"Thomas! Back off," Theo barked as he got between Thomas and one of the current rangers that he had been wailing on. Thomas had always had great self control, but something had been bothering him the last few days and he hadn't been able to get to the bottom of it. He was distant from everyone and Theo knew he was going to have to force a conversation soon. "What the hell is going on?"
"They need to be better," Thomas growled as he turned away from Theo and Theo grabbed him and jerked him back to face him. "Do it. It wouldn't be the first time."
"I'm not your father. What is going on?" Theo said as he pointed to the door and the current rangers jogged out. "Thomas…"
"I haven't talked to Kimberly in a week, not since…" Thomas trailed off as Theo stared at him. He knew that Thomas was mad about her not telling him as soon as she knew, but he had thought that they had worked through that.
"I don't need to tell you how bad of an idea this is," Theo stated as Thomas let out a groan. He did not want a lecture. "She's your wife. She's your soulmate. She's pregnant with your son. You walking out and not talking to her because of something that she can't help and can't control is bull shit. I know you're scared, but this isn't something you can beat up or train to defeat."
"Why is everyone acting like there is no other option?" Thomas roared as Theo folded his arms and waited. Thomas stalked around the training room, as the pain, hurt, fear, and anger gathered inside of him. He had run away from dealing with this, now Theo was forcing him to deal with it. He let out a scream and Theo hit the ground as every piece of glass shattered in the room. Thomas stilled as he looked around at the utter destruction and Theo carefully sat up and shook the glass off.
"You need to fix this, soon," Theo said as he handed Thomas a broom and then walked out of the ruined training room. He hoped Thomas got the point, but he just wasn't sure that it really sunk in.
"Hi, Robert," Kimberly said as she walked up to him at the Power Ranger hospital and let out a sigh. "I'm having trouble finding the obstetrics wing."
"I can show you. Is Thomas meeting you here?" Robert said as he watched her face fall and he quickly clenched and unclenched his hands, but kept his face neutral. Theo had told him that Thomas hadn't talked to her in a week, but that had been four days ago. Surely Thomas had gotten the message to go and make this right. "Do you want him here?"
"He doesn't want to be here. Jason gave him a message for me and told him about this- he had a chance to show up. He chose not to," Kimberly forced out and Robert shook his head in disgust. He dropped her off in the obstetrics wing and immediately went to his office.
"Dr. Trueheart," a nurse called and he let out a sigh. "We have a patient presenting with…"
"Is this an emergency?" Robert asked and the nurse shook her head no. "Follow me to my office. I need three minutes to make a phone call and then I can look at this."
"Okay," the nurse said as she gave him an odd look, but he continued down the hall.
"Hey, Robert, why am I getting a call?" Amelia asked as she picked up the phone in her office. Normally Theo got these calls. "Did Theo not pick up?"
"He didn't. I need you or him to go drag our nephew out of class and get him down here for Kimberly's appointment. He knows and for some reason he didn't show up. They're going to stall and take their time getting her in- whatever shit he is going through- she doesn't deserve this," Robert growled through the phone and he heard a gasp of shock from Amelia. He slammed the phone down, knowing that she would take care of this.
"Thomas," Amelia said as she found him in between classes. "Do you have somewhere else you should be?"
"No," Thomas said as he looked at her like she had a second head and she glared at him. He felt a jolt of fear at getting that look from Amelia. Theo being mad was normal, but he couldn't remember the last time he had seen Amelia mad.
"Follow me," Amelia seethed and Thomas waved at his friends before jogging off after her. She turned into Theo's office and barreled in, shocking him. "Are you trying to break your connection?"
"You still haven't talked to her?" Theo asked as Amelia gave him a look that clearly said he had not shared this news with her. "Did your little blow up not hint at the fact that you needed to talk to her?"
"She's at the hospital, by herself, because you can't pull yourself together," Amelia shrieked and Thomas' eyes widened and the concern flooded his face. "Go. Fix this."
"What's she there for?" Thomas asked as Amelia threw her hands up in the air and let out a frustrated yell. It then dawned on him. Jason had told him that she had an appointment today, but he had never said what it was for. "Oh shit. That's the appointment she has? Jason just made it sound like she was going to be home late."
"Do not blame this on Jason. She would have told you herself if you would fucking…" Amelia ended the sentence with another incoherent scream as she pointed at the door and Thomas then sprinted from the room. Theo looked up at her in amazement. If Thomas ever pulled something like this again- he would just go to her from now on.
