chapter 2…. Part 1 of 2
Not that long after Alvin started resting, Dave was in the living room starting to lecture his kids when someone came knocking on the front door.
"Don't even think about moving off the couch guys, because I still want some answers. And just because someone is knocking the front door, doesn't mean I'm done giving everyone a lecture either. Because I really want to know how or why Alvin even got his ears tagged in the first place. Especially since it's all five of your responsibility to watch Alvin all day long." Said Dave stating the obvious.
"I now know how Alvin feels whenever he got a lecture." Whispered Simon quietly to everyone on the couch.
"Yeah, no kidding." One of them said quietly to Simon.
"This is the pits." Said Brittany.
"We're probably gonna get grounded after the lecture. Aren't we?" Theodore piped in with his own two cents.
"You think?" Eleanor spoke making a statement.
All of them then agreed they really should have watched Alvin way better than they did on the first day of school.
"Oh hi!" (…Dave sighted after seeing his next door neighbor with a 'NOT' so happy smile. Also the kids principal from school…) "What did Alvin do this time Mr Talbert and how much trouble is he in?" Was Dave's first words out of his mouth instead of… ' Oh hi Mr Talbot, how are you today? What can I do for you and can I get you something.'
"Humm…. Did I come at bad time Dave."
"Oh no Mr Talbert you came at a perfect swell time. In fact, I'm so happy with all my happy bunch right now, that I don't know what do with myself. Which is why they're all sitting on the couch waiting very patiently to be excused. And can't you just see there happy excited faces to see you here."
'Yep! We definitely are so doomed right now.' Thought the chipmunks after seeing there own principal at Dave's house.
"Actually for once Dave, Alvin's not in trouble this time." Said Talbot in a gentle firm tone.
"What!? What now!? Can you please repeat that for me? Because I don't think I heard you correctly and I think you spoke in my bad ear." Dave commented as he rubbed his ear.
"Dave! Your hearing is just fine and you heard me right the first time. I'm actually here for your umm….happy bunch sitting on the couch. Because I'm very, very disappointed in all five of them today.
"Oh I see." Dave said as he took a quick glance at his kids sitting on the couch. "So what did my happy bunch do to get themselves noticed by the principal and to have him come over to my house this after noon."
"Well before I get into that, how's Alvin really feeling and is he really doing ok?" Asked Talbot feeling sorry for Alvin.
"Well the royal princess rabbit from China is a little tired and is resting. And I'm going to make a vet appointment tomorrow morning to have his ear tags removed and to have the rest him checked out. I just wanna make sure Alvin really is ok. Especially coming home with ear tags and earrings in his poor rabbit ears."
"Princess rabbit from China?" Talbot asked with a questionable look as he raise his left eyebrow.
"Oh? So you don't know huh. Well he's resting in the other room with a small blanket." Dave said as he pointed where Alvin is at.
"I see. I'll take a quick peek and I'll try not to wake him up." Talbot said as he took a quick look.
And when Talbot saw how Alvin was dresses this time, he was a little speechless and he felt really bad for Alvin even more.
"Oh my! Alvin really does look like a real royal princess rabbit from China!" Stated Talbot before continuing. "And Brittany, I think you went just a little bit overboard with your best friend and which you need to learn some self-control… And on top of that, did you really have to put so much pink earrings in his poor ears. One or two would've been more than just plenty you know. But five is over kill. And did you really have to torture him by painting his nails pink too." Stated Talbot with great disappointment as he pointed at Brittany.
"…" Brittany just remain silent and didn't dear correct her principal, also her neighbor and her babysitter, from time to time.
"Yeah and thats what I just about said too before getting corrected by 'miss pink princess power the third' sitting on the couch looking at the floor. Brittany had to inform me that the earrings are strawberry color and not pink. And I'm afraid to even ask what color his nails are painted at and I have no idea what's the difference between pink and strawberry." Said Dave making a statement.
'Theres a big difference in color guys. Pink is pink and strawberry is well… strawberry color.' Thought Brittany and Eleanor to themselves?
