Well this just came out of no where but i felt inspired to write this. Don't worry there's no graphic and explicit content and the content should be suitable for a T-rated fanfiction piece.
Without further ado, here's a oneshot of Pokemon SV DLC but this fic uses Violet version wig Florian as the protagonist instead of Juliana like my ongoing fic. Also i mainly focused on the narrative side but tried to to battle scenes as cohesively as i possibly could. The battling is a mix of anime and game style.
Enjoy!
The Wayward Desperado
Ever wonder why life and fate is kind to some people and overly cruel to others? Why must some that come into this world be gifted with talent beyond compare, whether it's physical capability, smarts, or even in specific things such as being a strong pokemon trainer, befriending any strong Pokemon you come across, or being so great at Pokemon battles you can basically win all the time with zero effort? On the opposite, why must some become so naturally inept, disinclined, untalented, and unversed in these same ways? Why must one particular person work half as hard for twice the dividends while another work twice as hard for half the dividends? Such is the cruel nature of this world in that it selects who gets to thrive in it and who can only ever experience hardship, pain and suffering by simply existing in, much less living in said world.
These were the thoughts that were now running through a teenage boy named Kieran, who happened to be defending his title against another 13 year old boy, an exchange student from a rival academy in the Paldea Region named Florian. This was the same boy Kieran and his sister met during the joint school field trip to their homeland of Kitakami. The one who dared to befriend him before utterly betraying his trust at the behest of his big sister. The one who at his own big sister's insistence, crushed his lifelong childhood dream of befriending and catching the Ogre he so idolized as a small child by catching it for himself, although it was clear by that point the ogre had chosen Florian to be it's trainer and not Kieran. This along with the fact Florian had bested him 7 times in a row during that field trip and everytime doing so with relative ease at that, made him feel indignation at being much too weak to do anything about the way he kept getting unfairly shafted, or how unfair it was that he was never going to be blessed with the fortunes the much stronger Florian had already been blessed with and continues to be blessed with, even now as they are having their most intense battle yet.
This time there was a bit more personally at stake than just some title. For Florian, the outcome and aftermath of this battle would determine not only the state of his friendship with the one he's now challenging for the title, but for the state of the league club which Kieran ruined in his dire involution to become stronger just so he can beat Florian as vindication for not only ruining his dream, but lying to him and befriending his big sister behind his back. Florian was pretty much only doing this not only for Kieran's own sake, but for his big sister Carmine as well whom even after his initial bad first impression of her, began to slowly develop feelings for her and even liked the idea of being her servant and using his Pokemon and skills as a trainer to do her bidding. Though truth be told, it was Drayton that put Florian up to this, though even though Carmine did express slight dejection at the proposition, she nevertheless allowed Florian to play along.
For Kieran however, it was not only to prove that he was right to be furious with his sister and her new 'friend' for betraying him by lying and doing things behind his back when it came to the ogre and for crushing his dream in the process of doing so, but to prove to the whole academy, to his Elite Four, to Florian, and most importantly, to his big sister that he was capable all on his own. To prove that he didn't need friends, much less siblings at all to get by, much less look after him. This was to prove that he didn't need to be coddled or treated as inferior. It was all about garnering validation and respect, whether for himself in his own mind or that of his peers. He basically wanted to prove that he deserved his own future, to be determined by him autonomously, not by his big sister or his grandparents, or his teachers or peers. He was going to be the true master of his own destiny and write his own story. He was going to be the hero, even if the hero he becomes would be the dark hero that triumphs as one single individual over all others.
The stakes were set and the battle had begun. It was a 6v6 doubles format as per the usual customs of the academy and it's league club. This time and for the first time ever, Kieran actually had THE Florian on the backpedal. After leading with Dragonite and Politoed, Kieran obliterated almost half of Florian's team consisting of Whimsicott and Indeedee before Politoed went down. Then out came Kieran's Porygon-Z which immediately obliterated Florian's 3rd Pokemon, Gliscor with a one shot Hyper Beam. Then afterwards came Florian's Dodonzo and Tatsugiri Combo which dealt with both Porygon-Z and Dragonite using Wave Crash and Blizzard respectively, though not before bringing Dodonzo down to size. Then it was tied, with Tatsugiri commanding Dodonzo from the inside against Incineroar and Grimmsnarl respectively. The battle was raging on and it was a nail biter to say the least.
As Carmine, looked on with her hands towards her chest with unabated concern and worry, both for her 'Kiki' and for her friend Florian knowing at least one of them will be hurt by he end of this, most assuredly mentally or emotionally rather than physically, though she hoped things wouldn't come to that, not that it should because proper sportsmanship is usually key to conducting oneself in these affairs. Affairs that they all partake in day in and day out one way or another.
After a brief exchange of looks, both dueling trainers exchanged a few pointed words before resuming this dire clash. After Kieran let out a frustrated growl, due to the momentum of the battle shifting slowly towards Florian after he had him on the ropes up til now.
"Kieran, listen, you don't have to prove anything. You were fine the way you were. You don't have to beat me to prove your strong, you don't even need to be strong all on your own. You don't need Ogerpon by your side to be it's friend. She's already your friend, your still my cute friend too. Please Kieran! Snap out of it!!" And Florian gave a somewhat heartfelt speech mid battle hoping to get through to the once shy, cute, and kind-hearted boy he met back in Kitakami. Kieran himself wasn't having any of it, too far in into his quest for vindication through involution and social detachment.
"Easy for you to say. You have everything going your way all the time. Not only are you strong as a trainer, but you can easily catch any Pokemon you want, everyone thinks your super awesome and cool, and you don't even have to try at all because it all comes to you naturally! While I had to scratch and claw my way up here to get to where I am now, sacrificing my own health, and well-being, let alone staying connected to any friends or family I have which isn't much compared to what you have!" Kieran vented with utter frustration at the deficit of fortunes between him and his opponent, making it obvious his motivations are born from envious frustrations.
"You know that's not 100% true. Just because everyone seems to think highly of me doesn't mean your worth any less. And if you really think I got here because of talent alone, your mistaken. Yeah you put in a lot of work in such a short time, but I had to put in just about as much work in almost a year to reach that same level. Yeah, maybe I have a more ideal support system than you do, but perhaps it's because your closing yourself off and pushing everyone who cares about you away. Instead, just let them help you and support you because all they wanted to do was to help you get past what's bothering you and help you grow and thrive, both as a person and a pokemon trainer!" Florian countered, not that Kieran was truly listening to what Florian had to say.
