Fangorn Forest

Early Morning

"And those little family of field mice, that climb up sometimes, and they tickle me awfully! They're always trying to get somewhere where they..."

Treebeard had been talking to Amy, Merry and Pippin when he paused as he exited the forest, staring at the site that greeted him. Where had once been a forest full of lush trees, now there a giant gap in the forest, only stumps that had been violently cut down.

"Many of these trees were my friends," Treebeard said, sounding on the verge of tears. "Creatures I had known from nut and acorn."

"I'm sorry Treebeard," Pippin said, hating what he'd done but knowing it had been necessary for Treebeard to see the truth.

"They had voices of their own," Treebeard said before looking in the distance, his voice growing darker as he saw Isengard. "Saruman. A Wizard should know better!"

Treebeard then let out a mighty roar, one that echoed throughout the entire forest as Amy and the Hobbits looked around, uneasy.

"There is no curse in Elvish, Entish or the tongue of men for this treachery," Treebeard said darkly.

"Look! The trees! They're moving!" Pippin pointed out and they saw the trees at the edge of the forest moving around, howling in rage.

"Where are they going?" Merry wondered.

"They have business with the Orcs," Treebeard said.

"About bloody time," Amy muttered.

"My business is with Isengard tonight...with rock and stone," Treebeard said before they heard movement behind them.

"It's an army of trees," Amy said as they saw dozen of Ents walk up beside Treebeard.

"Yes!" Merry said with a smirk.

"Come, my friends! The Ents are going to war. It is likely...that we go to our doom. Last march…...of the Ents."

With those words, Treebeard marched forward, the other Ents following him as they headed towards Isengard and to war.

Helm's Deep

Later that morning

Inside the keep, the Fellowship was doing their best to barricade the doors even as the Uruks banged their battering ram on the other side. But they knew it wouldn't hold long.

"The fortress is taken," Théoden said in a defeated voice form where he stood watching this next to Gamling. "It is over."

"You said this fortress would never fall while your men defend it. They still defend it! They have died defending it!" Aragorn shouted as he, Legolas and The Doctor picked up some more items to block the door, among them a bench.

"We might be joining them soon," Rory grunted as he felt the battering ram on the door.

"The door won't hold much longer," River added.

"Is there no other way for the women and children to get out of the caves?" Aragorn asked and, when Théoden didn't answer, turned to Gamling. "Is there no other way?"

"There is one passage. It leads into the mountains. But they will not get far. The Uruk-hai are too many," Gamling said.

"It's the safest option. Tell them to make their way there and block the entrance," The Doctor ordered before Gamling began making his way to do just that.

"So much death. What can Men do against such reckless hate?" Théoden said, seeming lost in his head.

Having had enough, The Doctor walked over and, to the shock of all, slapped Théoden across the face.

"Oi! Enough of your self-pity! Yes, our odds seem hopeless! But I've seen worse odds and seen great leader conquer them anyway! The time to give up has long passed, it is time to fight! If not for yourself, then for your people!" The Doctor shouted at the stunned Théoden.

"The Doctor is right," Aragorn said after a moment. "Ride out with us, for Rohan. For your people."

"The sun is rising," Gimli said randomly.

Aragorn looked up towards the window, seeing sunlight beginning to shine though. Remembering Gandalf's words, he and The Doctor shared a look.

"Let us hope Gandalf arrives in time," The Doctor said.

"Yes," Théoden said and they could see the fire return to his eyes, The Doctor's words having had the desired effect. "Yes. The horn of Helm Hammerhand…shall sound in the Deep….one last time."

"Yes!" Gimli cheered before rushing off.

"Aragorn, Doctor, let this be the hour when we draw swords together," Théoden said as he turned back to them.

"It would be my honor, Théoden King," The Doctor said with a smile as Aragorn nodded.

Not long after, Théoden, Aragorn, The Doctor, Boromir, Legolas, Rory, River and Haldir along with the remaining Rohirrim and Elves had mounted horses. The door buckled under the force of the battering ram as they all readied themselves, drawing their swords.

"Fell deeds, awake! Now for wrath. . . . . . now for ruin and a red dawn!" Théoden declared as he donned his helmet.

A horn then sounded before the door burst open, the battering ram smashing it apart.