"You are terrifying right now," Theo commented, trying to get her to break out of it and she glared at him. "I thought he would get the point after Monday, that's why I didn't say anything."
Thomas jogged down towards the obstetrics wing. As much as he was struggling, he still wanted to be there for her. He needed to be there for her. He just didn't know how to tell her everything that was going through his mind. He wanted to be there, but he also wanted to protect himself for when he lost her. He now realized that he couldn't do both.
"Tommy?" Kimberly questioned as he walked through the door and he spun around to find her. She immediately looked down at the floor to try to hide the pain she felt. It was obvious to her that Robert had called someone and they forced him to come. She didn't want him to feel forced. She wanted him to want to be there, to be with her. "Why are you here?"
"Jase…I…" Thomas tried as he felt her pain sear through him. Theo had been right, he should have talked to her earlier. Her pain was nearly enough to overwhelm him and he knew that she was still holding a lot of things back from him.
"Mrs. Trueheart?" the nurse called and Kimberly rose to her feet and he froze for a moment. "Oh Thomas- I'm glad you made it. I'm Melanie, I'll be your nurse today. So, Kimberly, with your history- we just want to do some additional checks and monitor you a little more closely to begin with. Are there any symptoms that are bothering you?"
"Morning sickness…is starting to get bad," Kimberly said as Thomas stared at her. How was she even answering her with the amount of pain and sorrow he could feel? "Other than that…I don't know of anything I should be looking for."
"I'll bring that up with your doctor. How about you, Thomas? Have you noticed anything that is concerning?" Melanie asked as Thomas just shook his head. He desperately wanted Kimberly to look at him, but she was keeping her eyes away from him. "I'm going to get your vitals and then the doctor will be in, in a little bit."
Thomas ignored everything Melanie did as he tried to figure out what to say. How did he explain this? It was obvious how hurt she was and he didn't blame her. He absolutely deserved however she wanted to treat him right now, but he knew that this was on him to fix.
"Okay, I've got everything I need. Dr. Murphy will be in, in a bit," Melanie said as Thomas watched her go out and was then left with an uncomfortable silence he had never had with Kimberly before. He took in a deep breath to try to gather his courage to speak.
"Don't. Not now. I…I…I can't do this here," Kimberly whispered as she looked at her hands and he noticed her chipped fingernail polish and tattered cuticles. This time had been much harder on her than he realized, he had been so deep in his own pain that he didn't think of how his actions were affecting her. "Please."
"Okay," Thomas said as he picked a spot on the floor to stare at. Being this close to her was overwhelming him with her hurt and other emotions that he couldn't quite place.
"Hello…how…" Dr. Murphy trailed off as she walked into the room and froze as she looked between the two of them. "Well…I haven't seen soulmates come in like this in a long time. Are you actively fighting it on purpose?"
"Ask him," Kimberly muttered as Dr. Murphy crossed her arms and turned to look at Thomas.
"I'm…I'm not fighting it. I just don't know how I'm supposed to deal with being told that she's going to die at the hands of some being named Kiros and that there is nothing I can do about it," Thomas forced out as he glanced up at Dr. Murphy and then back at a spot on the floor. Dr. Murphy nodded before she walked over and placed a hand on Thomas' shoulder. He looked up at her and was surprised to be met with only compassion.
"Sometimes prophecies are wrong and even though both of you are powerful, that doesn't mean that what she sees is going to happen," Dr. Murphy said as Thomas shook his head. Over the last week he had researched how accurate her prophecies had been so far and it had made him feel sure that she was right. "And here's your ultrasound tech. Thomas- you'll want to be up by mom so that you can see a bit better."
"Ultrasound?" Kimberly questioned and Dr. Murphy paused for a moment. She realized that, most likely, the only experience Kimberly had had with that was to confirm her miscarriage.
"Today, we're just going to be looking for development. And after we're done with that, we'll talk a bit about what can be done for your morning sickness and then Melanie will pop back in and get some bloodwork," Dr. Murphy explained as she watched Kimberly reach for Thomas and he sat down in the chair next to her. Kimberly watched the ultrasound tech and Thomas watched her. He would know what was going on by seeing her reaction. He tuned out everything but her and he felt the regret sink in. Theo was right- he had known since Monday that he needed to talk with her, but this was far past anything he knew how to deal with. How was he just supposed to be okay with her dying?
