WARNING: Mild spoilers
I watched GSF at the theaters a few days after the premiere (I really wanted to go during the premiere, but you know, unlike the me who watched the first episode of Gundam SEED, I'm an adult now and so I had to adult during that day LOL) and I legit cried on my seat when the closing credit rolled...
Admittedly I watched it two times because during the first one, I was so excited at seeing all those familiar faces and I forgot that this is Gundam SEED universe so there were a lot of diplomatic meetings and military jargon, all in Japanese and without subtitle LOL
Felt like having a listening exam.
But guys, ALL THE CANONS ARE OUT and I can't be happier.
Anyway, enjoy the story.
It's been years since I last wrote a fanfic but I had the biggest urge after coming home from the theater.
Athrun and Cagalli might feel a tad OOC here, but oh well...
(This story was actually written for my writing account in fictionpress, but it felt fitting so I changed some parts to made an AsuCaga fic out of it)
Athrun's Knock Out Blend
Athrun put a white mug with an Orb logo on it to the right of Cagalli's laptop on her working desk, on the small space created between the laptop and a writing pad. It was her default setting; a holy trinity of her precious laptop on the left, a pen and a writing pad on the lower right, and a small vessel filled with warm liquid on the upper right. Cold ones, sometimes, during the hottest kind of day, but those were quite unusual. Cagalli insisted on warm drink, usually the strong black kind, most of the time.
"Thank you," Cagalli said, lifting her face and beamed a little to the blue haired man. She took the mug and hold it with one hand, brought it close to her face, and inhaled deeply at the brownish red liquid. Although he knew her mug was usually filled with coffee, but at this late at night, Athrun did not want Cagalli to stay awake even later. Also, the Chief Representative of Orb had already promised him that she would spend no more than thirty minutes when the short hand of the clock pointed at the number 10 just a short while ago.
"It smells nice. What is it?"
"It's a mix of marigold, lavender, linden, jujube, and rosehip."
Ah, there it is. The greatest laughter in the world. Athrun could feel the warmth that slowly enveloped his heart when the bright laughter of the representative echoed and filled the room.
"Are you trying to knock me out?" Cagalli commented before taking one short sip and a slow, longer one. She made such a childish happy face that Athrun could not refrain himself from smiling.
Linden and chamomile were mostly flavorless. Athrun knew Cagalli disliked the scent of lavender, but she had always loved the taste of jujube and aroma of rosehip. Now in her mug was a gram or two of each, steeped in boiling hot water for a few minutes, in a tightly sealed container to get most of the flavor and benefits from the wonderful dried herbs.
"Maybe I am," Athrun said while patting his girlfriend's head.
Lately she had been working a tad too hard for his liking. Early morning meetings, inspections packed afternoons, late night paperwork reviews. The latest incident involving the Kingdom of Foundation only made her days longer; peace-building had never been an easy task. Cagalli even looked as if she were still deep in thoughts when she was sleeping, with her face frowned and her brows crinkled. Sometimes the chief representative would mutter something in her sleep, but they were usually not audible enough even for Athrun's coordinator ears to catch. At the very least, she was not waking up in the middle of her sleep like how she used to be when she was stressed out. She had grown as a person, a lot.
Many of Cagalli's self-destructive habits had changed, especially after Toyah became her secretary. The Lioness of Orb took her role as his mentor to be the future head of Orb religiously, to the point she stopped overworking herself to set a good example for that boy. She was still as hot-headed as ever, though, as proven when she ran out of patience and yelled at the members of C.O.M.P. S. when they accused Kira of being a traitor after what transpired during the operation at the border between the Kingdom of Foundation and the Eurasian Federation.
"Let's wrap up soon and go to sleep?"
Cagalli nodded at Athrun's plea; her mouth was filled with another big sip of the warm sleeping potion. "Just let me finish this one paragraph, it should take not more than ten minutes," she put back the mug onto her desk and started reading again.
Athrun leaned over and kissed the top of her head, before heading to the window and sat on its wooden sill. He entertained himself by messing around with some coding program on his tablet, writing some new moves for the toy robot he was building for Cagalli. The window was ajar; the air was pleasant even though there was not any breeze.
It took Cagalli approximately eight minutes to finish her work, used the remaining two to finish her tea, just a few seconds to stand up and put the mug to the used utensil cart at the other side of the room, and finally approached her sitting boyfriend. Athrun was a bit startled when Cagalli kissed his left cheek. He could feel a soft smile pulling up the corners of his lips.
You cheeky little one. Always so cute and full of surprise.
"I'm done. Let's go," Cagalli pulled Athrun's hand impatiently, trying to get her boyfriend's attention. It was truly an action not needed as his whole attention had never been away from her; on the window sill, he ended up watching her faint reflection at the window glass instead of touching his tablet. Athrun got up and followed the chief representative, one of his arms in her firm grasp, her happy feeling silently seeping out from her small grin and hurried steps. Seeing her like that, Athrun could not help but to whispered in his heart.
How possessive. How teeth-achingly silly.
How pure.
The two lovers left Cagalli's home office soon and went to their bed chamber. Cagalli whined that the concoction Athrun made worked a little too well; she could not stop yawning while preparing to sleep. Athrun doubted her accusation; he believed her uber relaxed state was caused by the safety and comfort offered by their private quarter, and proudly—Well, also secretly—his existence. He did not debate the woman he loved so much, though, there was no time for that as she drifted off as soon as they lied together under the thick blanket.
Athrun ran his fingers through Cagalli's soft blonde strands and pecked her forehead softly.
Rest well, my light.
Good night.
I think my writing style has changed quite a lot.
I looked up some of my old fanfic and thought "God, this kid was loud."
Perhaps I'm just getting old, but even noise in written form annoys me now LOL
So happy that some of you all still liked the fanfics I wrote, though.
Btw I really wish I can get my hands on that novelette about Athrun and Cagalli they gave out during the first week of the movie screening. I was out of my luck and although I did go during the first week, apparently they ran out of stock so I didn't get one. Hopefully someone would be kind enough to translate or share the contents of that novelette with all of us.
I'd love to talk more about our two babies but I don't wanna give you all spoilers so I'm signing out.
Cheers :)
