Period 32: Day 1 - First Time Around

Hey, just to let you guys know, I released a new story. It's a dirty story for dirty minds. And currently, there is a poll on my profile page where you can decide the next character that participates! One of the characters from this very series is the first on the chopping block! ("Ladies and gentlemen! Boys and girls of all ages! Students of Mahora Academy and all those who have come to visit us for the next few days! Welcome everyone to the 78th annual Mahora Festival!")

"Wow! There are so many people!" Negi called out over the hustle and bustle of people all around them. The little redhead marveled at the size and scope of the celebration as he saw planes fly overhead and leave trails to guide people through the entrance, "Amazing!"

While the Library Trio followed behind the young teacher as they tried to raise awareness for their class' Haunted House, Haruna giggled, "Geez, Negi-kun, you sure are hyped up for this, aren't you?"

"Oh yes! Everyone has been talking about it for so long!" Negi bounced on his feet, "Oh, there looks to be so many fun things to do!"

"Here, Negi-sensei," Nodoka handed him a map with a gentle smile, "Here are most of the largest attractions and exhibits to see in the school."

"Thank you so much, Nodoka-San!" She seemed to bask in the joy of his happiness as he opened up the map and saw everything the festival had to offer, "There's so much to do and so little time. But first-"

He closed the map and pointed to their school, "Let's support the haunted house!"

A Tyrannosaurus rex reeled its head back and released an earth-shattering roar that sounded suspiciously like something from a Godzilla movie.

The crowd that stopped by to watch it stomp along clapped in amazement at its authenticity before moving along again. Konoka clapped in support around her hold on Kyūbi, "Wow! The cosplay parade is even more impressive this year than the one before. Hehe, they work so hard and it shows every time."

Naruto turned to Asuna and Setsuna while pointing at the realistic dinosaur, "That's a cosplay?"

"Indeed."

"What can we say, the Cosplay Club takes their art very seriously." Asuna noted with a shrug of her shoulders. They had all gathered after helping out some of the teachers move things before the festival had officially started while Negi had joined the rest of the faculty for a quick meeting.

But now that they were done they were free to explore and see what the festival had to offer. Naruto and Asuna wore their regular clothes while Setsuna had a pair of cat ears on and Konoka dressed all out as a witch to promote her Fortunetelling Club.

The young teens started to walk along the path as Konoka smiled, "So what should we do now? I think we have some time before we have to go to our clubs."

"The Kendo Club does not have any showings through the festival, so I have quite an open schedule. Oh, except I promised to take care of a large portion of the patrolling job to help free up Negi-sensei's schedule."

"And I promised Sayo-chan a chance to walk around in my body before my patrols came up."

"I still can't believe you agreed to that." Asuna noted, "So if we've got nothing else to do, how about we do something together?"

"Count me out." Kyūbi slipped out of Konoka's grasp and landed by their feet before strutting away, "There's only one thing I want to do today and that's stuff myself with as much junk food and sweets as I can."

"Aw, Kyūbi-chan, we can feed you if you want."

"Yeah but I can go on the prowl, nipping people's food or looking up at them to feed me. People love feeding adorable animals food, and I am nothing if not adorable."

"You're not though." Naruto quickly said, "You're so ugly I'd kick you away the second I saw you."

"And when I get sick of stuffing myself, can you guess where I'll be expelling it? Look forward to that."

With that ominous threat, Kyūbi walked away as the girls and Naruto grimaced in disgust. Letting out a grossed-out shudder, Asuna turned to the others, "Let's just ignore the Furball and focus on having a good time."

"Yeah!" Konoka cheered before she felt her phone vibrate. She quickly pulled it out and saw the text notice before she smiled and started to text back, "Otou-sama wishes us fun over the next few days."

"Aww, that's sweet of Eishun-San."

