PROLOGUE
Mystic Falls
Two weeks before graduation
THE LARGE MANSION that was decorated with extravagant furnishings and rare artwork, bustled with hired staff transforming Klaus's home into a magnificent and formal gathering at his mother's request for that evening. The infamous Mikaelson siblings were in the living room, each engrossed in their own quiet pastime.
Elijah sat in an armchair, reading an old book and sipping his vintage bourbon. Rebekah, the eternal fashionista, swiped through Pinterest on her phone, her attire blending of elegance with a touch of rebellion. And Finn stood by the window, looking out into the distance as though searching for answers.
At that moment, Kol casually walked in, donning his well-known playful smile, cultivated over centuries of both amusement and mayhem. He nonchalantly made his way to the couch and settled down in a manner that could only be described as dismissive.
His gaze falls upon Klaus, who was deeply involved in his sketching, his hands sliding across the canvas with a practiced accuracy. Kol couldn't resist a jab, "Nik, still drawing in those dusty sketchbooks, are we?" with a chuckle in his voice.
Klaus's hand paused but he didn't bother to look up from his beloved sketchbook. "Want another dagger in your heart?" Klaus shot back, irritation lacing his words.
"Again with the dagger threats, brother? Honestly, that's getting very old." Kol replied undeterred by Klaus's retort. He continued to prod. "Ah, Nik you never learned to let things go."
Klaus looked up from his work, his cerulean eyes meeting Kol's gaze annoyance written all over his face. "You dare mock me in my own home, Kol?"
Rebekah suppressed a giggle, familiar with her siblings' antics and Elijah's amused smile was equally visible, betraying his enjoyment of the spectacle.
"Our illustrious hybrid King is brooding as always," Kol continued to taunt.
Elijah set aside his book and glanced between the two. "Niklaus has always found solace in his art. It's a testament to the human aspect that resides within him."
Rebekah, finally looking up from her phone, joined the conversation with a roll of her eyes. "I must say, it's certainly a more welcomed substitution from his typical theatrics."
Klaus gave his sister an amused smirk, appreciating the defense.
Kol's smirk faded slightly, sensing the shift in Klaus' mood. "Oh, come on Nik, it's all in good fun."
"Perhaps, but there's a limit to how much I will tolerate or I'll find it necessary to refresh your memory of what I'm capable of." Klaus warned, his voice carrying a calculated touch of malice.
Kol's bravado falters, realizing he may have pushed too far. He looks at his brother apologetically, "Alright, alright. No need to get all serious. I'll pipe it down."
Klaus nodded, his message clear, but there was a glint of amusement peeking through. "See that you do."
"Fair enough. I'll behave, Nik."
Satisfied with his response Klaus resumes sketching in his book.
As the tension diffused, the room returned to its previous easy-going atmosphere. Finn's voice, civilized yet an undeniable weight of authority, drifted across the room. "Drama still remains a constant companion. I'm glad to see some things never change."
Kol leaned back grinning. "Ah, always the observant one, aren't you, brother?"
The room fell into a momentary silence, the weight of their shared history hanging in the air like a haunting presence. Each sibling carried a burden of their own tale of betrayal, loss and survival woven into the fabric of their immortal existence.
Kol's grin faded, replaced by a more contemplative expression. "Well enough of this sentimental chatter," he declared, clapping his hands together. "Mother's soiree awaits and we must dazzle the town with our illustrious presence."
With a champagne glass raised midair, Rebekah replies. "Of course. Nobody knows how to make an entrance like the Mikaelsons."
Elijah rose from his seat with his ever-present refined behavior and adjusted his cuff links. "Mother is expecting all of us to be on our best behavior. I hope this isn't going to be that difficult for you lot."
Kol groaned, "Oh come on, Elijah. Where's the fun in that?"
Rebekah, never one to miss an opportunity flashed a mischievous smile. "Remember that time in the 1920s when we threw that wild party in Paris?"
As the memories of their wild escapades flooded back their laughter echoed throughout the mansion. Klaus shakes his head but can't help but appreciate the rare moment of levity.
Esther's heart swelled with joy as she approached the living room. The sounds of laughter and chatter fill the air of her children gathered around, reminiscing about past adventures. As she crossed the threshold, they fell silent at her presence, their attention turned to her.
"My dear children," Esther began, her eyes beaming with love, "it warms my heart to see you together like this."
They all exchange glances, still a bit wary of their mother's intentions but offering polite nods.
Esther turns to face Klaus. "Niklaus, might I have a word with you?"
After a brief pause, Klaus nodded, his guard never fully down. Knowing the extent of their complex relationship, the others left the room hesitantly.
Esther moved slowly and deliberately towards him in an effort to show her sincerity. She placed a hand on his arm, her touch gentle. "My darling boy," she implored, "you know I didn't come here to cause strife or hurt anyone."
When Klaus studies her face, searching for any hint of deception, all he found was warmth. "It's difficult to believe Mother, considering our history." Klaus admits.
"I understand your concerns," she said softly, "but I'm here to find a way to mend our broken family."
Klaus hesitated, torn between skepticism and hope. He had carried the guilt of his actions for years, unable to believe that forgiveness was possible. "After everything I did," he whispered. "I can't believe you've forgiven me".
