Traits
Due to their roots as a cadet branch of House Durrandon, most members of the house have black hair and blue eyes. Also, they are physically stronger than an average person due to their relation to Leon, who used alchemy to increase his strength beyond an average person to fight monsters. They also inherited Leon's ability to sense magic. This means it is hard to fool a Belmont using magic and they can they if a magical creature is nearby. They are also trained from a young age to be able to fight with Morning Star or any other weapon they choose.
The Founding of House Belmont
The House of Belmont is an old house.
The founder of this house was Leon Storm, the bastard brother of King Ormund III of the Stormlands. Leon was granted the Belmont Hold, which he took as his house name, by his father. During the reign of his half-brother Ormund, he converted to the Faith of the Seven along with his brother. This began the period in which Leon did all of his legendary feats.
It is said that his betrothed, who was named Sara, was killed by a monster who took the form of a man when he was 18. This monster's name has been lost to time but it is referred to as the Son of the Dragon. this made him swear to fight all the evil creatures of the night. This leads Leon to go on a quest for revenge that leads him to travel the world for 10 years in search of a way to murder this "man" who had taken the love of his life. It was in these travels that he learned many magical secrets from the Greenseers of the First Men to the Warlocks of Qarth to the mages of Asshai. Also in his travels, he got his family's weapon, the Morning Star. Using all the magical secrets he learned in his life, he found and battled the Son of the Dragon in a fight for the ages. It was hard fought but in the end, he defeated the monster and went back to the Belmont Keep to find a wife. He wrote down all the magical secrets and had them and all the magical artifacts kept in a secret library he had built under the keep when he was 30. Leon was the first Stormlander to be knighted by the Faith of the Seven. His House came to be a major bannerman of the Storm Kings.
History After the Founding
The House of Belmont came to become an ally to the Faith of the Seven because they were the go-to when something magical was involved. This led other houses to ask for help from the Belmonts when something supernatural happened that they needed to be solved. This led to the reputation of monster hunters that they gained over time. They also continued to explore the known world looking to increase their knowledge of the supernatural world. This search for knowledge made the Belmonts the authority on magic because while they did not practice every type of magic, because some are hereditary, they did have books and books on the subject. In the time between their founding and the time of Aegon's Conquest of Westeros, they had gained a mass of wealth and influence in the Stormlands. However, they stayed loyal vassals of the Storm Kings. Over time, as magic started to decline and the time increased people began to have disbelief over the magical world that the Belmonts fought. This was because magical creatures started to disappear except a few, like dragons and krakens, but even those creatures started to disappear from the public eye. This caused the Belmonts to lose a lot of their influence because people lost the need to ask for their help. This also caused them to start to lose their friendship with the Faith of the Seven. This led to people beginning to believe that the Belmonts worshiped demons and the Lord of the Seven Hells. While this was all happening, They still were close to the Storm Kings but that would change with Aegon's Conquest.
Aegon's Conquest
House Belmont originally supported King Argilac "The Arrogant" Durrandon in his fight against Orys Baratheon but when Argilac was defeated in single combat by Orys, they continued to fight until Orys married Argilac's daughter, Argella Durrandon. While this stopped the fighting with Orys's forces, they were still reluctant to help Aegon conquer the rest of Westeros. This caused the relations between House Baratheon and House Belmont to always be tense. This was because the Baratheons thought that the Belmonts were always planning to rebel against them and the Belmonts thought that the Baratheons were usurpers. This caused a similar relationship to that of House Stark and Bolton, which means that they didn't trust each other.
After Aegon's Conquest
With Aegon's conquest of Westeros, the Belmonts lost the rest of the influence that they formerly had in the court of the Storm Kings. House Baratheon did everything it could do to weaken the Belmonts. This led the Belmonts to fall from major power in the Stormlands to a minor one. Throughout two hundred, magic fully died with the death of the last dragon and this led to the Belmonts losing the last of their relevance in Westeros. With magic dead in Westeros, the Faith of the Seven lost the last reason to tolerant the Belmonts and thus fully supported the idea of getting rid of them. They formed a conspiracy with the Baratheons and the other noble families across Westeros but lacked an excuse to attack. The excuse came with Robert's Rebellion when House Belmont supported the Targaryens because they were not on good terms with House Baratheon. The Faith of the Seven used this as an excuse in 284 B.C. to excommunicate the Belmonts and support rival noble houses to attack and destroy the Belmont Keep. They killed all the Belmonts they could, killed all their cadet branches, and forced the rest that survived to flee to Essos. The last of the Belmonts grabbed what they could when they fled to Essos, including Morning Star, and many books. The surviving Belmonts lived in Essos until 288 A.C when Trevor Belmont became the last Belmont.
Other Important Peoples
The Speakers are groups of nomad scholars who maintain oral stories and traditions. They are a highly educated, nomadic group that memorizes oral histories and events. Many Speaker trains are spread out across Essos. The Speakers are nomadic, so they may witness history everywhere and exchange knowledge with other Speaker tribes, as well as enthusiastically sharing their knowledge with citizens. While traveling, they will take precautions to protect tribal members, such as all Speakers having similar haircuts and wearing the same robes to protect their female members. In general, their clothing is similar to that of monks: they wear long robes with hoods and open-toed sandals, even in winter. Additionally, Speakers respect the nature of magic and even used to have practitioners as members but that trait has become rarer as magic has died off. It is said that Speaker magic could summon fire, ice, wind, and earth with only words. Along with keeping the history of Essos, Speakers are altruistic idealists. It seems to be universally accepted by all of them that Speakers must always help those in need, no matter the danger it poses to them. If those in need are suffering a full-blown community crisis, Speakers will temporarily settle in the region and stay until the need has passed. Their aid will often take the form of medical assistance, sharing resources, and being of use however they can. Due to this nature, they are often taken advantage of by people and sometimes taken as slaves due to their pacifist nature. Though generally non-violent, Speakers are very defensive toward their practice of orally reciting history. They despise the idea of writing history on paper. Even Trevor Belmont's father once got into a fistfight with a Speaker after attempting to convince them to record their knowledge on paper for the Belmont Library. The Speakers and Belmonts have historically been on good terms.
Fun Facts about the Belmonts
They dislike the Boltons due to rumors that a shapeshifter, who is said to be similar to the "Son of the Dragon" in their founding story, controls the Boltons.
It is said that the mother of Leon Belmont was from the Reach and was the daughter of a famous knight.
There are rumors that Leon Belmont was best friends with the "Son of the Dragon" until his betrayal.
The End
This is my first story. This is mostly a test to see if I want to even do this as a hobby but if I still somewhat like the story later, I probably will continue to write this. Also, I own nothing that honor goes to G.R.R. Martin and Konami. This was mostly just to get the idea out of my head and the fact I didn't see anything that was like this on the site but I might have missed it so tell me if you see it. Also, Sorry for any mistakes I make about the lore of Castlevania and ASOIAF. This is not meant to be super serious but I just wanted to give a warning for any future mistakes I make along the way.
