December 8, 1871

It was an hour after the official introduction of not only Miss Elodie and Lisa as princesses, but also the official introduction of Hikari as Enchancia's newest princess. As everybody was celebrating in the Enchancia Castle ballroom, Princess Faith of Cinnibar had taken Dorrie and Candice into a private room near the ballroom.

"So, what is this about, Faith?" Dorrie asked, curious.

"I need to ask a favor," Faith answered.

"What may we do for you, Faith?" Candice wanted to know.

"I need the two of you to find something for my mother," Faith started.

"And what would this something be?" Dorrie inquired.

"The Horse Talisman," Faith revealed. "It has the power to heal Eda and her sister."

"But the Horse Talisman could be anywhere," Candice pointed out. "It could be in this time, or the past, or in the future."

"Which is why I'm coming to the two of you," Faith explained. "Since the two of you are Voyagers, you have the ability to travel in time and track down the Horse Talisman."

"There's one fly in the ointment," Candice countered. "This would have to be an off-the-record mission ... and Voyager Command might not be thrilled with Dorrie and I using our Omnis for such a mission."

"There's a solution," a female voice came from behind Candice, Dorrie, and Faith.

The three turned around to see Lucinda standing there.

"I didn't mean to intrude on a private conversation," Lucinda apologized. "I heard voices in here, and I wanted to see if everything was okay."

"No harm done," Dorrie smiled. "What solution?"

"We could use your Tardis," Lucinda winked. "No Voyager involvement, and we could still time travel."

"That would be a good workaround," Candice agreed.

"And we could use the Tardis' scanners to track down the Horse Talisman," Dorrie added.

"Then I'd say we have a plan," Lucinda smiled. "We'll bring in Sofia, Amber, Abby, and Violet, and we can get started."

"I'll tell my mother that everything is in good hands," Faith smiled back. "Thank you for your help."

"You're very welcome, Faith," Dorrie happily acknowledged.

Two hours later

Dorrie, Candice, Violet, Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and Abby gathered in The Secret Library. Dorrie opened the hidden door which led to the First Story Keeper's Tardis, and the seven walked inside the Tardis.

"I take it everybody here has been told what is going on?" Dorrie asked as everybody gathered nodded their heads yes. "Then all that's left is to track down the Horse Talisman. We can use the Tardis' computer to scan for it."

"I've already started scanning," a female voice announced from inside the Tardis.

"Excellent, Tarda," Dorrie acknowledged, pleased.

"Tarda?" Candice asked, puzzled.

"The Tardis computer has finally picked a name for herself," Dorrie explained. "Tarda, short for Tardis Accessible Read-only Data Information Assistant."

"I like it," Candice smiled.

"It's nice to have you back, Candice," Tarda greeted. "I take it you had a satisfactory vacation?"

"Very satisfactory, Tarda," Candice happily answered.

"Continuing to scan for the Horse Talisman," Tarda announced to those present. "I'm picking up something that matches it in 1847 Esmeraudia".

"Esmeraudia," Dorrie thought out loud. "Someplace Mom, Candice, and I haven't been for a while."

"Shall I set coordinates?" Tarda asked.

"Yes," Violet instructed. "Once the coordinates are set, take us there."

"Understood," Tarda acknowledged.

In a few moments, the Tardis vanished into thin air on its way to 1847 Esmeraudia.

June 4, 1847

The Tardis appeared out of thin air in the Kingdom of Esmeraudia. It had been just over a year since the evil King Alphonse had been overthrown. As everybody stepped out of the Tardis, they noticed they were in the middle of a forest.

"Dorrie?" Amber asked. "You said that you, Candice, and Violet were in Esmeraudia before."

"Yes," Violet confirmed. "We were here in 1846 on an official Voyager mission to see that King Alphonse was overthrown."

"Alphonse was an evil king," Dorrie explained.

"And the people hated his guts," Candice added.

