20 days. The Straw Hat Pirates were at Sea for 20 Days. They were out of food and starting to run out of water. Sanji, the chef of the crew, was trying to catch fish so they could eat at least one meal. However, there were no bites for hours. He needed to invest in a fish net but they were costing a lot these days, so they still didn't have one. Zoro was sharpening his new swords that he had stolen from a merchant roughly 50 days ago. Luckily, he still had his one sword. Nami was trying to find an island where they could restock but they were in the middle of nowhere. Usopp was at the steer, looking out for any sign of land. And Luffy, was being Luffy. Meaning he was taking a nap.
Finally, Usopp sees something. "Land hoooo!" He said and got excited.
"That's impossible!" Nami said and looked out and sure enough, it was a deserted island with a volcano attached to it. "There's gotta be drinking water there!" Usopp said.
"WIth a Volcano?" Nami asked, being realistic.
"I bet there are bountiful fruits there! I can make fruit salad!" Sanji said.
"I'm more of a fish kind of guy." Zoro says calmly and then goes to wake up his captain, Luffy.
Zoro walks into the Captain's sleeping quarters that Luffy lives in and shakes him awake. Luffy snorted and lifted his straw hat from his face and looked at the handsome swordsman. "Oh, Hi, Zoro!" He said with a big grin.
"We found a deserted island, we'll be landing soon and searching for food and water." Zoro said.
"Great!" Luffy said and got up to be with his crew.
Soon, after about 15 more minutes, they made landfall and they all got to the island with a tiny boat. Sanji went straight to work and went into the jungle with Zoro.
The Jungle was thick and lavish, and that volcano hasn't erupted in many years. Sanji searched around in the trees for fruit. "There! Can you climb these trees and cut these fruits down?" He asked Zoro.
Zoro just looks at him but relents and starts climbing the tree. "I hope we have something other than fruit salad!" He grunts as he climbs the tree and uses his katana to slice the fruits into baskets. "Oh, don't worry, pretty boy, we'll find some fish on shore. I can probably sell most of these fruits and buy a fish net for our ship." Sanji said.
But the two men were not alone in this thick jungle, something, no, someone was watching them. You didn't make a sound as you were watching these strange men get these fruits. They were. Humans! You needed to eat, but you thought of using them to get you food instead of eating them.
Soon, Zoro got down from the tree and as you watched them, you accidentally snapped a twig with your bare foot and Zoro heard it with his keen hearing and he looked right in your direction. You kept perfectly still as you were well hidden in the thick greenery, however your hair color might give yourself away if you moved.
"What is it, Zoro?"
"We're not alone on this island." Zoro said in his usual serious tone.
"If you're trying to scare me, Zoro, then good job." Sanji said.
Zoro draws one of his three Katanas. "Alright! I know you're there! Come out or be sliced into a million pieces and we eat you for dinner." He threatened and that was you cue to screech and make a run for it.
As you screeched, it was so loud that every soul on this island had to cover their ears so their ears didn't bleed. After the two men are on the ground you make a run for it. You carry your naked body away from there, however, while Zoro's ears were now ringing in his head, he managed to get up and chase after you.
You run to the beach where Luffy, Usopp, and Nami were and Zoro catches up to you easily, grabs your arm and you start hissing at him. Everyone came to see but Nami realized you were completely naked and covered Luffy's eyes. "Hey, I can't see!" Luffy said.
"Hey! You think you can just get away? There's nowhere to go!" Zoro yelled at you, terrifying you.
"Where's Sanji?" Usopp asked. "Still in the jungle, this bitch screeched so loud, it knocked him out!" Zoro yelled out.
"Wait! You did that?" Luffy said and made Nami remove her hand. You looked at Luffy in terror but you could see him smiling.
"That was impressive!" Luffy said. You looked at Luffy and tried to break free at Zoro's grasp but he wasn't letting you go. Soon, Luffy put on a softer expression. "Hey, it's okay, we're not going to hurt you." he said and reached his hands out.
You kept struggling and when Luffy touched your arms gently, you stopped struggling and looked into his eyes, you saw that he was being sincere and you could feel his hands on your arms as they traveled to your shoulders. Zoro gently releases his grip on your arm and you did what no one saw coming and you got closer to Luffy and began to hug him. This feeling, it was so brand new.
Luffy looked down at you and he smiled softly and held you as he could tell you were scared. "My name is Monkey D. Luffy. Do you have a name?"
"Mm… My nnamme is… Y/N" you stammered out.
"Y/N? That's a nice name." Luffy said as he continued to hold you.
Soon, Usopp returns from the Jungle with Sanji as he holds the blonde man up. Sanji still had the basket full of fruit.
Zoro stared at the mystery woman and Luffy hugging and he looked at Nami, who was just as confused. "I'll go see if I can find a blanket." Nami said and went to their supplies and grabbed a blanket and went over and wrapped it around you. You flinched but ultimately felt more at ease and clutched the blanket around you.
