Hanging On The Edge-Ch 1
Derek Michael Morgan loved his life, well most of the time, he had a job that he loved and he was good at it, he lived in Virginia and was the captain with the mountain rescue squad where he had worked for over 5 years. He was all smiles as he walked into the station, his teammates all grinned at him and nodded their heads as he joined them at the table.
The last couple of days had been quiet for the rescue squad, they had only been on a couple of rescues and Derek was hoping that today was another one of those days since after today he was off for the weekend. All of his hopes would soon be dashed when he would soon be thrust into a rescue that would definitely change his life forever and for the better.
Penelope Grace Garcia smiled as she slid into the front seat of her rental car, she blew out a deep breath and said, "only a few more days till I get my baby back and ohhhhh how momma has missed you my sweet sweet baby". A few minutes later she remembered that she needed to pick up a few things so she stopped at the supermarket to do just that.
When she was standing in the check out line it felt like somebody was staring at her but when she glanced around she didn't see anybody so she shook her head as she stood waiting for her turn to check out. A few minutes later she was loading her groceries into the car, she sighed and then climbed behind the wheel, put her key in the ignition and pulled out of the parking lot so that she could continue her ride home.
The weather changed in a matter of a few minutes and the clear night turned stormy with thunder, lightening and pouring rain, she turned on her wipers and said, "why now, why meeeee?" as she slowed down for the upcoming curvy road that was coming up soon. Out of nowhere a car came up behind her and bumped her, she said, "heyyyy, what are you doing idiotttttttt?" as she continued to try to keep her car out of the ditch and on the road.
The car bumped her a few more times as he tried to knock her out of the road, against her better judgement she sped up a little in hopes of getting away from the crazy person that was behind her. Her car started going from side to side and then she screamed as she was hit one final time causing her car to flip over onto his top and star sliding across the road.
She knew that the road dropped off into a steep canyon and she prayed that the car would stop before she fell to her death, the car that had been trying to knock her off of the road stopped and watched as the car slid to the end of the mountain and stopped. Penelope slowly reached for her seat belt and tried to get if off but it was stuck, she said, "come on Garcie, think, think, you can do this girl".
Her hand slid into her pocket and she grabbed her cell, she dialed a number and after a couple of rings she heard her best friend say, "hey Garcie, you make it home yet?", Penelope said, "J J J Jayje I need help and I need it like yesterday". JJ looked up from her desk and said, "alright, calm down, what's wrong?", hearing JJ's worried voice the rest of her team looked up and waited to see what was wrong with Penlope.
JJ put her cell on speaker and everybody listened as Penelope frantically filled them in on everything that had happened, Emily grabbed her cell and dialed 911 to tell them about Penelope's accident so that they could get help headed her way. JJ said, "we're on the way Garcia, just stay as still as you can okay?", Penelope said, "will do Jayje, will do but pleaseeeeee hurry because this all seeing all knowing oracle doesn't want to die".
Meanwhile at the rescue station Derek listened as a call came for him and his squad over the radio, they all geared up and jumped into their rescue vehicles and raced from the station so that they could respond to the call. On the scene Penelope screamed as the car started sliding again, she said, "pleaseeeee, pleaseeeeeeee don't let me fall, pleaseeeeeeee, I'm a good girl, well I try to be one, pleaseeeeeeee, pleaseeeee don't let it end this way for me".
It was only a matter of a few seconds before the rocks underneath the car started falling and she felt the front of the car starting to slip, she closed her eyes and said, "I love you my team of crime fighters, please remember this oracle fondly". She then heard cars pull up and she heard doors shut and voices shouting, she screamed, "hereeeeeeeee, I'm hereeeeeee, please help me, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee" and then the car slid a little further over the hill.
Derek's team worked fast to try to stabilize the car but in the process it slid a little further down over the hill and was now dangling on the edge of another cliff causing Penelope to scream and start crying again. Derek said, 'keep the car as steady as you can, I need to get her out", the men nodded their heads yes and watched as their boss hooked himself onto the rescue line and slowly started making his way down over the steep hill and to the car that was only a few minutes from falling.
