying huntsman salary and its benefits.

This information exchange was carried on for a little while longer before the Headmaster reached the stage and introduced himself. Afterwards after his speech left a weird feeling in Roy's stomach, was every orientation speech supposed to be that ominous or gloomy?

They were briefed by the scary lady with the riding crop that they'd be spending the night here and needed to get dressed into sleepwear if you had it. Now having a couple hundred boys and girls in the same room was already getting the hormones flying. Now add a skin show to it and Roy was confident some students would try sneaking off for extracurricular activities.

It didn't help his own predicament that every girl here seemed to be incredibly beautiful. Seriously you could've convinced him that everyone here was part of some modeling agency. The farthest he'd gone with a girl was hand holding. If he starred in the wrong direction for too long he might start pitching a tent!

His new friend Louie didn't have such problems; his eyes seemed to be memorizing every curve and blemish in the area.

"Hey quit that out" Roy delivered an elbow to his ribcage in an effort to snap him out of his trance.

"No it is a man's right to look at whatever he pleases" He seemed to recite some unwritten cold in a low baritone voice.

"Maybe, but those people you're looking at have trained their whole lives to be living weapons and some could probably kick your ass." Louie flinched at Roys words before returning his gaze to a more appropriate spot. It was just in time as well because they jumped at the sudden inclusion of a voice.

"Pardon me gentlemen. May I inquire as to what you are doing" A boy had snuck up behind them during their… research of the other gender. Roy turned to face the source of the voice. Its owner was a tall boy with brown hair and yellow eyes; he was dressed in expensive looking silk pajamas.

"Scanning for danger" Louie blurted out. His face was turning to a color not unlike his ginger hair.

"Danger?" The newcomer seemed to frown and cross his eyebrows. Obviously confused with the answer.

"Y-Yes danger! I wouldn't put it past the Beacon staff to have something to surprise test us here on our first night. Perhaps release a grimm in here and see how we fare?" Roy quickly spewed in a desperate attempt to cover their actions. It was a painfully obvious lie that no one would ever believe because I mean who would ever do such a thing like that.

"Rrriight" He didn't seem super convinced but it look liked he wasn't going to push the issue at least. A small win but a welcome one.

"Well since I'm here now, the title is Arthur Tudor, pleasure to make your acquaintance mister…?"

"Rogers! Roy Rogers and this is Louie Vermillion." Roy gestured to his side Louie who had recovered from nearly being caught peeping and was offering his hand to Arthur. "What brings you here?"

"I felt it my duty to inform the other students that curfew is nearly upon us and that they should be dressed if possible for sleep." Arthur politely informed.

Who died and put you in charge Roy wanted to ask, but bit his tongue making conflict on his first day wouldn't be a good idea, even if chances were slim that he and this guy would be on the same team. Something he still hadn't the slightest clue as to how it would go about.

"Hey Arthur you seem like a pretty knowledgeable guy, any idea how teams and partners are going to be formed" piped up Louie.

"Even if I knew such information it wouldn't be my place to spread it" Arthur responded justly.

"Of course," Roy muttered quietly.

"Hmm what was that?" Arthur asked.

"O-Oh of course you wouldn't do that, that wouldn't be what the teachers want." Roy hastily replied.

"Precisely, well gentlemen I must be off to slumber, I bid thee a goodnight." Arthur with those parting words wandered away.

"And to thee as well" Louie mockingly bowed when Arthur had turned his back. Rising a snicker out of Roy and a couple of the other students in the general area.

With that the lights went out a half hour later and Roy laid down staring at the high ceilings. I really did it. I'm on my way to becoming a Huntsman. Maybe this would be pretty easy after all.

As Roy was about to gently pass on to the realm of sleep there was immediately loud bickering throughout the night with voices Roy recognized as the nice girl Blake from earlier, the little red girl, and the white princess-like girl.

Then again maybe I spoke too soon.

Well that concludes Chapter one of the Average Joes, next chapter you'll be introduced to what I plan to be the last OC and they'll also go through initiation. As this is my first story I'd very much appreciate any reviews or criticism you have because it lets me know how the story is being perceived.