"FORGET THIS! NOT LIKE IT EVEN MATTERS WHO OR WHOM 'CARES' FOR ME!! I'll show you how much I've changed and how much better I am now than I was back then, then YOU and that DUMMY OVER THERE will be sorry you ever decided to betray ME!!" Kieran exclaimed with fury and rage while pointing towards Carmine, his elder sister who was the first one to suggest they lie to him about the Ogre, Kieran having heard enough, he decided to resume the battle in a derelict manner.
"Incineroar use Darkest Lariat!!" commanded Kieran while Florian was still trying to come up with a retort, catching him off guard.
The attack connected and just like that Dodonzo was finally down but then Tatsugiri emerged from it's mouth and then the opportunity came for a counter attack, and Florian was quick to respond to the turn of events, not so easily rattled by uncouth and untimely misfortunes in these high stakes pokemon battles.
"Tatsugiri use Hydro Pump on Incineroar!" Commanded Florian.
Just before the attack connected, Kieran was able to utilize Grimmsnarl's Prankster ability to execute a status move defensive response to the attack.
"Grimmsnarl quick use Light Screen!" Kieran commanded.
Grimmsnarl was able to successfully put up a barrier around it and Incineroar side of the field, but something went awry. Before the barrier move was fully executed, the Hydro Pump from Tatsugiri connected to Incineroar right in between it's legs, landing a nasty Critical Hit which had failed to be weakened by the wall of light that now covers Grimmsnarl and it's side of the field as Incineroar was downed from that hit alone.
Just like that Kieran was down to his last two and so was Florian. While part of Kieran hoped that Florian did bring...THAT pokemon, a bigger part of him hoped he did not. At this point Kieran began to lose his cool at the turn of events unfolding in this battle. He was SUPPOSED to be ahead in this battle and on the precipice of victory by now, but instead he was evenly matched with the rival that had outclassed him for so long and now, even though Kieran didn't want to admit it, the battle could possibly shift in Florian's favor given that their general trajectory of fortunes usually bode well for Florian and conversely bode disastrously for Kieran.
"Uhh a Critical Hit at a time like this!!! Are you FREAKIN SERIOUS!!! GRAAAAHHHH!! Kieran screamed in frustration, now completely losing his composure. As the onlookers, including the Elite Four and Carmine, watched on. Many expressed in various ways grief, nervousness, anxiety, and disapproval at the tension, the volatility, the rage and frustration fueled energy that put out nothing but an uncomfortable and unsettling vibe to this battle, now having gone beyond simply being a heated, ultra competitive championship bout. If his friend Nemona were here to witness this, she would be appalled that this was what this particular battle had come to. Battles are supposed to be about having fun and giving it your all. Not going beyond the boundaries of that and fighting for personal vendetta or retribution.
After a few moments after Kieran's minor breakdown, he composed himself after mentally encouraging himself as needed. 'Don't worry, I still got this, just gotta hang in there s little longer.'. After which he sent out his final pokemon, to battle alongside the Grimmsnarl that was still on the field. He sent out his champion team's champion level ace. The Pokemon that has been beside him since he first met it as his very first capture long ago.
"It's all up to you! Go Hydrapple!!" Kieran shouted while sending out his final partner. And from the Red and White Sphere emerged a 7 headed snake that that resided in a Caramel Apple which immediately let out a sweet scent that reduced Tatsugiri's mobility and evasiveness even more. Caramel Apple? Was that not his Dipplin whom Florian himself had battled before back in Kitakami? Florian couldn't believe it, He knew that Applin could evolve into one of two powerful dragon type Pokemon and then learned that it could evolve into a 3rd back in Kitakami. Never did he imagine that one of these three already strong Pokemon could evolve much further and yet here he was face to face with Kieran's ace, said by many in the Academy's league club to be undefeated since having evolved into that stage of evolution.
Florian knew what had to be done. So he prepared himself mentally for what was to come. After a few deep breaths, he took an all white sphere with red linings. Both Carmine from the spectator stands and Kieran from the opposite side of the field knew what this meant. While Carmine was elated to see that before the battle took place, Florian did what Carmine asked of him and saved Ogerpon as his last Pokemon, to use it to deliver the final blow against Kieran, Kieran himself however had a ghastly look on his face, and for the first time since this battle began, fear began to creep up his core. At this point no one can say for sure if Carmine is acting based on her concern for Kieran and his well being or if she's just being petty towards him again, could be a mix of both.
With a stylish under throw, Florian released his final pokemon. The one pokemon that triggered all this conflict and hard feelings in the first place. "Go Ogerpon!!!" Florian shouted as he released his final pokemon. And sure enough there it was, wearing it's signature teal mask and waving it's thorn covered cudgel.
Kieran was now feeling numb from the waist down, his legs beginning to turn into jelly. All he could do was voice his displeasure and indignation at this. "Of all the times you would do this. You bring out the Ogre AGAINST ME NOW!!!" Kieran exclaimed, though with less anger than he was trying to go for and more of the fear that he tried not to show. No one was buying it, at this point almost everyone watching would now notice that Kieran has lost it and that Florian would most likely win at this point. While Kieran was tired, slightly malnourished, overworked, angry, and now devoid of any mental clarity and composure he may have had left going into this battle, Florian was well rested, mentally and emotionally prepared, and calm, never even losing his composure once even after bitter words were exchanged and he himself was on the backpedal for almost the whole battle thus far.
It's down to each trainer's last two Pokemon in this well past heated bout with Florian's and Kieran's aces being Ogerpon and Hydrapple respectively. Kieran out of desperation decided to make the next move. "GRIMMSNARL USE SPIRIT BREAK ON TATSUGIRI!!!" Kieran roared in utter panic and urgency, pretty much feeling he had to retake control and momentum now before it's too late. Oh how Florian planned for that though and it was easy to read Kieran's train of thought and he knew how Kieran would try and retake the lead and planned accordingly.
"Tatsugiri use Protect!" Florian commanded gracefully.
And just like that, the close range super-effective attack against Tatsugiri was blocked and Kieran's plan was foiled yet again and he further slipped into hubris, further attempting to maladapt to a bad call with further bad calls while Florian was setting up Ogerpon to be the one to score the last two knockouts.