Esther squeezed his shoulder gently, her eyes filled with compassion. "There's nothing to forgive. I am aware that forgiving is not a burden. It's a gift."
Relieved and excited, Klaus gave her a genuine smile. "To new beginnings, then."
You are cordially invited...
The aroma of fresh brewed coffee and sizzling bacon greeted Bonnie as she made her way to the kitchen. "That smells delicious." Bonnie complimented, taking in the delightful scents that filled the air.
Abby standing at the stove, smiled and turned to face her. "Come on, sit down, everything is almost finished," she instructed, gesturing to the inviting breakfast table.
Just as Bonnie was about to take a seat, the doorbell chimed, breaking the tranquil morning atmosphere. Abby glanced at Bonnie with a curious expression. "Expecting anyone?" She asked.
Bonnie shrugged slightly, her brows furrowing. "Not that I remember. Be right back."
She walked off for the front door and opened it. To her surprise there was no one there but a glimmer caught Bonnie's eye. A beautiful envelope lay on the welcome mat, its satiny texture and delicate seal standing out against the dark material. It was addressed to her and Abby in elegant calligraphy, evidence to the care that had gone into its creation.
Curiosity piqued, Bonnie picked up the envelope and examined it closely. "Look at what we got," she called out as she returned to the kitchen, holding the ornate envelope in her hand.
Abby had just finished setting the last items onto the breakfast table, complete with a carafe of freshly squeezed orange juice and a pot of steaming coffee. She turned to face Bonnie, her eyes widening as she saw the envelope.
"It's so fancy," Bonnie amused out loud, her fingers tracing the intricate details of the seal. "I wonder who it's from.
"Well, don't keep me in suspense." Abby urged, a playful smile flashing on her lips.
Bonnie gently broke the seal and pulled out the heavy card stock. As she read the message her eyes widened in surprise and she gasped.
Please join
THE MIKAELSON FAMILY
This evening at seven o'clock
For dancing, cocktails and celebration
"It's an invitation," Bonnie explained with bafflement in her voice.
Abby's impatience and curiosity took precedence and she grabbed the invitation out of her daughter's grasp. After quickly scanning it for any hints, she flipped the invitation over to reveal a handwritten note from none other than Esther Mikaelson.
My sisters - I would like to take this opportunity to thank you both properly for bringing me back. I must admit I do have an alternative motive that I believe is beneficial to both of us. I have found a way to finally undo my worst transgression however I will not be able to accomplish this without your participation. I must insist on your utmost confidentiality as lives are literally at stake. Hope to see you this evening - Esther Mikaelson
"We should go, this could be our opportunity" Abby reasoned.
"You're right, we can at least think about it." Bonnie commented carefully.
Setting the envelope aside, they took their seats buzzing with excitement at the unexpected evening ahead. As they savored their breakfast, both lost in their internal thoughts, their imaginations running wild with different potential outcomes of what Esther could be up to.
With broad smiles on their faces, Abby and Bonnie both turned to face one another. "I guess we need to go shopping," Bonnie squealed. Abby enthusiastically nodded.
After completing her makeup and loose updo, Bonnie went back to her room to change into a stunning blush-colored Versace dress that lay pristinely on her bed. She shimmied her lithe figure in the satin form-fitting strapless dress that showcased her tiny waist. She knelt down and put on her matching Swarovski crystal-encrusted Dior sandals, which gave her outfit a sparkling touch. To finish the ensemble, she grabbed her matching clutch with gold accents as she was leaving.
Abby, a vision unto herself, is waiting in the softly lit entryway. She chose a long, shimmering black silk dress by Vera Wang with one shoulder strap. The dress hugs her elegantly and the matching stilettos heighten her stature. Her beautiful, flowing curls were swept to one side to accentuate her confidence and poise.
As Bonnie approaches, both of them are momentarily struck by each other's beauty and their spontaneous exclamation of "wow" is met with infectious laughter.
Abby is the first to recover. "You look amazing, Bonnie."
Bonnie blushed and returned with equal admiration, "Thank you, so do you."
"Thanks. The car is here. Shall we?" Abby offered Bonnie her elbow.
"Yes, let's go." Bonnie beamed from ear to ear.
Arm in arm they make their way to the waiting car. As the car cruises through the residential streets, they exchange knowing glances of understanding of what tonight's challenge awaits them.
Staff greeted attendees as they approached the party's entrance. The attire of every guest was reminiscent of modern-day royalty.
Standing in chronological order on the grand staircase, the distinguished family emanated a majestic, imposing aura that drew attention. The guests were mesmerized by the distinct allure and attractiveness that each Mikaelson exhibited as they descended the steps.
From the landing on the second level, Esther looked down upon the activity with pleasure and satisfaction. She smiled lovingly as she walked up to the group, showing her children that she was proud of them. "You all look splendid. This event is not only a celebration of our family but also gives us a chance to show our guests who we are as a family."
"Fear not Mother. No one knows how to put on a show like the Mikaelsons." Klaus reassured her.
"Let the games begin." Kol added. They each walk off to mingle with their guests.
Finn's eyes followed the direction of their stares towards the lovely duo that entered the grand entryway. The pair nonchalantly brushed off the admiring glances and a couple of envious looks from a few women standing by. Silently, he exited the room to find Esther, now that the final group of VIP guests had arrived.