"He also wants us to send him a picture." Konoka giggled as she got close to her friends. She didn't seem to notice Setsuna's sudden red face as she got close and tried to use her phone to get everyone together, "Okay everyone, big smiles! Oh shoot, I can't get the right angle. Maybe if I-"

"Would you like me to take it for you?"

"Oh yes, if you - oh!" Konoka gasped with a smile, "O-Otou-sama?"

Eishun and a woman behind him were there to greet them as the older man smiled at his daughter and her friends, "I wanted to surprise you with a visit. I hope that was alright."

"Of course!" Konoka quickly rushed in and hugged her father, "This is such a surprise! Did Ojii-sama invite you?"

"He did. Said it would be a pleasure to host me during such a momentous occasion. And I had to move some things around to clear up some time but I should be alright as long as nothing severe happens back in Kyoto." Eishun fixed his glasses and looked over at the others, "It's a pleasure to see all of you again."

"Eishun-San!" Naruto rushed up to one of his former guardians, elated to see his friend again after their last meeting had been punctuated by a terrible experience with the terrorist cell. He grinned, "I'm so glad to see you again! And who is that with you?"

"Oh, I should probably make some introductions." He turned to the woman following behind him, "This is my relative who wanted to come to visit the festival. Her name is-"

"Master!" Setsuna exclaimed as she immediately fell to her knees and bowed her head to the beautiful woman, "I-I'm sorry! If I knew you were coming, I would have prepared properly for your arrival! I-I must show you to the dojo so you can be properly welcomed and-"

A sharp strike to the crown made the ponytailed girl squeak and retreat while rubbing her head. The beautiful woman giggled, "Oh Setsuna-chan, you're still as serious as ever." She laughed before giving the young girl a soft smile, "I'm no longer a teacher of the Shinmei-Ryū style, Setsuna-chan. You don't need to bow your head to me."

"O-Of course I do!" Setsuna persisted, "Even if you retired, you are the one who taught me everything I know!" She quickly realized she hadn't made the proper introduction and turned to her friends, "Everyone, this is Tsuruko Aoyama-sama. She taught me the way of the Shinmei-Ryū when I was a child."

"It's a pleasure to meet you all." Tsuruko politely bowed before she smiled and waved at a familiar face, "Hello, Konoka-chan."

"Onee-sama," Konoka cheered happily, "I'm so glad to see you again." She greeted the older swordswoman before turning to Asuna and Naruto, "Tsuruko-oneesama is Otou-sama's relative who watched over me when I was younger. I used to call her Obaa-sama but she got angry when I did."

Asuna chuckled nervously, "What a weird family situation. But at least it's nice to know Setsuna-San acts like that with most people she respects, huh?" She asked the boy at her side but got no answer, "Whiskers?"

Naruto stayed quiet as he silently looked at Tsuruko. Even after all these years, he recognized her immediately and suddenly felt his throat close in apprehension. He tried to think of what to say-

"Hey, if you're visiting then you should come to see our class' haunted house." Konoka suggested with a big smile to her family and friends, "How about we all go together?"

"Now that sounds like fun!"

"I'd like to see what you and your friends made together."

"Alright, let's go!"

"I-I think I'll pass." Everyone stopped and looked at Naruto as he paled and stepped back, "I probably have other responsibilities and duties to take care of."

"You just said you were free until you met with Sayo-chan."

"Well, I forgot some other things I have to do! Now excuse me-"

Konoka and Asuna quickly latched onto his arms to stop him from escaping. Naruto started to panic and cry out as he tried to resist their grip. Setsuna sighed and looked at the adults, "Naruto-sensei isn't very good with ghosts and horror."

"Ah, that makes sense."

Eishun sighed, "I'm sorry, Naruto-kun. Nagi did a number on you as a kid, didn't he?"

"Y-You're wrong, Eishun-San! I'm not still scared of horror stuff! I got over those fears a long time ago!"

"Oh yeah," Asuna looked at him skeptically, "Prove it."

Naruto gulped as sweat ran down his face.

