Taffy

Summary:
No, that could just be the sugar.
"How are they, chu?" Chisao kicked underneath him, gripping his knees.
"Chewy, Chisao-kun!" Kosuke was positively glowing, the old-timey candy sticking to his teeth.
Technically, the candy was available year-round. Kosuke merely had to splurge on the round trip to and from where it was sold, which wasn't happening on a kid's allowance. To pay for tickets, he'd be saving up for a decent chunk of his childhood, and even after that, he doubted he'd have the funds to pay.
Not everybody had a plane parked under their house they could order to fly by yelling at people to hurry up and sit down.
Not everybody was a Net Saviour with access to reduced airfare or military transport.
Brilliant. If Kosuke wanted to go anywhere, he either needed to walk or take his bike, meaning his world was pretty much limited to within Densan City limits.
Fortunately, Chisao's father worked in Amerope, and sent his sons care packages in the mail. Chisao received treats you could only get over there, including gumballs, jawbreakers, and the taffy currently in Kosuke's mouth.
Stretching it out with his tongue was akin to fighting through molasses. Kosuke had fun trying to jelly-roll the candy into thirds.
Because he lived with his grandfather, whose doctor advised Tensuke against sweets on account of his diabetes, Kosuke didn't eat a lot of sugar at home other than the occasional, more dated Japanese confection.
As such, the taffy was like Christmas in Kosuke's mouth (another export from Amerope Chisao taught Kosuke about, since Kosuke didn't celebrate Christmas).
Kosuke may not have had the money for a plane ticket to Amerope, but maybe he could treat Chisao to a classical Japanese snack with what savings he did have.
Chisao will like that for sure! He grinned. It's such a great idea, grinning hurts!
