Prologue: The Adventure in the Great Tomb

'His Tomb even his own people know not.' – John Chrysostom

Venice, Italy. January 1937.

It was on a moonlit night that I and Jones made our way into Venice. Darkness needed to enshroud us so we would not get caught. That was because this… adventure for the lack of a better word would prove dangerous if any soul found out we were there. And if they did find out… we would most certainly be-

"Tohsaka!" The voice of my dear friend whispered into my ears which broke my train of thought. Even though I knew only he would know my name I was still startled to the point that my heart almost jumped out of my chest.

"Are you seriously writing in your journal at a time like this?" My friend asked as I remembered the notebook and pen in my hands. Good thing I didn't drop them!

"Sorry." I replied as I looked at the ground in shame. What me and my friend were about to do was of the utmost importance. He's completely right that I shouldn't be writing at a time like this. It's just that if I were to die… I would at least like my daughter to know the reason why I-

"You're sweating. Are you alright?" My friend continued as he looked at me with concern. My thought process was broken once more as I blinked a few times. Sweating? Me? Nonsense. I haven't gotten so nervous in yea-

"A- I almost gasped when my friend put his hand onto my mouth in order to prevent what would most certainly be a disturbance that would attract unwanted attention. It was at this moment that I realized that I must regain my composure no matter what.

'Daddy!' I remembered the voice of my only daughter. The sole reason why I'm here right now. It's for that girl's future that I must obtain 'it.'. And it's for that reason that I have enlisted the help of my dear friend.

"I'm now. Thank you, Jones." I spoke with a whisper and as much confidence as I could muster in order to reassure not only my friend but myself too. My friend paused for a few seconds until he resumed walking.

"You don't have to thank me for every little thing, Tohsaka. Let's go before the guards search this room." My friend whispered as he opened the door without so much as a creak. But then to our utmost surprise-

"Who goes there?!" Someone shouted. Unfortunately, it was not just 'someone' but a Vatican Noble Guard. This was made clear when I noticed his all-black attire as well as the white sash on his body. But not even a second later-

'Bam!' My friend socked him right in the chin! The guard's eyes closed as he stumbled forward and fell right into the arms of my friend.

"That was one hell of a knockout." I whispered as me and my friend reentered the room, we were just in. Before I knew it my friend had changed out of his usual attire which consisted of his leather jacket, satchel, and fedora into the guard's uniform. He then walked past me before stopping in place.

"What did you expect? It's me after all." My friend spoke with a whisper as he smirked at me before tossing me his trusty bullwhip. He then readjusted his hat which did not suit an Archaeologist like him in the slightest, and then left the room with me in tow. But then…

"What has happened?! Are you an intruder?!" The voice of another guard from the Vatican shouted as he pulled out his firearm at me. The guard spoke in Italian. And even though I couldn't understand a word he had uttered; I knew that couldn't be good.

"You're mistaken! He's one of the Pope's good friends! I was escorting him to the Pope's chambers, sir!" My friend spoke words that I couldn't understand in the slightest as he stood in front of me.

"A-A friend of the Pope?! In the dead of night?!" The guard shouted.

"… Yes." My friend replied with a face full of confidence.

"Then why was there a scream?!" The guard snapped back.

"I saw a rat. A real nasty one." My friend responded without me knowing what he had just said though his words made a vein bulge from the guard's forehead. The guard then facepalmed himself.

"Grow a pair, you big baby!" The guard spoke before walking away in a jiffy. Now I was more confused than ever.

"What did you tell him?" I whispered as my curiosity had peaked.

"Doesn't matter. Let's go before another one of his friends come to greet us." My friend spoke with a whisper as he walked past me.

'Well, I guess it wasn't that important.' I thought internally with what was most certainly a look of disappointment as I hurried after him. What was important is that we obtain the relic that would guarantee his summoning in the War that would arrive in two years from now…

… And it is for that reason I pray our search for his tomb will now be fruitless this time.