"Pink…strawberry or whatever color they may be. It's still a bit tooo much and over kill if you ask me." Said Talbot as he started pacing back-and-forth in front of the couch where five chipmunks were sitting. "And guys, you all should be very, very ashamed of yourselves today. Because all five of you managed to make Alvin late all day long for all for his classes. And it's not his fault that he can't keep up with everyone in school. And on top of all that, there was the kidnapping incident from the zoo today." Said Talbot giving every one that look on the couch.
"What!? What kidnapping and how is Alvin involved?" Dave asked cutting in right after Talbot spoke as he was a little shocked to hear the news.
"Oh I see. Your happy bunch didn't tell you or what happened yet. Well you see….….….…and that what happened and thats how Alvin got his ears tagged at the petting zoo. And its a good thing Alvin's so vocal or otherwise, he would have been taken right out the gate."
Talbot continued. "As for school today, I managed to persuade all of Alvin's teachers to cut him some slack because of him being late. And which his teachers all agreed it really wasn't Alvin's fault for being late. And all of his teachers all agreed that his brothers and adopted sisters should have helped Alvin way better than they did today. So Alvin no longer has an hour of detention to do tomorrow. But maybe one heck of lecture coming from me will be good enough to—" Said Talbot before getting interrupted by Dave.
"Not good enough and sorry for interrupting you Talbot. So please let me explain better. I think my happy bunch should do the detention themselves for Alvin. After all they should be held responsible for their actions. Just like Alvin would be held for his actions if he did something wrong at school. So all five should do the detention everyday for this week and I want to make a point at the same time."
"But Dave, thats not fair to do that to the rest of us." Said one of them with there own two cents without even thinking.
"I think it was an hour and a half as a matter of fact that Alvin had to do instead."
"Hey thats even more detention than before." Another one complained after hearing more detention.
"Nope! Nope! I was wrong again. I really believe it was two hours that Alvin had too do now! Now that I come to think about it even more. After all, I am getting older and getting more forgetful." Said Talbot rubbing his chin while thinking.
"Does anyone wanna shoot for three hours today?" Dave asked his happy bunch sitting on the couch."
"NO!" All five chipmunks shouted all once.
"Um…two hours is good sir. Because we really like two hours of detention instead, don't we guys?" Stated Simon who was hugging everyone on the couch. And of course, everyone agreed with happy pretend faces. Although if you really ask them truthfully, non of them were happy at all and didn't want to do detention for two hours everyday for the whole entire week. But they really don't wanna shoot for more detention hours either.
"That what I thought and I want this to be a lasting punishment for all of you guys. So when I say this, I believe I'm being very, very generous today when dishing your guys punishment out. So thats what your punishment will be for the week and everyone is grounded for the whole week. So everyone comes straight home after doing detention. understand." Said Dave statement making a statement.
"We do Dave, we understand." Said one of the girls sitting on the couch while the boys listened.
"And to add more of a possible future punishment. If Alvin or anyone of you guys are even late just for one minute in school, all five of you get an automatic Saturday detention for six hours with me and I 'just love' doing Saturday detention with my students. Especially if it's on a nice sunny day when someone could be golfing instead. So I will be seeing all five of you this whole week for detection at school. Understand. If thats ok with you Dave."
"No, no thats good with me and I think thats plenty of fair. With the exception of Alvin having some personal needs in the bathroom with someone helping him in the bathroom."
"I can accept that as an excuse if it ever happens in school and I will let the teachers know that Alvin has special bathroom privileges."
Dave notices his kids faces in how they were acting. So he had to say something.
"Guy's, I know you're thinking I'm being very un fair and hard about your punishment. But…" Said Dave as he trailed off unsure how to explain it better.
"I think I know where your going with this Dave. So please allow me to explain it for you." Said Talbot to Dave before turning his attention to the chipmunks. "What Dave and I are asking. All five of you need to make sure Alvin makes it to class on time… Considering he's a pet rabbit and can't keep up with everyone. So the job falls on your guy's shoulder to help out more and it's not just one person's job to do that all the time either."
Talbert continued. "Like for instant and I'll use Theodore and Eleanor as an example. Theodore and Eleanor, you may have your cooking class in one room, but Alvin has his class in another room that's somewhat close to your cooking class. Then take Alvin with you and drop him off at his class, then go to your class. But however if Brittany and Alvin have the same class together, then it's her job to make sure Alvin makes it to class on time. And this could change throughout the day with all five of you. As a group, it's all five of your responsibility to help Alvin. As an individual, the job falls on there shoulder to help Alvin to class on there way to class. Now does anyone have something to say about what I said?"