"Feeling nervous?" Abby whispered to Bonnie, in an effort to divert her attention as they stood among the crowd of onlookers.
Bonnie let out a long breath. "I just want to get this over with." Her fingers fumbling with the fabric of her gown. "I can't allow myself to be nervous." Bonnie admitted.
Abby nodded in agreement. "Remember, I've got your back."
Bonnie managed a small smile. "I'll be alright. I promise."
A waiter approached them with a tray full of filled champagne glasses. Bonnie reached out to take one of the glasses however, Abby made a disapproving sound and remarked, "Maybe you should hold off until we've had our chat with Esther - stick to sparkling water," she suggested, her gaze fixed on Bonnie. She then turned to face the waiter and politely declined the offer with a polite "no thanks" before turning her focus elsewhere.
He sensed her presence before he saw her. Bonnie stood at the entrance with a woman he recognized as her mother, scanning the sea of faces searching for any familiar ones. His first thought, she was the epitome of perfection and the most captivating woman in the room.
Klaus said as he turned back to face the people whom he engaged in conversation, "Please excuse me." He didn't bother to wait for a response before leaving. He advanced with the tenacity of the natural predator he was, being cautious not to expose his supernatural agility to those around him. His unwavering glance traveled along the contours of her curves before finally settling on her eyes.
A small crowd parted, revealing Klaus gazing at her from across the room. Anxiety began to build in Bonnie's stomach as she realized he'd been focused on her the entire time. Though she found him attractive, she was less excited to see her nemesis. But if she was being honest with herself - when she took a moment to study his appearance she noticed how powerful and irresistible he appeared in his tux, her pulse skipped.
Klaus gave a sly smirk, catching her checking him out and noticed her heart rate changed. His gleaming eyes and that grin made her cheeks flushed.
Caroline suddenly walked up to them blocking their view and leading them away. Frustrated, Klaus went in search of a drink to occupy his time, hoping for another opportunity to be alone with her.
Caroline grinned at her best friend while simultaneously displaying a shocked expression. "Bonnie and Abby, you both look stunning." She greeted.
The ladies exchanged greetings and returned the sentiment.
"I didn't know you would be here tonight."Caroline admitted.
Bonnie's lip curved into a warm smile as she replied. "The feeling is mutual."
Standing a little to the side, Abby watched the two with a contented look on her face. She had grown fond of Caroline during the time they spent together and she was glad to see her daughter surrounded by friends.
"I'm a bit thirsty. What do you say we grab a drink?" Caroline suggested. Bonnie and Abby both nodded in agreement. While walking towards the bar with Abby following closely behind them, Caroline linked her arm with Bonnie's.
The sound of music and laughter filled the air as they reached the bar. Caroline turned to Bonnie after they gave the server their orders. "So, tell me everything. How did you end up here?"
Bonnie chuckled. "Esther personally invited us, she seemed quite eager to extend the invitation."
Caroline's eyebrow arched in curiosity. "That's unexpected."
Bonnie nodded. "Tell me about it. So why are you here?"
"Oh my mom was invited and I'm her plus one." Then Caroline clinked her glass against Bonnie's and Abby's. "Well, I guess we're in for a night of unexpected surprises then."
As they each took a sip, the three women shared a knowing smile.
Damon continued to vent his displeasure while he, Stefan and Elena moved about the large room assessing the situation. "I can't believe you insisted on coming to this ridiculous thing."
"You had the choice to stay home." She retorted. Elena was determined to achieve her main objective of understanding Esther's motivations for wanting her to attend this evening's event while growing irritated by his constant opposition.
"Damon, we've been through this." Stefan interjected.
Damon sighs, "Yeah, yeah I know. But I still don't like it."
Stefan, the ever mediator, said, "Let's just get through the night, alright?"
"Fine but I'm going to find alcohol if you expect me to stomach this waste of time." Damon walks off in search of the nearest bar leaving Stefan and Elena alone.
As they chatted, Abby spotted Finn standing near the fireplace, silently beckoning her to join him. She excused herself, and Caroline, needing a restroom break, left Bonnie alone.
Klaus, keeping his distance, had finally found his opportunity. Despite his keen vision, he hadn't noticed how her emerald-like eyes sparkled up close, or how her golden skin seemed to radiate…..those captivating eyes held him hostage.
With an air of intrigue, he smoothly approached her, his renowned charismatic smile playing on his lips as he indulged in her presence.
"Good evening," he greeted, a hint of curiosity in his tone as he welcomed her to his home. "I was unaware you were on the guest list." He reached out for her hand with confidence, locking eyes with her as he kissed the back of her hand.
The simple gesture sent electricity jolting through, momentarily drawing her towards his lips. She quickly regained her composure and responded, "Your mother invited me." Her voice slightly trembling.
Klaus noticed her momentary distraction and couldn't help but sport a knowing smirk, their shared secret shining in his eyes.
"Did she now?" he mused, intrigued by the twist of fate that had led her here tonight, thanks to his mother's invitation. "You look absolutely exquisite," he whispered, catching Bonnie off guard. She gasped, then blushed, the hue surfacing underneath her smooth brown skin somehow making her even more beautiful.
"Save me a dance?" he challenged, his tone a mix of humor and genuine interest.
Bonnie's response was swift, her eyes narrowing as she held his gaze. "Not on your life." She shot back, a defiant spark in her words, her unyielding resolve a testament to their complicated history.