'Creak.' My friend opened one of the many doors of the incredible St Mark's Basilica. The architecture here is truly sublime. Oh, how would I love to have had my first visit here not be a break-in-

"Tohsaka. Focus." My friend spoke as he had noticed I had been lost in thought once more.

"… Sorry." And once more I apologized to him with a solemn look on my face.

"It's fine. Let's just get this over with before they notice what we're trying to do." My friend replied as he headed downstairs and vanished from my line of sight. That was because where we were heading had no light to speak of. Light would reveal the truth of what lies down there, so they would most certainly keep that truth hidden by darkness. Or so my friend has theorized.

'Creak… creak… creak.' With each step I took the floorboards under my feet creaked. The chance of them breaking would cause me to fall to my doom and that wouldn't stop my heart from beating ferociously. The only things that were keeping me sane were the presence of my friend and the lighter in my hands that shined the way into the depths of the basement.

"Tch. I wish I had a torch." My friend clicked his tongue with a whisper though I heard his words. I had to cover my mouth with my free hand so that a chuckle wouldn't escape from my mouth. Fortunately, before I knew it, we had gotten past the stairs and with it the return of a sturdy floor.

'Oh, how have I missed you.' I thought internally with what was most certainly a relieved look on my face. Not long after that, my smile vanished when I saw a-

"I-Is that a h-human sk- I spoke but I was interrupted by my friend as he confirmed my suspicions.

"That's right. It is quite common for there to be a crypt below a church. Especially with one as old as St Mark's Basilica." My friend explained without a care in the world until noticing the petrified look on my face.

"What? Are you scared?" My friend asked with a wry smile on his face.

'Of course, he would tease me at a time like this.' I thought internally as sweat dripped from my forehead and onto the ground. But then suddenly I learned that me and my friend were not the only souls among the living present in this ghastly crypt.

"Now what would a guard of the Vatican be doing here at a time like this?" A voice went through my eardrums and my ears shot wide open. I then turned around to notice two women in nun attire. I was speechless. Why on earth would nuns be here in the dead of night?! It turns out my friend had a similar thought.

"And why would a pair of nuns be doing here at a time like this?" My friend replied with a sarcastic smile on his face. However, the women weren't irked by this in the slightest.

"Funny. Hands behind your heads. Now." The same voice from earlier spoke from the woman who was slightly taller than the other as she reached forward with one hand while putting her other hand on her elbow-AH! Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait! I-I-It couldn't be!

"Tohsaka. What has you so bothered? They are clearly unarmed." My friend replied with a confused look on his face. That's right. He may know a little about Magecraft but I haven't taught him of that spell. A spell that my family specializes in…

… as well as a certain family from Finland.

"Stay back, Jones. These two are dangerous. If my suspicions are correct, then they are…" I spoke as I held out my arm in front of my friend in order to avoid a fight we were most certainly not prepared for. I paused for a few seconds as I glared at the two women in front of us until-

"… The Edelfelt Sisters." I finished as I noticed that the smiles of the two women in front of us grew wider and much more devious.

"Busted." The slightly taller woman spoke as she removed the hood from her head revealing long blonde hair.

"Though it's no surprise that the head of the Tohsaka family would recognize us." The shorter woman spoke as she did the same as her sister revealing the same color of hair in the process. They were clearly twins, which only reaffirmed my suspicions.

"Allow us to introduce ourselves. My name is Lumia." The taller woman spoke as she revealed her name without a care in the world.

"My name is Luar." The shorter woman spoke as she and her sister's hands entwined. And then…

"And we are… the Edelfelt sisters." The women named Lumia and Luar spoke in unison as they bowed toward us. But what would be considered a gesture of courtesy did not have an inkling of good intentions behind it, that much was obvious by now. However, that didn't stop my friend from reaching for his revolver.