"Ogerpon use Focus Energy!" Florian commanded, at which Ogerpon focused it's efforts on locating and nailing the weakest parts of their opponent's bodies to inflict the maximum amount of hurt and pain.
"Good going Florian, now as for that Apple Snake's Weakspot, it's located in the underside of it's apple shell. Nail it hard for a juicy One Hit KO!!" Carmine abruptly shouted.
Beyond annoyed at this in his current state of frustration and aggravation, Kieran screams wildly at his so called 'big sister' to and in no uncertain terms to..."SHUT IT SIS, YOU BIG FREAKIN DUMMY AND KEEP OUT OF THIS IF YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT'S GOOD FOR YOU!!!!" Kieran roared with fury not giving a single damn about talking to his sister that way. Florian would have been livid at this if truth be told, but he couldn't afford to right now, he had to maintain poise and clarity to try and win this battle, for himself, for him, for them, and for HER.
Not long after Kieran's angry outburst, Drayton the Dragon type Elite Four of the BB League watching this battle unfold with the rest of the BB Elite Four calmly replied with a warning to the section where Carmine was watching. "Quiet in the peanut gallery yo!" at which Carmine visibly shook and gritted her teeth in response while muttering under her breath a 'OK fine, you stupid Bozo' before returning to watch the battle.
Then afterwards Kieran commanded his Hydrapple to attack Ogerpon, adapting better to the situation for the time being but still prone to getting himself outplayed. "Hydrapple use Gyro Ball on Ogerpon!!" Kieran issued his next attack.
Slowly at first but then gaining spin momentum before rocketing towards the ogre, Hydrapple slammed into the Teal Mask of Ogerpon, causing it to stagger backwards but not take too much damage.
Florian now decided to put his attack plan into motion and issued his next attack. "Ogerpon use Ivy Cudgel on Grimmsnarl!" He commanded.
Quick to respond and with Light Screen still up he used the same ability of Grimmsnarl's to set up his next defense, one that should in theory reduce the damage taken from the incoming melee attack. "Grimmsnarl use Reflect!" Kieran directed towards Grimmsnarl before it took the attack and it was able to fully put up the barrier in quick fashion before Ogerpon, despite it's quick movement speed, could close the gap enough to swing it's cudgel at it. Yet the very force of Ogerpon's Ivy Cudgel broke through the barrier, although it failed to completely shatter it, and nailed Grimmsnarl right in between it's legs, causing it to seize up right then and there before falling down, defeated just like that.
And just like that Florian finally took the lead and was on track to deliver the blow that will end this. Kieran was now in shock, displaying none of his bravado or edginess coming into this battle, now all he could truly show was how scared he was...not only at losing a battle he should have won by now but having done so in the most embarrassing fashion, losing to the very ogre he himself lost out on thanks to the trainer commanding it now as well as the dumb idiot of a sister that kept encouraging him.
Silence filled the battle court, and it was so silent a pin could easily be heard dropping to the floor if it were so. Soon murmurs began rumming through the crowd. Some spectators can be heard saying. 'Yo this is nuts.' and 'He ain't moving, he too scared now.' and 'You think he's given up now?', and 'Man never thought I'd see Kieran of all people lose, especially to an outsider.' amongst many others. Not that the Elite Four didn't have little to say at this as well.
"Well now...we can chalk up the Drayster 's genius plan as a rousing success." Drayton lazily chimed while stretching his arms out.
"Ughhh, Drayton, you think this hasn't gotten out of hand already? I mean c'mon, I don't think that even if Kieran loses the club goes back to normal straight away. We have to get it back to that point! And what of Kieran? He's so out of it now just look at him! Poor guy." Lacey the Fairy-type Elite Four retorted.
Drayton simply responds with; "I'm sure we can think of a solution to all that when we get to crossing that bridge." Drayton finished before Amarys, the stoic Steel-type Elite Four specialist spoke up.
"I'd be more concerned of the ramifications of this battle's outcome and it's particular aftermath if I were any of you . Especially as it relates to Kieran's health and well-being." Amarys weighed in on the unfurling situation.
Crispin, the Fire-type Elite Four and the weakest one then spoke with anxious excitement. "Man oh man, this is getting real tense and suspenseful. I can hardly take it anymore!!" Crispin exclaimed.
"Calm down Crispy, soon this will all be over. Imagine how Florian must feel having no choice but to embarrass his friend like this." Drayton replied.
Meanwhile where Carmine was...all she could say was..."...Oh Kiki..." In a solemn manner while looking at him still in a trance, struck with paralyzing fear and a new sense of weakness that is eating at him harder than ever before.
Meanwhile back in the field, Florian tried to talk Kieran out of it yet again. "Kieran you okay buddy?" And no response..."It's okay, you did your absolute best, we both did and despite all these negative feelings you've been having, it's been a really great battle and one of the toughest I've ever been in. You have so much to be proud of...so please, just LET IT GO!!"
After a few seconds Kieran, in a voice so low and raspy finally responded in a loop as if he were a broken record playing. "No...I must win...must win...must..win...win...win..." And as he repeated the word 'win' several more times, Florian had no choice, he was going to have to go all the way.
"Sorry Kieran but I have to win this...for YOU, for your sake and for the sake of those that love you to death!" Florian responded with emotion and feelings, feelings for Kieran, for Carmine, for his own feelings, and the bad feelings between him, Ogerpon, Carmine, and Kieran that must be resolved so they can once again all be good friends.
Kieran kept repeating what he said earlier, only now in a vocal crescendo which culminated in him busting out a Tera Orb to Terastalize his Hydrapple into a Fighting-Tera Type pokemon. In response, Florian used his own Tera Orb to Terastalize Ogerpon, allowing it's Embody Aspect ability to increase it's speed and mobility and gaining the Grass Tera-type to augment it's original Grass-typing, thus making Ogerpon's Ivy Cudgel even deadlier. Kieran didn't realize that he just screwed up by turning a Grass/Dragon type, a typing that dual resists the dangerous grass type signature move, into a Fighting-Tera Type which doesn't resist the attack at all and given that particular move's penchant for dealing massive critical blows, it seems even Reflect will be useless against it.
After they both Terastalize their respective Pokemon, Kieran immediately decides to go on the attack. "Use Fickle Beam on Tatsugiri!!" Kieran commanded with fury and desperation.
"Quick Tatsugiri, use Dragon Pulse." Florian countered.
