In all the busyness around me, I really needed to do something for myself and started watching Ranma again.
This series just continues to be really fun just that ending... So much more could have been taken out of the series.
Therefore, I am writing my version after the series and I hope I can please you with it.
Nerima. A district in the city of Tokyo. A neighborhood where daily life moved quietly along with the rhythm of the day.
At first glance you may say that there is nothing to notice about this neighborhood.
But nothing could be further from the truth when a young man walks on the fence next to the river.
With his red Chinese shirt, Ranma is well known in the neighborhood. The martial artist had held several fights in this region.
And not only that, he had several fiancées. Well, several...
Kuno Kodachi wasn't someone he wanted to get close to, if she had the chance, Kodachi would poison anyone who came near Ranma.
Also she claimed herself as fiancée to him. So no thanks.
Then there was Shampoo. A Chinese Amazon. Ranma's third fiancée by Amazonian law. A beautiful girl and a good figure.
The martial arts were also well represented at Shampoo. But how dominant Shampoo was.
Everything had to go through her and the Amazon rules, namely the many attempts Shampoo had made to get Ranma to marry her...
No, it wasn't that for Ranma either. No thanks.
His second fiancée that his father had assigned to Ranma for a dinner. Kuonji Ukyo was a chef and childhood friend of Ranma.
A girl who could look nice if she put her mind to it. Ranma used to think Ukyo was a boy until he found out it was his second fiancée.
Not really something Ranma was looking forward to. No, Ukyo was more like a sister to him.
And then his first fiancée and the one he told his feelings to at the end of the fight with Saffron. Tendo Akane.
He loved Akane. And there came the problem. When their parents organized the wedding, Ranma had hoped that it would go well, but everything really went wrong.
And after 2 months, not much had changed except the fact that Akane wasn't fully fit yet.
She trained every day to build up her fitness, improve her techniques and become faster.
Ranma watched from a distance as she trained, alone or sometimes with her father.
Akane did everything she could to get back to her level for Saffron's fight.
Ranma arrived at the Tendo house and walked inside towards the living room where he met Mr. Tendo, his father and Nabiki.
Ranma sat down on the floor and looked out into the garden as he unbuttoned and folded his Chinese blouse.
Then Ranma took off his shirt and folded it neatly as well. Afterwards, Ranma walked into the garden and began to warm himself up before training.
Nabiki came to see her future brother-in-law. Her sister would get a good husband, provided those two weren't so stubborn.
Even though Nabiki knew Ranma loved Akane.
Nabiki had hoped a month ago that Akane had told Ranma that she loved Ranma for his 17th birthday.
But no, she made him a birthday cake instead. And everyone knew Akane was a disaster in the kitchen.
Ranma didn't know what to do as his parents urged him to take a bite. Especially his mother because she said Akane had tried so hard.
Ranma prepared himself and looked at the cake as Akane cut a piece for him and gave it to Ranma.
Ranma grabbed his fork and poked a piece out and carefully took a bite. And to his surprise, it was tasty too.
Akane was so happy when he said that that she hugged him briefly and then cut several pieces for the other family members.
"Ranma-kun, do you already know what you're going to get Akane for her birthday?" Nabiki suddenly asked.
Ranma tripped over his own feet and looked at Nabiki in confusion.
"When is her birthday?" he asked. Ranma was just really bad at this kind of thing.
'' In 2 days. I'm hoping for something great since you love her.'' Nabiki said with a grin.
Ranma blushed and mumbled something as he started a kata. Nabiki started to smile, this was always fun to do.
Kasumi and Nodoka walked in with dinner.
''Ranma, welcome back.'' Nodaka said. "Thank you Ofukuro." Ranma said in concentration.
Nodaka looked at her son who was oh so manly. Despite the curse on him, her husband Genma had taught him well in the martial arts.
Akane walked over with P-chan in her arms and saw Ranma training in the garden.
Her fiancé who would do anything for her, the man who loved her. And she loved him, but she couldn't tell him, not yet.