"I wouldn't recommend that. I assure you that my magic is far faster than your pitiful shrapnel." Luar spoke as she had her hand trained on my friend, most certainly intending to kill him before he could even touch his gun.

"Relax, Luar. This man may be stupid, but no man would dare challenge an Edelfelt to a fight and expect that they would live to see the next day." Lumia spoke with an air of confidence. That's no surprise since she and her sister have the upper hand in this dire situation.

"Well, turns out I have never heard of the name Edelfelt in my life. So, I can't say I'm scared of you, sweetheart." My friend spoke as he still did not understand the predicament, we had found ourselves in.

"Idiot. Let me show you just how dangerous I am." Lumia spoke as the smile on her face vanished as she charged up her Mana while aiming at my dear friend. I didn't have any time to lose so I had no choice but to-

"GET DOWN!" I shouted at the top of my lungs as I tackled my friend to the ground. Not even a second later-

'BAM!' Red energy shot from Lumia's hands and hit the wall behind us. It was unmistakably Gandr. So, I wasn't surprised when I noticed that the human skull that was behind us had become unrecognizable.

"Well… looks like you've got us." My friend admitted to his dissatisfaction as he knew there was nothing that could be done at this moment in time. However, he was always good at biding his time for a chance to strike back. That was all we could do for now.

"Get up. Lead us to his coffin." Luar spoke with a serious expression on her face as she was still cautious enough to extend her hand outward at us to ensure that we wouldn't try anything funny. We had no choice but to do what she said.

"What coffin? You're going to have to be specific since there are way too many here." My friend spoke as he couldn't help but joke around in dire situations like this one.

"Sister. May I kill him?" Luar asked as the stone-cold look on her face remained though it was clear that my friend had angered her.

"Not yet. First, he must lead us to his coffin. After that, I couldn't care less what you do to him." Lumia replied with a smirk. But something was off. How did they know that my friend had expertise when it came to unearthing ancient artifacts? Before I could utter a word, my friend beat me to the punch.

"And why do you think I can find… whatever you are looking for?" My friend asked with a coy smile on his face.

"You are a bad liar. But if you must know, the head of the Tohsaka family called you Jones. Combine that with the fact you are here in a crypt of all places, and it was simple to deduce that you are none other than Dr. Jones." Lumia explained while maintaining her smirk.

"Oh, was I that famous?" My friend replied with a smirk of his own as he didn't show an ounce of surprise. After all the years that I knew him, I wish I learned to be that good under pressure. I wanted to laugh at his wisecrack, but I did not want to lose my life more.

"That's enough. You will lead us to his coffin…" Luar spoke but paused for a few seconds as she moved her outstretched arm that was previously focused on my friend's head and toward…

… Me.

"… Or else I kill him. All we need is you, not that poor excuse of a Mage. There will be no further discussion." Luar finished as she stared at me with eyes as cold as glaciers while my heart roared ferociously.

"Tch… fine. Just don't hurt him, alright?" My friend replied as he relinquished any more attempts to do the bidding of the women in front of us.

"We'll see. It all depends on 'if' you can find 'it.'" Lumia declared with a smirk on her face. But she was wrong. It's not a matter of 'if' but when. Because my friend is undoubtedly the greatest archaeologist of this era. And of course, no one knew this fact better than the man himself.

"I will find it. Just stop intimidating my friend like that. It's pissing me off." My friend admitted though he did not need to worry about me. Even if I die… I'm ok with that. As long as my efforts secure a bright future for her.

"I'll be fine. Just do what you're good at, Jones." I responded with a smile. Even though I had accepted my Fate… I appreciated his concern for my wellbeing. He really is the very best friend that anyone can ask for.

"You don't have to tell me twice." My friend replied with a reassuring smirk as he observed his surroundings. I could barely make out what was a few meters away from me with the dimly lit light courtesy of the lighter in my hands. Jones had to get up close and personal in order to find what everyone in this crypt were seeking…

… The final resting place of the king of Macedon, Alexander the Great. If I could just get my hands on his ashes, then I could surely summon him in the Holy Grail War two years from now. I just wish this place didn't give me the willies-

"AAAAAAAAAAAAGH!" A shriek destroyed my train of thought as I looked forward to find out that it had come from my friend who was now on the ground… what?!

