Chapter 15: U.A Entrance Exams

Izuku stood in front of the U.A building with visible excitement on his face. Other kids walked past him to enter the building grounds for the entrance exams of the popular hero school. He is wearing blue jeans, a black band shirt, green hoodie, and his signature red shoes. On his back is a yellow backpack with his gym clothes for the physical exam. Kyojuro's sword can be seen strapped to the backpack with a black holster. Other kids would glance at the blade before going back to their own thoughts.

Not wanting to waste anymore time, he starts making his way towards the location he needs to be to take the written portion of the exams. As he walks next to the other kids he gets a good look at some of them who's quirks changed their appearance. There are some interesting looking ones like a girl who seems to have vines growing out of her head instead of hair and some odd looking ones like a person who had three arms on each side that are webbed. Too busy in 'analysis mode' Izuku bumps into someone causing both of them to stumble and fall.

"Oi! Watch where you're goin extr- Deku!"

As soon as Izuku heard the voice he inwardly groans. He can't believe that he forgot that his old best friend turned bully and himself have the same dream. Katsuki looked angrier than usual when he saw the green haired boy. Seeing that Izuku looked to have gotten stonger made the blondes blood boil. Izuku quickly stood up and bowed to the other teen, who looked even angrier at the gesture.

"I'm sorry Kacchan, I wasn't watching where I was going! Long time no see?"

Katsuki stood up still glaring at Izuku and grunted in response. Taking a moment to quickly size up his old bully victim he replied.

"What are you, stupid?! How can you be a hero if you can't even watch where you're goin?! You're better leaving now if all you can do is get into people's way!"

Izuku flinched at the harsh words and saw a flash of when he and Katsuki were younger. It was so easy for the blonde and his friends to beat down the poor greenette before the discovery of his quirk. Surprisingly the image of the scene changed. He saw Mr. Iroh and Kyojuro, his teachers. Looking at the blonde again, Izuku grinned.

'I'm not weak anymore.'

"No Kacchan, You're not the only one who has gotten stronger over the summer. I'm here to prove to you and everyone who doubted me that I can be a great hero."

Katsuki looked surprised that Izuku spoke back rather than scurry away like the old days. This didn't sit well with the explosive blonde as he started to growl in anger. To Katsuki, Izuku's words are saying that the greenette is better than him. He took a step towards Izuku who looked a little surprised at the action.

"You little-"

Before Katsuki could finish his sentence there was a loud intercom screech and a very hyperactive voice talking. Izuku let out a breath that he didn't know he was holding with small wisps of smoke coming out if his mouth. Not noticing thr smoke, he recognized the voice to be Present Mic.

"ALL LISTENERS TAKING THE EXAMS PLEASE HEAD TO YOUR DESIGNATED TEST AREAS! GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND DON'T FORGET TO GO PLUS ULTRA!"

Katsuki growled again before turing and walking away. Izuku could not only see the smoke that came from the blondes hands but he could also smell the sweet aroma of caramel. Before going to his own testing area, the boy widens his eyes in shock. Until now, Izuku didn't notice until he put his arm back down. His hand was on the handle of Kyojuro's katana.

-After the Written Exams-

The written exam wasn't as bad as Izuku thought they were going to be. Sure they were some what difficult, but thanks to his skill in analysis he was able to get above average in most school subjects. He is currently getting changed into his gym wear which consists of a teal and white track suit with again, his red shoes. Kyojuro's sword can be seen strapped to his waist with a black belt and holster as he existed the dressing room. Before he joined the other teens for the physical exams, somone stopped him.

"Exuse me, but have you registered your sword as a support item?"

Izuku looked at the person who asked and gasped. The man standing before him is the underground hero: Eraser Head. Taking a moment to understand the question, he felt his stomach drop. Izuku dropped his head and sighed sadly.

"No, I wasn't aware that I had to register my katana as a support item."

Letting out a grunt, the man held out his hand. He looked somewhat sorry for the situation but still seemed to care less. Izuku took out Kyojuro's blade from the holster and handed it to the man. Before he let go he looks Eraser Head in the eyes and says calmly but with an edge.

"Please take care of it. It's a treasure I hold close to me."

The man raises an eye brow but nods at him. Izuku continues on his way for the physical part of the exams, following the other teens. He feels some what off balance without the blade on his hip. As he gathers with the other teens into an area that is a giant door with walls surrounding an arena. Izuku recognizes this as the fake city that Present Mic explained how the physical exams would go.