"Forth Eorlingas!"

At Théoden's cry, they all rushed forward, attacking with Uruks with everything they had. Slashing and cutting them down, the group rode out to meet the army head on. Pushing them off the bridge, they could see the Uruks had now filled the valley, backing them in and surrounding.

"Look!" Aragorn suddenly cried, pointing towards the east.

The rest of the Fellowship followed his gaze, seeing a lone figure on a white house.

"Gandalf," Aragorn whispered.

"Well, he picked a bloody brilliant time to show up," Rory grunted as he swung his sword, beheading an Uruk.

"And he is not alone," Boromir noted as they saw a familiar figure in armor ride up beside Gandalf.

"Rohirrim!" Eomer shouted and the Riders of Rohan quickly rode up beside him.

"Eomer," Théoden said happily as he saw this.

Gandalf and Eomer then led the Riders of Rohan down the hill, prepared to meet the Uruks in battle. The Uruks turned to meet them, raising their spikes but several rays of sun blinked them and they had to shield their eyes. This allowed the Riders of Rohan to ride in, cutting them down with ease.

Isengard

Same time

It was absolute chaos as the Ents laid waste to Saruman's forces. The Ents threw large boulders, which crushed the Orcs or used their bare hands to send them flying. Treebeard roared as he tossed a boulder, crushing an Orc before stomping on another, killing it instantly.

Form on top Treebeard's shoulders, Amy and the Hobbits were throwing rocks, one of which that had been thrown by Pippin struck an Orc across the head and sent him falling.

"A fine hit," Treebeard complimented.

As some of the archers began setting Ents on fire, Treebeard cried out an order.

"Break the dam! Release the river!"

An Ent followed his orders, pulling some wood away and the water burst through the dam, the stone wall collapsing as the water flooded he battlefield.

"Oi! I think you two better hold on!" Amy told the Hobbits as she saw this.

"Hold on!" Treebeard agreed, all of them bracing themselves as the water hit.

Helm's Deep

Same time

The Uruks, sensing the tide turn as Eomer, Gandalf and the Riders of Rohan continued cutting them down, turned, attempting to flee the battlefield.

"Victory! We have victory!" Théoden cried victoriously.

Isengard

Same time

As the flood died down, from his castle, Saruman stared, horrified as he realized his forces had all been wiped out. Fearfully, Saruman retreated back into his castle, closing the doors behind him.

Helm's Deep

Same time

The Uruks began retreating, heading for the forest behind Helm's Deep.

"Since when does Helm's Deep have a forest?" Rory asked as they began riding after them.

"That is a very good question Rory," The Doctor noted before Eomer rode in front of them, blocking their path.

"Stay out of the forest! Stay away from the trees," Eomer ordered.

They all paused; confused as they watched the Uruks flee. Then, once they were all inside the forest, the tree began to move and they all watched, in disbelief as the trees began to move.

"Bloody Hell," The Doctor muttered as they heard the Uruks cry out in fear and pain.

"Even nature itself is fighting back against Saruman," River whispered in amazement.

Later, The Doctor, River, Aragon and Haldir entered the fortress. Seeing them, Eowyn smiled brightly.

"Tales of this will be told for years to come," Haldir told The Doctor and River. "No one will ever forget the tale of The Doctor who stood with the king or of River Song, who placed herself between The Uruks and the gate of Helm's Deep."

"Try not to let it go to your head," River told The Doctor, who merely smiled.

"With you around, Dr. Song? Never."

Gimli was sitting on top of a dead Uruk, which he had embedded his ax into and was smoking a pipe when Legolas walked up to him.

"Final count, 42," Legolas said as he held up his bow.

"42?" Gimli said mockingly. "That's not bad for a pointy-eared Elvish princeling. I myself am sitting pretty on 43."

Legolas suddenly fired an arrow at the dead Uruk on which Gimli was sitting, "43."

"He was already dead." Gimli said in disbelief.

"He was twitching." Legolas countered.

"He was twitching because he's got my ax embedded in his nervous system!" Gimli shouted, moving his axe and making the dead Uruk squirm to demonstrate.

"So this place has some understanding of biology. Good to know," Rory said as he walked over.