"W-What did you do to him?!" I yelled out as I looked at the two women behind me. But they were just as confused as I was.

"Luar. Please tell me you did not disobey me. Again." Lumia spoke as she looked at her younger sister.

"I did not do anything. You. Head of the Tohsaka. Check on him." Luar replied to her sister before turning her attention to me with an order I could not refuse. I treaded lightly making sure that I didn't step on something that could spell certain doom for myself until I reached Jones.

"Jones! What on earth happened to you?!" I yelled out as I noticed an intense look of fear in my friend's eyes. Just what could have caused him to experience such fright, I wondered until my eyes laid upon just 'what' had caused it.

"S-S-S- My friend stuttered uncontrollably which was completely unlike him. No. There's only one thing that could make him this petrified. It was none other than the natural enemy of Jones. In other words-

"Sssssssss!" A snake bared its fangs and hissed at me and my friend. In contrast, I was not scared of snakes in the slightest though I had come to understand firsthand that fear was something Jones would never get over until the end of his days.

"Hahaha! Oh wow! What a pitiful child you are! Hahaha!" Lumia laughed loudly as she was enjoying every second of this. Luar on the other hand-

'BAM!' Did not find the situation amusing in the slightest. In a split second, she had unleashed Gandr and scored a direct hit on the snake, wiping all traces of it off the face of the earth.

"To think something as harmless as an ant would cause you such distress. You are a joke of a man." Luar spoke words in an attempt to damage my friend's pride. I wanted nothing more than to defend him but before I could he had regained his calm and composed attitude.

"Well, I can assure you that I'm full of surprises." Jones snapped back as he stood up and brushed the dirt off of his current attire. He then fiddled around with some of the human skulls until-

"Stop stalling! Don't think I was bluffing because I will surely make you regret it if you- Lumia yelled out with what was surely an unpleasant look on her face, but she was cut off when suddenly-

'Creak!' A noise that resembled one that a door would make when being opened went through my eardrums. I then found the source of the noise when I focused my eyes on what was in front of Jones.

'Good heavens! Is that a secret entrance?!" I yelled out of surprise as my friend's tampering with the skulls of the deceased had resulted in this turn of events! A secret entrance can only mean that whatever lies in there was being kept hidden from the world! Something that very well could be the remains of the late great King of Conquerors!

"Bingo. I assume that you're thinking what I'm thinking Tohsaka." My friend replied with a smug look on his face and a wink as we had both come to the same conclusion. Now all there's left is to obtain it…

… Finally… after all this time… it's almost in my grasp-

"Don't get ahead of yourself. Whatever is in there belongs to me and my sister. If you even so much as look at it…" Luar spoke but paused for a few seconds as she moved closer until-

"… You and your friend won't live to see the sunrise." Luar finished as she whispered words that made her malicious intent crystal clear. That's right. Even if what we seek truly lies in that secret room…

… Only a miracle can prevent the dreaded Edelfelt sisters from claiming it. I just hope that my friend will be able to make a miracle happen. Most of all for her sake.

"Hahaha. Perfect. You haven't disappointed me yet, Dr. Jones. To think that by following you here would ensure the Edelfelt's participation in the next great war." Lumia laughed as she revealed quite a bombshell.

"How long have you been tailing us?" Jones asked as he glared daggers at the older Edelfelt sister.

"Ever since you two broke into the Nabi Daniel Mosque. What a coincidence that we noticed you and the head of the Tohsaka escape from there by the skin of your teeth. If you perhaps made your exit much more… stealthy, then we would surely not be here now. I, Lumia Edelfelt thank you from the bottom of my heart." Lumia explained as she bowed toward Jones.

