Apologizes for the wait. I had a mental wall recently and I haven't been feeling great either. My health has never felt the same since Covid. I have been posting one shots in other fandoms but fortunately my Supernatural muse has returned thanks to reading some SPN fics.

Due to the long wait I'll post the first part I done which I started yesterday. I will get down to writing the rest soon. Dean is coming I can assure you. A few other characters are going to make an appearance too. My head is still banging regarding the final fight against Chuck but it will come to me hopefully and fingers crossed it doesn't come out in a mess. Lol.

Patrick expected James to laugh, he expected the former cop to dismiss his story as nonsense, call him crazy and send him on his merry way.

James didn't do any of those things.

Instead the former cop raises an eyebrow and said.

"The Winchesters let you live?"

Patrick puts his drink down and looks at the other witch with confusion.

"I just told you about God and you are more worried about the Winchesters?"

"I'm just surprised that's all." James smiles. "Can't believe you met them and got out in one piece."

"You met them then?"

"As a matter of fact I have. They are the reason I got into witchcraft."

That got Patrick's attention.

"Really?"

"Yeah! Met them on a case, found out they are hunters and the case was...far from normal." He swallows. "After that I wanted to be prepared you know?"

"So you became the very thing they hunt?"

"I did what I can to save people." James nods. "It made me a better cop...well it did."

"Then you fell in with the wrong crowd."

"I don't regret it." James said his eyes trailing over to Portia.

"So." Patrick clears his throat. "So did the Winchesters know you are..."

"Yeah."

"They knew?"

"We crossed paths years later around the time when everything came out, my downfall. The Winchesters were there they helped me...again. We stopped the son of a bitch but it wasn't enough my reputation was in ruins then. Hey what can you do?"

"They knew and they let you live?"

James is smiling now.

"You still haven't answered my question. How did you convince the hunters to let you live? Your occupation could be seen as controversial?"

"I don't kill Jamie."

"But your job..."

"I do not force their hand."

"Hunters may not see it that way."

"Well what can I say? I'm a likable guy."

"That's debatable."

"Yet here I am...Just..." He laughs as he pushes his silver hair out of his face.

James shakes his head. His face suddenly turning grim.

"Poor Dean, he has so much burden on his shoulders."

"Technically it's on his arm."

James gives him a bitch face.

"All those years." James continues. "How has he not gone insane?"

"Hell...Literally Hell." Patrick quickly clarified. "Spent years down there."

"Gosh."

"And been dead several times...Was a demon at one point." Both of James's eyebrows shoot up. Patrick shrugs. "Life is never dull with the Winchesters."

"Being at War with God? I should think not." He sighs. "God..." His eyes widen. "Fucking God."

"Denial wearing off? You look like you need another drink?"

Portia pours another glass before her partner asks. James gives her a grateful smile and takes a dramatic gulp.

"Did you want a more challenging opponent Pat? I mean seriously God?"

"Sure I wanted to up my game." Patrick said with disgust.

"You come here expecting me...ME...To help you?"

"Prepare me for the ring Jamie boy."

"What do you want me to do arrest him?"

"Might not be a terrible idea. His sister is already banged up."

"Sister...Right you said God had a..." James sits back in his seat. "Jesus."

"I'm pretty sure he doesn't exist then I have been questioning myself a lot these days. Being in the presence of the Angelic does that to you." He sighs. "James look Death gave us some pointers on how to handle the bastard. Got to get him to underestimate us."

"To do that you are going to go in there and fight Him yourself?"

"It's all about the cards. I win, we all get our lives back."

"And the Mark?"

"We'll figure that out in the long run maybe I could throw it into the deal."

"Pat? Do you realize how crazy you sound?"

"Not the first time I've been told that."

"But in the the state you are in?"

"That's why I'm here? Some witch on witch therapy, advice, gear me up for the fight, make me the witch I once was.."

"Patrick I can't help you...I'm sorry."

"Okay if not for me then what about Dean? And Sam? James those boys need a break. You haven't seen what I've seen."

"Like I said, what can I do?" James raises his hand. "Patrick, this is suicide."

"Can't be if Death hints there's a chance."

"Did Death say you will win?"

"No but..."

James raises an eyebrow but Patrick waves him off.

"I could give Him what he wants but is it ever going to stop? What story will He end up crafting next? This isn't just about the Winchesters anymore its much more than that. The Apocalypse, fear, death everyone on this planet are plot devices and casualties. It's funny that you get involve with witchcraft and suddenly years down the line the Winchesters are back in your life."

"I called them." Portia argued.

"Of all people." Patrick narrows his eyes. "I been brought back for God's entertainment. Once we cross the Winchesters we are part of His story, freedom gone. It's never going to come back unless He keeps his hands off our world for good."

"Plot devices." James frowns. "You could argue God played a part in letting you live and me going into witchcraft because we would be needed in the future. I guess that would answer my question on how you survived your encounter with hunters."