Both attacks connected but Light Screen reduced the damage of Tatsugiri's Dragon type energy blast in half and it was further reduced in half by the fact it was no longer super effective on Hydrapple. Whilst Fickle Beam, even this one which wasn't fully powered, was still super-effective and just like that Tatsugiri too was no longer able to continue battling.
After a series of further clashes and dodges between the last remaining two combatants after each trainer issued several commands, at last came what would be the final moments of this battle and Florian was all to happy to finally do this and finish it once and for all.
"Quick Hydrapple's guard is down! Ogerpon, aim your Ivy Cudgel to it's underside and smack it with a hard Low Blow." Florian commanded, much to the gleeful approval of Carmine. And soon enough Hydrapple was nailed right in it's weakspot, made easier due to the effects of Focus Energy allowing Ogerpon to pinpoint the target area with precision and ease and due to Ivy Cudgel's penchant for nailing Critical Hits compared to most other attacks. Hydrapple was sent skidding halfway across the field towards Kieran but stopped short of him. At seeing this Kieran froze in fear once more, but somehow managed to shake it off when he realized that somehow Hydrapple withstood the hit and still was able to keep going.
"Hydrapple use Tera Blast!" Kieran commanded. And Hydrapple launched a blast of pure Fighting-type tera energy which connected onto Ogrepon but it managed to brace itself using it's Terastalized mask and Cudgel before moving towards Hydrapple at blazing speed before Florian decided to end this battle with one more critical hit.
"Ogerpon, finish it with Ivy Cudgel." Florian commanded.
Kieran in frantic haste now, commanded his pokemon in random fashion, calling out random attacks and this time he somehow chose the right one for this situation. "USE GYRO BALL!!! Kieran roared in desperation to simply stay in the match.
As Ogrepon closed in with it's tera powered cudgel, Hydrapple began spinning faster than ever and just before Ogerpon's attack could connect, it was intercepted at an angle where Hydrapple's Gyro Ball's trajectory was heading for and thus somehow, the attack aimed at Hydrapple's weakspot was deflected and misfired as a result.
At this Kieran commanded his next move. Use Fickle Beam!!" And this time...the move had waned but rather than risk the damage, Florian simply commanded. "Use Spiky Shield!".
And Fickle Beam was nullified upon clashing with the thorny wall Ogerpon conjured. At this Kieran decided to repeat the attack pattern hoping to close the distance between Hydrapple and Ogerpon for a massive counterattack if he is able to stagger Ogerpon long enough, barely even remembering that protection based moves often fail if used in quick succession.
"Use Gyro Ball, this time get in close!!" Kieran commanded. And there it was... another bad move and one that would for sure cost him the match, correct? As Hydrapple was spinning like a top and quickly rocketing towards Ogerpon. Florian made quite possibly, the last move of the battle.
"Wait for it to get close then trip it up with Low Kick then use another to deliver the final Low Blow to end this battle." Florian commanded, hoping this would be it.
And sure enough when Hydrapple came close enough, Ogerpon executed a series of Low Kick's, the first tripping up Hydrapple and stopping it's spin by lobbing it in the air while the second connected with it's sweet spot with a sickening crunch as Hydrapple was launched even further into the air and came crashing back down on Kieran's side of the field. And at that moment the Tera Jewel shattered completely on Hydrapple. And just like that... everyone knew what this usually meant...it usually meant the battle was over and the Pokemon could no longer continue.
At this Kieran seized up, now incoherent. "...wait what?..." Was all he could say as fear and realization creeped in and at this, he would then pee himself, having been completely overwhelmed. Yet while everyone was still processing this, Kieran was internally with his eyes closed, truly wishing this battle was not yet over, that Hydrapple still hadn't fallen. And at that moment he mustered with all his might and roared with tears in his eyes. "HYDRAPPLE!!!!! PLEASE GET UP!!! PLEASE!!!" In a rather disheartening tone.
Just when the result was about to be declared, Hydrapple by all miracles, somehow managed to get back up and still go, albeit completely injured and exhausted. Whilst Ogerpon was somewhat exhausted but took only moderate damage. The spectators, who just a few seconds ago were processing an upset occuring, now are processing how Hydrapple who was thought to have been beaten, was somehow still in this. That it somehow dug down deep and managed to persevere even after the hard blow to it's sweet spot. The spectators are whispering and murmuring once more. Either 'this stubborn kid refuses to lose!' and 'It doesn't look like it'll come back from this.' and 'no way Kieran wins this.' and most jeering at him remarking 'wow he peed himself!!' while snickering. Some, like Carmine, thought it was cute that Florian made her kid brother pee himself. Others simply just became appalled at the way Kieran was continuing to shamelessly unravel into a harsh downward spiral.
Florian noted the state of his opponent now and knew that no matter what Kieran tried to do from here on, he had all but already lost. Hydrapple was still teetering on the edge of being unconscious while Ogrepon was still running on stamina not yet snuffed out and ready to deliver what will 100,000% be the final blow of the fight. And deep down, he knew Kieran knew this as well. So Florian tried to convince Kieran once again to accept defeat and surrender for the sake of his Pokemon.
"Kieran! Please, it's been a good battle but Hydrapple is all but finished, yes it heeded your cries of desperation and is trying it's best to still fight for you until the bitter end, but it can't take another hit like the last one...see I promised your sister that Ogerpon would finish off your last Pokemon with a critical hit, and I intend to keep that promise. For some reason she wants to see you fall real hard and I don't know why, but I know that she cares deeply for you, and so given her previous track record, I'll still put my faith in her to try and help you the best I can. But if you surrender now, we can spare it from getting hurt any further. Please you gotta listen to me for once Kieran! I know what me and your sister did to you back at the festival some months ago was wrong, and we are doing our best to set things right with you, but you gotta give us a chance and let us help you!! Do the right thing please!!!" Florian gave Kieran a very long winded speech, hoping it would snap Kieran out of it and he would finally see clarity and sense.
