A/N: I have been reading a lot of FanFiction lately and it's got the wheels in my head spinning so I thought I'd try writing. I have gotten a lot of inspiration from the stories I've been reading on here, so if something seems familiar it's probably from something you read before. I don't remember where each came from, but if you do please let me know. I'm more then happy to give credit where credit is due.
So I'm basically going to stick with the original,(because face it, we all love it or we wouldn't be a fan) just changing a few things, rearranging a few events, cutting out a lot of filler, and giving it my own little spin. I'm going to be picking up my main story in the events of the second movie. But in my version it takes place after Ash has already competed in the Orange league and is on his way home.
I'm open to constructive criticism feel free to comment on anything you might think will make the story better, just please don't be rude. I hope you enjoy it.
Prologue
In a small town in the Kanto Region, called Pallet Town, there live a 13 year old boy named Ash Ketchum. Like most kids his age in Kanto he was about to start his journey to become a Pokémon trainer, however he wasn't like most kids, he was special. Ash had always been a bit of an outcast amongst his peers. In such a small town there weren't enough kids for a school, so they went to school in the next town over. Ash's mom being a retired school teacher decided to just home school him instead.
Ash's house was on the edge of Professor Samual Oak's Pokémon Research Lab and Sanctuary, so he didn't get the chance to interact with other kids much, instead he would spend all his free time exploring the Sanctuary and making friends with all the wild Pokémon that lived there. By the time he was 7 he knew it as well as the Professor, at 10 he knew it better as well as every wild Pokémon there. That was also when he discovered he had a unique gift. He could understand Pokémon. Not with words or telepathy, but more of a feeling, like he just knows.
Ash had just turned 13 a week ago, and it was now 9:30, on the morning he was supposed to get his first Pokémon. The problem was he was supposed to be at the lab at 9:00 and he was just now waking up. He glanced at the alarm clock and bolted straight up in bed. Realizing he was late he jumped out of bed then started rushing around to get dressed. After he was ready he ran down the stairs and went into the kitchen. "Hi mom. Bye mom." He said grabbing his backpack and running out the door, and down the street to Professor Oak's lab.
Thankfully he had snacks and water along with a change of clothes in his bag. His tent he got from Professor Oak a few years ago. After he had found Ash sleeping outside with the Pokémon for the fifth time. It was a pop up tent that could set itself up or tear itself down at the push of a button, but the best part about it was that it had the same technology that poke balls use to shrink, so it can fit right in your pocket, and it could charge itself by using either solar or lunar energy. The Professor got it from a colleague in another Region, some Kid Genius there invented it.
Arriving at the lab, Ash noticed there was no one here. "Professor Oak!" Ash called out. Just then he heard foot steps coming from down the hall, he turned to see the Professor and his grandson, Gary headed his way.
"Well if it isn't Ash, late as always." Gary says. "You know you'll become a 'Pokémon Master' that way, right?" He laughs and walks out of the lab. Ash had tried to explain to Gary before what he thought a real Pokémon Master was. Someone who was friends with all Pokémon, whether he was their trainer or they were a wild Pokémon. Gary didn't get, so Ash ignored him. No one got it, well almost no one. There was one person but they moved away years ago.
"Ah, Ash you're here. Good. I knew you'd get here eventually." Says the professor. "Unfortunately all the starter Pokémon have been chosen already."
Ash groans. "Does that mean I don't get a Pokémon?"
"I didn't say that. Follow me." He crosses the room and goes down a different hall, Ash fallows. "The Pokémon I have for you is a special case, his trainer abandoned him and he hasn't trusted anyone since. It's going to take some work to get him to come around, but I figured with the way Pokémon flock to you, your the best one for the job." He stopped at a door and opened it. Inside, the room was empty except for a single pedestal with a pokeball sitting on it that had what looked like a lightning bolt on it.
"So, it's an electric type?" Ash asked.
"Yes. Go ahead." He motioned to the pokeball. Ash walked up and grabbed it, releasing the Pokémon inside. "Ash I would like you to meet Pikachu. Pikachu this is your new trainer Ash."
"Pi.." Pikachu looked at Ash, then looked away, crossing his arms as if saying 'No Way'. "Chu."
Ash scratched the back of his neck, knowing EXACTLY what Pikachu had just said. "Well you did say this was going to be a challenge. Alright Pikachu, back in the ball."
Ash tried to put Pikachu in the ball three times, but he dodged the beam each time. "Pika..Chu!" Pikachu sent a thunderbolt at Ash, giving him more then just a little shock.