-Flash Back-

Izuku sat in a dark room surrounded by many other teens who are taking part in the exam. Fortunately for him, he sat in a spot where he can see Katsuki ahead of him. Present Mic stood on a small stage in front of everyone and began to explain the rules.

"ALRIGHT LISTENERS, WHO'S READY TO GET THIS PARTY STARTED?!?"

All the teens stayed quiet as the hero sweat dropped and let out a small pout. The screen behind the man then showed the image of a fake city with dark outlines of what seem to be battle robots. After the awkward introduction Present Mic pointed towards the screen and shouted more, using his quirk to apply his voice so that everyone can hear.

"EACH MOCK CITY WILL BE FILLED WITH VILLIAN BOTS FOR EVERYONE TO DESTROY FOR POINTS. THERE IS A THREE POINT SYSTEM FOR DEFEATING VILLAIN BOTS THAT ARE MORE DIFFICULT-"

Before he could finish explaining the exam, a boy who looked to be a little older than Izuku raised his hand and shouted back.

"Exuse me sir but in the handouts that we all got, it says that their will be four different villain bots! I truley hope that this isn't a mistake from a school such as high as U.A!

Once Izuku got a better look at the boy, he let out an amused snort. The other boy has short blue hair fashioned nicely. He is wearing a really nice pair of glasses that match the expensive clothing that consists of brown silk pants, a fancy button up with a vest over it. He looks to be someone who expects everything to be right or not at all. Present Mic let out a chuckle as he pointed to the screen and it showed a fourth villain bot silhouette.

"DON'T YOU WORRY LITTLE LISTENER THE PAMPHLETS WERE CORRECT IN ALL THE INFORMATION GIVEN! THERE ARE FOUR VILLAIN BOTS BUT THE LAST ONE IS WORTH ZERO POINTS AND IS MORE OF AN OBSTACLE. HONESTLY I'D JUST AVOID IT."

The screen focused on the city again, flashing through different areas. Izuku along with everyone else is impressed that the school has enough money to make and rebuild a whole fake city. Present Mic continued to explain how the wanna be heroes are only meant to attack the villain bots and not other teens while Izuku tried to memorize the areas shown on the screen.

-Flash Back End-

The crowd of teens just like himself are all in their gym wear or if they didn't have anything to keep safe from their quirk, the school provided a gym uniform with stronger material. Izuku slowly made it to the front of the group making sure not to bump into anyone while on his way. No one talked to eachother, probably trying to hype themselves up for the exam. To his surprise when he finally got to the caution line from the giant door, he saw familiar purple hair. Slightly smiling to himself, Izuku begins to walk over to greet her before a strong hand grabs onto his shoulder.

"What do you plan on doing? She's clearly trying to concentrate on the exam. If you're hear to distract the other potential heroes then I suggest you leave."

Izuku recognizes the voice of the boy who tried to call out Present Mic and sighed. Personally to the greenette, he has developed an annoyance for those who just grab people out of anger or malice. Too many times has he been tackled to the ground or burned by katsuki's hands after causing explosions all day. Feeling his anger start to rise, Izuku then remembered what Iroh told him.

'Make a friend before you make an enemy.'

The boy looks surprised that he would talk to him like that. Realizing that what he just did may come off as rude to others, his face flushed and he bowed deeply. It was kinda of odd, because Izuku had never seen anyone bow so perfectly in a ninety degree angle.

"I do apologize, how very rude of me."

"I-It's fine just don't touch people without asking and be a lil more kinder when you talk please."

The boy gets up from his bow and nods. He holds out his hand in respect. Before Izuku can accept the hand and shake it, an alarm went off and the giant doors started to open. All the teens instantly got into running positions waiting for the start of the physical portion of the exams. Izuku took in a breath as he waited in his stance. Even though he is swordless, he is still in the first form stance of flame breathing. Present Mic's next words then through everyone off their game a bit.

"WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!? THERE ARE NO COUNT DOWNS IN REAL LIFE! GO! GO! GO!"

Everyone started running into the city. The boy that Izuku was talking too basically vanished on the spot with what he assumed to be a speed quirk. Izuku felt the familiar rush of power as he too started to run into the fake city. As he ran he started to catch up to the other teens who entered first and even surpassed them. The boy is no where to be seen though.

'Let's see, the images on the screen showed that the middle of the city shouldn't be too far from me now.'