"Lumia. Why would you tell them that?" Luar asked with confusion written all over her face.

"No harm, no foul. We clearly have the upper hand here. They can do nothing but give us what is ours on a silver platter. Now, get to it. I don't have all night. A beautiful woman like myself needs her beauty sleep. Wouldn't you agree, Dr. Jones?" Lumia spoke with what was surely a seductive look on her face though thankfully my friend did not succumb to his urges this time.

"I prefer women who don't threaten to kill me. But it seems that is all I can find these days." Jones replied as he did not waste a second to venture into the hidden passageway.

'Step… step… step…' Jones moved ever so carefully so that he wouldn't activate a booby trap that may lie hidden within the passageway. Lumia was clearly annoyed by this since her actions from earlier made her lack of patience clear as day. On the other hand, Luar remained as still as a stone statue as she surely had her eyes trained like a hawk on me and Jones…

… Finally, I was watching my friend with bated breath until after what seemed like an eternity, he reached the center of the passageway.

"…" My friend then wordlessly grunted as he picked something that appeared to be made out of stone.

'Bam!' Not even a second later he tossed the stone onto the ground. And then I heard the words that I had been waiting to hear for months-

"Tohsaka! I found it!" Jones shouted from roughly ten meters away. The older Edelfelt sister wasted no time by following after my friend. However, by doing so she carelessly traversed over what he had avoided-

'Whooosh!' An arrow soared through the air and toward Lumia! Its tip was surely coated with poison that would prove fatal. The older Edelfelt sister had no time to react and would have undoubtedly perished if it wasn't for-

'BAM!' Her younger sister fired a shot of Gandr that incinerated the arrow to smithereens. Lumia was speechless as her life probably flashed before her eyes and stood motionlessly until her sister along with myself reached her.

"Be more careful." Luar spoke as she extended a hand toward her older sister which the latter took without a second of thought. But Lumia clearly did not learn her lesson as her next choice of words would reveal.

"I don't need to be careful since I have you looking out for me." Lumia replied with a smile as she moved forward until we all reached Jones. But then to our surprise-

"I HEARD A NOISE! IT CAME FROM DOWN HERE!" A voice shouted at the top of their lungs that was accompanied by the sound of hurried footsteps. Oh no! They must have heard us when Luar destroyed the arrow!

"Tch. Go and quell their anger if you know what's good for you!" Lumia commanded to Jones since he was the only one of us posing as a guard of the Vatican. She also probably thought that even if he failed then he would serve as a shield for the guards' bullets or so I surmised. I went to join my friend but before I could I felt a hand grasp my shoulder.

"Now where do you think you're going? You're the collateral here. Don't think you'll be able to escape from me and my sister." Luar spoke making it crystal clear that I had no choice but to remain still unless I desired to forfeit my life. From the corner of my eye, I spotted Lumia as she made her way toward what was surely the coffin that belonged to Alexander the Great. But then…

"What?! T-There's nothing here?! Luar! We've been tricked!" Lumia yelled out as my eyes shot wide open. W-why would he lie about that? Wait a second. After all the years that I've known him, I should know what was about to happen next-

"I found the intruders! They are in there!" Jones yelled out words that I couldn't understand in the slightest.

"TOHSAKA! GET DOWN!" Jones shouted at the top of his lungs. In contrast to the words, he spoke earlier that were spoken in Italian, these words were in English! Even though I didn't know much English, I knew what they meant! I wasted no time to drop to the floor as not even a second later-

'BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!' Gunfire rained out as my eardrums were pierced by the loud sounds of bullets hitting their targets! Thankfully I was not harmed!

"Phew." I muttered but then my eyes shot wide open as I noticed that several pieces of ice floating in mid-air! I didn't even need to ask because it was all but obvious that one of the Edelfelt sisters had casted it. Though if I had to bet it was probably the younger one. She must have used a high-speed incantation!