"Actually…that makes sense and we understand the circumstances of the punishment. Especially since Alvin is forced to stay living as a pet for the rest of his life." Said Simon feeling even more guilty about the situation before thinking. 'I should have never made those stupid videos with Brittany and posting them on YouTube or my blog in the first place. Because that was the biggest mistake I've ever made. And now Alvin has to pay the price for the rest of his life.'
"Wait a minute here! What does Simon mean Alvin is stuck living as a pet for life. Because I thought this was only a temporary situation that Alvin had to do…or stay as a pet for a little while." Said Eleanor.
"Yeah me too." Asked Brittany after her little sister.
"Mm—hmm" Mummed Jeanette who wanted to know as well.
"Me three! Because I'd like to know as well?" Asked Mr Talbot.
"Dave?" Asked Simon looking at him to inform everyone.
"Simon is right guys and here, I will let you girls read the letter yourselves." Dave said handing them the first page to read, but not the other page for other reasons before hand it back to Dave. And after words, the girls felt bad for Alvin. Especially Brittany the most.
'Is it really our fault about the whole thing when we got carried away with the YouTube videos. And blackmailing Alvin into what we wanted him to say on the videos? Is it really our fault that we caused all of this to happen to Alvin and make him stay living as a pet for life… And then there's my stupid, stupid, stupid blog postings with the stupid, stupid videos too. I should have never posed anything about what me and Simon did to Alvin… Talbert is right, I do need to learn lots of self-control.' Thought Brittany after reading the government page letter and feeling very guilty about her actions.
"Here you go Talbot." Dave spoke handing him two pages to read, including what Alvin can be.
"I see! Then it's official by court order. Alvin has to stay living as a pet for life no mater what. Then I have one other requesting to ask and something very special for Theodore. I'd like to see Alvin get to stay as the same kind of a pet for the remainder of the school year. Because I believe it would be better and easier for everyone if Alvin got to say the same thing. It also would be easer for school and his studies and his teachers if they knew what to expect to see Alvin as. So the group has to decide what kind of a pet Alvin can stay as by the end of September. And if and if no one can't decide by then, then I will make the decision myself and Alvin will stay as the same pet of my choosing." Talbot said making a very firm hard demand.
"…" The chipmunks silently, just sat there looking not so happy with Talbot because of his request.
Talbot continued. "Here let me explain better kids and I'm not trying to take your fun from Alvin being the pet. So if Alvin has to stay as a pet rabbit for the whole school year. Then that puts lots of extra work on everyone's shoulder and it would take… You may not have the time to do other activities you guys might like doing. Like cheerleading for one. Or cooking, sports, or even playing chess as a school activity after school and not to mention there's soccer as well. Because everyone would be very busy helping Alvin a lot and wouldn't have time for themselves."
"Oh. So you're saying if we can make Alvin's life super easer as our pet. With him able to keep up with us as our pet in school…all while still having our little fun with Alvin as our pet. Really puts a whole lot less work on ours shoulders and gives us more time to do cheerleading after school." Stated Eleanor with her own to cents
"Well for me it would be Chess and other activities like that." Spoke Simon after Eleanor.
"It would give me more time to do the school paper and I like doing that sorta thing." Jeanette added her thoughts.
"And we all could play soccer together. Including Alvin somehow as our pet." Said Theodore realizing where this was going.
"Ok, ok I admit it. It would be easer for me too. Because… Well… There's an activity I want to do after school and I'm NOT saying what it is, but it is for school." Brittany said while admitting Talbot was right.
"That's correct kids. So everyone has to decide what kind of a pet Alvin can stay as by the end of September. With the exception of an activity from the school drama, that might require for a temporary change. Like a school play or something like that and that would give you kids your fun with Alvin. But once the activity is over for school, I'd like to see Alvin go back to what the group has decided." Said Talbot tricking the chipmunks in to taking it way easier with their fun with Alvin as a pet.
"Talbot is right guys. It would be easier for everyone if he got to stay as the same pet for a while. Especially for school and everyone still has there studies for school."