Now all Kieran could do is stand there listening to those words ring in his ears distortedly as he was struck with a paralysis of fear, indecisiveness, and conflicting thoughts. And he thought back to how he and Florian were paired up back then during the field trip and how he gradually warmed up to him and how they became friends. However, but then he thought about how his sister Carmine snatched Florian away from him, then made Florian lie to him while both had met the ogre behind his back, how his sister Carmine easily befriended Florian who was supposed to be his friend despite their rocky start, and they went and spent all that time together with the ogre and how happy it was with them. Then he thought about how that all led up to Ogerpon choosing Florian over himself, even though he went out of his way to make sure everyone in the village knew of the real story and how Ogerpon was mistreated. How his sister Carmine basically urged Florian to catch Ogerpon and crush his dream of being the ogre's partner. Never even mind the fact that he could never hold a candle to Florian no matter how hard he tried, Florian would always wipe the floor with him and each defeat etched into Kieran a sense of struggling with his weakness as a pokemon trainer.
After these thoughts ran through his head, a brief moment of clarity hit him. Kieran knew that he eventually had to get over the fact he could not have Ogerpon for himself and that Florian will always be the better trainer of the two. Yet he knew deep in his heart, that in order for him to do so, he has to win, just this once, then finally, he could let everything go and move on. Move on from Florian, move on from Ogerpon, move on from his Sister, move on from the League Club and it's top Four, and move on from all the woes that plagued him since being forced to enroll in Blueberry Academy. At this point a sense of desperation overrode all fear he had felt and all he could feel was resolve unfettered and unhinged welling up in his very torn soul. He knew what he had to do. His callous demeanor came back and now he decided to put it into action.
"I see now that I know what I must do...even if I must risk it all and lose this battle, so be it but I'll do it 128% on MY terms!" Kieran exclaimed with a bitter tone as he stepped toward towards Hydrapple who was close to him on their side of the field. As Hydrapple, still exhausted and hurt still stood there, Kieran stood with legs spread in an arch directly behind his Hydrapple and arms outstretched as everyone spectating looked on with baited breath. "Hydrapple, you have done so much for me in this battle and for that I thank you and im sorry that I've pushed you this far. For now all I ask is that you follow my directives without question until the very end." At this Hydrapple nodded, still ever weary.
"So what's it gonna be Kieran...going out of this my way, or your sister's way?" Florian asked once more.
"Like I said before, I'm going out on my terms win or lose. And while we can admit when we are beat, we won't surrender as that option is for the WEAK! And I err no WE are not WEAK!!!" Kieran said with resolve and emotion before finishing his vague proposition. "So go ahead and deal the final blow if it'll make my dear sister happy. If it'll put an end to all this, at this point I no longer care! Just be careful that you and your GIRLFRIEND is making the right choice, as if you two ever made the right choices before. Because if not, you may just hurt me...YET AGAIN... though this time I have a feeling it's gonna affect the both of you just as bad if not worse!" Kieran said with a wicked smile on his face that said 'im an unhinged psychopath!'.
The people watching, especially the Blueberry Elite Four began to feel unease and anxiety creep up like never before. Something was up they could feel it. Even Florian knew something was afoot with Kieran's gambit, like even after emotionally pleading with his number 1 partner to get up and remain standing, only to just give your opponent the final attack without putting up any resistance, is rather dubious. Yet perhaps maybe some of what Florian said to Kieran finally got through, but it wasn't enough so Florian knew what had to be done.
In the hardest move he ever had to make, Florian issued his final command to Ogerpon. "Sorry Kieran but this ends now and I never back down from anything! Ogerpon end this with a low blow using Ivy Cudgel!!" Florian commanded, at which Kieran smiled wickedly as yes, someone indeed will receive a hard blow to their sweet spot. But as the onlookers watched it all go down. Some in the back seats from Florian's side of the Field and some in the front seats from Kieran's side of the field caught the trajectory of the attack and noticed how the intended target, Kieran's Hydrapple was close to Kieran and how Kieran positioned himself directly behind said Hydrapple. Hydrapple's Apple Shell was actually small enough to roll under between Kieran's legs so, many of them that caught this as Ogerpon, still in her Terastalized state, began moving to close the gap between her and her target or shall we say targets, though only one of them is the intended one.
While Carmine and the Elite Four as well as Florian were befuddled at Kieran's antics, quickly these eagle eyed spectators that caught wind of his gambit were quick to voice their heads up. "NO IT'S A TRAP!!"/"Call off the attack quick!!"/"Kieran is pulling a cheap stunt!!" And the like.
It didn't take long for Amarys and Drayton, followed by Lacey, and then Carmine to figure out what was going on. And while Ogerpon closed in further on Kieran and his Hydrapple, she slowed down on her own accord, knowing something was truly was wrong at play here. Crispin and especially Florian continued to be befuddled at the developments unraveling here in the battle.
Instead, these five tried to convince Kieran to back down and stop this crazy stunt that could get him seriously hurt.
"YO KIERAN, WHAT THE HELL YOU THINK YOU DOING?!!" Drayton yelled and cursed with an unusually indignant look on his face, a rarity for someone so chill like him.
"Kieran please, don't do this!!" Amarys pleaded with tears in her eyes.
"Kieran NO!!" exclaimed Lacey with anxious fear on her face.
Carmine shaking with fear and emotional stress could only stand there with pains in her chest as she yelled with frantic concern. "KIKI GET OUT OF THE WAY!! YOUR GOING TO GET HURT!!!"
At that moment, two things. Kieran's wicked chesire grin grew as wide as it ever had been in his life. And two, Florian finally realized what was transpiring and just as Ogrepon finally closed the gap between her and her target, it channeled Tera energy from it's jeweled encased mask to it's cudgel and as Ogerpon prepared to swing it upwards from down low with all it's might, Kieran issued his final directive or what could be his final directive of the battle.
"Now Hydrapple, roll back and dodge it!!" Kieran commanded and as he did, Hydrapple quickly retracted all it's heads into the apple and rolled behind Kieran leaving him to take the hit in Hydrapple's stead but as the Cudgel was about to connect with a sickening crunch to Kieran's genitals, Florian issued a quick retraction with all his being hoping Ogerpon heard him in time.
As soon as Florian said "STOOOOOOOP!!!!!", Ogerpon immediately stopped her attack and then realized in utter shock that the target she was aiming for wasn't at it's position anymore and she almost hit the opposing trainer right where it would hurt the most.
"Pon Ponyo?" she uttered before taking a deep look at the bystander she almost nailed in the crotch. As she looked into his serpentine eyes, she was reminded of the sweet boy who helped clear her name with the villagers back in it's own homeland, the one who wanted her so, but could not because she had chosen Florian. This was the boy she wanted to be friends with as well, but he rejected her when he couldn't have her to himself.