"How did you end up here, Y/N?" Nami asked.
"I was washed up here…" you said slowly.
"But where did you come from?" Zoro asked with a deadpan tone. You lifted your finger and pointed outward. "The sea." You said.
"Yeah, we know you get washed up by the sea. But where did you come from?" Zoro asked.
This wasn't going anywhere, you knew that much. You et out a sigh and began to sing, it was mysterious, mystical and enchanting.
"You're a siren…" Nami said.
Sanji widens his eyes as he hears the singing and watches her. "Oh wow. That's why you're so beautiful! With a voice to match!" He said.
"And it also explains why you have no clothes." Zoro said.
Luffy smiled. "Well… it seems you're in a situation." He said.
"No! Luffy I know what you're going to suggest, but having a Siren on our ship is a terrible idea, we could all be her dinner!" Nami said.
"I… Don't eat… humans…!" You argued back.
"Really? Cause I'm pretty sure your kind do eat people." Nami argued.
"Are we just ignoring the fact that this Siren has legs and feet and… no tail?" Usopp asked everyone.
You looked down and looked at your feet that were getting buried in the sand.
"Nami? Can I talk to you in private?" Luffy said.
Nami eyed you and then went off at a distance to hear Luffy out.
Luffy was the first to speak. "Usopp has a point, this Siren has legs and can walk? If we leave her here she's going to die."
"And if we bring her on board we die." Nami argued.
"Come on, Nami. I think if she was tricking us, we would be killed and eaten by now. You saw how terrified she was at Zoro!"
"Yeah, cause it's Zoro, he may have a pretty face but he's scary. I would be scared too." She said,
"Come on, Nami! Don't you think it would be fun to have another girl on board? At least until we can find land and we can drop her off to where she can live on land." He said. "She has legs for a reason. Something terrible must have happened. I can feel it, deep within my bones." He said.
Nami looked over at her captain and let out a sigh. "Fine. We'll just drop her off at the nearest village and then we won't have to see her again." Nami said.
"That's the spirit!" He said and ruffled her hair. To which Nami smiled at and fixed her hair.
Meanwhile Zoro had his eyes on you and you were staring out into the ocean. He did wonder why you were on land and not swimming around. And why did you say you don't eat humans? Sirens love eating humans. Why were you so different?
Zoro was a man of few words, but many thoughts.
Sanji got his full bearings back and let down the basket full of tree fruit. He looks up at you. "Want one?" He asked.
You look down at him and take the fruit and begin to eat it raw.
"You like your food raw, hm?" He asked you.
"Whatt doesss that mmmean?" You asked him, innocently.
Sanji let out a tiny laugh and smiled. "You capture the food and eat it straight away." He explained.
You sit down with him on the shore. You nod and suddenly you saw splashing in the water. You jumped up and went to go grab whatever was splashing.
"Hey you shouldn't be!" Sanji began to say and saw you real in a bunch of fish by using a large handmade fish net.
There were probably fifty to a hundred of them! "Aha! You have a fish net!" Sanji yelled out. "We're saved!" He yelled out and got in the water to help you, which you let him do.
Everyone saw the bountiful amount of fish being pulled to shore and they all were amazed and happy.
"You can… have some… there's… too many for me… to eat." You said slowly.
"Oh wow! Thank you! Thank you!" Sanji said over and over and pulled you into a hug, not even caring that you were not covered by your blanket anymore. You felt your face heat up and you freeze as he squeezes you into a happy hug.
Zoro lets out a scoff and he smiles a little. "This girl just became hella a lot more useful." He said.
Soon the sun was setting And the men gathered firewood while Nami sat with you and Sanji went to prepare the fish to cook. She was explaining their mission and her own life story. She also explained that Luffy, the man she hugged was the captain.
"Like a leader?" You asked.
"Yeah, he's our leader of sorts. He's convinced us to help you off this island and you obviously can't stay here."
"Why not?" You asked.
"Well… there are humans like us but they are mean and could take advantage of you. Maybe even kill you. Capture you, sell you." She explains.
"…Oh…" was all you responded with. You thought all humans were evil and not good. You never imagined a human like Luffy would even want to help you.
"You were probably taught that all humans are bad, huh?" She asked.
You nod.
"Luffy is not that kind of human. He even saved me from Alrong. Have you heard of fishmen?"
You turn to look at Nami. "Fishmen are our allies. Until they move to land." You explain.
"I see." Nami said.
You eye some of the fish that Sanji was preparing and you watch him.
Sanji looked over your way and he smiled. "You probably have never seen fish prepared this way. Wanna come see?" He asked. To which, you nod and go over to see with the blanket wrapped around you.
"Why do you do this?" You ask him.
Sanji smiled. "Because, humans can't digest fish scales or intestines. So we clean the fish, clean the blood, filet it and then we cook it." He explained the process quickly and easily. You tilt your head. "Cook it?" You didn't know what that meant.