"And if I may ask kids, whose turn is it next for Alvin as a pet? Because I kinda lost track this summer when who was taking there turn." Asked Talbot who wanted to know and for how long.
"Well it's… It's really Eleanor's turn next. But her turn won't be for another week." Said Simon more or less giving up his turn for other reasons. You see, Simon really wanted his turn to be next. But between the guilt, what happened today and the official government letter. He decided not to say anything and to give Alvin a little bit of a break until his turn came again.
"I see, so Alvin has the rest of this week of being a pet rabbit. Then I will make some accommodations for him at school. And Dave, please bring Alvin the royal princess rabbit from China to school before you have him check out by the Vet Doctor. One, I want to talk to him about his classes and two. Floyd Dotson the dramatic drama teacher wants to have a short chat with him as well. He said something about using him in several up coming plays and wants to ask Alvin if he's interested."
"I will see what I can do tomorrow, but no promises. And thanks for coming over in telling me what really happened today. Because I think my happy bunch might have stretched the truth a bit far. So I will see you tomorrow morning with everyone when I droop them off at your office." Said Dave.
"No problem Dave and Theodore," said Talbot as he walked in front of him. "I would like a six page report on how to take care of a pet and a full demonstration that you will do in front of mrs. Smith class on Friday. The report and demonstration is all due this Friday morning in Mrs. Smith class. And your report and demonstration will be graded. So I expect at least a B+ grade and your grade reflects on Alvins grade at the same time. So if you get a C-, then Alvin get a C- with you…understand. So if it was me, I'd be wanting a A+ grade on your report and demonstration no mater what." Spoke Talbert doing a 45° stand leaning forwards Theodore face.
When Talbot did that, it really freaked out everyone in the room, including Dave. And poor Theodore just about passed out from being so intimidated like that.
"And Simon," Said Talbert doing a 45° stand leaning forward towards him now. "I know how you write. So you can't help your brother write the report for him or you write it out so he can copy it himself. The only thing you and Jeanette can do, do a Spell and grammar check…understand." Said Talbot looking at Simon face to face before returning to his normal upright stand.
"Y…y-yes s…s-sir." Answered Simon as he stuttered his words a little, starting to rub his arms from being so nervous and poor Simon just about piss himself from being so intimidated like that.
And with that, everyone in room had wide eyes, leave themselves speechless. Also mouthing the words…'how in the world?'
"I ummm…." Started Talbot when he saw everyone is staring at him with such wide eyes. "I have traveled a lot during my younger years doing this and that before I became principal at the school." Said Talbot as he was leaving with him thinking to himself. 'Now who do you think taught little Michael Jackson how to do that stand all those years ago when he was only six years old then. And nobody still doesn't knows how I'm able to do the possible 45° stand… Good thing I'v been living for the last several hundred years as a Werewolf. Because only true werewolves can do that stand without any trickery. And yet, I still have no idea how the whole werewolf madness monster ever got started in the first place. We werewolves are our own race and we have a very long lifespan.'
"Ok guys, it's homework time for everyone in your bedrooms and Brittany, remain glued to the seat. Because there's more I want to talk to you about in private with you. And Eleanor, we will have that worm talk. But in the mean time, it's homework and when finished. Just stay in your room until supper time, and this applies to everyone."
"Ok Dave." Said one of the happy bunch before going to their room to do homework. And likewise, everyone left to do homework leaving Brittany alone on the couch."
"Brittany! You know you went too far don't you."
"…" Brittany decided just to remain silent and not say anything for the moment.
"Well whats done is done and you can't change the past. So instead of trying to punishing you even more. I'm going to give you two different kinds of a punishment that you will keep doing. One! You will keep Alvin's poor ears clean for the next several weeks to come and you will clean his ears several times a day, every day for the next four months. Understand?
"I do Dave." Said Brittany feeling better about her punishment until she heard more.
"Thats good! And if you don't keep his ears clean, you will become a very bright neon green chipette wearing diapers to school. And I better not find or see anymore permanent accessories attached to Alvin because he's got enough accessories on him now as it is. And if he happens to get another permanent accessory, you will get permanent ear tags attached to both of your ears. And this applies to everyone and not just you."
