Chapter 13:

Major Carter entered the infirmary with a bright smile on her face, carrying a stack of reading materials and a handheld game console. She approached Jonas's bedside with a playful twinkle in her eyes, eager to see the surprise and delight on his face.

"Hey, Jonas," she greeted him cheerfully. "I brought you some reading materials and a handheld game console to keep you entertained."

Jonas's eyes lit up with excitement at the sight of the offerings. "Wow, thanks, Major!" he exclaimed, his voice filled with genuine appreciation. "You really didn't have to do that."

Major Carter waved off his thanks with a dismissive gesture. "Nonsense," she replied with a grin. "Consider it a little something to help pass the time while you're stuck in here."

With a flourish, she placed the reading materials and game console on the bedside table within Jonas's reach, eager to see which one he would choose first.

Jonas wasted no time in selecting a book from the stack, his eyes lighting up with anticipation as he flipped through the pages. "This looks interesting," he remarked, a smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "Thanks, Major."

Major Carter returned his smile with one of her own, her heart warmed by the sight of Jonas's enthusiasm. "You're welcome, Jonas," she replied. "And if you need any help figuring out that game console, just let me know."

With that, she bid him farewell and left him to enjoy his new diversions, knowing that she had brought a little bit of joy and excitement into his day. As she made her way out of the infirmary, she couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction knowing that she had been able to spoil Jonas a little, just like a big sister would. As she went about her duties, she looked forward to the next opportunity to bring a smile to his face and brighten his day.

As night fell over the infirmary, Jonas found himself drifting off to sleep. As Jonas slept peacefully, Dr. Fraiser entered the room to check on him one final time before retiring for the night. She noticed the book still clutched in Jonas's hand, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips as she approached his bedside.

With gentle hands, Dr. Fraiser carefully removed the book from Jonas's grasp and placed it back on the bedside table, ensuring that it was within easy reach should he wish to continue reading upon waking. She then reached for Osiris the plushie, tucking it snugly under Jonas's arm, a comforting presence to keep him company through the night.

Satisfied that Jonas was comfortable and well cared for, Dr. Fraiser adjusted the blankets around him, ensuring that he was warm and cozy as he slept. With a final glance at her young patient, she smiled softly, her heart filled with affection for the brave young man who had faced so much with courage and resilience.

"Sleep well, Jonas," she whispered, her voice barely above a murmur. "You're in good hands."

With that, Dr. Fraiser bid Jonas goodnight and quietly left the room, leaving him to rest peacefully in the gentle embrace of sleep. And as she made her way down the corridor, she carried with her the knowledge that Jonas was safe and cared for, surrounded by the warmth and love of those who cherished him most.
