Helm's Deep

Night

The night was quiet as they all waited for the enemy to arrive. In the distance, they could hear the marching of Saruman's army and before they saw the army of Uruks marching, holding some torches.

Along the wall, the Doctor and Rory stood with Legolas, Gimli, and Aragorn. Rory had changed into the Rohirrim armor he had been given.

River and Boromir stood with the Rohirrim soldiers. River silently noted most of them had been drafted by Théoden. She repressed a shutter, remembering how Kovarian had used her as a child.

"You could have picked a better spot!" Gimli complained, too short to see over the wall.

The Doctor and Rory smothered their snickers as Legolas smirked and Aragorn grinned slightly, in spite of the situation.

"Whatever luck you live by Doctor, I hope it lasts the night," Gimli said with a glance at The Doctor, who smiled tightly.

Normally, The Doctor would say how he doesn't believe in luck. But his encounter with Tara was making him rethink many long held beliefs.

Thunder struck as they all looked out the approaching army, a sense of unease filling the air.

"Your friends are with you, Aragorn," Legolas promised.

"Let's hope they last the night," Gimli said grimly.

"We want to survive this, we have to," Rory said firmly.

Thunder stuck once more before it began rain, the water pouring down on them. Aragorn continued to walk along the wall, shouting something in Elvish.

"Let me guess, 'Show no mercy'?" Rory asked Legolas dryly and he nodded.

"How'd you know?"

"Because it's what I'd say," Rory said darkly.

Then, the army stopped. No one said a word as the Uruk General climbed up onto a rock, facing them and letting out a roar as a battle cry. A sound that was soon echoed by his subordinates.

"What's happening out there?!" Gimli asked, trying and failing to jump up high enough to see.

"Shall I describe it to you?" Legolas asked and Gimli glared at him. "Or would you like me to find you a box?"

Gimli was silent for a moment before smiling and laughing. But the moment of comradery was broken by the sound of the Uruk army slamming their pikes of the ground, creating a rhythm.

Aragorn and The Doctor drew their swords as Legolas and Rory joined the archers in notching their bows with an arrow. For a moment, it was silent, the banging of the pikes almost too loud for thought. Then, one of the archers, put off by the tense atmosphere, accidently fired and an arrow went sailing through the air.

It struck an Uruk in the neck and all was quiet as Aragorn shouted in Elvish, everyone staring in shock, the Uruks stopping to stare at what had happened. The wounded Uruk groaned in pain before falling forward, dead.

Enraged, the other Uruks began roaring as the General roared an order. There was no doubt what it was as the army began rushing forward.

"So it begins," Théoden said ominously.

Aragorn shouted in Elvish as Haldir and the Elf archers all notched their bows taking aim. Legolas said something and Rory, knowing what it was, having noticed the same thing, translated.

"The armor is weak around the neck and beneath the arm."

Aragorn shouted in Elvish again but this time, no translation was required, all of them understanding his orders. The Elvish archers, along with Rory, fired. The arrows impaled several of the Uruks.

"Did they get anything?!" Gimli asked desperately.

"Give them a volley," Théoden told Gamling, who nodded.

"Fire!"

At his command, the human archers fired as well, firing and even more Uruks were slain as Boromir and River watched uneasily.

"This is too easy," River muttered and Boromir couldn't help but agree, knowing Saruman had some sort of plan.

Elf and human archers then fired together, getting multiple Uruks until the Uruks began returning fire, getting some of the Elves. The Uruks then began putting up ladders, using them to climb up.

"Ladders!" Aragorn shouted in warning as the ladders were put up, with some Uruks now face to face with Elves and Men.

Although these were a different kind of Uruk. They wore a strange kind of helmet and snarled at the Elves with razor sharp teeth.

"Swords! Swords!" Aragorn shouted.

Rory drew his Elvish blade along with the Elves before the Uruks rushed them. Aragorn, The Doctor, Rory and Gimli engaged them with the Elves. Rory blocked the strike of one before delivering a kick to its chest. As it stumbled back, Rory ducked, performing a spinning motion before slicking with his sword, cutting its legs. As the Uruk cried in pain, Rory kicked it in the chest, sending it falling over the wall.

Behind him, Gimli struck his axe into the torso of one, spraying black blood everywhere as The Doctor and Aragorn each engaged one in a sword duel. As they fought, several of the Elves fell to the Uruks. Aragorn was knocked on his back before slicing the Uruk on its knee cap, causing it to cry out in pain before Aragorn drove his sword into its abdomen.

The Doctor, meanwhile, was holding his own against the Uruk. It backed him up against the ledge before The Doctor suddenly jumped out of the way.

"Geronimo!" The Doctor cried before striking it in the side, sending it falling over the ledge.

Another Uruk was taking out a few Elves before Gimli slid out from between its legs, sticking it there.

"Legolas! Two already!" Gimli shouted as he got to his feet.

"I'm on seventeen!" Legolas shouted back.

"Can you not make it into a competition?" Rory asked in exasperation, engaging another before driving his sword into its abdomen.

"You just don't want to be left behind!" Gimli chuckled.