She knew her role tonight depended on a stellar performance of indifference around Klaus, a man quick to react to the slightest provocation. And she also was aware that she was playing a very dangerous game.
"Aw, come on, love," he coaxed. "Let bygones be bygones." The atmosphere shifted, a moment of ambivalence touching Klaus's features. "Don't we all do things we regret? I know I've done plenty when it came to you."
Bonnie's brow furrowed slightly, uncertainty flickering across her face. His words held a weight she couldn't entirely decipher.
Klaus remained unfazed, smile still intact. He insisted, "It's just a dance." He laughed, exposing his fangs and saying, "I promise to keep my fangs to myself."
"You better, or else," she warned, her husky tone dripping with seductive confidence, leaving Klaus both impressed and turned on.
Then, Bonnie's attention briefly shifted as she saw Finn and Abby heading upstairs. "I'll think about it," she acquiesced, strategically distancing herself from the conversation. "If you'll excuse me, I need to use the powder room."
"Of course," Klaus replied, his demeanor accommodating. "There's a more discreet one upstairs, second door on the left."
"Thank you." Bonnie walked away, leaving Klaus to watch her fading figure with intense desire written all over his face.
"I'm fully aware that Damon hates that I came tonight but if I could just end this. I need to speak to Esther in private but I know he won't let me go easily. I want to know if she's secretly on our side."
Without letting her continue, Stefan nodded his head in understanding. "I get it and I support your decision."
Smiling Elena reaches out and touches his forearm. "By the way, I'm grateful you're here." She decided to take advantage of the situation and ask for his assistance. "I have an idea."
"That might work," Stefan agreed.
"But how do we distract him?" She asked.
"I've got this."
She gave him another grateful smile, her trust in him evident. "Thanks. I should probably head upstairs." Elena gave Stefan's hand a reassuring squeeze before making her way to the ballroom exterior.
Bonnie walks away, trying to remain calm despite the turmoil inside. Her frantic search for privacy leads her to the powder. Once inside, she begins to pace the small area agitatedly.
"I hate the way he looks at me with those deep blue eyes," she vents aloud, her frustration evident. "Hate his smug way of talking with that damn sexy accent, annoys me to no end. And I especially hate the way he smells so irresistible," she confesses.
Taking control of her thoughts, she gives herself a pep talk. "Alright, just shake it off. You really need to get a grip." She turns to look in the mirror and notices her flushed face. Bonnie closes her eyes, takes a deep breath and starts counting down to steady her accelerating heartbeat.
Once she regains control, she studies her reflection again, reapplies her lip gloss and straightens her hair and dress.
The vibration of her phone in her clutch grabs her attention. Retrieving it, she reads a text from Abby, that they are waiting for her. With her resolve settled she made her way discreetly to their meeting spot.
Damon was indeed nursing a drink in the corner, his expression sullen and brooding. Stefan approached his brother, plastering a concerned smile on his face. "Hey, Damon. Elena asked me to relay a message for you."
"Oh, so now she wants to talk to me?" He scoffed.
Stefan put a hand on Damon's shoulder, urging him to step away from the bar. "Come on, she wants to talk to you in private."
Damon raised an eyebrow in suspicion but made no protests, allowing Stefan to lead him to a quieter area of the mansion. Stefan's expression shifted from friendly to determined once they were alone. Before Damon could turn to face his brother, Stefan rushed up from behind and snapped his neck. "Sorry, brother, but this is for Elena," Stefan said. He then sent Elena a text: Hurry - he won't be out for long.
Just as Elena reached the staircase Elijah's steady voice cut through the air like a velvet-covered blade. "Elena," he called. She halted in her tracks, her hand suspended above the railing, her heart skipping a beat. She turned to face him, her expression a perfect facade of innocence.
"Hey Elijah," she acknowledged. "What's up?"
Elijah closed the distance between them with measured steps. His eyes, as perceptive as always, held Elena's gaze in a steady lock. "Forgive me but I'm wondering why my mother has requested a private conversation with you. It seems rather odd, don't you think?"
Elena's poker face wavered for a second before regaining her composure. She knew he was not one to be deceived easily. "I'm sure it's nothing," she said nonchalantly.
Elijah arched an eyebrow, his skepticism thinly veiled. "Hm, yes well she says she's forgiven Klaus and as much as I want to believe that there is a lot of bad blood between us. Would you do me a favor and let me know what transpires?"
She sighed softly. "Of course, Elijah."
His stern expression softened. "Thank you."
With a brief nod, Elena turned and walked upstairs. She braced herself for the conversation that awaited her, a discussion that held the power to reshape alliances and shatter fragile truces.
The room was dimly lit, candles casting amber glows that softened the edges and created dancing shadows on the walls. Bonnie quietly entered, joining the secret meeting.
"First I would like to say thank you for accepting my invitation. I believe we share a common goal," Esther stated, her words hanging in the air like a promise of a scheme.
Curious and perplexed looks were exchanged. "Don't worry, Abby and I have cast a protective spell around this room," Esther reassured them. "No sound shall pass through these walls." Tension built as Esther continued, her gaze on Elena. "We intend to kill Klaus.
Bonnie responded right away, "Go on, we're listening."
Curiosity piqued; Elena felt compelled to ask the question that had been circling the room. "How do you plan to do that? He's immortal."