Dave continued. "And Brittany, I want you to really mellow down on your fun with Alvin ok. So I want you to give him a break for the rest of the week. So try to… If you must get him more outfits to wear, then do so as long he can handle it and not be so humiliating for him to wear. And on another note of that same subject. If Alvin becomes another pet and has nothing else to wear….Then I will allow him to get more outfits. But they have to be something he can be ok with and not look like some princess either."
Dave continued more. "Kinda like if I forced you to wear baby clothing with a red diaper showing to school for everyone to see and how would you feel if that happened?"
"I'd be really upset and humiliated as school." Spoke Brittany in a very sad voice looking at the floor.
"That's what I mean and talking about with Alvin. And you need to be reminded Alvin still is your friend OK."
"I um…"
"That's what I thought. So for the rest of this week as part of your punishment, no shopping, no makeup, no phone, no TV or video games, no blog, you get to do nothing in your bedroom except to read and your punishment will end Friday night to Saturday morning. When you come home, you get to do nothing. And so you know Brittany, this applies to everyone else and not just you…ok."
"Ok Dave." Said Brittany keeping it simple while understanding where Dave was going.
"Now back to Alvin's poor ears with all the pink…strawberry dangly earrings. I still want you to keep them clean as much as possible and try to find some way to make it up to him. And make sure he understands you're not trying to torture him even more than what he already got today."
"Ok Dave and I promise to make up to Alvin. In fact, would it be alright if I removed all his strawberry nail polish and removed the dangly part of the earrings? Then maybe redress him like he was this morning…. Oh and help him with his homework later when he's not so cranky with everyone" Said Brittany as she showed Dave that some of her homework was still on her phone.
"I think that's a good start Brittany and yes you may use your phone then. But only for the zoo part assignment and I expect it to be handed back to me when the zoo assignment is completed."
"I will and I promise. You can even watch me while I help Alvin with the zoo assignment."
"Ok I believe you Brittany. Now get going on your homework and ask your sisters for help if you need any help ok."
"Ok Dave and I will ask." Said Brittany as she left to do her homework with her sisters.
After talking with Brittany, Dave decided to talk with Alvin again. And maybe this time he won't be so crabby.
"Hey Alvin," Said Dave waking Alvin up from his short nap. "We need to talk and I need you to hear me out this time, ok."
"Ok Dave." Said Alvin letting several yawns after waking up from sleeping, but still bit upset with what he heard."
"So…how was school today?" Dave asked his son as a way to start an easy conversation between them.
"Well it really wasn't fun and I was late all day long. And I got an hours worth of detention to do tomorrow after school. And before you lecture me why…it really wasn't my fault. And the reason why I got detention in the first place, I was late for all my classes today. And I'm sorry I was—" Said Alvin being truthful before getting interrupted by Dave.
"Hey, hey take it easy and it's ok, ok." Said Dave cutting in and getting his son to calm down.
"Huh? So you're not mad and… But you always give me a lecture whenever I get detention in school. So what changed?" Asked a confused Alvin.
"Now that I can explain and so you know, you no longer have detention anymore. Because your brothers and the girls will be doing your detention for you every day for the rest of this week. In fact, they actually earn themselves two hours detention every day for the whole entire week."
"Huh? What happened when I was sleeping and did I wake up in the wrong house or something." Said Alvin trying to figure out what happened.
"No Alvin you didn't wake up in the wrong house ok. But what did happened was when I was starting to give everyone a lecture, mr Talbot came by. And no Alvin, you're not in trouble with him. But he did ask how you were feeling. And afterwards, he explained everything including the kidnapping from the zoo today. So thats why everyone got detention for the whole week and they got extra detention for not watching you like how they were supposed to be doing." Said Dave in a calm voice."
"Oh? Then you already know why I was late then…which explains why you're not upset with me because of getting detention, or me getting a lecture from you either. But if you already knew that, then why ask me anyways?" Said Alvin looking at Dave for answers.
"Well I wanted to start an easy conversation between us without you getting upset in the process. And before we begin talking, let me remove your bonnet that's red and white on your head first ok. Because I think you might feel better without that silly thing on."
'…' thought Alvin to himself as he waited for Dave to remove his bonnet.
And when Dave removed the bonnet that was wrapping around Alvin's ears, Alvin kept on moving his ears around and wiggling them for a few minutes before laying them down on his sides like other rabbits would when they are not very happy."