She wanted to get back to her old self before she could tell him.
''Ranma! Are you coming to eat?'' Kasumi shouted and everyone sat at the table.
Ranma began to eat his rice quietly and was quiet at the table.
Akane sat next to him and occasionally gave P-chan some food. '' Ryoga... pig that you are...'' Ranma thought jealously.
''Akane-chan, what do you want for your birthday?'' Nodaka asked and Akane thought.
"Maybe you want to go shopping for clothes?" Akane asked and Nodaka smiled. ''With all my love, child.''
"Ranma, do you have a gift for Akane yet?" Nabiki asked with a grin that everyone already knew she was going to give Ranma a hard time.
Even Ryoga grinned and accepted some food from Akane.
Ranma saw Ryoga's grin in a way that Ryoga didn't notice. Why was things always made difficult for him?
"Yes, I have a gift for Akane." Ranma said as he put down his chopsticks and took a sip of his miso soup.
Akane looked at Ranma in surprise. Ryoga made a little pig noise in disbelief. Ranma's gift couldn't be better than his.
Ryoga had bought Akane a stuffed animal.
Ranma saw Akane's face, an expression that she wanted to know what the gift was. It was something that had been on Ranma's mind for a while. ''Looks like you want to know what it is.'' Ranma said and Akane quickly looked back at her food and took a bite.
''Of course I want to know, baka.'' she muttered.
''Tomboy…'' Ranma said and noticed he got a glare that made him feel warm. ''...my gift to you is that I will train with you every day.''
Ranma wanted to make Akane stronger than she had ever been. So that she could easily handle Ukyo, Kodachi and Shampoo if the need arose.
There was a moment of silence before Akane answered him in surprise, "Really?" You're going to train me?'' she asked happily.
'' Yes. Tomorrow morning at 5am at the dojo.'' Ranma said. Akane was so happy. She thanked him and smiled broadly at P-chan, who in turn had to let it sink in.
Ranma finished his dinner and thanked the meal. He neatly stacked the bowls on his plate and before he stood up he lightly placed his lips on Akane's cheek out of nowhere and then walked away to the kitchen. It was a light kiss on her cheek.
Soun dropped his chopsticks, Genma dropped his food, Kasumi and Nodoka clapped their hands to their mouths and Nabiki looked at Akane who slowly ran her hand over her cheek as her cheeks flushed. After Soun made it clear that Ranma and Akane had to get their love lives in order first, the kiss came as a surprise.
''Sometimes I don't understand our son.'' Genma said as he adjusted his glasses. Ryoga was annoyed that Ranma took advantage of the situation and just intimately touched Akane. Nodoka, in contrast to Ranma, is very masculine. But it was Nabiki who pointed something out to the family.
''Ranma isn't himself after the failed wedding.'' Nabiki said and everyone looked at her. ''What do you mean by that, Nabiki?'' Kasumi asked.
''Ranma is not himself. He often sits on the roof at night staring at the sky.'' Nabiki said.
Kasumi looked at Akane. "Do you know something, Akane-chan?"
''No, but it is noticeable that he is quieter than usual.'' Akane said with a sigh. P-chan looked at Akane with concern.
''Ranma-kun might have a little too much on his mind.'' Nabiki said and everyone agreed.
At night when everyone is sleeping, Akane is still awake staring at the ceiling. P-chan was lying on a pillow next to Akane, snoring softly.
Akane couldn't sleep and got up to go drink in the kitchen.
As she walks past Ranma's room, Akane hears a strange noise. Panting and moaning. That pervert!
Akane quietly opens the door. She would have preferred to storm in, but Nodoka had asked Akane and Ranma to stop making noise with their arguing at night.
When Akane opens the door, she is surprised to see that Ranma is dreaming. She goes into his room and quietly closes his door.
She walks over to him and sits next to him and sees his face contort through the light of the moon.
" No, her eyes…" Ranma muttered. " Akane...stay with me..."
Akane looked concerned. Ranma had a nightmare and not just any one.