Esther's gaze shifted to Finn, a silent communication passing between them. She turned back to the group. "Magic, with your help," she affirmed, eyes resting on Abby and Bonnie, then on Elena's." And yours."
"What part do we play in all of this?" Abby questioned.
Esther smiled confidently, revealing her plan. "My children believe this is a reunion celebration. But it's to perform a ritual." She paused for effect. "The first step requires a single drop of a doppelganger's blood. Tonight's champagne toast will contain its essence."
As the gravity of the situation sank in, Bonnie couldn't help but wonder. "And what about our role in this?"
"You are both descendants of Ayana, a great mentor of mine. Drawing power from her bloodline is fitting. Your help is necessary for tonight's spell, but our adventure doesn't end there. Tomorrow's full moon requires the combined strength of all the Bennett witches, living and dead."
The tension in the room was palpable as Finn handed his mother the prepared dagger as he acknowledged the seriousness of their task. Esther glanced at Elena, who gave her permission to continue with a subtle nod.
With steady concentration, Esther carried out the ritual, adding a drop of blood in a chalice to represent Elena's distinct ancestry. "They must all drink the toast in order to be linked as one."
Elena's confusion was reflected by her question "Linked as one? What does that mean?"
Esther gave a stern, steadfast reply. "You said it yourself Klaus can't be killed but tonight's spell links all of my children together so if one dies, they all do."
Abby looked intrigued while both Bonnie and Elena wore expressions of disbelief with a hint of remorse.
"I love my family but they are an abomination. I betrayed nature," looking over to the Bennett witches, "when I created them and it is my duty to rectify it."
Just as Elena, Abby and Bonnie were about to leave the room, Esther called out to Elena, mentioning, "Elijah is somewhat skeptical, he'll require further persuasion." Elena acknowledged her comprehension with a nod.
She then turned to Abby, offering her an option, "You are welcome to stay here while we rejoin the party for the toast if you'd like. You'll be completely safe since the protection spell is still in place."
"Okay, I need to talk to Bonnie for a minute first," Abby replied. Once alone with Bonnie, she confided her concerns about blindly trusting Esther and Finn. "I think I will stay and conceal myself with a cloaking spell," she explained, intending to sneak around and verify if they were telling the truth.
Finn gave his mother a comforting glance just before they headed back to the celebration. "I'll be ready when the time comes," he declared.
"You understand what this means, don't you? "Esther questioned.
Finn simply nodded. "Yes, I understand."
Damon's eyes snap open. He sits up abruptly, his breathing heavy and eyes blazing with rage. "Stefan! What the fuck?" His voice gruff.
Stefan emerges cautiously from his position in the corner of the room, his expression revealing a sense of unease being aware of his brother's erratic and explosive nature. "Welcome back, brother."
Damon glares at him, his fingers curling into fists. Spitting out each word. "Welcome back? Are you fucking serious?"
"Damon, you were letting your emotions cloud your judgment. We had a plan, remember? We needed you to stick to it."
Damon walks up to him, his movements fierce and aggressive. "Fuck you and your plan." Then storms off.
The party is in full swing when Rebekah decides she needs a much-needed break after being the focus of attention for quite some time. "Matt? I feel a bit stuffy in here. Why don't we go outside and get some fresh air?"
Matt nods. "Sounds like a plan." They make their way out to the sprawling gardens. The cool night air surrounds them as they enjoy the quiet seclusion. Matt proves to be a gentleman as he places his coat onto her shoulders to ward off the chilly breeze.
"Oh it's okay. I'm a vampire…we don't get - ."She immediately stopped talking when the softness in his eyes gave her pause.
Bloody hell! She warmth in his gaze made her reconsider carrying out the plan she and Kol had discussed. "Let's go back inside. I received all the fresh air I needed."
Matt became perplexed by her abrupt demeanor. He was enjoying their alone time, but he made the decision not to press. He smiled, placed his hand at her lower back and led the way back to the mansion.
With a scowl on his face, Kol stood in the shadows and watched as they approached the manor.
Elena gracefully descended the staircase, ensuring her pace was unhurried. She was immediately on alert due to her involvement in Esther's scheme. The butterflies fluttering in her stomach made her slightly rattled. She met Stefan's eyes just then, and his comforting smile gave her the confidence she desperately needed to lie to someone she considered a friend in such a short period of time.
Elijah eventually reached Elena's side and asked, "So how was my mother?"
Elena, trying to regulate her heartbeat and grateful that he couldn't read her mind, answered honestly, "Intense." Just keep it together, this nightmare will finally be over.
Unfazed by her brief response Elijah persisted in his quest for more details. "And what reason did she need to speak to you in private? Is there a cause for concern regarding my mother's motives?"
Elena shook her head, "No, she just wanted to apologize for trying to have me killed."
Seemingly surprised but satisfied, Elijah voiced his thoughts aloud. "So, it's true then? She's forgiven Niklaus?"
"It's true." Elena confirmed.
Elijah reasoned that their mother might be sincerely trying to mend their family's scars. It may not entirely take away the hurt from the past but it does signify a new beginning. "Thank you, Elena."
Everyone in the room is drawn to the sound of a glass tinkling. "Good evening, ladies and gentlemen. Waiters carrying champagne are arriving. I invite you all to join me in raising a glass. There's no greater joy than to see my family back together as one. I'd like to thank you all for being a part of this spectacular evening. Cheers!"