Slightly dazed from the thunderbolt Ash shakes his head to clear it then looks at Pikachu. "That's quite the thunderbolt you got there. Impressive. So that's a big No on the pokeball, will you at least walk with me then? It doesn't really matter how either of us feels about it, we're stuck together now." Pikachu gave Ash a suspicious look, but nodded.
"Here Ash." The professor said handing something to him. "This is a Pokédex, all you have to do is hold it up to a Pokémon and it will scan it, then tell you what kind of Pokémon it is and a few details about it. And here are some more pokeballs so that you can catch more. Now, don't lose your Pokédex. Not only dose it tell you about the Pokémon you encounter, it's also your ID and will keep track of your battles and the money you make from them. As long as someone is acting as a judge or referee you will make money from any battle you partake in. 10 credits if you lose, and 50 if you win."
Ash held the Pokédex up to Pikachu. "Pikachu, the electric mouse Pokémon. When it is angered, it immediately discharges the energy stored in the pouches in its cheeks."
"Thank you Professor." Ash said putting it in his pocket. They left the room and headed outside.
Once out there they saw Ash's mom, Delia Ketchum walking up. She was an older woman around the age of 58, most of her hair grey, while the rest was a reddish brown. She had gotten pregnant with Ash at the age of 44 and gave birth at 45. Much older then most women, but she had never found the right man to settle down with. She wanted to have a baby before it was to late for her to, so she went to an old friend of hers and asked if he would be a sperm donor. She told him that her child would not know that he was the father, but it was his choice to be in his life or not, he agreed to be the donor. After she got pregnant, she moved to Pallet Town to raise her would be son. "Oh good, I'm not to late. Ash before you leave I want you to make me a promise."
"Sure. What is it mom?"
"No matter where you are, how far you go, or however long your journey may take, I want you to promise that every year you'll come home for your birthday." That wasn't what he was expecting his mom to say, but he nodded anyway and promised he would. "Good. Now what Pokémon did get?"
"I got a Pikachu with trust issues." Ash said, looking towards said Pokémon. "But we should probably go. Bye Professor." He turned to his mom and gave her a hug. "Bye mom, love you." She returned the sentiment, and then Ash was off on his journey with Pikachu reluctantly following behind.
A/N:When the words have italics it's what the Pokémon are saying , when a word is bold it's a thought. A word underlined is a Pokémon move being used.
Ash and Pikachu had been walking for a few hours now, headed to Viridian City when they came across a flock of Spearow. Ash scanned them with the Pokédex. "Spearow, the small bird Pokémon, it is a normal and flying type. Their cry can be heard from a mile away, usually signalling danger."
"Ash turned to Pikachu. "So what do you say, wanna help me catch one?"
"Pi pika pikachu, pika pi?"Why would I do anything for you, when you haven't done anything for me?
Ash thought about it for a second. "Okay, that's a fair point."
"Pika!" You understand me!
"Yeah." Ash said, scratching the back of his neck. "It's just something I've been able to do since I was like, 10. But no one knows about it, not even my mom. Only the wild Pokémon at the Sanctuary. So, while we're travelling let's just keep this between me and you, and whatever new Pokémon join our team."
Pikachu thought about it then nodded. "Pi." Ash was different from anyone else Pikachu had met. He figured, if Ash could trust him with such a big secret, he could at least trust him enough not to abandon him, and try and get to know his new trainer. Who knows, maybe he might even end up liking him.
They didn't notice, but while trainer and Pokémon talked, the flock of Spearow watched. Jealous of their relationship, they grew increasingly angry till they snapped and attacked. Taken by surprise they got hit by more then a few attacks before Ash told Pikachu to use Thunder, surprisingly enough he listened. Stunned for a second they began to fall from the sky before quickly recovering then flying off.
The two collapsed to the ground in relief. As they looked up at the sky, they saw a Pokémon Ash didn't recognize. He pulled out his Pokédex and scanned it. "Unknown Pokémon." Came the robotic voice of the Pokédex. That's odd. Ash thought, but before he could think on it further he heard a loud cry come from the direction the Spearow went. They were on their way back, with a flock of Fearow in tow. Ash jumped up and grabbed Pikachu then started running. Unfortunately he wasn't fast enough and they quickly caught up. Ash tried to protect Pikachu, but couldn't cover him completely. Both were now covered in cuts and bruises, out of the corner of his eye Ash saw a waterfall, and decided to take a literal leap of faith.
Jumping, he landed in the water below, and the current pulled him along the river, holding tight to Pikachu the entire time. He tried to kick to the surface, but it was a useless effort. All of a sudden he came to a stop, but he could still feel the water rushing around him.