"I take it you feel better with you moving your ears around. At least now they don't stand straight up like they were.
"Sorry Dave. It's just that I… I'm just embarrassed about having pink earrings in my poor ears is all. And yeah, it does feel better to move my ears around again and not be forced to stand up right all the time like they wore." Said Alvin moving and twitchy his ears again.
"At least you're being more honest and truthfully Alvin… You don't look that bad with your earrings in your ears. At least your ears are large enough to make a good balance for the look with earrings. And I hate to say it, but you still have to let your family have their fun with you as their pet, including me 'Miss Blossom Flopsy Rosie Snuggles.'" Said Dave as he was petting Alvin.
"But Dave?" Said Alvin as he whined a little bit.
"No Alvin and no "ifs," "ands," "could I"or "buts," about this. This is something you're gonna have to accept and come to terms with no matter what and I'm sorry, but this is for real and you're stuck as the pet for life and which I will get into that little bit later, ok. But I have asked everyone to slow down on the funness with you as there pet. Because right now school has started and education is very important to have."
Dave continued. "But I'm sure it'll get easier for you once you really get in to being a pet later. Because I'm sure you'll find someway to have your fun in your own way, while annoying your family at the same time. Because you always have found some way to have fun in the past."
Dave continued more. "So you're just gonna have to deal with it and you don't have much of a choice in what the family decides for you to be anymore . So you're gonna have to accept this fate no matter what and you have to let your family have their fun with you as the families pet. understand 'Miss Blossom Flopsy Rosie Snuggles.'"
"But Dave, I don't wanna be a pet or look pretty with pretty dangly earrings! Especially with pink ones in my ears. It's embarrassing and… Please Dave." Said Alvin getting upset while try not to get so worked up
"I'm sorry Alvin, you're gonna have to keep them in your ears for a while ok."
"…" Alvin stayed silent looking not so happy with the decision.
"Hey Alvin… How can I make it easer for you to accept having earrings in your ears for a while. And I also want to hear what your vet says about the earrings and ear tags tomorrow morning. Because I'm having your ear tags removed by your vet. And if your vet doctor says to leave your earrings be in your ears and thats more likely what he's going to say anyways. Then thats what we'll do until they've healed."
"Well… I definitely want those stupid ear tags in my poor ears removed for one. And two… Your gonna make me go to the vets no matter what I say." Said Alvin being disappointed.
"Thats correct Alvin, you're still going no mater what. But you're only going because I want him to do a very thorough check over you and you already have gotten your yearly shots last month. As for your earrings is concerned, Brittany will be keeping your ears clean as much as possible all day long. Because I don't want you to get any infections until you see your vet. And most likely, your vet probably will tell you to keep your ears clean anyways for a few months."
"Does it really have to be Brittany that keeps my poor ears clean. Because knowing her, she'll probably want to do something else to me later with her so called funniness. Because I can see it all now before my eyes. You'll soon see me in a lovely hot pink girly frilly dress with lots more accessories attached to me."
Dave sighted and shook his head for a few minutes before speaking. "Alvin I promise Brittany won't do anything like that to you. So I'm asking you to give her a chance latter today when she is helping you do your homework. And I have asked her to give you a brake. And besides, I've already told Brittany to leave you be for the rest of the week until the weeknd. And she knows what will happen to her if she disobeys my orders."
"Ok Dave I'll give Brittany a chance." Said Alvin shaking his head with his ears.
"Now about your earrings and I know you don't like the ones you got. But you did and have asked me several—hundred—times before to get them pierced. And now that they are pierced, I'm going to make you keep them until your ears have healed."
Dave continued. "But however I can try to make it easier for you to accept having earrings in your ears all the time. Like maybe getting you some red ones or even some awesome looking ones you really like latter on. So for right now, I want you to really think about your earrings ok."
"…" Alvin stayed silently as he shook head with his ears again. And Alvin knew Dave was right. Because Alvin did ask several hundred times before about getting his ears pierced. And maybe having red earrings might make Alvin feel better.
"Hey Alvin, let's talk about something else for a bit and by the way 'Miss Blossom Flopsy Rosie Snuggles,' you look very tired."