The guests all chanted "Cheers!" as she raised her glass.
Kol raised his glass first, then Rebekah, Finn, Klaus, and lastly Elijah all indulged in a sip. Bonnie and Elena exchanged a furtive glance, well aware that the consequences of their actions were now irrevocable.
Kol approached Rebekah with a sly grin. "So, Rebekah what happened with your boy toy ... Matt, was it?"
Rebekah hesitated before responding. "About that I uh, I changed my mind. I don't want to ruin mother's night."
Kol raised an eyebrow, teasingly asking, "Don't tell me you like this boy?"
"Just leave him be okay." Rebekah insisted.
"As you wish, sister." Kol acquiesced just before she stormed off. However, Kol had no intention of keeping his promise, shifting his gaze to locate Matt.
Throughout the night, Elena and Bonnie played their parts flawlessly, ensuring that no one discovered their deceit.
As soon as the dancing started, Bonnie did her best to disappear into the background and stay undetected. She found a quiet corner but lost sight of him in the process. She believed she had gotten away from his repeated attempts.
"Did you save the last dance for me?" His voice, smooth as silk and laced with sin, murmured into her ear. Startled, she turned around, eyes widening at the unexpected sight of him, close enough for her to feel the warmth of his breath against her skin.
"I -," she stammered, her thoughts momentarily scattered.
Breathless, her chest rose and fell rapidly and his eyes suddenly darted to her breasts. "It would be my pleasure to have this dance with you," his voice a bit husky. Bonnie smiled and nodded.
She heard a gasp echo and noticed the curious looks being directed their way as they moved toward the dance floor. The string quartet transitioned into a new song, guiding their steps. Her body slid effortlessly against his as he twirled her into his arms.
Her body was a perfect fit against his torso; his arm securely around her waist while his other hand held her much smaller one.
"Everyone is staring," she whispered, a blush painting her cheeks with embarrassment, avoiding her friends' curious gazes.
Lost in the rhythm of the dance, Klaus pulled her closer. Anxiously, she asked, "What are you doing?" she wondered.
"I don't know," he confessed in a low, conspiratorial tone, "but I'm having a good time."
Their words faded as they danced, the music that surrounded them. He led her with ease, demonstrating his skill as a good dancer. Bonnie felt swept away as her dress fluttered around her like it was caught in a gust of wind.
Caroline, Elena, Damon and Stefan watched from the sidelines in a state of surprise and concern. Damon couldn't resist making snarky remarks, earning angry glares from her friends.
As she entered the ballroom, Rebekah was stopped short at the sight of the unlikely pair. They definitely had chemistry. A grin spread across her face, as she watched her brother being enamored by someone as formidable as him.
As one song flowed into the next, a smirk pulled at his lips when he noticed an uptick in her pulse and the floral aroma of her arousal. Good, he thought, she's just as affected.
A sudden movement from the corner of her eye shattered the enchantment causing her to tense and stumble slightly.
She wasn't aware that he was leaning closer to her when he asked, "What's going on in that beautiful head of yours?" When she didn't answer, Klaus continued his advances. "You smell so delicious," he growled.
The double entendre, not escaping her notice - It sounded exactly like the big, bad wolf that he is. Clearing her throat and averting her gaze, she thought, is he…. flirting?
She managed to break free of his grasp somehow and she quickly excused herself before succumbing to misguided feelings of his charms.
For the second time Klaus watched her walk away but this time he sensed that this was only the beginning of something.
Kol was hiding in the shadows of the balcony, anticipation he hadn't felt in quite a while. He had been stealthily watching Matt's every move. Kol's lips twisted into a cunning smile as Matt's footsteps got closer. "Time for some fun," he muttered.
As Matt's footfalls echoed the hallway and Kol slid deeper into the darkness. He'd planned this moment meticulously, ensuring Rebekah was occupied elsewhere. Curiosity led Matt outside to investigate a strange noise. Just as he crossed the threshold, Kol pounced, making Matt jump.
"Good evening, a friend of Rebekah's, I presume?" Kol greeted, extending his hand. "We haven't met. I'm Kol."
The balcony seemed to shrink as tension thickened the air. Matt hesitantly shook Kol's hand, feeling a crushing grip that sent searing pain through his fingers.
Meanwhile, Damon had been sulking nearby, stirred at the sound of a muffled struggle. His instincts reacted, warning him that danger was present, with swift movements he closed the distance between them in seconds. His eyes narrowed as he took in the scenario playing out in front of him. "Easy there," he remarked, his tone oozing snark. "Watch the hand…he's the quarterback."
Damon's expression changed as a result of his acute perception as the atmosphere shifted. His eyes turned crimson and dark veins snaked down his face. He lunged at Kol with speed and precision, emitting a primal snarl. The clash was explosive, the rattling archway as their bodies collided. Though Kol was incredibly stronger, Damon's unpredictable personality created a maelstrom of aggression as they wrestled and twisted.
The tension peaked and they tumbled over the railing, crashing to the ground below in a shower of debris. Luckily for Damon, he landed on top of a disoriented Kol, seizing the opportunity grabbing him by the neck and twisting it violently till it snapped.