Meanwhile on the surface..
A red headed teenage girl named Misty, was fishing at the river. Man, I'm not catching anything today. She sighed, just as she was reeling in her line to pack up for the day, she felt a strong tug on the rod that almost pulled her right in. She braced herself, and started to reel in what ever she had caught. Wow, whatever it is must be pretty big, it's taking all my straight just to pull it in. Just then, whatever was on the end of her hook broke through the water. "It's a boy?" She said out loud. "And a Pikachu." She pulled them up onto the riverbank, and they started to cough up water. The first thing that popped into Misty's head was, How did his hat stay on his head while being pulled down the river. Then the boy groaned pulling her from her thoughts.
Coming to, Ash looked down at Pikachu and saw that he was in really bad shape. He had to get him to a Pokémon centre right away. He looked around and saw a girl standing there with a bike next to her. "Can I borrow your bike?" He asked her. "I need to get my Pikachu to a Pokémon centre fast."
"No." She said, Ash looked down, crestfallen. "But I can give you a ride to Viridian City, there is a Pokémon centre there." He thanked her and off they went. As they pulled up to the centre and got off the bike, Pikachu woke up. Being scared in an unfamiliar place and in pain, he sent out a thunderbolt that hit Misty's bike. "Hey, my bike!"
Running into the Pokémon centre Ash called over his shoulder, "Sorry! I'll pay you back, promise."
Sitting at the counter, Nurse Joy saw the young boy run in with a very beat up looking Pikachu. She immediately called for her partner, Chansey, to bring a gurney. In no time, Chansey was rolling Pikachu into the back for care. Nurse Joy turned to Ash and asked sternly, "How could you let your Pokémon get in such bad shape?" It was just then that she noticed the condition HE was in, he was even more beat up then Pikachu.
"I'm sorry Nurse Joy," Ash said, "we got attacked by a flock of Spearow and Fearow. I did my best to protect him but I could only cover so much."
Nurse Joy signed and nodded. "I understand, why don't you go get cleaned up while I take care of Pikachu." Ash agreed and did as she suggested. After he was finished cleaning up, he ran into Misty.
"Now, about my bike." She said. "I think I know a way you can pay me back. You can let me travel with you."
"Oh, well um-uh." He hesitated. "Can't I just give you the money for it?"
"What, would it be so horrible to travel with me?" Misty ask, offended.
"Oh no, it's not that. It's just I'm not usually good around people, I've only ever had one human friend, and that was years ago." At the mention of his old friend, his hand automatically went to the red half of a pokeball pendent on a slightly worn, adjustable leather cord that he never took off from around his neck. "But I guess you never know what you are capable of unless you try, so why not. But it's getting late, and I need to check on Pikachu, meet me here in the morning and we will talk about where we will go first. Sound good?" Misty agreed and they went their separate ways, for now.
Ash walked into Pikachu's room and greeted Nurse Joy and Chansey. "How is he?"
"He'll recover just fine, but he should stay here till noon tomorrow." With that she walked out of the room. Chansey stayed a few minutes longer fussing with Pikachu's blanket.
Before walking out it patted Ash on the shoulder. "Chansey chans." Don't worry, he's strong. Then headed for the door.
"Thank you Chansey, I know he's strong." Was Ash's reply.
Chansey paused and looked at Ash. "Cha.." Wha.. Before shaking its head and walking out the door.
Ash looked at Pikachu and started to talk to him, even though he was sleeping. "You know, before we started our journey I told you that we were both stuck with each other, no matter how we felt about it, but the truth is, I feel so lucky that I get to travel with a Pokémon like you." He continued to talk for a while longer before falling asleep at Pikachu's bedside.
When he woke up, Pikachu was still asleep so he went and met up with Misty to make plans. Having settled on where they are going first, Pewter City Gym, Ash called his mom and Professor Oak to tell them about everything that happened the day before. After hanging up with his mom, having called the professor first, he went back into Pikachu's room.
As soon as he sat down, Pikachu started to wake up. "Pi.." Ash.. Looking around his eyes connect with Ash. "Pika!" You're here! Pikachu jumped at Ash and started to rub his cheeks on him in affection.
"Of corse, I'd never go anywhere without you." He scratched Pikachu behind the ears making him squeak in delight.
After Pikachu was discharged, he, Ash and Misty headed off to Pewter City, and their next big adventure.
A/N: As I said at the beginning the story will pick up again in the events of the second movie on Ash and his friends, Misty and Tracey's way home. Up until that point everything is pretty much the same just with my own spin, so you will have to use your imagination for the rest.
