Disclaimer: Naruto don't belong to me

A/N: I was inspired by the stories of the Japanese red string story. I hope you enjoy.

Some people were born talented, some very smart, some had to work extra hard to achieve their dreams. Then there were the gifted, some just had that extra something inside of them that no one else had, Sakura was one of those people.

She always saw it, it was always there from the very beginning of her life, she thought it was normal. But at age six her mother told her it was nice that she had such an imagination, then her best friend Ino told her she was seeing things.

It was at the age twelve Sakura decided to stop telling people about her gift, it wasn't normal and people didn't understand it. Not even her parents did or her friends, except Ino who supported her and begun to believe her when she broke down crying to the girl about it.

Ino was all she really needed, someone that believed her, that was until she met him. Sasuke Uchiha, the new kid, he kept to himself mostly until Naruto forced him into their group of friends. Before she knew it he was one of her closest friends and she wanted to share her gift with him.

"I can tell soul mates, except for my own and for some reason yours." She looked up at him from her spot on the swing set at the park they were hanging at. He was leaned on the bar holding the thing up, Naruto was supposed to join them then they'd go to the arcade and eat pizza. "What do you mean?" Sasuke looked at her with a curious look, at least she had his attention. "Like I don't know I see something others don't like everyone has a different color, symbol, or even a visible string that appears when they are close to their soul mate, I can see it, I don't see yours….or mines though." She bites her lip as she said that, wondering if he'd believe her or think she was crazy like Ino had.

"Uhhuh, what are you planning Sakura?" He cocked his head to the side and looked at her with a frown, she sighed at that, she knew it wouldn't be easy to convince him about her truth like it was for Ino. "I am being serious about this, I have a gift I guess, only Ino knows about this, you're the second person I'm telling"

"Not even Naruto?" Sakura laughed at his question, as if she'd tell that idiot about it, he might actually believe her faster than anyone else, but he might have a hard time keeping his mouth shut. "Of course, he can't keep a secret even if his life depends on it."

"Oh really, so what are you like Cupid, you hook people up." She heard the mocking in his voice and she didn't like it, glaring at him she huffed instead of answering him. She looked around for an example but there were no one around since it was after hours most people were properly heading home. She looked at him again squinting her eyes but not being able to see anything on him, it bothers her that she can't see his. It was usually on the risk, or the upper arm, sometimes by the ankle, she could always see it's slight glow, even when it was covered.

Recently she has learned to tune it out, it will be seen but very faintly, she wondered if there was anything else she would be able to do as time goes by though she doubts it. "Look just forget I said anything. Look Naruto is coming." She stood as the blonde began sprinting over. But Sasuke never left her alone.

He started by asking her quietly about Naruto's mark. Naruto had a small orange and purple dot on his neck, she already scoped out his mate, Hinata had a matching one. So every day Ino played matchmaker into making the two notice come closer. Though it was never hard, things just click into place after meeting your mate, the pull between two was strong.

In some ways she and Ino did play cupid, she'd point out mates and Ino will force her to join in on her meddling. They actually hooked up quite a bit of their friends already, Tenten and Neji, Karin and Suigetsu, Temari and Shikamaru, Matsuri and Gaara and so on. Some were easier than the others but in the end, the power of connection and love won.

She hadn't seen Ino's mate yet, but she saw Ino's star on her risk, a black and deep purple make. It was a bit weird to see peoples marks and they couldn't see it themselves. Ino had joked about getting a tattoo of her mark when she met her mate. Sakura wishes she could see her own, Ino had told her since she couldn't see Sasuke's either that he was her mate. But she didn't act on that or the fact that she did like him.

"What about them?" Sasuke whispered to Sakura gesturing to a couple that walked into the arcade, Naruto was busy stuffing his face with a new slice of pizza. "Sadly they don't match, they wouldn't last." She sighed, it was indeed sad to see the wrong people together, especially when their correct mate wasn't far away from them.

"Why can't you see mines? Did my mate die or something?" Sakura looked at him, he was believing her, she saw a serious look on his face, as a matter she had realized he wasn't mocking her anymore, he had to stop a while ago. "No, if your mate dies a line is placed over your mark, I saw it on my grandmothers after my grandfather had died." She looked down at her hands that played with a napkin to distract her at the thought of Ino words ringing in her head.