"Well yeah I'm still very tired Dave. But thats because I probably hopped around 14,000 times today. Well maybe not that much, but it sure did feel like that much though." Said Alvin letting off a few more yawns."
"Well I'm sorry to hear that 'Miss Blossom Flopsy Rosie Snuggles.'"
"Dave! Must you keep calling me that name too. It's bad enough my brothers and the girls insist calling me that. But… (…Alvin sighted…) Can you at least cut me some slack here. Since I'm forced to be the family's pet until the judge makes a decision. And I don't wanna be a pet anymore Dave and I wanna go back being a chipmunk like I was before. So when can I go back being a chipmunk again?"
"Ok Alvin I'll cut you some slack for the pet name and I'm truly am sorry to say this. But you can't ever be a chipmunk ever again and this is why." Said Dave as he showed the government letters to Alvin. And of course Alvin got very upset over it after reading it.
"That's not fair Dave and I hate it. I hate having to be forced to stay living as a pet for life. Can't you do something about it? Can't you maybe get them to reconsider Somehow."
"I know, I know how you must feel Alvin and I wasn't very happy about the decision either that the Supreme Court made. But it is final and there's nothing I cannot do about it. Because the Supreme Court is a highest court in the United States, and like or not, you have to say living as a pet for now on. But because you are a pet…you're a very special pet to your family. So you're gonna have to wear your collar with tags everywhere you go for now on. And your collar with tags allows you to go places where other pets can't go. Plus they also help you stay out of….pet jail. But it may not really be that bad having to live as… or umm…stay living as the family's pet Alvin."
"Really!? Like how so Dave? How is it not that bad? Because from my point of view, it sucks big-time being the pet. I don't have hands and I can't do things for my self like I used to. Can't even play my stupid video games anymore."
When Dave heard that, he kinda expected that from Alvin. So Dave tried another approach to help the situation.
"Well lets talk about all the stuff you can do as a pet."
"Like what?" Alvin said as he folded his rabbit arms together.
"Well for one you can talk for yourself when other pets can't talk at all. You can go anywhere with your family when other pets can't go. You can still sing on stage as the lead singer at all the concerts we do." And so Dave made a list kept on going with it for several minutes.
"Well I guess I can do all those things as the families pet. But it still sucks no matter what.
"Well there is one other thing I do know you can do and it's something you can do yourself anytime and without any help from anyone." Said Dave getting Alvin's attention.
"Well whats that?" Asked Alvin wanting to know where Dave was going with this idea.
"You can always go see a movie whenever you want, when other pets can't do that on their own. And I'll even set it up so your movie tickets are always paid for ok. And maybe this will help you feel better and make you feel you still are family after your ruff day like you had today."
"You'd really do that for me. But what about my brothers and the girls and it Monday now. Because you never would never let me see a movie on a school night. Let alone by myself, and you always make me take my brothers with me to see a movie. Once we've decided what movie to see."
"Alvin! (… Dave sighted…) I know what I said in the past, but things are different now with different rules. So it's important to me that you feel that you're still family no mater what you may be classified as. Family still is family no matter what or how they may look. So…do you want to see a movie right now or not. I'll even let you see a scary movie…as long as it's not too scary, ok."
Dave continued. "And you still need something for yourself. So this movie idea is strictly for your benefit and not your brothers. So if you're feeling a little down about being a pet sometime down the road, then you have my permission to see a movie. But if your brothers want to come, then they may come. But the movie decision is yours alone to make no matter what. Understand?"
When Alvin heard that, he understood where Dave was getting at. And it made Alvin feel better knowing that he still can decide and have a choice.
"Well… Can we see TeenWolf please. I heard it's a pretty good movie to see. And…can I or we see the TeenWolf cartoons tomorrow after school?"
"Ok Alvin we can and one other thing." Dave said when Alvin cut in real quick right after Dave.
"I know, I know. Don't let it go to my head, don't take advantage of the movies, don't rub it in my brothers or the girls because I got or get special movie treatment. And I know you're gonna make me go like how I am. But about the movie… I really, really want to see it more than ever. Even if I have to look like a real royal princess rabbit from China. I still want to see the movie."
"Actually thats not what I was going to say Alvin. What I was going to say was. Try and enjoy the movie, have fun and don't let this whole pet thing get you so down ok. And I think you should do what you just said as well."