Izuku thought to himself as he kept running. He had to jump over the occasional car or dash under a sign or two but it just showed how much better he's gotten with total concentration. He recognized a tall building that connected to another through a high hallway. Stopping to catch his breath he looked around the street he's on and saw no other teens. Izuku then hears the sound of moving machinery and metal crushing concrete. Two human sized robots with the number one painted on their bodies slowly made their way towards him.

"Finally, I've been waiting for this part all day!"

Izuku says excitedly as he rushes towards the villain bots. He got a closer look at them and saw that one robot is using a sword and sheild while the other is unarmed. Once he got close enough, Izuku threw two punches at the unarmed one that sent balls of fire at it's face causing slight damage. The robot with the sword attacked with a downward slash that he easily side stepped using both his hands in a pushing motion Izuku sent a large wave of flames at the armed robot. Both robots took heavy damage from the attack and collapsed with smoke coming out of the openings from the metal.

"Huh, these ones aren't too different. They probably get harder to take down the higher the points are."

He turns around to find more villain bots but ends up stepping on the sword that one of the robots was using. Izuku then thinks back to what Kyojuro said to him during his training. A sword may not always be available for him to use. Even his own quirk my put others at risk. He nods to himself at the realization of his words.

'I need to push myself in this exam and use all my abilities.'

He takes a breath and starts to run down a random street where more villain bots can be seem roaming. He leaps high into the air and swings his fist infront of his body that sends an arch of fire at three robots close together. Once he lands one of the other robots tries to swing a mechanical fist at him but he narrowly dodges the strike and uses the robots momentum to throw it at the three he just burned. Before he could send another attack he heard someone shouting behind him and saw something pretty strange.

Flying around in the sky is a two pointer villain bot in the shape of a giant bird, but that isn't the strange part. On the back of the robotic bird is a teen who looks like she's having trouble steering the thing. After she manged to hit the killswitch on the back the robot fell mid-flight but the girl continued to float. Izuku had to do a double take because the girl's body seemed to be floating in separated parts. Then he saw a boy swinging around buildings with what appeared to be tape coming out of his large elbows?

'Dang, didn't take long for the other's to catch up to me.'

Izuku thought to himself. He was really hoping that the plan of separating himself from the group would work better. A three pointer with a larger body spotted Izuku and started to charge at him. He breaths out and runs towards the three pointer jumping over the robot and using his flames to cover his heel as he brings it down on the head. The metal piece flew away as it burned brightly. More villain bots are seen coming out of various hiding spots. Smiling to himself as he covered his hands in fire, he ran towards the challenge.

-In The Watch Box-

Aizawa is a man of many talents. Unfortunately for him one of those talents is knowing a problem child when you see one...or a few. He stands to the left side of a chair as Present Mic is standing on the right. Sitting in the chair is what appears to be a small bear, dog, thing with a scar going down it's left eye. Something to notice about this odd animal is that it is wearing a suit and holding a cup of tea with a smile.

"Seems like we have quite the batch of young heroes this year don't you think, Eraser?"

The creature asked the tall man. Aizawa otherwise known as the Underground Hero: Eraser Head, stared out the window and looked at the monitors every now and then watching the exam. He nodded in slight agreement and grunted. Present Mic playfully rolled his eyes at his tired friend and chuckled. The three continued to watch the teens do what they can when the door opened with heavy footsteps.

"Sorry I'm late gentlemen, but there was some trouble on the way here this morning."

The Symbol of Peace stood in front of them in all his muscled glory. His face radiated with that clear white smile of his...until he basically vanished in a ploom of smoke. Neither of the trio had a visible reaction to the display but there is a feeling of worry and regret. All Might could be heard coughing a lung out as he leaned against the door. Blood can be seen leaking from his mouth as he breathed heavily.

"You really need to use your time more sparingly. We have other heroes working the streets so that you can use what time you have left as a teacher remember?"

Aizawa told him. All Might looked outside the window but nodded nonetheless. With what happened to him in that battle all those years ago, he never thought that it would end like this. Feeling like he's trapped inside an hourglass untill he finds the next person to carry his power. Nezu stood up in his chair and motioned for Mic to turn it around so he is facing All Might. The little bear's smile is unchanging and a bit disturbing to most if they are honest.

"Yes, Eraser is correct. You have to keep your hero form for the students. Anyone who may discover your condition could be trouble."

All Might nodded again. His focus is still on the screens that showed different locations of the mock city. He saw a few interesting teens displaying their quirks and strategies.

"... Interesting..."