"We cook it by using this and a fire." He explained, holding up a pan for you to see.
"Oh…" you said. You still didn't understand and Sanji saw that.
"It's okay, you'll see soon enough." He said and smiled at her.
Soon the men come back with arm full of wood to burn.
"I hope this is enough!" Usopp said.
Sanji smiled at the three men. "That should be enough for the night." He said.
Soon, a fire was made and you had never seen a fire before. It was warm and inviting. You reached your hand out but Zoro took a hold of your wrist, making you flinch and look up at his handsome face.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. Fire equals burning and burning equals pain. I know you're from the sea, but we can't have you hurting yourself." He explained dryly.
You gulped in nervousness by his intimidation.
Sanji put the pan on top of the fire to get it nice and hot. You watch.
Soon Sanji puts the filets on the hot pan and starts to make a sizzling noise. You watch the cooking process as the noise begins to soothe you in an odd way. You couldn't explain it, at all. You watched intensely as the fish's color turned from pale pink to pure white. You tilted your head in curiosity.
Everyone could tell you were fascinated by this whole thing. Luffy smiled as you looked intrigued. "Just wait. I think with a bit more time, you'll fit right in with the humans." He said with a smile.
You looked at Luffy when he said that and gulped a little. "I…"
"It's okay. It'll be hard at first. But you'll get used to it." He said.
You look from Luffy and stare into the fire again. You didn't want to live on land forever. But you could already barely communicate. How could you possibly explain everything? Why you ended up here, and where you wanted… needed to be.
Just… how? You miss your home. Your Pod, you missed everything about living in the sea. There was no way you were going to get used to living among humans.
"Well, we can talk about getting you help later, right now, food is ready, let's eat." Sanji said with a smile and began to plate the fish and fruit salad. He passed everyone their own plate and once you got yours you saw everyone beginning to eat and you picked up the fish with your hands and took a bite out of it. You scrunch your face. Do humans really eat it this way? It tasted terrible. You spit out the fish and Sanji was surprised.
"Well. Never had anyone spit my food out before, guess there's a first for everything."
Nami was quick and grabbed an entire raw fish from the sand, washed it off with the ocean water and gave it to you. You gladly took it and began to eat it, scales, intestines, eyes and all.
"I figured. Sirens eat fish like that." Nami said.
"I'll know that for next time." Sanji said, amazed and tried to not get too offended.
"Aww! It's okay, Sanji! I think your food is incredible!" Luffy said.
"Yeah! It's delicious!" Usopp said.
"For a waiter, it's not half bad." Zoro said, though he admired you for being so bold to spit out the cooked fish.
"Don't be offended, Sanji. Y/N is a siren, who lives… lived in the sea. She's used to eating raw fish."
Sanji saw all of his friends, blushed a little and smiled. "Thanks guys." He said and ate his food.
Soon, everyone finished eating and continued to stare at the fire as it started to die down. The crew was packing up because they were planning on sleeping on the Merry.
Luffy smiled at you. "Come on, we'll get you on board." He said and he grabs your hand and you stare at his hand holding yours. It was gentle and his hand was soft and warm. He guides you to the small boat and they all grab their stuff, load it up and they sail a bit to the ship, they get everything up and Luffy looks at Zoro. "Zoro! Can you carry Y/N up?" He asked.
Zoro nods and looks at you. "Hang on if you don't want to fall and drown." He says and picks you up and holds you with one arm he takes you up and climbs aboard. You look at his handsome face and green hair. You've never seen hair that vibrant green before. You hang on tight and try not to look down and he looks down at you.
Soon, everyone was on board with all their supplies and their new fish net and he smiled, admiring the handiwork you did to make it.
Soon everyone began to settle down for the night. Nami took you to her sleeping quarters and set up your bed. "Lucky that we have plenty of beds." She said,
You look around the decor of the ship and look over at Nami and admire her orange hair. You then looked down and saw a tattoo on her arm. You walked up and touched the tattoo. She turns to look at you. "Oh this? It's just a tattoo. I had my old one covered." She said,
You look up at her face. Nami looks back at you. "Guess you don't do tattoos?" She asked.
"Alright crew! Let's get some shut eye! We'll continue our journey to find The One Piece first thing in the morning!" Luffy shouted so that everyone could hear. Nami shook her head. "I think we need to find you clothes first and foremost…" she said and went into her closet and pulled out some clothes. "You can borrow my clothes. They look like they'll fit. Do you need help?" She asked.
Nami ended up helping you into your borrowed clothes and they were a tiny bit too big. You were pretty thin, and possibly malnourished.
"Well, that's okay. You'll probably gain some weight by the time we hit land again." She said to you.
Soon the men were in their sleeping quarters and they were soon asleep.
Nami was too and you laid in your new bed. You wondered how all of this was going to play out. You could barely speak. You probably should learn that too. After a while, your eyes begin to get too heavy and you close them, falling asleep shortly after.