"To make a long story short, Alphonse was killed, and his nephew, Gaspard, was installed as king," Violet revealed. "Gaspard was a good man and brought Esmeraudia into an age of hope. It was a shining moment in Esmeraudian history."

"Mom," Candice started as she looked at a Tricorder she had brought with her. "I'm picking up what may be the Horse Talisman. It's a mile in that direction. It's with a man and ..."

"And what?" Violet wanted to know.

"... six creatures who appear to be wolf-like," Candice continued.

"Wolfen," Sofia thought out loud.

"Wolfen?" Amber wanted to know.

"I remember the Wolfen from when I had a Secret Library mission here in Esmeraudia in 1866," Sofia recalled. "The Wolfen were originally the protectors of Esmeraudia but were driven away when they wouldn't swear loyalty to Alphonse because he was a tyrant. Some must have returned when Alphonse was killed."

"I suggest we proceed with caution," Violet suggested. "At this time, Esmeraudia is still in a state of transition. We should expect anything - good or bad."

"Good advice, as always," Lucinda agreed.

"Wolf-like creatures approaching fast," Candice warned as she read her Tricorder. "Surrounding us."

"Wands at the ready!" Violet ordered.

Six Wolfen quickly surrounded Violet, Dorrie, Candice, Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and Abby. Each Wolfen stood there aggressively growling with bared teeth.

"There are six of them and seven of us," Sofia pointed out.

"That you can see," a man pointed out as he approached.

"Arsene Moreau," Violet said in disgust.

"Arsene Moreau?" Amber asked Violet.

"He was King Alphonse's royal sorcerer," Violet explained.

"You're remarkably well informed," Arsene said to Violet. "Who might you be?"

"A traveler," Violet responded.

"Keep your secrets," Arsene said with a wicked grin. "In a few moments, you'll all be dead."

At that moment, some flares fired from a nearby hill landed near Arsene and the Wolfen, taking them off guard.

"Attack!" Violet ordered.

Everybody fired their wands at Arsene and the Wolfen. Arsene and five Wolfen fell to the ground, stunned. The sixth Wolfen started charging toward Violet, Dorrie, Candice, Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and Abby. As the Wolfen charged, Dorrie quickly transformed into her werewolf form, and the Wolfen and Dorrie engaged in combat. It was quite intense, with the Wolfen and Dorrie biting at each other. Suddenly, Dorrie, summoning all of her werewolf strength, tossed the Wolfen aside as Lucinda shot a blast from her wand, stunning the Wolfen. Dorrie then transformed back to her human form.

"You okay?" Violet asked Dorrie, concerned.

"A bit banged up, but okay, Mom," Dorrie reassured Violet.

Violet walked over to where Arsene and the six Wolfen were laying, stunned. Violet raised her wand at the Wolfen and said "Immobulus!" which froze the six Wolfen in place. Sofia quickly raced over and grabbed Arsene with her Enchantlet.

"What is going on here?!" Arsene demanded to know.

"We're looking for the Horse Talisman," Violet answered.

"Horse what?" Arsene responded, feigning ignorance.

"It's around his neck," Candice revealed as she read her Tricorder.

Abby walked over and removed the Horse Talisman from around Arsene's neck.

"That's mine!" Arsene protested.

"Not anymore," Violet smirked. "What are Wolfen doing with the likes of you?"

"If you must know, some Wolfen returned to Esmeraudia and sided with me," Arsene answered with a smirk. "Not all Wolfen are good."

"Obviously," Violet acknowledged, not impressed.

"Let me go immediately!" Arsene demanded in anger. "There will be payment for your actions!"

"I think not," Violet said in confidence as she raised her wand and pointed it at Arsene. "Obliviate!"

Arsene fell over unconscious as his recent memories were erased. Candice then walked over to the group of Wolfen who were under the Immobulus! spell, followed by everybody who was with her. As Candice pointed her wand at the Wolfen, everybody else raised their wands in readiness.

"Finite Incantatem!" Candice said as the Wolfen unfroze.

