Planet Simone

A brief history of the planet.

Planetary History and Political Affiliations

Simone, the name of both the System and its capital world, was founded by the Taurian Concordat during the height of the Star League as part of the Dumassas Union. A century before colonization, the planet had several small moons, before one was hit by a rogue planetoid, destroying the moon in question and leaving massive craters dotting the planet as several other moons were dragged out of orbit by the changing gravitational forces, leaving only one moon that the Taurians named Nia. These craters contained massive deposits of Rare Earth metals, which attracted many mining companies to set up shop on Simone. By the time of the Amaris Civil War, Simone accounted for almost 20% of the refined rare earths sold in the Dumassas Union, as well as massive quantities of more mundane metals.

During the Star League Era, the SLDF set up a storehouse capable of holding several regiments of combat vehicles, and the tens of thousands of tons of supplies for them, on Simone's moon, Nia. This storehouse would be used to resupply SLDF forces in the Taurian Concordat during the Periphery Uprising, then completely emptied when Commanding General Kerensky brokered a ceasefire with the rebels to take the fight to the Usurper Amaris.*

Simone enjoyed a short period of prosperity; however by the end of the Amaris Civil War, many of the spare parts for the power and water systems had been used up, with many companies resorting to reconditioning used parts to keep the lights on and water running. With the end of the Amaris Civil War, the outlook was hopeful for renewed imports from the Inner Sphere. When the First Succession War started in 2786, Simone's hopes were dashed. Companies started cannibalizing run down power and water treatment systems for spare parts. By the end of the First Succession War in 2821, rolling power outages and food/water shortages were constant.

The start of the Second Succession War in 2830 saw companies start pulling out of the system, taking their assets deeper into the Concordat. This pullout was noticed by nearby pirate gangs and Simone became a target for pirate raids throughout the Second Succession War. By 2870, six years after the end of the Second Succession War, the population of Simone was reduced to a few scattered underground settlements with an almost religious fear of the "metal beast men" that occasionally roamed the surface.

This is the last known report on the Planet.

Comstar made sure to double check, but what Comstar doesn't know is that the SLDF had a second smaller storehouse on the planet itself. While Kerensky took most of the best stuff, he did leave a few things.