"How many have you killed Rory?" Legolas asked as he fired an arrow.

"I don't know, about twenty," Rory said with a shrug before he whirled around, swing his sword and cutting off the head of another Uruk. "Twenty-one."

No further words were spoken as the battle continued, all of them attempting to fend off the Uruks.

Fangorn Forest

Same time

"Merry. Amy," Pippin called out and the trio looked up to see Treebeard approach.

"We have just agreed…" Treebeard trailed off as the three got to their feet.

"You've agreed?" Amy asked.

"I have told your names to the Entmoot…and we have agreed…you are not Orcs," Treebeard said and three pairs of eyes stared at him in disbelief.

"Gandalf told you that," Amy said in exasperation.

"And what about Saruman? Have you come to a decision about him?" Merry demanded.

"Now don't be hasty now, Master Meriadoc," Treebeard said.

"Oi! My best friend and the man I plan to marry are out there, fighting this war! They need your help!" Amy shouted angrily.

"Amy's right. They can't fight this war on their own," Merry added.

"War? Yes, it affects us all. Tree, root, and twig. But you must understand, it takes a long time to say anything in Old Entish. And we under say anything at all unless it is worth saying."

Helm's Deep

Same time

The battle was continuing to rage. Gimli was striking down multiple Uruks with his axe as, nearby; The Doctor strikes an Uruk before throwing down one of the ladders.

"Someone get the rest of these before they overwhelm us!" The Doctor shouted before turning back, blocking another strike from an Uruk.

As River used her knife, taking out as many Uruks as she can, Boromir saw several Uruks heading up the wall, armed with shields resembling riot shields.

"Causeway!" Aragorn shouted as he saw them.

Boromir joined the Rohan soldiers in firing, striking the Uruks. Some of the children threw rocks, helping throw them off.

"Is this it? Is this all you can conjure Saruman?" Théoden asked, beginning to feel curtain that they would win this battle.

Boromir then saw something that chilled him to the bone.

"Aragorn!"

At the sound of Boromir's voice, Aragorn turned in the direction of the Son of Gondor, seeing him pointing at something. Turning, he saw an Uruk running towards the bottom of the wall, holding a torch. Realizing the same thing Boromir had, Aragorn quickly looked around.

"Legolas!" Rory, who had seen the same thing and was near Legolas, pointed it out to him. "Take him down!"

Legolas nodded, firing an arrow. It struck the Uruk in its throat but it kept going. Legolas fired again, getting in the throat but it still somehow continued towards its destination. It leapt forward, reaching its destination.

All of Helm's Deep was then rocked by an explosion, destroying part of the wall and sending several of their forces, including The Doctor, Aragorn, Gimli, and Rory flying.

Théoden stared in horror before he saw the Uruks with shields running towards the gate before unveiling a battering ram.

"Brace the gate!" Théoden shouted and several of his soldiers pressed their own bodies to the other side of the gate as the Uruks brought the ram down on it.

The Uruks continued to try and force their way in when River suddenly jumped down, stabbing one in the neck. She pushed it off the castaway as the Uruks turned to face her but, faster than they could blink; River whirled around, stabbing several Uruks in the neck, killing them. The battering rang was dropped as the Uruks snarled at her. River smiled before lifting her knife, the challenge clear.

The Doctor and Aragorn came to, lying on the ground.

"Doctor? Are you all right?" Aragorn asked as they sat up.

"I feel like I went a few rounds with a Minotaur," The Doctor joked.

Hearing sounds behind them, the pair whirled around, stunned to see Uruks marching towards them.

"Aragorn! Doctor!" The pair watched in disbelief as Gimli jumped into the fray, landing on top the Uruks and making the fall on their faces.

"Gimli!" Aragorn called out.

Gimli struck an Uruk with his axe before being knocked down by another. Aragorn shouted in Elvish to the Elves behind him and they fired, taking down several Uruk. Aragorn shouted again and he, the Doctor, and the Elves rushed the Uruks.

River continued fighting the Uruks. She was doing well, but she was surrounded. As she continued fighting with only her knife, the children threw rocks at the Uruks, trying to knock them off.

As Aragorn, The Doctor and Gimli, along with the elves, continued fighting the Uruks, Legolas, using one of the Uruk's shields, slide down the steps, firing arrows. He killed several Uruks before reaching the bottom of the stairs and leaping off its, kicking the shield. It struck an Uruk, penetrating its chest and it went down, dead as Legolas continued engaging Uruks.

"Now you're just showing off!" Rory shouted as he jumped down, beginning to engage a few Uruks.

Legolas didn't respond as, a few feet away, Aragorn and The Doctor lifted Gimli out of the water as The Doctor stared at Legolas in disbelief..

"And River calls me a showoff," The Doctor muttered.

"The battle is not over, my friends. It is just beginning," Aragorn said grimly.

No more words were spoken, The Doctor and Aragorn drawing their swords and Gimli picking up his axe before the group rushed forward, all of them determined to continue this battle, even though none of them were sure how they would last the night.

The Battle of Helm's Deep has begun. Hope I did it justice.