"Obliviate!" everybody said as the Wolfen started moving forward. The Wolfen then fell over unconscious as their memories were erased.

"Well, that takes care of that," Violet acknowledged.

"Shouldn't we turn Arsene over to the Esmeraudian authorities?" Amber suggested.

"That won't be necessary," Violet pointed out. "Arsene will eventually be caught by the authorities. We've best be going."

"Mom," Dorrie started. "Who threw those flares?"

"I was wondering that myself," Violet answered. "Obviously somebody on our side who doesn't want to be acknowledged."

As Violet, Dorrie, Candice, Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and Abby started walking back to the Tardis, they were being watched from a distance by three teen girls - sixteen-year-old Rachel Beckenbauer, sixteen-year-old Angela Turner, and Angela's foster sister (fourteen-year-old May Tang). The three girls were Auxiliary Voyagers from Voyager Command's future.

"Well, girls, we don't call you the Three Musketeers for nothing," a woman's voice came from behind the girls. "You're the best Auxiliary Voyagers we've ever had."

Rachel, Angela, and May turned around to see a future Voyager Commissioner Diana Spencer standing there.

"Commissioner Spencer," Rachel greeted.

"Mission carried out as planned, Commissioner," Angela reported.

"And nobody down there saw who we were," May added.

"Excellent," Diana smiled. "Another undercover mission successfully carried out."

Rachel watched as Violet, Dorrie, Candice, Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and Abby walked away in the distance.

"Everything okay, Rachel?" Diana wanted to know.

"Yes, Commissioner," Rachel answered. "It's just that I haven't seen my mother that young before."

"Ah, yes," Diana acknowledged. "Candice at this time is just entering adulthood, before she and Everett married, and adopted you."

"It must be a little strange seeing your mother that young," Angela commented to Rachel.

"Yes," Rachel admitted. "But I also feel I've just gotten to know her better just now."

Diana, Angela, and May smiled at Rachel's comment.

"I suggest we be off, then," Diana suggested.

Diana, Rachel, Angela, and May adjusted the dials on their Omnis. Each then pressed a button on their respective Omnis and disappeared into thin air.

Cinnibar: December 8, 1871

At Scarlett's palace in Cinnibar, Scarlett was in her laboratory when she heard a strange noise coming from one side of the room. As Scarlett looked up, she saw a tan metal box appear out of thin air. A door swung open and out walked Violet, Dorrie, Candice, Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and Abby.

"Ladies," Scarlett smiled. "Taking the First Story Keeper's Tardis out for a spin?"

"Actually, Scarlett," Violet began, "we come bearing a gift."

"The Horse Talisman," Lucinda added.

"If I'll be damned," Scarlett said, impressed. "You ladies never cease to amaze me."

Scarlett examined the Talisman in her hand with a nod as she turned to her friends.

"Lucinda, if you would please hold out your wrist?"

Lucinda nodded and held out her wrist as Scarlett drew a knife from her belt as everyone winced.

"What are you doing?!" Sofia asked in shock.

"Just checking to see if this is legitimate."

Scarlett made a small incision on Lucinda's wrist, drawing a bit of blood before she held out the Talisman to it. The horse symbol on the front glowed brightly with a flash of light. When the light faded, the cut on Lucinda's wrist was instantly healed.

"Whoa," Dorrie said, impressed. "It really does work."

"So," Scarlett said, sheathing her knife and then tossing the Talisman in her hand. "The legends of the Talisman are true."

Everybody smiled at the revelation.

"We've best be going," Violet announced on behalf of herself, Dorrie, Candice, Sofia, Lucinda, Amber, and Abby. "We have to be getting back to Enchancia Castle."

"Of course," Scarlett acknowledged. "I thank all of you for your help."

December 9, 1871

At Scarlett's palace, Scarlett was in her laboratory when Faith walked in and noticed Scarlett working on a magical device.

"What is that, Mom?" Faith asked, curious.