"Oh..ok Dave. I'll try and do what you asked."
After hearing that from Alvin, Dave knew Alvin would continue to struggle for a while before he got the hang of accepting he's a pet no matter what. So he added something more to what he just said.
"Hey Alvin… I think what will help you feel better. If we had… How about we have a talk once a week, every week for now on. Kinda like what we just did. I wanna hear the good, the bad, whats bothering and how I can help to make it better. And if you do that, I will take you to whatever movie you want to see as a reward. Plus other fun stuff you may want to do as part as a reward."
Dave continued. "And I just want you to understand and help you feel that you're still family no matter what. So if I have to take you places so you can have fun, then thats something I will do for you. You can look as it a Friday thing that the two of us will be doing together. So what do you say, wanna give it a try this Friday and see how it goes?"
When Dave said that, that's one of the things Alvin always had trouble with and struggle with when telling Dave how his week went. But this time the reward was well worth it in the end.
"Does it also involve me telling you about my schoolwork? And if it does…then I guess it's ok too. So yeah, I'll give it a go."
And After Alvin said that, Dave told Alvin it would always remain privately between them and Alvin would be getting his own personal tablet. It's a way to keep a Journal and a record of what is said every week. And Alvin was ok with that. Plus the reward for doing this with Dave was well worth it to him.
"Hey Alvin before we go see a movie together, I want you to know your tablet is yours to use. So if you did get grounded or in trouble for something. I still won't take it from you. I want you to use your tablet as a way to vent. Especially now because you have to live as a pet. But the only difference's and it's for the moment, I will be typing everything down you say on it for you….until you can figure out how to do this yourself. And I'm pretty confident you'll figure out how to do this yourself. Because if I say it's impossible, you'll find a way to make it possible."
After words, Dave picked up Alvin, then had a short chat with Talbot asking him to watch everyone at the house. Then Dave and Alvin went to the movies together. When Dave got to the movie theater, Dave set it up so Alvin has his movie tickets already paid for up to a certain amount. But Alvin knew he had to be careful and be very conservative with his tab at the theater. Then both of them got their movie tickets and drinks for the show.
When the show was over, Alvin did feel better after watching the movie. In fact, both of them were singing the theme song together on the way home.
"Thanks for making me feel better Dave. Especially after a day like I had today. The movie really helped a lot and thank you for taking me so I can see it. And before 'miss pink princess power the third,' helps me with my homework, I'd like to talk with Theodore first. And it's about me being his pet and all."
"Ok Alvin I get the hint and I'm glad I could help. So I'll send Theodore to you in the study room. So that way both of you can have some privacy together."
A few minutes later Theodore came walking down to see Alvin. And he was rather surprised to see Alvin looking like some royal princess rabbit from China with what he had on. But at the time, Theodore's mind was somewhere else and he was trying to figure out what kind of pet he should write about for his extra homework assignment.
"Theodore, if I'm gonna be your pet rabbit. Then you gotta know how to take care of me better, ok. So look me up.
"But why, you're a talking pet and you can tell me what I need to do for you. And I don't know why I even have to do this in the first place. Because you can just tell me what I need to know and how to take care of you better." Said Theodore not understanding of how it works with having pets.
Theodore! Just look me up OK."
"Ok fine." Said Theodore looking up Alvin. As in…Theodore literally was looking up 'Alvin' on his phone. " The Phone says you're my brother and…..A bunch of other stuff about you."
"Jesus Theodore!" Said Alvin while shaking his back-and-forth. Because he just couldn't believe what his younger brother just did. "If I had hands right now, I'd smack the back of your head hard like Gibbs. So you're lucky on that regards. You're not supposed to literally look me up as your brother. You're post to look up how to take care of a pet rabbit you twit."
"Oh…I guess deserve that don't I." Said Theodore blushing some. "Um here, lemme try this again and….WOW! There's a lot of information on how to take care of you Alvin… I mean how to take care of a pet rabbit. One! How to….….….….…and I've been picking you up the wrong way Alvin. So do you mind me trying one more time."
"Well…ok. But just be careful with me and try not to drop me this time ok." Said Alvin with is a slight hesitant, but he had to give his brother another try.