He was dreaming that Akane's eyes slowly closed during the fight with Saffron. Akane looks concerned.
So it had given more impact to Ranma than he ultimately let on. Akane noticed tears escaping from under his eyelashes.
Something in Akane's stomach turned.
Ranma tossed and turned in his futon, gripping the blanket with both hands as if he were holding someone.
''I love... you... Akane...'' Ranma mumbled in his sleep and Akane closed her eyes, a tear escaping. She stood up and quietly left his room.
Ranma woke up with a startle, his heart pounding in his throat, his body soaking wet with sweat and his face wet with tears.
A hunted feeling was high in his body. Ranma panted some more before throwing off his blanket and wiping his face.
He got up and left his room and walked towards the kitchen. He needed something to cool down.
He walked into the kitchen, grabbed a glass and filled it with water and took a few sips.
He turned around and leaned his back against the counter, staring at the floor.
Ranma turned into himself, into the moment of sadness and emptiness, the fear slowly taking over him as Akane lay in his arms.
Not knowing that in the dark part of the kitchen, Akane stood.
Akane had hidden herself to see who it was that came downstairs and saw Ranma.
That he also went for a drink, but that look he made. Akane then carefully walked over to Ranma and gently touched his cheek.
''Ranma?''
Ranma looked hollowly at Akane and came back to reality.
He saw Akane standing in front of him with a worried look and he said her name in shock. ''Akane...?''
''Can't you sleep?'' Akane asked. She didn't want to let Ranma know that she knew about his nightmares.
''No, it's quite warm and that for the autumn.'' Ranma said as lightly as possible. "And you, Akane?"
''Same, I had it warm.'' Akane replied as she looked at the clock on the oven. It was 4:20 am in the morning.
Maybe she could distract him and start training together sooner.
''Ranma, should we start early today? By training I mean?'''' Akane asked and she saw Ranma smile.
'' Fine. Come on, let's go to the dojo."
When Akane walked into the dojo in her gi, Ranma was already warming herself up. He himself stood in his usual pants and a white tank top.
Ranma looked at Akane and bowed to her. Akane did the same, the martial arts salute.
The warm-up consisted of light jogging, push-ups and abdominal exercises.
Then it was the turn of the katas.
Akane walked her form when Ranma observes her. He discovered that her knees were not standing properly and that her right foot sometimes deviated.
When Akane went to do the kata again, Ranma walked around her, correcting her or showing why it was important to keep her arm in that position.
After the session with the kata, they moved on to training techniques.
Ranma saw that she had mastered the techniques well, but a small correction was needed here and there.
A small break was taken and as Akane drank from her bottle of water, Ranma thought about how much force he would use while sparring.
Kuno-senpai was someone who could still fight Akane with ease. But who came after him? Mousse? Ukyo?
Mousse might be a klutz, but he was certainly stronger than Ukyo.
No…Kodachi seemed strong but everything came down to poison and weapons with Kodachi and may not have been strong but she was faster.
Ranma took Kodachi's experience in martial arts and decided to use it against Akane.
" I'm ready, Ranma." Akane said and Ranma looked at her.
"Okay. You can use anything against me." Ranma said.
Kasumi was preparing the table for breakfast. Soun was reading the newspaper and Nabiki was waiting for breakfast.
Nodoka gave Genma a warning to leave Ranma and Akane alone. Genma wanted to check if they were really training.
"Akane-chan!" Kasumi shouted in dismay.
Everyone looked and saw Akane walking in with a bloody hand, she had damaged the skin on her knuckles.
"Saotome-kun! Your son hurt my daughter!" Soun shouted angrily.
Before Genma could say anything, Ranma walked in with a first aid kit.
His cheek was a bit swollen and red with a half fist print in it.
Ranma could have avoided that punch, but he wanted to measure how strong Akane was and found out once Akane started training, she could get more out of herself.
"Ranma, I will get some ice." said Nodoka as she stood up.
Genma and Soun looked at each other and then back at Ranma and Akane.