"A device that magically connects Cinnibar to the Boiling Isles," Scarlett smiled. "I've created magical portals to the Boiling Isles before, but each of those was only temporary. I wanted something that would be permanent."

"You never cease to amaze me," Faith acknowledged, impressed.

Scarlett then brought out a key filled with a blue liquid.

"Is that ... Titans Blood?" Faith wanted to know. "I thought Titans Blood was only available on the Boiling Isles."

"We have Titans Blood here in the Ever Realm ... if you know where to look," Scarlett winked.

Scarlett inserted the key into the magical device. In a few moments, a portal to the Boiling Isles appeared.

"I'll be back in a little while," Scarlett announced to Faith. "Guard the portal."

"I will, Mom," Faith promised.

"Guard this as well," Scarlett requested as she gently handed the Horse Talisman to Faith. Scarlett then walked through the portal and disappeared.

Almost two hours had passed. As Faith sat at a laboratory table reading a magazine, she heard some activity coming from the portal. In a few moments, Scarlett emerged, followed by Eda and Lilith.

"I was getting worried," Faith said to Scarlett.

"Sorry about that, Faith," Scarlett apologized. "We had to track down Lilith who was with her mom."

"But we're here now, and that's what counts," Eda smiled at Faith.

Faith handed the Horse Talisman to Scarlett. Scarlett clutched the Horse Talisman in her hand as Eda and Lilith sat in front of her as Eda looked on.

"Are you certain this will work?" Eda asked. "Nothing else anyone's tried has worked."

"The ancient texts promised that this can heal anything," Scarlett revealed.

"Why have you been trying so desperately to heal my sister?" Lilith wanted to know.

"Because I made a promise to Eda a long time ago that I would be the one to cure her curse, no matter how long it took," Scarlett stated plainly. "And I don't make promises I don't intend to keep."

"So? Who goes first?" Eda wanted to know.

"Let's start with Lilith," Scarlett suggested as Lilith stepped forward. Scarlett then pointed the Horse Talisman at Lillith who felt an immediate effect.

"How?" Lilith asked, stunned at the power that was once again coursing through her. "None of the best Healing Covens could heal that curse."

"And that attitude is precisely why people will never best me, Lilith," Scarlett pointed out. "Magic is the cornerstone of many people's entire being. But for me, magic is only one aspect of who I am."

"Is there a place where I may test out my magic?" Lilith asked. "It's been a little while, and I'd like to see if everything works again."

"Of course," Scarlett acknowledged. "Faith will show you to the courtyard where you may test to your heart's content."

As Faith led Lilith out of the laboratory, Scarlett turned the Horse Talisman at Eda who felt an immediate sensation. Before Eda knew it, the Owl Beast left Eda's body and disappeared into smoke and flame. Eda was now free of the curse that had been haunting her for years.

"Thank you so much, old friend," Eda said, giving Scarlett a big hug. "If there's anything I can do for you, just holler."

"Well ... there is one thing you can do to repay me for this," Scarlett said as she got down on her knees and presented a box.

"Red, if you're doing ..."

"Will you join the Protectors?" Scarlett asked as she opened the box to reveal a golden Enchantlet, stunning Eda as the Enchantlet shot out of the box and clasped itself around Eda's wrist. "We could really use someone like you. Especially since we still have eleven more Talismans to find."

"Not much of a joiner, but I'll do anything to peeve off Emperor Belos," Eda chuckled. "Count me in."

"Good," Scarlett smiled. "Welcome aboard. Let's keep your Protector status and Enchantlet between us, shall we?"

"Okay," Eda agreed. "But why?"

"Let's just call them our secret ace in the hole," Scarlett responded. "If Belos gets too close to completing his plans, I'd rather not have him knowing until it's too late."

"Ah! Gotcha, Red," Eda said in understanding. "Just between us, then."

"Just between us," Scarlett winked at Eda.