They all stood outside the haunted house and listened to the screams coming from inside. Some voices sounded like they were having a delightful time being scared by the haunted house.

And then some that just sounded terrified.

"AHHHHH!"

"N-Nii-San?! Are you in here?!"

"Negi?! Negi, follow my voice! Don't let this be the end!"

Tsuruko giggled as she stood with the others, "They're quite some funny kids in charge of these students."

Asuna sighed as she heard them scream, "Negi I can kinda get it cause he's a kid but Whiskers? He fights scary things all the time, but it's the staged horror that he can't handle?"

"Yeah, Jack and Nagi had a good laugh when they found out he was scared of ghosts as a boy. And they being the idiots they are decided that exposure therapy would be the answer to the problem. But it seemed to only compound the problem until…well, this."

"AH!" Negi and Naruto burst through the exit and toppled over each other in a heap of panting limbs and trembling breaths. Both boys looked up with clattering teeth, "T-That was very impressive but I-I don't think I need to go through it again!"

"You're middle-schoolers! What is wrong with you girls?!"

"Hehehe," Tsuruko and Konoka giggled, "This school is so much fun."

"I'm okay." Negi quietly said as he rubbed his eyes to try and ward off the tiredness he felt, "Honestly, I don't feel that tired."

"Yeah well you've also been up pretty much several nights in a row figuring out your schedule, helping make the haunted house, and just being an excited kid. So I don't trust your assurance that you're fine." Asuna remarked as they made their way towards the infirmary, "C'mon, you can take a quick nap over here."

Negi looked like he wanted to refute their worry but couldn't stifle the small yawn that was starting to escape his mouth. He quickly shuddered and closed his mouth before nodding, "Okay, maybe a small rest will do me good."

"That's good, Negi." Naruto nodded as they made their way into the infirmary, "Sensei, we got a tired teacher here who needs to recover some strength."

"I heard." The beautiful nurse nodded as she pointed to a set of beds at the side, "We had these set up in case of injury during the festival, even though our safety precautions are quite high. Negi-sensei can close his eyes for a bit here." Negi walked over and got into bed, "I also have some tea if you'd like?"

"That would be greatly appreciated." Negi nodded as he yawned again, "I hope Eishun-San didn't mind that I wasn't able to say goodbye properly."

"You worry too much, Negi-kun. Otou-sama completely understands, plus I'm sure we'll see him again." Konoka assured the young teacher before turning to Setsuna, "Secchan, I know this is a lot to ask, but since you don't have anything going on with your club-"

"I can stay behind and make sure Negi-sensei gets a good rest." The young kendo practitioner nodded to her friends, "You can leave it to me."

"Thank you, Secchan!"

"Negi, make sure you get some rest!"

"We'll see you later, buddy!"

As the others left, Setsuna came over to Negi's bedside as he took off his glasses and removed the tie that kept his hair together. The nurse came over and dropped off a tray of tea for them before she went back out. Negi, Setsuna, and Chamo quietly sipped tea as the sound of the festival's attractions bled through the walls.

"30 minutes," Negi whispered as he sipped his tea and rubbed his eyes, "That's all I need to recharge and face the day. After that, I'll go handle everything on my sche-"

It was dark when he opened his eyes.

Negi sat up in the bed, blearily opening and closing his eyes as she tried to comprehend why it was so dark. Chamo slept at his side like a rock and Setsuna rested her head on the bed as she quietly snoozed. He blinked his eyes a few more times before he looked outside the window.

It was so much darker with the lights being the only thing that helped illuminate the room.

He turned and looked at the wall.

He saw a clock that read past 8.

…

Oh no.

"Oh my god!" Negi cried out, startling Setsuna and Chamo awake as he frantically rubbed his head, "I-It's night! We slept all day! We missed the festival!"