"How many did you get, Rory?" Legolas asked and Rory shrugged.

"Wasn't really paying attention. I lost count around 56," Rory said and the two stared at him in disbelief.

"Surely you jest, Rory," Legolas said and Rory shrugged.

"If that helps your pride, believe it all you want," Rory said as he walked off, leaving the Elf and Dwarf staring after him, wondering if he was joking or not.

Isengard

Same time

Amy spit out a mouth full of water, moving her wet hair out of her eyes as she stood with Merry and Pippin. The water came up to Merry and Pippin's waists, and the trio stared at the castle, where they could see Saruman and Grima.

"He doesn't look too happy, does he?" Merry asked.

"Not too happy at all, Merry," Pippin said in amusement.

"Still, I suppose the view would be quite nice from up there," Merry joked.

"Oh, yes. It's a quality establishment," Pippin joked back. "I hear the staff are very good."

Amy smiled in amusement, ruffling their hair and the Hobbits halfheartedly shoved her hand away.

That was when Pippin saw an apple floating nearby and he picked it up before seeing another apple float near them. The trio followed the trail of the apples, finding an upside down basket and soon found themselves in a rectangular storeroom. There was a variety of food and beverages in there.

"Well apparently people aren't starving here because of lack of food," Amy said, now having a new source of ire for Saruman.

"Saruman's storeroom!" Merry gasped.

"I don't believe it," Pippin whispered as they noticed a barrel labeled 'South Farthing.'

"It can't be," Merry whispered.

Soon they ripped off the top of a barrel, finding what they suspected.

"It is!" Pippin said excitedly.

"Longbottom Leaf," Merry happily said as he sniffed it. "The finest pipe-weed in South Farthing!"

"You smoke that?" Amy asked and got two nods.

"It's perfect." Pippin said as he handed it to Merry. "One barrel for each of us. Amy, would you like some?"

"No thank you. Rory's lectures about the dangers of smoking put me off ever going near one," Amy said with a grimace.

"You don't know what you're missing," Merry said excitedly.

"Wait! Do you think we should share it with Treebeard?" Pippin suddenly asked.

"Share it?" Merry whispered and shook his finger. "No. No. Dead plant and all that. Don't think he'd understand. Could be a distant relative."

"I highly doubt that," Amy said with amusement but was ignored.

"I get it. Don't be hasty," Pippin said excitedly.

"Exactly." Merry said as he put the pipe in his mouth and trying to sound like Treebeard said in his best Treebeard impression, "Bar-hrum."

Amy laughed as the two Hobbits began smoking, none of them aware of Treebeard listening from outside.

Helm's Deep

Later

The Fellowship, Théoden, Eomer, Haldir and Gamling rode out into the distance. They could see lightning and ominous storm clouds rolling in the distance.

"Well, that's clearly a good sign," Rory said dryly.

"Rory has a point. I'm not superstitious but it feels…" The Doctor trailed off.

"Aye," Boromir nodded his agreement. "The Doctor and Rory are right. I fear what may happen next."

"Sauron's wrath will be terrible, his retribution swift. The Battle for Helm's Deep is over. The Battle for Middle-Earth is about to begin," Gandalf said grimly. "All our hopes now lie with two little Hobbits….. somewhere in the wilderness."

"I fear myself and my Elves must now return to Lothlorien. I must be there to protect my Lord and Lady," Haldir said.

"We understand. We thank you for your assistance," The Doctor said and Haldir nodded.

"Rohan will always be thankful to the Elves who came in our darkest hour," Théoden said.

"And we will always be honored to have fought along Men once more," Haldir said before he rode off.

"Now what?" Rory asked.

"Now, we journey to Isengard. It's time Saruman answers for his crimes," Gandalf said darkly.

"Agreed," The Doctor said.

"He attempted to wipe out my people. I will go as well," Théoden said.

"All of us together must go. Only then can we defeat him," River said simply.

"River is right. And I believe we all have old friends waiting for us," Gandalf said with a glance at The Doctor and Rory.

With that said, the group began making their way towards Isengard, unaware of what they would find there.

And that ends the second movie.

Hope I did the ending of the Battle of Helm's Deep and the Battle of Isengard justice.

And now onto Return of the King.
