Chapter 2: Melodies

"So, how did it go?" A low husk like voice questioned, He sat along the fires that flickered dimly, dying for more wood.

"It was good I guess, Rhaast isn't bickering in my head so." I replied, taking my seat next to him.

"You guess? Did something happen?" The voice questioned more. I smirked, the image of the blue haired girl popping up in my head. "Yessss, Kayn tell him, how you were soft this time and spared two lives." A voice growled in my mind. I rolled my eyes at the voice in my head. "I'm getting there." I thought back, the voice grunted in response.

"Hello?"

"Yes, I heard you.. I was talking with an annoying pest." I sighed before continuing. "I brought a pet." I turned to look at the man.

"A… Pet?" His glowing white eyes narrowed.

"Yes, a girl." I smirked seeing his disgusted face.

"Kayn, you.. What?!" He started getting up, I followed suit and walked in front of him.

"She has this instrument, I feel like it's useful." I started yet he cut me off.

"Great, so you found someone to entertain us? What, for morale?" He hissed, I couldn't help but to laugh at him. He was always so uptight, so strict.

"Her instrument might be part of an artifact we don't know about." I continued. Crossing my arms and staring at him again. He shook his head at me.

"No, you WILL get rid of her." He hissed again. A small gasp was heard behind me. Instinctively I drew my scythe and turned. There in the entrance to the room stood the girl, her instrument glowing giving her a soft almost angelic. Her long hair held in two pigtails floated down to her knees.

"So.. This is the girl." I turned my attention back to the man.

"Yeah." I felt him push past me, walking towards the girl.

"I'm afraid, whatever hope he gave you ends here." I grasped the shadows and melted to the floor and formed in front of him again.

"No can do Varus. She's mine. Unless you want to fight for it, remember what happened last time?" I peaked my head back to glare at the girl. "She didn't listen." I thought bitterly, I guess she didn't value her life. "Or she's just stupid." Rhaast growled in my head. That too, I smiled.

"Kayn. We had an agreement, you know we can't have outsiders with us." Varus started again. He glared at me.

"Having outsiders is a liability to us. Especially if we want to follow through with our plan. What if she escapes and tells the world about us?" He glared at me.

"Well there's something I noticed about her. She doesn't seem to talk. Isn't that right?" I walked over to her and grabbed her arm. Normally any person would cry out or protest. But instead she opened her mouth as if she was. To further prove a point I twisted her arm back and grabbed her face. I heard her gasp out in pain, she looked at me, her eyes begging me to stop. I smirked holding her in this position and turned my head towards Varus.

"See. She can't talk." I laughed, turning my attention back to the girl. Letting go of her face and throwing her onto the ground.

"No matter what I do to her, all she can do is gasp. It's quite pathetic to be honest with you." I laughed more. Varus looked at her then to me.

"She's still a liability to us." he crossed his arms.

"Ok, so what. If she dies she dies." I shrugged continuing.

"I'm just bored really, besides. If she tries anything you have my word I'll dispose of her." I heard him sigh, shaking his head.

"Whatever." Varus retorted. Walking back to his seat in front of the fire. He turned his head towards the girl.

"Does she even have a name?" He stared at her, the girl was rubbing her arm and looking at me again. Her dress was slightly ripped and dirty from the night's event.

"Kinda? Start with an 'S'... I kind of forgot." I went to sit opposite of Varus, both of us staring at the girl.

"Well? What is your name?" He asked again. The girl looked at me and him, before raising her hand up. Her hand was delicate and small, she formed small gestures with her hands.

"Ah, sign language." Varus chuckled again, shaking his head.

"What a sad girl you are." He continued.

"So you know what she said?" I inquired. Watching her, she drew her hands into her lap again glaring at Varus.

"No, and I don't care to learn it." He leaned forward towards the flame.

"Then write it in the dirt." I ordered, she turned to me. Her eyes glaring at me this time. I raised a brow at her. She turned looking at the ground and moved her hands to write. "Sona" The flames were bright enough to read the words she wrote.

"Sona?" I mumbled. "Who cares about her name, just kill her already." The voice intruded my mind. I shook my head, waving the voice away. She turned to me and nodded, her eyes glinted against the dim fire light. Her eyebrows slightly furrowed, and her lips turned downward slightly. Her face showed no signs of wrinkles, but she had fair skin. Her body was slim, and her dress hung tight showing her frame.

"Well I guess you should sleep, you'll help cook or whatever he wants you to do." Varus stared at the woman. He seemed to be in slight amusement at the new situation. She turned back to look at him then back to me. She shook her head and got up dusting the dirt from her dress. I cocked an eyebrow at her, she seemed to not understand the situation she is in. Or rather just ignorant. I couldn't help but laugh inwardly. Rhaast had been quiet, showing no interest in her anymore. I watched as she walked back to her instrument that was now lying on the ground. I heard her sigh and sat down against the cave wall, placing her instrument in front of her.

"You aren't playing that right now." I heard Varus speak up between the crackles of the fire pit. She looked back up and shook her head again. Placing her hands in her lap and stared at the both of us expectantly.

I placed my hands on my knees hefting myself up. Walking up to her, I bent down and grabbed her arm, yanking her up. She opened her mouth and winced in protest but didn't seem to fight me more. I walked her away with her instrument that was near the entrance of the room.

"I can't have you over there, what if you ran away." I teased before putting her behind the fire pit behind Varus.

"You will stay over here unless you are called, you will not play anything on that thing either. We have to keep a low profile, and we can't have you making anything loud to bring us attention." I pointed at the makeshift bed made of leather and mostly just random clothes.

"Or would you want that? To bring death upon more people?" I teased further. She narrowed her eyes and yanked her arm from my grasp. Turning her back to me she bent down and sat back on the ground away from the bed.

"Kayn." I moved my head towards the voice. I looked back down at the woman who pulled her knees to her chest and stared anywhere that wasn't me.

"Yes?" I spoke finally turning back towards Varus.

"Come. I have to discuss something with you. Privately." Varus rose up lifting his hand up in motion to follow him.

"Stay here." I told her, she didn't turn her head to look at me but kept staring at the fire. And with that I turned and followed suit following Varus out to the entrance of the cave.

~xXx~