"W-What?!" Chamo looked around in a start, "N-No way! There's no way we-"

"I-It's so late!" Setsuna freaked out, "I-I slept too?! B-But I wasn't tired! Why-"

"I-I missed the whole day! I-I had so much to do! I was going to go to everyone's clubs! A-And the teachers were relying on me to help stop confessions! And Nodoka-San was - NODOKA-SAN!" He jumped out of bed, "I missed our date! I-I have to-"

"N-Negi-sensei, wait! It's already been several hours! If you missed it then Nodoka-San would have left-"

"Actually…" Chamo gulped, "Don't you think she'd be the type to wait for him?"

…

Tears came to Negi's eyes, "Oh no! What have I done?!"

"Ugggghhhhhhhhh." A groan from the other side of the room had them suddenly freeze in the middle of their panicking.

Negi froze in fear in the middle of his spiral, fearing that it might have been one of any countless number of people that he had failed today that was looking for blood, "W-Who goes there?!"

"Ugh, too loud." A familiar voice said as they shifted around and sat up on the other bed in the infirmary. Negi, Chamo, and Setsuna were surprised to see Naruto shifting the sheets off of himself and rubbing his head down. He had bags under his eyes and had changed out into a black cloak, with what looked to be flakes of something green in his hair, "Ugh, my head. Ah, my nose!" He immediately reached for his nose and gingerly rubbed it, "Ugh, that prick didn't need to punch that hard."

"N-Nii-San?" Negi muttered in disbelief before crying out, "Nii-San!" He cried out to Naruto as he ran over in a panic, "I-It's terrible! I-I overslept! I missed everything! I didn't go to any exhibits and I missed doing my rounds a-and Nodoka-San! Nodoka-San was waiting and-"

"Loud, Negi. You're too loud." The whiskered blond boy said as he rubbed his temple, "What's wrong? You missed something?"

"I missed everything!"

"So, who cares?"

"Sensei!" Setsuna quickly chided Naruto for his attitude while Negi seemed to whimper to himself, "You can't just say something like that! Negi-sensei was looking forward to today, a-and because I didn't wake him up-"

"Sensei?" He interrupted, "Oh c'mon, Setsuna. I thought we were gonna work on that."

"Aniue, we could use some actual help here!" Chamo piped up.

Naruto groaned, "Look, just use the watch then."

"The watch?"

"Yeah, the watch. Use it to fix what you missed."

Negi looked at his friend in confusion before retrieving the pocket watch Chao had given him the day before, "W-What do I do with this?"

"Use it."

"F-For what?!"

"You're not making any sense!"

"Aniue, c'mon man!"

"Oh my god!" Naruto suddenly exclaimed before snapping out of his bed. He stepped between Setsuna and Negi before grabbing their shoulders. He knocked Negi's arm and hit the watch on the younger boy's hip.

Suddenly the light started to spin and rush around them at mind-boggling speeds. Negi, Setsuna, and Chamo all looked at the phenomenon around them in confusion as Naruto just closed his eyes so as not to irritate his migraine. The strange impossibility grew more prevalent for several moments before it completely stopped.

And the night sky outside turned bright as day.

Negi and Setsuna stared out the window in confusion as Chamo's eyes became wide as plates. All while Naruto let them go and massaged his temple, "Dammit, I need another nap or something. Or some ice on my nose."

"W-W-Wha-" Negi stuttered before looking up at Naruto, "Nii-San, what did you just do?"

"Used the watch to fix your problem."

"How?"

"Going back in time."

"Eh?"

Done

Well, short start but you're getting an idea of what these chapters have to offer. Gonna be a lot of crossing over while dealing with crazy timey-wimey shenanigans! And if I tried to write them all in big chapters, I'd probably lose my mind and you'd all lose track of what's what. This will definitely be the better choice.

So, the Mahora Festival. I honestly can't believe we made it here. Not only is this a mid milestone for just about every Negima fanfic…hard to believe this time last year I didn't have any inkling to even try and write this story again. Just goes to show how crazy things can change after a little time.