Suddenly, a commotion near the entrance of the mansion catches Esther, Elijah, Stefan, and Elena's attention. They emerge just in time to witness the fight. Stefan hurried to his brother's side. "Have you completely lost your mind?"
"No, but does it really matter since I'm weak and emotional?'" Damon jerked his head in Elena's direction and gave her a harsh look before sprinting away.
Elijah found a moment to slip away from the lively crowd and led his mother to a quiet spot away from prying eyes. He anticipated Esther's disapproval regarding the recent altercation between Kol and Damon.
"I explicitly requested no violence tonight and Kol has brought disgrace upon our family in front of the entire town," she voiced her frustration.
Elijah assured her, "It won't happen again, Mother."
Esther responded with a reassuring smile, revealing her maternal instincts. "Thank you Elijah. I wish the others were more like you." Elijah expresses gratitude with a smile as she rests her palm on his cheek. He then excused himself when Finn approached.
Finn and Esther returned to the dimly lit room. As Finn closed the door behind them, he asked, "Are we alright to speak freely?"
Esther nodded. "Yes, the sage is still burning. Son, what's on your mind?"
However, the door flew open once more, a surge of energy flooding into the room, interrupting their conversation. Bonnie rushed in, her chest heaving as though she'd been running for a while. Her eyes were wide, scanning the room frantically. "Where's Abby?"
Suddenly Abby materializes out of thin air, crossing the room as her appearance transforms from invisible to tangibility. In stark contrast to the anxiety that had brought them all together, her voice was cool and collected. "I'm right over here."
As their eyes met, Bonnie's shoulders sagged in relief, and her expression softened. "Okay," she breathed.
"Alright, shall we begin?" Esther's voice broke through the silence, her tone centering them.
The atmosphere of the room was charged as the four individuals huddled around a wooden table with ancient spell books and artifacts. They started working in tandem, preparing the spell meticulously.
Esther took hold of Finn's hand, using the same dagger to make a small cut on his palm, allowing his blood to fall onto the sheet of ancient parchment containing the names of the five Mikaelson children. "Let's join hands," she instructed.
As the three witches began to chant the incantation, with each word, energy surged through them. Finn's blood moved from one name to the next, creating a spectral flow that resembled the growth of a mystical tree. The spell wove their essences together, binding them in an unbreakable connection.
The ancient parchment caught fire and burned then crumbled into ashes that floated away on an unknown breeze as the last word of the spell rang in the air.
"It is complete," Esther declared. She turned to face Finn, a look of sadness in her eyes. "You are now as one."
Esther turned to the Bennett women and thanked them once more. "May I have Finn escort you ladies home safely?" she offered a gesture of respect and concern.
Abby shook her head appreciatively. "No, it won't be necessary. I've already ordered an Uber but thank you for the offer."
A question lingered in Bonnie's mind as she and Abby began to make their way to the door. She turned around and looked straight at Esther. "You said that if one falls, they all will. How exactly do you plan to make that happen?"
The room fell into a contemplative silence. With a firm voice, Finn stepped forward. "I will be the sacrifice."
He gave Esther a quiet nod of assurance as they exchanged looks. There was a hint of worry in his tone. "You're not having second thoughts, are you?"
Esther's eyes were heavy with sadness. "Of course not," she finally replied. "It's just Elijah…he is so moral," she confessed.
Finn's tone changed. "You're doing the right thing, Mother."
With a measured inflection, Abby intervened. "It must be done. No offense, Finn you seem like a pretty decent guy unlike Klaus..but -"
She was stopped by Finn's raised hand. "No offense taken. I completely understand."
His gaze filled with conviction as he turned to face his mother. "When it is time I will be ready to die."
Esther's eyes glistened, pride mingling with sadness. She turned to Bonnie and Abby trying to keep up pretenses. "We'll see you both tomorrow evening. Good night."
Finn discreetly escorted the women to the rear entrance and saw to it that they got into their waiting car.
As the door closed behind them, Esther was left alone with her thoughts. A bittersweet smile curved her lips as she envisioned the potential within the youngest Bennett witch.
Esther's voice was full of nostalgia and pride as she addressed the air. "Ayana, you'd be proud."
The Mystic Grill is pretty lively despite many residents being at Klaus's mansion. Matt sat alone in a corner with a cast on his wrist, nursing a drink. Rebekah felt apprehensive as she scanned the room for him. After a moment's hesitation, she approached him, taking a deep breath.
"Hi. What are you doing?" she asked softly.
Matt, still angry from the earlier disaster, wasn't in the mood for pleasantries. "Well, let's see. I went to a party, got my hand crushed and found out that I don't have health insurance. So I just needed a minute to myself."
"I thought maybe I could buy you an apology drink. Don't worry about the medical bill, consider it sorted. It's the least I can do." Rebekah offered, trying to convince him to let her join him.
Matt remained unconvinced, all he really wanted was to stew in solitude. "Maybe you could just leave me alone."
"Look, I'm….really sorry about Kol. He's a lunatic." She pleaded.
"Rebekah, you're really fun and pretty and all but I really need you to leave me alone," he demanded.
Never one to back down, she skillfully persuaded him to allow her to join him without resorting to compulsion. They lost track of time as they talked effortlessly and got lost in each other's company.