December 24, 1871

It had been a busy month at Enchancia Castle, with everybody in the castle getting ready for Wassailia. It was now Wassailia Eve, and time for the annual Wassailia Eve party at Enchancia Castle which was looked forward to by those living around Enchancia Castle, as well as invited royal guests. The annual Wassailia Eve party had plenty of wonderful holiday food to enjoy, as well as holiday decorations and a large Wassailia tree.

As the Wassailia Eve party started, eleven-year-old Hikari, along with Gatomon, walked among the people attending the party. Along with Hikari and Gatomon was Hikari's best friend from Royal Prep, twelve-year-old Princess Elsie of Yensid. The three looked at the decorations and the large tree in awe. As they looked at the sights around them, Baileywick walked up to the crowd attending the party.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Baileywick announced. "As part of the entertainment for this year's Wassailia Eve party, we have Princess Sofia and her friend Winter the Fawn. Princess Sofia will sing for us while Winter will accompany the princess by playing her panpipe. I now present to you Princess Sofia and Winter the Fawn."

Everybody clapped as Sofia and Winter stepped forward. Winter then started playing her panpipe as Sofia began to sing.

"Walking in the air. Floating in the sky. Floating in the air."

"We're walking in the air. We're floating in the moonlit sky. The people far below are sleeping as we fly."

"We're holding very tight. I'm riding in the midnight blue. I'm finding I can fly so high above with you."

"Far across the world. The villages go by like dreams. The rivers and the hills. The forests and the streams."

"Children gaze open mouthed taken by surprise. Nobody down below believes their eyes."

"We're surfing in the air. We're swimming in the frozen sky. We're drifting over icy mountains floating by."

"Suddenly swooping low on an ocean deep. Rising up a mighty monster from its sleep."

"We're walking in the air. We're dancing in the midnight sky. And everyone who sees us greets us as we fly."

Everybody clapped in happiness as Sofia and Winter ended their performance. At that same moment, Baileywick walked back up.

"To continue our holiday entertainment, I present to you Fritz and Eileen, the royal singers of Enchancia."

As Fritz and Eileen stepped forward, everybody clapped as the two started singing.

"Good King Wenceslas looked out on the Feast of Stephen. When the snow lay round about deep and crisp and even. Brightly shone the moon that night though the frost was cruel. When a poor man came in sight gathering winter fuel."

"Hither, page, and stand by me, If thou knowst it, telling. Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling? Sire, he lives a good league hence, underneath the mountain. Right against the forest fence by Saint Agnes fountain."

"Bring me flesh and bring me wine. Bring me pine logs hither. Thou and I shall see him dine when we bear them thither. Page and monarch, forth they went. Forth they went together. Through the rude winds wild lament. And the bitter weather."

"Sire, the night is darker now. And the wind blows stronger. Fails my heart, I know not how. I can go no longer. Mark my footsteps, good my page. Tread thou in them boldly. Thou shall find the winters rage. Freeze thy blood less coldly."

"In his masters step he trod where the snow lay dinted. Heat was in the very sod which the Saint had printed. Therefore, Christian men, be sure wealth or rank possessing. Ye, who now will bless the poor shall yourselves find blessing."

As everybody clapped in honor of Fritz and Eileen's performance, Lucinda turned to Sofia.

"It's too bad that Jade and her father couldn't attend this year," Lucinda quietly said.

"Yes," Sofia sadly agreed. "The two of them are still getting over Princess Emma's death. Mrs. Hanshaw has been helping them get over it as best she can, and Ruby is spending the holiday there to help Jade as best she can."

At that same moment, at the Satu embassy in the Village of Dunwiddie, nineteen-year-old Jade, her father, Helen Hanshaw, and eighteen-year-old Ruby Hanshaw, were quietly sitting in the sitting room of the embassy.

"It's hard to believe that Emma is actually gone," Jade's father (Prince Liang) quietly said. "The holiday won't be the same without her."

"I know it will be tough getting through the holiday," Helen said in a reassuring voice as she held Liang's hand. "It was tough for Ruby and me to get through the holiday when we lost my husband. But, Emma would have wanted you and Jade to get on with your lives."