"Fixierung, Eile Salve!" Luar shouted words that I knew well. They meant Aim Valley Fire respectively. It was a dangerous spell that allowed Mages to-

'BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!' Fire Gandr shots like a machine gun! There wasn't much you could do against it if you weren't talented in Reinforcement Magecraft. However…

… Guards of the Vatican were a part of the rivals of the Mage's Association, the Holy Church!

'Whooosh!' Before I knew it, someone in a priest's attire stormed through the passageway with lethal daggers known as Black Keys in his hands! This meant that he was not just a priest but an Executor!

"Damn Mage!" The Executor shouted as they leaped into the air and aimed their black keys at the younger Edelfelt sister! But before they could reach her-

"Identifizieren, bestagen und kontinuierlich feuern!" Lumia shouted words that meant identify, confirm, and fire continuously in that order. It was similar to the spell that the younger Edelfelt sister used as it-

'BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!' Was used to continuously fire Gandr shots.

"BLAAAAAAAAGH!" The Executor was pierced with all five shots causing him to cough up blood and collapse to the ground. Even an Executor couldn't survive a direct assault like that. However, with the Edelfelt Sister's attention on the Exorcist… even if it was for just a second…

… It gave me my one and only opportunity to escape!

'Step! Step! Step! Step! Step!' I sprinted as fast as my legs could move out of the passageway! If I could only just get back to Jones-

"I warned you. Now die." Luar spoke with words that did not hide her ill intent whatsoever. But even though the young woman's words sent shivers down my spine… I was NOT going to let her kill me!

"Acht!" I shouted as I fired a jewel at the younger Edelfelt Sister! The jewel moved throughout the air and was about to hit her forehead, which would have been a fatal blow! Victory was in my grasp! But to my surprise-

"Ich werde Sie gehen lassen. Sturm, dur umsturzt!" Lumia shouted a high-speed incantation as she tossed several emeralds into the air! I knew these words as well! They meant Release, Storm, and Strike! But even though I knew them, not even a second later-

'WHOOOSH!' A powerful gust of wind was created that not only sent the jewel that I had thrown into the air off course, but as well as causing me to lose my balance!

"Oof!" I groaned in pain as my body crashed into the ground. Luar was also sent to the ground by the gust of wind. But Lumia is now about to corner me! Damn it! I was so close! Just a single meter! If only I was just a bit faster, then I would have been able to escape! Am I going to die? I can't! I refuse to die until I am able to save my-

"Tohsaka! Toss me my whip!" Jones yelled out as I was brought back to my senses. I realized that my friend's bullwhip was still in my hands ever since he gave it to me when he disguised himself as one of the guards!

"Take it!" I yelled out as I tossed him his whip! That's right. I must survive! I refuse to accept defeat! I won't let Fate take anyone else I care about! It is for that reason; I must participate in the Third Holy Grail War! I will ensure a bright future for my daughter…

… And it is for that reason that I enlisted the aid of my most trusted friend Dr. Henry Walton Jones Jr or more commonly known as-

"Don't you dare Jones!" Luar shouted as she stood back up and charged up her Mana for a devastating attack but before that-

"My name's Indiana Jones…" Jones spoke but paused for a second to use his trusty bullwhip to-

"Woah!" I yelled out as my hand was entangled with the leather of the bullwhip while I was pulled out of the passageway and back into the crypt! Jones then used his bullwhip once more to-

'BAM!' Smack a certain human skull! But not just any skull! The one that was used to open this secret entrance! And then…

"… And it was a pleasure to meet such fine women." Jones finished as he smirked while the door to the secret entrance was shut once more! By all odds, my friend was able to produce a miracle that allowed us to escape!

"JONES! YOU WON'T GET AWAY WITH THIS! I SWEAR THAT I, LUMIA EDELFELT WILL KILL YOU AND TOHSAKA BY THE TIME THE NEXT WAR BEGINS!" Lumia shouted at the top of her lungs as she and her younger sister were trapped in the secret entrance. Though that wouldn't be for long since they were both Mages…

… But by the time they escaped, we will have vanished into the night!

