Prologue
"Hey!, Faith, I think we found something!" Buck Evergreen echoed from down in the deep cave. Faith Omega raced down the Cavern, and when she got to the rest of the scientists, she was awestruck. There was a massive cavern full of different mammoth-sized crystals. Some red, yellow, gray, blue, and green glow vibrantly in the darkness.
"Alright, guys, let's get to mining," Faith said as the scientists grabbed their gear. The crystals started to glow brighter and brighter. As they began to mine the glowing crystals, they heard the ground shake, and the crystals got so bright they could barely see. They were so blinded by greed that they didn't know what they had just unleashed. The entire world would change because of their actions. The last thing they could see was an explosion; crystals shattered everywhere, and one of the colored crystals lodged into their stomachs. And then pure blackness. They all woke up in hospital beds. All were alive and well, but they had changed.
23 Years Later
"Carter, it's time to wake up, honey. I have to go to work. They said it happened again."
"Fine, Mom. Do I have to go to school, though?" Carter asks,
"Carter Omega! Yes, you have to go to school. Are you crazy?" Faith said, annoyed at such an idiotic question.
"Oh, it's not like I have to switch my personality at school just because I'm the son of the famous 'Faith Omega," Carter mocked. Carter's mother, Faith, is a famous scientist who invented Cryotech Industries™, a multi-billion dollar company.
"At Least be grateful that you have all your nice clothing and electronics," Carter's mom scolded.
"Don't be surprised if I get sent home!" And with that, Carter runs to get to his friend's meet-up spot before school.
"Late again, huh? You need to start hitting the treadmill, man, or are your hands still frozen like always" Duncan said to Carter. Duncan was 6' 2. Very tan and athletic. "Yeah, I know. Just shut it, and let's go."
As Duncan and Carter started to walk down the freshly paved sidewalk, they both heard rustling from the bush. They thought it was nothing and continued talking since they were both being transferred to a new school since their friend accidentally burned the whole place down by messing something up in the science lab. The more they would talk about the new school, the more they would speculate about it. What would the inside look like? Would the kids be lovely? Will there be girls? As soon as they asked that final question, someone jumped out at them from the bushes. Tackling them both,
"I can't believe you would leave without me!"
They both knew that voice all too well. It was Lea, their little friend group's third and final member. Lea was just about 5'3, had short dark red hair that went down to her shoulders, and was an agile girl who always had a smile on her face, almost like a beam of sunshine for everyone. She finally got off them after they told her they couldn't breathe.
"Lea, we were Leaving without you because we thought you had already left and were there," Duncan said.
"You guys think I should Leave to get there early?" Lea says, confused.
"Considering how many times you've left us to be at school, yea, we do," Carter says, dusting off his pants.
"Well, it's the first day of the new school, and I wouldn't leave without you guys, even if you two, unfortunately made it thirty minutes late!"
"Well, we're going to be thirty minutes late if we keep talking. So let's get moving, you two." Duncan yelled as the trio raced off to the new school.
As the trio walked into the building, there were whispers, considering they looked like complete outsiders. Everyone wore full uniforms, whereas Duncan and Carter looked ready to play football. Lea was wearing leggings and a hoodie. The school's counselor gave them their uniforms, and they were off to Homeroom. Lea and Duncan had the same Homeroom, whereas Carter was all alone.
"So Duncan, What are you most excited about for Avalon?" Lea asked.
"The people. Have to become the top guy again, so that'll be a challenge but one I'm willing to take on! Being the son of Buck doesn't help, though. What about you, Lea?" Duncan asked.
"Meeting new friends and new people. I hate being the rich girl's daughter because my dad helped Faith in Cryotech doesn't mean I'm a spoiled brat and a rich kid. I want people to not judge me for that, and starting a new school could help!" Lea said confidently. A few minutes passed, and a girl with brunette hair tied neatly into two braids, "Hi! My name is Amber. Nice to meet you!"
Hi, I'm Duncan. Nice to meet you too." Duncan gets up to shake her hand.
"This is your first day, right? You're in my first-period class. so I'll show you around!" Amber chirps,
"Okay! Sounds great!" Duncan replies,
"C'mon, Duncan, hurry up. We're going to be late!" Amber yelled, miles ahead of Duncan. Even though Duncan was in incredible shape, Amber was still faster, her blond ponytail flowing elegantly. He noticed she had these shoes on. They were different from the school's uniform. Odd. I am still waiting to see those kinds of shoes. But they look amazing on her. So does the school uniform. Wait, what am I thinking? Whatever. I'll ask her about it later.
First period. 8:59 PM
Those shoes were glowing. They have to mean something. Like ranks, or is there something special?
"Hey, Duncan!"
I don't even know much about Amber.
"Duncan!"
I have to figure this out, though. It's going to bug me all day if I don't
"Duncan!" Amber said, practically yelling and trying to jump up to feel his forehead.
"Oh, yea Amber?"
"You weren't responding to me! I thought you weren't feeling well!" Amber said. Playfully smacking his arm.
"Oh no, I'm fine, but thanks for worrying. And hey, your shoes aren't the school uniform shoes. So what's up with that" Duncan replied, oozing curiosity.
Amber stared at him like he was a ghost.
"Duncan, who is your father?" Amber replied. With a distraught and stern tone.
"Buck evergreen, why?" Duncan replied.
"Okay, fine, Duncan. My dad was one of the people who went on the trip with Carter's mom to get the crystals. It turns out those crystals were extremely dangerous. But extremely powerful. Each color represents one power. My dad got the gray crystal, which is the illusion crystal. You have clairvoyance. So you probably got the dark green crystal. That's why you can see through the shoe disguise."
"Pfft, hilarious, Amber," Duncan said.
"Duncan, I'm dead serious. Ask someone what shoes I'm wearing," Amber replied calmly.
Duncan asked the teacher about the shoes, and the teacher was confused, saying that she was wearing the correct shoes and asked if Duncan needed to go to the nurse. He shook his head and started to wonder about Lea and Carter.
"Amber, we have to tell the others. As soon As we can, Carter and Lea's Parents both went on the trip too," Duncan says, worrying about what sort of things they might have. All kinds of thoughts swam through his mind.