Surprisingly, they were open and honest with one another, sharing everything and learning about each other's backgrounds. Her brief life as a human was recounted, along with the story of how her father turned into a monster who tortured her and her siblings. While Matt reflected about his life with Vicki and the time before the Salvatores' return to Mystic Falls.
But the best moment was when they slipped away to his place. While frantically kissing, they yanked each other's clothes off leaving a trail to his bedroom.
Standing in his naked glory, his erection was on the verge of exploding when his eyes swept over her magnificent figure, so he took a deep breath to avoid embarrassing himself.
Rebekah licked her lips when her eyes landed on his sizeable cock. She watched him, memorizing how he looked at this very moment….feeling euphoric with anticipation of having him inside of her.
"I want to taste you." Matt said, wasting no time.
"Oh Matt, you're going to make me come," she exclaimed.
His lips glistened with her wetness as he slightly raised his head with a sexy grin. "Trust me," he assured, "you'll come more than once before we're done." He made good on his promise.
As they lay satiated with Matt resting his cheek against her forehead, their bodies continued to be in constant contact. Despite not knowing what to anticipate, Rebekah was pleasantly impressed by his stamina. She wondered where he got the strength from because he was so fierce with his lovemaking, kisses and overall demeanor. After the fourth time, she had lost count of how many times she had climaxed. He even let her drink her fill of him and when she was satisfied she healed his puncture wounds.
Matt grinned, a silent confirmation of the surprising turn of events. He'd never dared to entertain the idea of forming an attachment with another woman since Elena. But, Rebekah ignited a flame that was too strong to ignore. "I had a feeling you were extraordinary," he murmured as he drew closer to her. He gently nudged her chin up and captured her lips in a passionate kiss.
She welcomed him eagerly, running her fingers through his hair in a firm but gentle manner. Every pull of his strands appeared to be bearing the memories of their special evening together. That's when she realized in their tangled embrace, with certainty that was beyond logic, if she could, she'd remain like this, in this moment, with him, forever.
A while later, following yet another intense round of sex, Rebekah opened her eyes with her blonde hair all over the pillow, giving her an angelic appearance. Matt just stared at the beauty before him. Her light blue eyes shone as she looked back at him with wisdom that he assumed most people missed. Beneath her complex resilience, her sweet and insecure demeanor, he recognized a pain similar to his own.
"I need to go home," she admitted reluctantly after they made love for the last time. She kissed him, made a silent promise, and then gathered up her belongings, preparing to leave.
Matt could still feel the afterglow of their intense connection as he watched her go. He was looking forward to learning all the secrets that were there.
Bonnie was overcome by confusion as she sat alone in her room. Her unexpected attraction to Klaus had her searching for a rational explanation, a way to make sense of her physical weakness for the blue-eye monster. Klaus Mikaelson, synonymous with danger, had threat and chaos etched into his very being. Despite knowing him as an enemy, she couldn't escape the vivid memories of his plump, kissable lips on her skin, the way he oozed forbidden sin, how his hungry eyes trailed her every move, and the sensation of being held in his strong arms as they danced.
Her conscience was gnawed by guilt; she was ashamed of her feelings and thoughts, given what he stood for. But being in his presence that night had awakened something in her that she was unable to easily ignore. Tomorrow night, she would join forces with his mother to participate in his demise, bound by duty.
Her stomach churned with conflict, tearing her apart. Sleep eluded her as she lay in her bed. Bonnie tossed and turned, unsure of how to reconcile her responsibility with the overwhelming emotions Klaus had ignited within her.
Klaus, lost in thought gazed out the window with a contented grin. He thought back on how her body had fit against his so perfectly, the silkiness of her skin, and the intoxicating scent that still lingered in his memory. His arousal stirred, and he tugged at his boxers, desperate for relief.
His interaction with the stunning Bonnie Bennett tonight had sparked a genuine interest in getting to know her better, something he hadn't felt compelled to do in ages. He struggled to recall the last time he had been so captivated by a woman—perhaps a century, or even more.
One thing was for sure he felt drawn toward her in a way he could not quite explain.
Klaus hopped in the shower in an attempt to wash away his cobwebs and frustrations after a restless night that left him with no satisfaction in sight. He lost in the contemplation of a specific witch as he liberally poured his body wash into his hands, they subconsciously trailed to his lower region, and when he felt the familiar tug and swelling he started to stroke his cock.
After he brought himself to completion, he washed his entire body and got out the shower. Using one towel to dry his hair, he threw it across the room and picked up another to wrap around his waist.
Rebekah was casually lounging on his bed when he entered from his ensuite. "I would have sworn this was my room."
With a knowing smirk on her face, "I saw you with Bonnie Bennett last night." She said with an accusing tone.
There was no point in denying that last night's dance wasn't just an ordinary dance, he thought to himself. "Yes, well she's a beautiful woman and I find her quite fascinating."
"I think you are a little more than attracted to her, Nik." Rebekah grinned, sensing that he had fallen for the Bennett witch based on the obvious hint of a look in his eye.
"Do you mind, I'd like to get dress."
"Fine," she sighed. She leaped to her feet with such speed, as soon as she pulled the door open, she turned around with a geniune look. "You could do a lot worse." With a wink, she shut the door behind her.
Klaus grinned and stroked his chin with his index finger, wondering how he would be able to convince the enchanting beauty to allow him to show her another side to him.
