Ran's cheeks flushed as she stared at Shinichi, her eyes filled with regret. She had come to this momentous decision after much soul-searching and many sleepless nights. Just because she was in love with someone else, that didn't mean breaking up with Shinichi wasn't going to break her heart.

"Shinichi... I've realized that I'm in love with Sonoko. I know it might be hard for you to hear, but I just can't deny my feelings anymore." Ran confessed. The last thing that she ever ever wanted was to hurt Shinichi, but she also had to stay true to herself and follow her heart. And her heart belonged to Sonoko.

Shinichi felt his heart shatter into a million pieces at her words. They had been friends since childhood, he and Ran had been dating for almost two years. But now, as he watched her confess her love for someone else, he knew that those feelings would never be reciprocated.

"I understand. I just wish you hadn't realized this after all these years." Shinichi managed to say. He tried so hard not to cry. Shinichi needed to be strong for himself, for Ran and for Sonoko.

"I'm sorry, Shinichi. I know you've always been there for me, but... I can't deny my heart anymore. I still want to be friends with you, but... I need to explore these feelings for Sonoko." Ran repiled. She bit her lip, unable to look at him. Ran felt horrible for breaking her now ex-boyfriend's heart, however she knew he would eventually find love elsewhere. And that they would both be happy with the people they were truly meant to be with for the rest of their lives. It just wasn't going to be with each other.

"I'll always be here for you, Ran. No matter what happens. I just wish things could have been different." Shinichi said. He nodded and he struggled to keep his composure. He stood up, trying to maintain his dignity. "

"I do too, Shinichi. I really do. Thank you for everything." Ran said. She stood up as well, Ran took a step towards him, reaching out to touch his arm gently.

"You're welcome, Ran. Take care of yourself." Shinichi forced a smile, his heart breaking as he looked into her eyes one last time. Then he turned and walked away, leaving Ran alone with her conflicted emotions.

She watched him go, knowing that their friendship would never be the same again. But she also knew that she had to follow her heart, no matter how painful it might be. With a deep breath, she turned and headed towards Sonoko's house, ready to face the uncertain future head-on.

Ran's heart was pounding as she approached Sonoko's house. She had rehearsed this moment over and over in her head, but nothing could prepare her for the real thing. As she rang the doorbell, she couldn't help but feel nervous and excited all at once. Sonoko opened the door, her eyes widening in surprise at the sight of Ran.

"Ran! What are you doing here? Is everything okay?" Sonoko asked. It was kinda late at night and Ran was never out this late, so she was worried about her. Sonoko had a feeling she would find out why Ran was there soon enough. She watched as Ran stepped inside, closing the door behind her.

"Sonoko, I need to talk to you about something important." Ran said. She took a deep breath and steeled herself. Ran knew what she was about to say was going to take all of the courage she had in her.

"What is it, Ran? You're making me nervous." Sonoko said. She led her to the living room, sitting down on the couch. Sonoko blushed slightly when Ran sat down next to her, taking her hand in hers.

"I love you, Sonoko. As in more than just the friend kind of love." Ran said. She couldn't stop the words that spilled out of her mouth. Ran really didn't want to. She knew she had to tell Sonoko how she truly felt about her eventually. Ran felt like right now was the right time to do so.

"R-Ran... I... I don't know what to say to that." Sonoko replied. her eyes widened even further and her jaw dropped open in surprise. She had no idea that Ran felt that way about her. But Sonoko quickly realized it did make sense with how Ran had been acting lately. And she wanted to find out where it would lead them if they did date.

"I know it's very sudden, but I've been feeling this way for a long time now. I just didn't have the courage to say anything until now." Ran replied. She squeezed her hand gently. Ran knew that it was a lot to absorb all at once.

"I... I'm flattered, Ran. Really, I am. I just never thought about dating another girl before is all." Sonoko said. Her face turned red as she looked away. But thoughts of herself and Ran together as a couple that popped up in her mind at that moment did make her happy.

"Please, just give me a chance, Sonoko. I want to explore these feelings with you, to see where they lead us. Only if you want to, too." Ran said. She leaned forward. She placed her other hand on Sonoko's cheek. Ran could feel the heat of Sonoko's blush on her palm. She thought it was cute as hell.

"Okay, Ran. I'll give it a shot." Sonoko said. She looked up at her, her eyes were full of uncertainty, but also happiness. Then, a few seconds later, a sweet, soft smile slowly spread across her face.

Ran's heart soared as she leaned towards Sonoko for a kiss, their lips finally meeting after all these years of longing. As they kissed, she knew that this was only the beginning of a beautiful journey together.

Sonoko blushed bright red as her very first kiss with Ran continued. She always thought that Ran would be a great kisser and she wasn't wrong. Sonoko knew that Ran hadn't mentioned when their first date would be, but she was definitely already planning it in her head and she was very excited.