Several agonizing seconds barely turn into a minute as everyone was in shock, all but one however as he muttered. "Guess you weren't the ruthless pokemon trainer that I thought you were huh?" Kieran muttered, before taking a hard look at the ogre that eluded him, the one that was taken from him. He looked at it, not with admiration and adoration as he used to when he was a child but with utter indignation, callousness, and bitterness. This shocked Ogerpon, that Kieran would look at her this way.
Kieran then made the shocking move that would completely upheave this battle on all perspectives. "Hydrapple...USE FICKLE BEAM FULL POWER and END THIS!!!!!" Kieran screamed at the top of his lungs, and at that Hydrapple quickly rolled back to it's previous position before all of it's heads mustered the energy for one full powered point blank assault blast which took Ogerpon, Florian, and ALL the spectators unawares. There it was Ogerpon took the fully powered point blank blast in full and was sent careening onto Florian's side of the field, it's Teal Mask decrystallized and severed in twain as Ogerpon itself landed with a thud further towards Florian. After a collective of surprised gasps filled the venue, things went silent once more.
They knew that they had to wait a good minute to see if what had happened with Hydrapple would happen with Ogerpon as well, but when Florian fully came to, he saw the completely broken Teal Mask on the floor in twain and knew this was over and then he realized what he almost did. He almost hurt Kieran, in one of the worst ways he possibly could. At this painful realization, he recalled Ogerpon and then he fell to his knees and began sobbing, not simply because he had finally lost to Kieran but what he almost did to him when trying to win.
To say that things were already out of hand during this battle was an understatement but a bigger understatement would be that things could have gone past the point of no return and that this battle was far more out of the bounds of what even a typical high stakes competitive championship match would be. Soon murmurs once again resurfaced and people were commenting, most completely dejected at the outcome. Things like 'What the heck was that?!'/'He had Kieran beat 110%!'/'Doesn't this kid ever lose?'/'Yo that kid is freaking insane yo!' amongst such other comments.
Meanwhile as Florian was sobbing on the floor, Carmine's concern for Kieran immediately gave way to her concern for Florian as she heard him sobbing on the ground. She went to comfort Florian as she had an idea of why he was sobbing uncontrollably.
Meanwhile Kieran was in shock, did he win, or was this all some dream or hallucination and he actually lost? Until Hydrapple got his attention and Kieran noticed it was weary but a bit cheery. His Hydrapple was tired and in need of some serious patching up so he recalled it. And then he heard the indignant murmurs and chatter of the crowd, and then it truly sank in... he finally did it, he finally beat the one trainer that became the bane of his dreams, his aspirations, the one that always had Kieran's number no matter what. And in the one battle that mattered the most, he actually...WON! The light came back in his eyes and he could finally let go of his past failures but then as he went to go towards his opponent he saw him on the floor sobbing and without context as to why, he only assumed he was spiraling because he had lost.
Seeing the trainer he once looked up to in this state, a state only a 'weakling' would be in, that light in his eyes was quickly extinguished as he felt appalled at seeing this. So he went back to being ruthlessly callous and called Florian out for being weak. After all it was that lack of being ruthless that cost Florian a championship match he should have won in the first place, right?
"Look at you, you who was once a proud trainer from the region of Paldea, now look at you, reduced to a sniveling simpy wimp." Kieran spat with venom in each word.
All Florian could utter was a "W-W-What?" before Kieran ruthlessly dug into him some more.
"See here you actually had the match won but you hesitated because you couldn't bear to hurt me in the process. So if anything, your the one who threw the match. But a win is a win and a loss is a loss. To see you groveling and sobbing over just one defeat, it sickens me. To think I used to look up to you, now I know your just a pathetic loser who just keeps getting lucky with everything getting handed to them. You and that useless ogre of yours are pathetic losers! Anything to say to that?" Kieran spat.
"I...I...I can never... can't...I can never battle...again." is all Florian can say in between sobs.
"Worthless!!" Kieran screamed at Florian's ear before lightly kicking him over with his left foot as Carmine finally reached Florian seeing what her brother did to him.
"Kiki!" She indignantly muttered before going to hug Florian as he still sobbed uncontrollably.
"Heh speaking of worthless, I can't believe I was pathetic enough to hide behind you back then, 'dear sister'. Say what you will about your 'boyfriend' but you sis, your even more pathetic than that fraud will ever be. You could have challenged the league and me directly yourself instead of getting the director to have Florian here come here as an exchange student and do your dirty work for you, and for all the false and unearned confidence in which you claim to actually be the best one here at the academy, better than these four lame-o's here? I don't think so, not even close." Kieran spat at his sister while pointing to the Blueberry Academy's Elite Four as he continued digging in to his big sister. "Your an even bigger disappointment than the 'Walking disappointment' over here, but that's alright because... every last one of you and yes including you four are pathetic in your own right! Drayton you couldn't beat me so you puppeteered this whole thing to try and get me dethroned even though we all know that was my big sis' idea from the start! You other three just too weak and incompetent! And everyone else here doesn't even take getting stronger seriously enough! What does any of you have to say to that huh, ya bunch of sad losers?!" Kieran went on a livid tirade.
At this everyone fell silent, although now, one Fire-type Elite Four was utterly confused at what had just transpired. "Uhh that was a great battle and all but two things, one, what is with that sour winner attitude Ki-man? And two Florian why did you stop Ogerpon's attack when it would have won you the battle for sure?" At this everyone else save for Kieran and Florian facepalmed hard, like is this red-headed kid for real?
"Gosh darn it Crispin, can't you learn to read the room?!" Lacey responded doing an 'X' sign with her arms.
"Still as clueless as ever eh Crispy? Well all you need to know is...our champ did Florian and the whole league dirty when he pulled that cheap stunt." Drayton replied while sauntering towards Kieran before addressing him directly in a hushed voice. "Isn't that right? Ends justify the means eh..'Champion'?". Drayton whispered in Kieran's ear.
At this everyone just stayed silent save for a couple of disappointed and dejected mutters here and there which translates to 'man this whole thing was a massive disappointment and a waste of time if you ask me' and 'cmon guys let's get out of here and leave the sour grape be'.
And as everyone left, Kieran couldn't help but taunt the leaving crowd like any professional wrestling heel wrestler would insult the crowd to generate even more heat. "YEAH LEAVE, BE A BUNCH OF SORE LOSERS! WHO NEEDS ANY OF YOU TO GET EVEN STRONGER!!"
