She didn't have to think about it before. With Brian, he was there for it; Ed had taken her statement, he knew more than most; Trevor knew better than to ask anything specific and she made a point of not having one night stands with people she didn't really know. But here, while Elliot kissed down her neck, her whole body seemed to be catching on fire. She felt the chill run down her spine and that no contact with this man was enough.
They were sitting closer together, on the couch. The newfound relationship slowly progressed to this point. They had been getting more comfortable lately, cuddling and talking about their day. Occasionally stopping to just look into each other's eyes and kiss slowly, hands lazily wandering over each other's bodies.
That's how they got here. He began to tease her, running his hand over her stomach, just below her breasts, which were aching to be touched. Her own hands tease him back, running over his thighs and down his stomach, never quite touching the growing lump in his trousers. They both know how much the other wants more, but there is no rush, every moment feels too good to waste. But when she felt his hands making their way inside her bra, her whole body tensed for a completely different reason.
He felt her tense, stopping the kiss and looking at her and taking his hand off her shirt. "Are you ok? We can stop."
"I don't want to stop," She sat back up on the couch fidgeting with her hands, nervous. She knew they would have to talk about it, and for them to go further, they had to talk about it now. "El, there's something you should know about the time you were away."
"It's ok, Liv, you can tell me anything." He sensed how nervous she was, and tried to help her calm down. "It can't be worse than Brian and Tucker, right?" He tried to joke, but it fell flat. She grew angry at his joke.
"Yes, Elliot, it can be worse than two men who loved me when you weren't around," she replied, putting some distance between them.
"Liv, I'm sorry, I just wanted to make a joke, obviously it was a stupid idea." He quickly tried to make it up.
"I know we are moving forward, but I don't think we can if we don't talk about this." She looks him in the eyes. "Not all has been good since you've been gone, El." She took a deep breath.
"It's okay, take your time." He saw how hard it was for her to share whatever it was.
"About two years after you left, we got a case that didn't sit right with us. All the red flags turned up, one after another. He was brought in for indecent exposure, but he didn't have fingerprints, so we couldn't identify him." She focused her entire attention on her hands, and he felt his own body turning cold. "He attacked the lady that had taken photos of his exposure. He completely brutalized her, burnt and raped, I don't know how she made it out alive… when we got there she identified him…" She took another pause, trying to regulate her breathing. Elliot was afraid to even make a sound, but his heart was beating so hard against his chest he was almost sure she could hear it.
"I guess my interrogation technique went a little too well and he fixated on me, telling me about all the things he'd do to me, and how lucky I'd be. The judge declared mistrial because of a lab error and next thing I know, Don was sending me home for a couple of days. He said he would have me arrested if I came to the station." She gave a humorless chuckle. He knew the worst part was coming, his body was almost shaking with anticipation and dread.
"So I did what he told me, I went home but stopped to get groceries, figures, right? The one time I went to get groceries. When I got to my apartment, I couldn't pinpoint what was wrong, but I knew something felt off, I still don't know why I didn't pull my weapon." She gave a shaken breath and lifted her eyes to meet his. "He was there, El. He greeted me with a gun to my head." She felt a tear run down her cheek and quickly wiped it away with her hand.
Blink your lights when you get inside. No one said that to her.
"He had me for two days before anyone noticed I was gone, by then we were already far from the city." The tears were now streaming down her face.
Is anyone taking care of you? No one took care of her.
"He had me for four days, he burned me, got me drunk, made me watch him hurt other people… He was a monster. His name was William Lewis." His own hand was trembling, he felt his body on edge and his eyes filling with tears for the woman he loved.
"I don't know how, but I summoned strength from deep within, I got myself free, I put him in cuffs and went to the bathroom. I made it 3 days before I had to beg him to let me go to the bathroom, and he took advantage of it, he touched me, and grabbed me. When I went back there, after subsiding him, I looked at the mirror and didn't see myself. He broke me, and I was looking at this person in the mirror and all I could think was Elliot would know what to do."
"I would, Liv, I would have broken every bone in his miserable body until he regretted he even existed," he said with such emotion he couldn't even recognize his own voice.
"I did, I beat him up, until he was dead, or I thought he was," She said with a broken voice. "But he survived. When the team got to me, he was unconscious. When they led me out of that beach house I was so sure you'd be outside. I looked around, I figured if something is bringing him back, it has to be it. When I didn't see you, I finally stopped looking around for you, or waiting for you to come back."
I'm your partner, if anyone should have you back it should be me. She looked, he wasn't there.
His soul felt like it was breaking. She looked at him and analyzed. "You really didn't know."
"Of course I didn't! I would've come back, Liv, I would have turned the city upside down, I would've… I would've… You have to know. Please, tell me you know." He stood up and started pacing while his voice took a pleading tone.
"I know now, but I still don't know how you didn't hear about it. It seemed impossible, so for a little while I did think you just didn't care." She confided her worst fear.
"Liv, I really don't know, but I can find out… My kids must know, I don't understand what happened, but I'll find out."
"No, please, let it go, El," she pleaded. "There's no point, we are here now. I'm telling you because I have scars, and if we go on, you'll see them." She explained.
"Nothing could make you less beautiful, if anything it makes you even more wonderful, Olivia. You fought, you saved yourself, scars don't form in the dead. You have scars because you survived, and thank God you did because we are here now." He sat back down and opened his arms so she could snuggle against his side.
"I love you, Olivia. I'm sorry I wasn't here," he murmured against her hair.
"It hurt me, the way you left. But I know you did what was right for your family and I could never fault you for that. I love you, Elliot." She turned her head up, kissing him lightly. "Just promised to never leave me again."
"It would take an act of God to take me away from you now, Liv."
Any final thoughts?