-Back With Izuku-

Izuku stood on top of a small pile of one and two pointers. The villain bots are burning and falling apart from his powerful flames. He managed to rack up forty points with the amount of villain bots he's taken down. He looks around and notices the lack of other bots around him. The other exam takers are also trying to find more bots to destroy.

'I should probably get a bird's eye view.'

He thought to himself. He runs down a street towards a small convenient store. After taking a breath he leaps into the air with the added power of total concentration and lands on the roof of the store. Deciding that the store isn't high enough he runs to the taller building on the side of the store. When he gets to the wall he leaps again. Once his foot touches the wall he uses his flames from his hands to propel himself upward while running up the wall. Once he gets to the roof he lands on the edge.

Izuku hears something coming towards him and sees a flying three pointer charging at him. Getting an idea he gets ready for the villain bot to get closer. Once it gets near him he raises his hands with a wall of fire forming. The bot changes direction and Izuku jumps from the building onto the bot. He lets out a panicked yell as it tries to throw him off.

He tried to steer the bot into a new location away from the other teens. While he flew through the air shouting, other students watched him in curiosity. Guessing that he's flown far enough he looks around for a place to land. He sees a group of one and two pointers gathered around somone not too far from him. He inhales quickly and pulls off the head of the bot making it power down. He hangs onto the bot while it falls closer to the other bots.

"Watch out!"

Izuku jumps off the bot while sticking out his palms so his flames can slow down his fall. The person who was surrounded jumped out of the way from the oncoming bot as it crashed into the group. Izuku ran up to the person and noticed their familiar purple hair.

"Jirou?"

He asked a bit surprised as he reached out a hand to help her up. She also looked up in surprise and took his hand to stand up. She wore a purple work out hoodie with black track pants and a pair of purple converse.

"Oh, hey it's you Midoriya. Fancy meeting you here huh?"

He smiles at her and nods in agreement. He honestly didn't think much of their first meeting other than it was his first interaction with a girl his age.

"I could say the same. I'm happy to see you here like you said. Any luck in getting points?"

Before she said anything she sent one of her earphone jacks past his head and into a one pointer bot. He then watched in surprise as the bot spasmed violently before malfunctioning and falling to the ground. He looked back at her in shock before smiling again to which she returned the gesture.

"That would be my twenty fourth point. Not doin so bad I think."

Before Izuku could say anything more to the girl there was a crashing sound that echoed throughout the mock city. Everyone turned to see where the sound came from. To the shock of everyone, there is a villain bot that is almost bigger than the skycrapers around them. Not wanting to take any chances everyone started running away from the giant villain bot. Izuku turns to Kyouka and points to run.

"I think that's the zero pointer Present Mic mentioned! we have to avoid it!"

They both started to run in the opposite direction of the bot. Izuku noticed that he would definitely out run her so he did the first thing that came to mind; he ran up behind her and scooped her up bridal style. She looked at him shocked but before she could say anything she heard something strange. Izuku took in a breath and his speed increased to where he started gaining distance from the giant bot. As the villain bot got into the city it crashed into the buildings, sending debris everywhere.

"Look out!"

Jirou shouted just as Izuku jumped to the side. A large piece of concrete crashed at where he just was. He looks to the side and notices that the bot is only moving in one direction. Taking another breath he takes large leaps still holding Jirou to get on the side of the villain bot. Once they are both out of the way he sets her down.

"Sorry about that. Are you ok?"

Izuku asks Jirou. She nods slowly still watching the giant bot walk by. He takes a moment to catch his breath as he too watches it. She looks back at him and punches his arm lightly.

"Thanks for the save green."

He blushes a bit at the nickname but still smiles. He looks at her face and notices her hair seems to have a sound wave design that made it look cute. Before he could say anything someone can be heard shouting for help. They both turn in the direction of the cry but can't see anything.

"Someone needs help. We have to do something!"

Jirou said, mimicking Izuku's thoughts. They both run ahead to see what is going on. Further away Izuku can see someone is trapped by fallen debris. To make it worse the giant robot is heading in their direction and isn't stopping. Izuku tries to pick up the pace but is too far back to make any real distance.

'Why isn't anyone trying to help her? what are the teachers doing? I'm not fast enough!'

Starting to panic, Izuku felt his heart beat getting faster and faster. His lungs ached from the strain of total concentration and the use of his fire bending. Just as he was about to lose hope he felt something different. It's like the air around him is buzzing and each step is more powerful than the last. Suddenly he felt the jolt of thousands of volts of electricity flow through his body. Everyone in the mock city turned in confusion at the sound of thunder striking but no clouds in sight.