At this Drayton decided enough was enough and decided to speak up, another unusual rarity in the otherwise calm and seemingly benign yet often scheming mastermind. "Listen here pal...I mean I can respect doing whatever it takes to win by just about any means necessary, but there's gotta be a ceiling to that. What you did...I'm just gonna come right out and say it, it was plain MESSED THE FUCK UP YO!" Drayton said with his voice losing all composure at the very end. Though before he could continue Lacey chastised Drayton for his use of foul language.
"Drayton that's a No-No word!" Lacey said doing her X sign pose before Drayton continued not even paying Lacey any heed.
"Like for real bro...you messed up real bad this time, not only by practically cheating an obviously well deserved victory from your opponent but even after the fact you decided to kick him when he's down, both figuratively and quite LITERALLY I might add. And let's not how you conducted yourself after the match by being the biggest sour grape in Blueberry Academy history, having the nerve to practically insult not only the league club but the entire student body. REALLY BRO, IT'S LIKE THAT!!" Drayton snapped at Kieran.
"DRAYTON, that's enough!!" Shouted Amarys with tears in her eyes. Very uncharacteristic for her given they usually see her as stoic and composed, hardly showing any emotion whatsoever. What transpired however was more than enough to break through the floodgates keeping Amarys emotions in check, emotions that became harder and harder to handle with how Kieran had acted and how he conducted himself in such a painfully degenerate way just now. She also had a few pointed words for Kieran. "Why Kieran why? Why would you go down this route? Why would you be so cold-hearted and cruel towards those who care for you! Can't you see we were only trying to help you, we were not turning our backs on you or conspiring against you! Can't you see that!!" Amarys pleaded with uncontrollable emotional sobbing.
"Kieran please don't do this anymore, we were just doing what was best for the league club is all. We weren't trying to ostracize you from the club or make you feel like an outcast, I swear oh so solemnly!" Lacey chimed in with concern in her voice.
"Yo Kieran, first of congratulations on retaining if that means anything to you still. Yet c'mon, isn't it time to put all this politics and scheming and bad things behind. Please Ki-man, let's just go back to the way things used to be, even if it's just us 5." Crispin genuinely remarked, hoping his mere words alone could placate Kieran's obvious indignant rage at the Elite Four. At this suggestion, Kieran pondered...for all of no more than 3 seconds before he gave his answer.
"Well let me think about it...nah, I think from now on I won't hangout with losers, weaklings, and TRAITORS!! Be seeing ya dingbats." Kieran replied harshly, with the word 'TRAITORS' being mainly directed at Florian and Carmine but would also apply to the Blueberry Elite Four Members as well as far as he was concerned. And with that he turned to leave back to his dorm...until someone else spoke, with a feeling of indignation and disgust they thought they never would feel towards their most cherished flesh and blood.
"You know what, How...Dare...YOU!" Carmine, Kieran's eldest sibling dared to utter at the still indignant teen, or more like spoiled child as far as she was concerned right now.
"Really now?" Was all Kieran had to say to that, as if even trying with his sister was no longer worth the effort.
"Yes really, HOW DARE YOU!! Was beating Florian all you ever cared about?!! Was one little lie and the fact some pokemon you identified with chose someone else over you really what drove you to act like an entitled brat?!! Was this whole thing worth destroying your friendship with Florian and everyone else?!! And was I really so terrible to you that you would basically discard ME as well?!!! The same one that's been protecting you, looking after you, and defending you from bullies all these years?!!! ARE YOU REALLY THAT UNGRATEFUL TOWARDS ME AND EVERYONE ELSE THAT EVER EVEN GAVE YOU THE TIME OF DAY TO EVEN GET TO KNOW YOU MUCH LESS BE YOUR FRIENDS!!!!" Carmine was livid at this point.
Kieran without any remorse or feeling simply replied. "And your point?". Without so much as passing a direct glance at Carmine.
"The point is you let out your frustrations for all your failures on everyone around you, and most of all towards poor Florian! Let's not forget you wasn't even thinking about getting stronger until he inspired you, so say all you want about how HE 'betrayed' you and pushed you to overwork yourself and your pokemon even though it was mainly MY fault everything happened the way things did back then, but if it wasn't for him YOU wouldn't even BE A STRONG TRAINER MUCH LESS ONE OF THE STRONGEST WE ALL KNEW!!!" Carmine snapped at Kieran now fed up with his ever increasingly undesirable attitude towards everyone and everything he had ever known.
"By that logic, I also have you to thank for the way you befriended him behind my back and conspired to crush my dreams because you couldn't handle the fact I was actually coming into my own when I first accepted Florian's offer of friendship! And yet that just highlights the fact it really wasn't his fault I became who I am now, he's just nothing but a tool to be used by scheming morons and pretty girls. If anyone is to blame for snuffing out my childhood aspirations, It's YOU CARMINE!!!" Kieran snapped it right back with an angry tone at the end of his reply.
"Okay...now we re getting somewhere, so we agree the start of this whole mess was mainly on me, right?! So tell me this why do you continue to disrespect the one person you used to look up to as a friend and call him mean names and say mean and horrible things about him, huh?! Don't even answer you've already answered that earlier. You were jealous of him, you couldn't stand to be his sidekick, he kept beating you all the time back then, and then when Ogerpon showed up, WE not YOU were the ones that met her. Maybe that was a sign that Florian was meant to be friends with her and if anything, you only liked her because of how she was initially treated as an outcast and had to fend off 3 glorified bullies at once and didn't see her for the kind and gentle soul she truly was. To you she was just a trophy you could brag about. And as for Florian, he may have not beaten you today, but the way you have been acting lately, nevermind how nasty your being now, you just proved he's more than TWICE the trainer and MORE THAN 5 TIMES THE PERSON YOU EVER...WILL BE!!" Carmine screamed at that last bit of indignant ranting to her younger brother, calling him out on all the wrong he's in.
"Hmph...we will see about that when I become one of the world most revered champions one day and that loser is working as some academy level instructor at some 2nd rate school." Kieran replied.
"Hate to say it but she's right... he's definitely worth more than anything you've become lately...well...time we wrap up this mudslinging fest don't y'all?" Drayton replied in his usual lazily manner but instead waltzes towards Florian and Carmine, and one by one the rest of the Blueberry Elite Four followed suit, first Lacey, then Crispin, then finally after some hesitation on her end, Amarys, making it clear who they will side with and support.