Ranma had Akane's hand in his as he gently dabbed disinfectant on her skin. Nodoka returned with a bag of ice and placed it on the table.
Akane, her other hand free, grabbed the bag and placed it against Ranma's cheek. He gave her a small smile as he applied 2 small gauze pads.
It was a serene moment, a rare one. Soun felt silent hope. Of course he knew that Akane and Ranma loved each other, but the many admirers both had made it impossible for the two.
Nabiki who had been watching intently for a while as she wolfed down her breakfast, it was quite suspicious.
Ranma finished bandaging Akane's hand and they both started their breakfast.
P-chan aka Ryoga jumped on the table to beg for some food when he sees Akane's hand.
He makes some worried pig noises and Akane looked at him with a smile that warmed Ryoga's heart.
''Ooh Akane-san, angel of this earth. One day I will tell you how much I love you. But first...'' Ryoga thought and touched Akane's bandaged hand with his paw.
''P-chan! My hand is okay. I hit Ranma a little too hard.'' Akane said with a small smile on her face.
Ryoga looked at Ranma and saw a red slightly swollen spot on his cheek. Ryoga started laughing, small grunts coming from his mouth.
Ranma clenched his fist and glared at Ryoga.
''Do you have something to say, you walking pork chop that you are?'' Ranma responded irritated. Ryoga started growling at Ranma.
''Ranma, don't be mean to P-chan.'' Akane defended.
'' He started! When are you going to stop defending that beast?'' Ranma said angrily.
''He's my pet!'' Akane said angrily.
"You're my betrothed-... Never mind..." Ranma said angrily and stood up and walked towards the bathroom.
"What's bothering him again?" Akane asked angrily as she grabbed her bowl of rice.
When she takes a bite and looks up she sees everyone looking at her in surprise.
"What's wrong?" Akane asked annoyed.
"Sis, are you deaf or something?" Nabiki asked amused and Akane gave her a glare.
''Akane-chan, Ranma called you his betrothed, even though he didn't finish his sentence.'' Nodoka said. "That passion in his voice, what a man."
'' He loves you...Sis...'' Nabiki grinned. She loved teasing her little sister.
Akane hadn't heard that since she was defending P-chan. Her cheeks flushed.
After Akane had freshened up and she and Ranma had gotten their bentos, they walked to school.
"Ranma, today we need to write down what we want to do in the future." Akane said and Ranma let out a deep sigh.
" That's not for us, is it? A waste of time…" Ranma said, looking at Akane for her reaction.
"I don't know. I haven't decided yet." Akane said.
" Huuuh... You're considering going to college? Why-..."
*Trinngg trinnng! *
Before Ranma could turn around, Shampoo landed on Ranma's head, causing Ranma to slam onto the ground.
" Nihao Airen! Today's date with Shampoo, yes?" Shampoo asked in broken Japanese.
'' SHAMPOO! Use the road like everyone!'' shouted Ranma.
Ranma, climbing out from under the bike and standing up, sighed and looked uneasily at Shampoo.
" Shampoo... I don't have time. Come Akane." Ranma said but before he could walk any further, Shampoo was hanging around his neck.
"A date after school!" Shampoo said enthusiastically.
" No, Shampoo! I don't want to…" Ranma growled as he tried to break away.
"Ranma, come..." Shampoo said again as she pulled his arm.
Akane stood looking at Ranma and Shampoo. After the failed wedding, Akane and Ranma had had many conversations together.
Ranma had made it clear to Akane that she was the only one for him.
That Shampoo and Ukyo were friends to him but he didn't want to hit or kick them because they were girls.
That was something Ranma didn't do from the start, hitting girls. He thought that was dishonorable as a martial artist.
There's nothing more that Akane wanted to be with Ranma forever, but saying the 3 words to him... she couldn't do it yet, she didn't think she was strong enough yet. Nevertheless, she jumped between Ranma and Shampoo and released Ranma from Shampoo's grasp and stood in front of him and glared at Shampoo.
''Ranma is my fiancée.''