And that's exactly what happened. Me and Jones escaped the St. Mark's Basilica under the cover of the moonlit night sky. We managed to board a train just as the sun rose once again. Unfortunately, it appears that my efforts to procure the ashes of Alexander the Great proved futile as they must have completely disintegrated after all these centuries. I suppose that I will have to summon a different Heroic Spirit. I just hope they will be strong enough to guarantee my victory. – Tatsuo Tohsaka. January 19th, 1937. But just as I had finished my journal entry recounting I and Jones's latest adventure…

"Tohsaka. Are you still writing in that journal?" a familiar voice asked as I looked up to from the book in my hands to notice that it came from my dear friend.

"I just finished. Sorry about the wait." I apologized with a smile as I closed my journal and put it back into my breast pocket. I noticed that Jones had put back on his usual attire in the time that it took me to finish writing.

"You don't need to apologize for every little thing. It's fine. I just have one question on my mind that I've got to ask before we go our separate ways." Jones spoke in a serious tone of voice. I already knew what his question was. It was something that I avoided telling him since I didn't want to get him involved in something so dangerous.

"I suppose I can't hide it from you any longer. The reason why I requested your assistance on our latest escapade… was because I needed the remains of… you know who. In two years from now… there will be a war… one between Magi like me and those women… one that will grant the winner something beyond their wildest dreams. That's all I can say for now." I explained hoping that my friend would be able to understand without all of the details. It's not that I didn't trust him… but with all of the people around us…

… It would be dangerous to say anything more.

"I'm not gonna act like I understood what you just told me. But… I trust you. You are my friend after all." Jones admitted as he put something in my hands. I looked below and saw something red… it wasn't blood thankfully… but something that was made out of cloth… wait! Is that-

"You don't mean that this was- I spoke but was cut off as my friend confirmed my theory.

"Yeah. That was the only thing I found in his coffin. I doubt something that had no relation to him could have found its way in there. Which means… you can use that for the war." Jones replied with a smile. I couldn't help myself at that moment. I just had to-

"Thank you! Thank you so much!" I shouted at the top of my lungs as I held my friend's hand with my own. Though my loud voice alerted the other passengers of the train. Something that Jones took note of.

"Calm down! Everyone's staring!" Jones yelled out as his words drove me back to my senses.

"Sorry… I was just so happy… that I couldn't contain myself." I replied with a smile of my own.

"Enough with the sorries! Jeez. I'm going to get some shuteye. Wake me up when we arrive at our destination." Jones replied as he grabbed the tip of his hat and pushed it down to cover his face.

'I guess even the great Indiana Jones can get embarrassed' I thought to myself with a smile as I looked out of the window and watched the beautiful sunrise. Before I knew it, we had arrived at our destination, an airport in Milan. Jones would be returning to America while I had to return to Fuyuki in order to prepare for the Holy Grail War…

… This may be the last time we see other… no. I shouldn't be thinking like that.

"Thank you for everything, Jones. Until we meet again." I spoke with a bright smile on my face as I said my farewells to my friend. That's right. I might be a bit of a pessimist… but I must remain optimistic for the future. If I don't…

… Then what will become of her future?

"See you around, Tohsaka." Jones replied as he waved his hand in a common gesture. After that, we went our separate ways. Unfortunately, that adventure in January of 1937 would prove to be the last time we ever saw each other again…

… As just two years later… I was killed by an unknown enemy who sought to obtain the Holy Grail by any means necessary. But I had predicted such a turn of events. Which is why I asked for one last favor from my most trusted friend…

… To participate in the Third Holy Grail War by becoming a Master and summoning a Servant of his own. So, that he can protect my only daughter. Thus, began a series of events that would shape the Fates of my friend's life and my daughter's life as well…

… This is the beginning of that story.