"Kieran... sorry bud but we gotta go with Florian here. Your just messed up bro." Crispin said.
"Your just...not right.." Lacey solemnly replied not even doing the X thing with her arms this time.
And finally Amarys with a tone much colder and stoic than usual, one with a much icier and embittered inflection simply said. "Kieran, I'm truly disappointed in what you've become." while standing beside her fellow Elite Four members and her friend Carmine and her friend that is still groveling on the floor, Florian.
"Yep, I was right huh, losers only hang out with other losers, kay.." Kieran said before he walked towards the receptionist counter and finalized the result of the battle and had it put in the academy record books before he did something else. He took a league club memo form and wrote something on it before handing it towards the receptionist. And when the receptionist looked at it, she was dumfounded and shocked to say the least, never mind she also saw this whole nasty turn of events go down so seeing this was the straw that broke the Numel's back.
"Wait what!!! Your resigning from the club and the position as league club champion?!!!" Exclaimed the receptionist in utter shock.
He just replied a 'Yup' before Drayton now furious snapped harder than ever today. Man personal records do exist to be broken after all huh. "YO WHERE YOU THINK YOU GOING BOY?!!! YOU CAN'T JUST WALK OUT ON US!!!
"Uhh I just did..now bye." Kieran replied callously.
"So what happens next Kieran?!" Asked Lacey at which Kieran turns his he'd towards the group of 6, with a look that says he is awaiting further elaboration. "What will you do now that your no longer a part of the club? Do you really think you don't need any of us? Do you really want to be an outcast for the rest of your school life? Do you really have everything you could ever want and need just by bringing down an innocent exchange student and treating them with contempt, then leaving the entire club YOU should be responsible for helping to maintain in COMPLETE SHAMBLES!! IT'S...JUST...NOT...RIIIGHT!!!" Lacey snapped doing her X pose but rather indignantly.
After a few terse and tense moments, as it became all too palpable, Kieran simply replied with an angry tone of banality. "I HAVE EVERYTHING I COULD EVER NEED!!! I DON'T NEED ANY OF YOU WORTHLESS LOSERS!" he spat with such venom at the last three words spoken before he turned and left to his dorm to change his soiled uniform. He'd probably would just wear a non club uniform and ditch the league club apparel.
After a few moments for the tension to die down. Florian was still on the floor groveling repeating the words 'I can never battle again' over and over every 1.5-3 minutes while sobbing uncontrollably.
Then all of them except Drayton, attempted to console the downtrodden Florian. Drayton just then, up and walked away from the scene, having been stressed enough which if you knew him wasn't how he rolled at all. So this really took its toll on him and as much as he hated Kieran for putting Florian down like that, he surmised Kieran had a point somewhat. Getting like this over one loss, even if that loss was totally unfair given how Kieran esentially cheated Florian out of a well deserved W, was sad and pathetic to say the very least.
The aftermath would soon come and on the following day, Carmine and Drayton were called into Ms. Briar's homeroom class, hopefully not about discussing the previous day's extremely toxic events that unfolded. She was going to call Kieran and Florian as well but after the school faculty heard what happened with Florian and Kieran during and after their championship battle, they had Florian go to the guidance counselor's office to seek help for his spiraling mental state and as for Kieran, he went straight to the director of the academy and demanded time off from school, AWAY from his 'dumb SISTER' he would insist to the point that Kieran issued an unequivocal directive towards all school staff to NOT inform his sister he would be leaving campus. And given that the incident from yesterday was also being addressed as well as his sour attitude towards his classmates and peers as of late, Cyrano decided that Kieran would undertake the rest of the school year and potentially more semesters of the following school year on an independent study abroad and for this to work, Cyrano would A: have to keep this info on this string of developments from Carmine and B: would have to inform Kieran's grandparents as a result and obtain permission from them in order to kickstart this trial independent study program Kieran would be undertaking.
Now after a week had passed since that horrid affair that was the league championship bout that went completely unhinged. Kieran was now wearing a black shirt with a purple long coat unzipped and black suede skinny jeans and black and white outdoor shoes. His hair somewhat in a similar style to how he had it but the bun was now a long ponytail and his hair was died pitch-black with white streaks. He also wore shades now, so I guess this was it. From adorably shy kid, to hardass jerk, to now Mr teen badass edge lord. Yeah this was the same kid that pissed himself a week ago when Florian nearly wrecked his dick hard in that championship bout both figuratively and literally. And now ain't no one from this here academy gonna recognize this kid anymore.
After packing up his suitcase, being sure to trash anything to do with his sister, his childhood, his former friends, and that stupid ogre, which was 2/3's of what he had on him. He packed the rest that were essentials for long term traveling and walked out his dorm room for the final time. Doing so at this time when Carmine and most of her associates would be attending classes right now so he wouldn't be spotted by any of those losers leaving campus.
And so begins the true story of one Kieran, this time it's his story and all that nonsense that began when he was forced by his sister to enroll at this dumb academy and enlisted in the league club, to that field trip he wished he never even went to but was forced to go to anyways, to his lashing out arc which saw him completely push away anyone and everyone that ever dared to coexist with him. He would no longer be forced to do anything he didn't want to ever again, because he was too strong to be contained any longer. He would finally be granted the one thing that truly meant to him, more than even the ogre itself(actually a her but ok)...ABSOLUTE FREEDOM and AUTONOMY over LOVE and FRIENDSHIP!!!
He will have to learn in the hardest, most cruel of ways that no matter how unfair life was to him when he was weak and shy, that life can be much more harsh and unfair in many ways he has yet to truly learn and he will eventually come to know that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. Which is what Cyrano was indeed going for with arranging this whole thing in the first place, apparently not unaware of the turmoils this kid was bringing into his school and how it stemmed from a lack of personal growth and introspection. Soon, young Kieran will grow into something no one will have dreamt of, something that's hopefully more desirable than he was lately, or succumb to the cruel nature of this world, it's true unforgiving nature.
A/N:This was a oneshot I felt utterly compelled to write while im kinda stumped on chapter 3 of my ongoing fic. My angst at the way this kid's 'stellar' character arc compelled me to write an alternative, much darker ending to the whole Blueberry Academy arc of the Indigo Disk. And woah look at this, my first non M rated fic. Still I mainly do M rated fics, though im branching out from writing only smutfics and lemons but looking to broaden my fic horizons.