"Oh, that's weird, am I not meant to have a mate then?" He questions looking at her intensely; she honestly didn't know what to tell him. She'd admit that it never happened before, she never saw that before except for herself.

Suddenly a boy walking into the crowded place caught her attention, her eyes went wide and she almost jumped out of her seat. Instead, she pulls her phone out and takes a picture of the guy. "What the hell are you doing?" Sasuke asked looking at her phone as she opened Ino contact and sent the picture with a quick message he couldn't see.

"What are you two doing?" Naruto leaned over to look but she quickly got up and excused herself to the bathroom. She just saw Ino's mate, at the moment she could care less about anything, finally, she found her best friends mate.

"Sakura don't worry babe, I know I joke about it but Sasuke is your mate, just because you found a mark on him doesn't mean he isn't yours, you just can't see your own matching mark." Ino rubbed her back soothingly. It was a week after Sai had transferred into their school, Ino made it her business to meet the guy and a week later they were dating. Sakura was happy for the girl but couldn't help but laugh every time Ino talked about their future and Sai gave her a weird look.

But then she saw it, on Sasuke's neck, she thought it was a tattoo at first but it was his mark. She told him about it and he asked if she saw a match, it hurt so much to just think about it. Maybe it appeared because his mate was near. She didn't know anything but it hurt like hell, was she going to end up alone.

"What if she shows up Ino, what do I do, hook them up? I like him Ino!" Ino hugged the sobbing girl tightly, she didn't know what else to do. Sakura had never let herself get close to someone like this before, her gift a blessing and a curse to her. Even when asked out she refused because she knew it wouldn't last. Ino knew she was partly to blame for putting thoughts into the pink hair girls head about Sasuke. "I'm sorry baby, I am so sorry, you know it will be the right thing to do though." With that Sakura cried harder into her friend's shoulder, it was like that day all over again. When she had begged Ino to believe her, she had cried as hard as she was now, for almost the same reason. Feeling lonely.

"Why are you avoiding me?" Sakura jumped out of her skin at the voice that snuck up on her. She had gone to the library to return some books she was done with as well as get some new ones to read, being the book worm she was an all. It was usually empty with the few other book worms and the few students who came to do research. She wasn't expecting to have Sasuke come up behind her and scare her as he did.

"Oh, shit don't do that." She held her ground and focus on the book in her hands, she was trying to be as normal as she could, given the fact that he was killing her inside by just standing there. She refused to make eye contact with him even after he forced himself in front of her.

"Sakura, why are you avoiding me?" He gently took the book from her hand and shoved it into a random spot making her frown. Still, she didn't look him in the eye instead she stared at the book. "I am not, I have just been busy." She yanked the book again and placed it into its proper place, glancing at his neck for a brief moment before moving along the shelves in search of another book, but really her mind was blank. She was distracting herself before she broke down in front of him.

"When did you get a tattoo?" Sasuke asked coming to stand in front of her once again stopping her from moving, he raised her hair from on her neck and looked closely at it. "Nice, it looks cool." Sakura eyes went wide, she looked at him to see if he was shitting' her, but he was serious. Grabbing Sasuke's hand she tugged him to the front of the building where the receptionist was, there was a little mirror near the door. She walked straight to it still holding Sasuke's hand she raised her hair with her other hand and looked at the spot Sasuke had looked at.

But there was nothing there, she was confused, what the hell was going on, was Sasuke making fun of her? "Um, you ok? Did you not know you had a tattoo?" Sasuke gave out an awkward laugh.

"I don't have one, are you, are you seeing my mark?" She watches his eyes go wide, Sakura tugged at his arm again taking him to a table her bad was on, she pulled out two pens and papers, handing him one. "Draw what you see." She instructed taking a seat she began doodling on her piece of paper.

"What?" He was about to ask more questions but one glare from Sakura and he sat and did as she asked, or demanded.

When they showed each other their drawings they were both quiet, it was the same thing. Sakura felt her heart beat seeding up, tears whelmed up at the corners of her eyes and her face a bit red. She couldn't believe what was happening. She found her mate and it was Sasuke.

"I…we're mates aren't we?" Sasuke asked a small smile on his lips. She couldn't say anything so she just nods her head vigorously. "I'm so fucking happy for that." Sasuke leaned forward and kissed her gently at first but as she kissed him back he kissed her with passion, all his feelings for her put into the kiss. He had always liked her, and he just knew she was for him, the match was only a confirmation to what the connection he felt with her.