Patrick grimaced at the thought.

He has a fair point.

"Could this...conversation we are having be part of His story now?" James asked with skepticism. "Hmm?"

The Irish Witch shakes his head.

"No." He said with certainly.

"How do you know?"

"Because for the first time in a while my head has finally felt clear." Patrick admits. "I agree God does play a part in moving the plot forward, nudges us in a certain direction and influences some of our decisions but...feelings, relationships, friends...I believe that's us. It's our doing if that makes sense? I could then say my relationship with Lia was a lie but...no it felt real...It was real our love it was...nobody can mess with that. The friendship I formed with the Winchesters well Dean specifically sure Chuck carved the path but the drinks, the parties, game night, movie night...That all felt real. It was good times..." He smiles. "Dean does carry a heavy burden but in my power I ensured his journey was comfortable well as comfortable as it could be. Me and the angel we did our best and I firmly believe that was all me I don't know why I just know..."

"They can screw us around as much as they like but they can't change who we are deep down." James said with understanding. "It's in our core, our self. Victims I've worked with in the past they gone through a great deal of trauma but while there may be physical and psychological changes deep inside they are there, glimpses of them start to rise to the surface. The perpetrator could never take that away. Yes they leave a scar but the fighting spirit most times it does bounce back. You can't mess with love. Parents, friends, siblings, couples the love it's rooted deep inside them. You say God plays a part in the brothers relationship but how big is His part? Maybe their relationship is their own power. Dean giving Sam what he wants that's not God that's Dean all Dean. He respects Sam's decision to let go that's a big deal and just shows the strength of their relationship. It is a feeling Dean had...a real feeling. A choice he made...HE MADE. " James leans forward. "So yes Patrick it makes sense." He smiles. "It's nice to see you happy again last time I saw you smile was Lia. Chuck has set the setting but you and Dean have carried the scene, off script and improvised."

Patrick takes a deep breath and sighs heavily. James folds his arms.

"Do you know what this means?" He asks.

"What?" Patrick frowns.

"That means free will is there but you are not looking hard enough. Once Chuck is gone that being of who we are will fully rise to the surface we will have complete control.

"So it's possible?"

"I can't guarantee victory because this is God we are talking about here but..." James sighs. "I do owe the Winchesters. I'll try but I can't promise anything."

Patrick's shoulders drop. The tension melts away.

"So you are going to help sort whatever the Hell is going on with me?"

"To prepare you? No Patrick your plan still sounds insane but I am going to do some research, build a profile. You said there are books?"

"Aye."

"I'll take a look at them too."

"I'll send them over."

"In regards to emotional support, what I can offer is limited."

"Come on."

"I'm a cop not a therapist."

"You dealt with..."

"I have but if...IF you are going to take on God you need to be in the right frame of mind Chuck already has His hooks on you, you could fall under His spell again. It happens victims going back to their abuser. It's a never ending cycle."

"Why would I go back to Him?"

"Like you said...you part of His story also He is God part of you is going to think He has the answers. It's only natural. This is not only relating to you this regards everyone else as well. The angel, the demon, Rowena..." James huffs a laugh. "Can't believe I'm even saying this...You all sound like such a odd group."

"They are good guys." Patrick said quietly as he runs his fingers through his hair.

"This is whole keeping Dean out no Patrick I have to disagree we need him."

"He could be Chuck's spy!"

"Same could be said about you." James glares at him. "And the others. You are too emotionally involved Patrick you got to remember you are not the outsider anymore you are part of the main cast your views are biased and your judgement is clouded. Right now leave the decision making to me."

Patrick curses in Irish. His face is shocked and confused.

"You wanted my help." James smirks. "You got it."

Patrick glares at him.

"You were never fun."

"Let me contact my sources, leave it to me and I'll see what I can do. Okay?"

Patrick sighs few moments and nods.

"I hate you." He then said with a huff.

"Portia darling set up the spare room and make our guest comfortable."

Patrick's eyes widen.

"I didn't agree to staying."

"We can't have God's witch out there roaming the streets. You said what we talk about it stays in here."

"I'm not God's witch."

"Portia." James smiles at her while having his back to the other witch.

"I'll get the list. This be our main base?" She asks.

"Yes." James said his face brightening up now he is in his element again. "It will. Now excuse me I'll be on the witch hot line if you need me."

"What happened to keeping a low profile?" Patrick quickly asks. "You are in hiding."

"I can cover my tracks Pat."

"Yet I found you so you need to improve on that."

"And I shall." James is grinning now. "I have it all under control. Don't worry."

Before Patrick could respond James walks up the stairs leaving him downstairs with the familiar.

Portia looks at Patrick.

"It's nice seeing him doing what he loves again." She said.

Patrick looks up the stairs.

"It is." He agrees with her.