"You're right, of course, Helen," Liang agreed. "You and Ruby have been good friends to me and Jade. We both appreciate you being here for us during this difficult time."

"Ruby and I will always be here," Helen promised.

"I have an idea," Ruby spoke up. "Princess Emma always loved music. We should sing something for the holiday."

"That's a wonderful idea, Ruby," Helen smiled as Ruby started singing.

"It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old, from angels bending near the earth to touch their harps of gold. Peace on the earth, good will to men, from heaven's all-gracious King. The world in solemn stillness lay, to hear the angels sing."

Helen and Ruby and started singing together. " For lo! the days are hast'ning on, by prophets seen of old, when with the ever-circling years shall come the time foretold. When the new heav'n and earth shall own the Prince of Peace their King. And the whole world send back the song which now the angels sing."

Liang and Jade then joined Helen and Ruby. "Still thru the cloven skies they come with peaceful wings unfurled, and still their heav'nly music floats O'er all the weary world. Above its sad and lowly plains they bend on hov'ring wing, and ever o'er its babel sounds the blessed angels sing."

Meanwhile, inside Scarlett's palace in Cinnibar, Genevieve looked on from her seat next to Leandra. During her youth before the Hobgoblin attack on her village and after she arrived at Castle Accord alongside Felonius and Dima Michelius, she paid attention to what festivals were observed, and it didn't seem like her people had much. Yeah, they had a winter solstice-type festival but the idea of presents wasn't a part of the festival. Since her arrival in the Ever Realm, she had spent some time with Duchess Tilly's assistant Madge learning about modern-day Accordia which was located in a part of the area of Accord.

"What use does it serve to give gifts to people as it is?" Leandra asked Genevieve.

"I'm trying to figure that out myself, Leandra. There is a lot about our new home that I don't fully understand. In time though hopefully, we will figure it out together."

Genevieve and Leandra smiled at each other, looking forward to better knowing their new home.

December 25, 1871

It was now Wassailia morning. At Enchancia Castle, the royal family had Wassailia breakfast in the royal dining room. Meanwhile, in the servants area of the castle, the servants and other castle staff had a Wassailia breakfast of their own. Everybody in the castle had a fine time enjoying a delicious Wassailia breakfast and talking to each other.

Later that morning, in the castle ballroom, the royal family, servants, and other staff assembled for a Wassailia concert being performed by Dorrie and Candice. As Dorrie sat at a piano, and Candice stood holding a violin, the two started playing O Come All Ye Faithful. As Dorrie and Candice started playing, everybody joined in singing.

"O come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant. O come ye O come ye to Bethlehem. Come and behold him, born the King of angels."

"O come let us adore him. O come let us adore him. O Come let us adore him. Christ the Lord."

At one point during the singing, Queen Miranda turned to Hikari. "How are you doing?"

"I'm doing fine, Mom," Hikari smiled. "This is the happiest I've been in a long time. Thank you for a fine home and a loving family."

"You're very welcome," Miranda smiled as she gently hugged Hikari. "And thank you for being in our lives."

It was a morning of warmth and happiness in the castle. Everybody had a fine time singing holiday songs and enjoying holiday refreshments.

At one point, Roland looked around the ballroom and took in the holiday cheer present in the room.

"Now, this is what the holidays are all about!" Roland happily thought to himself. "Loved ones and friends having a great time!"

Everything was right with the world.

(End of Chapter 10).

Author's notes

Angela Turner and May Tang are teenage versions of the same characters seen in "Call the Midwife". In Chapter 11 of "Once Upon a Time in Enchancia", it was mentioned that their parents (Patrick and Shelagh) would become the new specialty Voyagers in charge of medical history, so it would make sense that Angela and May would become Auxiliary Voyagers along with Candice's future daughter, Rachel. For those wondering, Turner is a common name, and the Turners mentioned here are no relation whatsoever to the Turners in "Elena of Avalor".
